The Islander at The Ocean Reef Club!

Wow the Islander at Ocean Reef Club is fantastic for lunch and dinner!! The service is spot on and very efficient. This is a casual restaurant with a hipster flare, men must have a collared shirt and no flip flops. The food here is amazing from the calamari to the coconut macadamia nut encrusted Halibut to the sublime chocolate brownie dessert all the food here is amazing!! Easy 5 Stars !!

I will start this review by stating you cannot go to this restaurant unless you are a member or with a member of the Ocean Reef Club. Just an FYI. This was our third trip to ORC in the last few years and we had not tried the Islander restaurant for dinner in any of the previous stays. We booked our reservations several weeks ahead and were excited to try this spot. They offer a large seafood menu with multiple local catch of the day and also a very nice sushi menu. Their bar menu selections are very nice as well. Their bread and butter starter is amazing! Seriously delicious warm soft bread with a crunchy crust. Paired with a few adult beverages and we were happy diners. We started with their take on a Greek salad which was nice but there was no lettuce. It was good but very different. Hubby opted to go for a sushi roll special that had tuna and shrimp in it. It was ten pieces in total and he really enjoyed it. I chose to get the grouper blackened with mashed potatoes and broccolini. The fish was so good. The mashed potatoes were awesome. Veggie good too. One of the best meals I have ever had at ORC. Our server Rosa was very nice but she disappeared for long periods of time and multiple times. The assistant server really held everything together for us and I hate I forgot his name. He was so nice and helpful with more drinks, utensils, etc. We ordered rum cake for dessert and it was delicious. I love the colors and vibe of this spot along with the food.

We had the Florida roll and the tempura shrimp. So fresh! The service was phenomenal--a very attentive waitress. The food, although a bit pricey for an every weekend spot, was worth it because it was delicious. I would definitely recommend trying yhisbreaturant out if you have the opportunity.

5/5 - hands down. My opinion this is the best restaurant in Ocean Reed Club. Be prepared to drop some $$ though. If you don't have any reservations with money then go all out. Thankfully we were able to with a work trip allowance. I honestly can't pick out what was better between the food, service or atmosphere. Everything was just phenomenal. The best dish I had all week was the tuna pizza. Hands down it was amazing! Get it if you go here, you will not be disappointed. Our waiter was awesome. He was 4 days on the job but was one of the better waiters I've ever had. I've had better steak; however everything seafood was . Great restaurant.

I love this place. Probably the best place to eat in Ocean Reef. When you enter you will see a intimate little bar, make sure you grab a drink. They know how to pour. They also have a nice wine selection, but I recommend starting with a house bloody mary - they go great with the fish you are about to eat. The bar is so cozy and nice - don't forget going for dinner. The restaurant atmosphere is very simple, open and nautical themed. The service is beyond excellence. As you would expect, this is a fish place, and they have a very nice variety of hard to get fish. They also have a nice sushi bar at the end of the restaurant. The food is simply prepared because the ingredients are so high quality. There is no reason to ruin a fish, that was just caught, with a ton of oil and butter. They have a huge variety of fresh catch. Try something different. I highly recommend the Hog Snapper. They serve a nice sized piece of fish that can be shared. We had all our vegetables steamed. The desserts are also very nice. Try the chocolate brownie. A very enjoyable experience and will certainly be back soon.

Might be the best dinner we have had in a long time. Rosa was a spectacular server. The food was incredible!! The lobster was 'Angry' but I was so so happy.

We shared the fish dip (AMAZING!!), and the shrimp cocktail as our appetizers. The shrimp were Huge! We had a few bloody Mary's and they were also really, really good! Fresh, handmade. No mix! I had a mixed greens salad with a blackened tuna yellowtail on top. The salad was not good. The tuna was ok. A little cold. A little tough, not a lot of flavor, even though it was blackened and I squeezed lemon on it. The "mixed greens" were kinda disappointing. It was mostly big pieces of iceberg lettuce. So, overall, the salad (which came to $40) was the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 for the food. My friends ordered a cheeseburger, a soup, a mahi-mahi sandwich, and a chicken sandwich. I don't know how the mahi mahi was, but I know she didn't finish half of it. We had key lime pie for dessert. That was also very good! If I return I'll try something else besides a salad. Everything else that we had was really good! Just for my bill alone, it was $70 for tip, so also not a cheap place. But, you can't beat the location!

