Being in a dive bar I was sure I'd have to limit my drinking to beer, but no. The bartenderess let me know she makes a mean whiskey sour, which she did. It was surprisingly very good. Food is bar food burgers, but pleasingly good, served only in the evenings. The good thing about Last Chance is plenty of entertainment. I got there at 11am and patrons were there, already wound up and a few drunk. Oh, it also has a pool table and shuffleboard. For a dive bar rating it's good. 4 Yelp Stars.

We started with their fried asparagus appetizer. The stalks were quite thin, and the portion small, but what we had was delicious. Especially tasty when dipped in the horseradish sauce. I'd get this again! After that we shared their fish dish. Two scoops on a plate with chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, and chopped green pepper. The cutest heart shaped crackers came with the dip. We had leftover dip so we took it home with us (in our cooler). We enjoyed it on toast later on. So the very good? The food. The not so good? The kitchen looked grungy and the ladies room was a mess. Would we come here again? Yes, but we'd sit outside.

My wife ordered the Philly cheesesteak, and it was topped with what tasted like individually wrapped processed cheese, which really took away from the sandwich. Our soft drinks were flat and served in very small plastic cups. For about $70 for two entrées and an appetizer, we expected much better quality. The outdoor seating was covered with picnic tables, which was a nice break from the Florida sun and probably the most comfortable part of the meal. The atmosphere, however, wasn't what we expected. The staff spent much of the time sitting at a nearby table using profanity, and we never felt particularly welcome. As visitors, we got the impression that locals were the priority and tourists were just passing through. The one bright spot was the property itself. Seeing the Key deer and colorful chameleons wandering around made for some great photos and was honestly the highlight of our visit. Maybe this is a better stop if you're looking for a place to grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere, but based on our experience, we wouldn't come back for the food.

If that's the experience you're going for, however, this may not be the place for that. The bartender was a little stand offish. She asked what we wanted and ordering felt rushed. After my first beer I asked what another popular beer was so I could try it and she said "that IS the popular beer..." So I just stuck to drinking it the rest of the night. My husband ordered a beer called "I'm a fiend" and she corrected him saying "uhm it's friend" ... uhm, no it's not, we can read. She was just a little dismissive and messed with our vibe. Luckily, because there was a DJ inside blasting music so loud we couldn't hear a thing, we decided to sit outside and it changed our mood. The Mexican food truck outside had delicious food. We actually ordered twice! And my husband smoked a cigar in peace. A girl came around giving samples of a beer and we ended up having a nice night despite the bartenders personality.