Five stars, and I want to explain this properly because High Tide in Key Largo is absolutely a…read moreplace people should experience at least once. This is one of those spots that immediately tells you it's a local favorite the second you walk in. It feels homey, lived in, and deeply rooted in the community. The average crowd definitely skews older, which honestly just shows how loyal the regulars are and how long this place has been doing something right. We stood for a minute or two when we arrived, which wasn't a problem at all, but the initial interaction felt a little abrupt. Nothing hostile, just very direct and urgent. We later found out that Cathy is the owner, and it became clear very quickly that this place is her whole world. She works hard, moves fast, and runs on urgency. That energy can sometimes come off sharp, especially to visitors who aren't used to that local, no frills style, but we gave her the benefit of the doubt. There were moments throughout our visit where the tone felt a little rough around the edges, and it wasn't just with us, we noticed it with other tables too. It didn't feel personal, more like someone who is stretched thin and running on fumes. To her credit, there were moments where she self corrected, and I genuinely believe this was just a long day rather than bad intentions. Running a place like this day in and day out is not easy, and you can feel how much effort goes into keeping it moving. This review isn't meant to tear anyone down, just to be honest for future guests so they know what to expect walking in. What truly changed our entire experience and pushed this from a four star visit to a solid five was our server. Her name started with a T, she wore glasses, and she was African American, and she was an absolute blessing. She treated us with warmth, patience, and genuine care, like we were family she was looking out for. When we sat down and the table needed to be wiped, she handled it gracefully without a single awkward moment. Everything she did felt intentional and kind. She was attentive without hovering, respectful, and genuinely happy to be doing her job. There was also a sweet older Latina woman clearing tables who was just as lovely and welcoming. It became very clear that despite the different personalities, this place functions as a team, and the heart of High Tide lives in the people who treat guests with care and humanity. If you get that server whose name starts with a T, you are in excellent hands. Now let's talk about the food, because this is where High Tide really shines. The hash brown casserole is a straight ten out of ten. No exaggeration. Comfort food perfection. Crispy, savory, and absolutely worth ordering. The country style platter we ordered was also a ten according to my friend, hearty and satisfying in the best way. The lobster benedict was good, I would give it about an eight. It's a fun, unique option if you want to try something different, but not the standout compared to the rest of the menu. And then there's the real star of the show, the Key lime pie. Even if you are not hungry, come for the pie. This is hands down the best Key lime pie I have ever had. Perfectly balanced, not overly tart, smooth and almost cheesecake like in texture. It's the kind of dessert that makes you pause after the first bite because it's that good. Beautifully presented too. The decor is charming and thoughtfully cluttered in a way that feels authentic, not staged. The bathrooms are old but very clean. Parking is a little quirky but manageable, and there is parking available if you're patient. Overall, the vibe is cozy, memorable, and unmistakably local. Would I come back? Absolutely, especially for the food and that pie. Cathy, you are clearly working your ass off, and I hope this was just a rough day. This review comes with honesty and flowers, not shade. Five stars for the food, the heart, and the people who make this place what it is. I do recommend it.

We ate inside (Floridians like us know better than to expose ourselves to the heat and No See Um's outside at dusk). We thoroughly enjoyed the inside ambiance. Well done. The spacious patio out back did also actually look nice. I wanted to give this 5 stars but my husband was not impressed by the taste (or lack thereof) of his bacon burger so I had to take away a star. I had a delicious Woodrow Chicken sandwich piled high with their signature onions and bbq sauce. When they brought it out, I wondered how I could possibly get the huge thing into my mouth. It was enormous (see photo) and tasty. I cut it in half and ate leftovers the next day. Service was good except our waitress did seem to struggle a bit. She either could not hear us or did not understand us (language issue?). At least she kept asking us until she understood. I do appreciate that. We were skeptical but our order came out right, yippee! We even splurged by getting dessert. Can't pass up chocolate cake when it appears on the menu (rarely). It was a beautiful presentation (see photo)! Next time you are in Key Largo, give these folks a try. You won't be disappointed.
