Updating my review to say that Num-Thai is still the best, most affordable, and fresh sushi in the upper keys. Since my family has a house in Key Largo just 5 minutes away from here, this has been our go-to takeout spot for years. We ordered last night and once again I was thrilled at such a delicious and affordable meal. I opted for the sushi boat for one - at $26 it includes a soup or salad, 5 pieces of nigiri, 15 pieces of sashimi and tuna tetaki and a california roll. That is a ridiculous deal and I was able to share my portion as it is a looot of food. We also ordered two orders of Kanisu, chicken teriyaki, edamame, and a seafood salad. This was a large order and I was pleased that it was just $100 which is really a steal for so much fresh sushi. There is a reason this spot has been here for years and keeps locals coming back, fresh food, friendly service and great pricing. While we usually do takeout, you can dine in. Came on a Saturday it was very packed (that's a good sign). Waited about 15 minutes for a table then 10 minutes for the waiter to come take our order. We ordered the Thai beef jerky and it came out pretty quickly. It was the best thing we've ever eaten. We scarfed it down so quickly we didn't even take a picture. That's when it took a turn. We had also ordered the beef tataki and it came out 40 minutes later and it was over cooked. It supposed to be lightly seared. The flavor was still good. Our sushi came out an hour after we placed our order. It was very good but waiting that long for raw fish was a bit excessive. Do want to come try on a weekday. Num-Thai is an interesting hybrid of Thai and Japanese cuisine, with a little Chinese thrown in for good measure. The interior is typical for a dine-in Asian restaurant - cozy with dim lighting. We ordered takeout online; the order was ready on time, accurate, and delicious. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality and quantity, ordering online was easy, and the staff was friendly. The miso soup was warm and savory, and the hiyashi wakame (seaweed salad) was one of the briniest I've had the pleasure to enjoy. The most interesting item was the vegetable sushi roll (SBN7 specifically). In addition to the typical cucumber, carrots, and avocado these standard veggies are supplemented by broccoli, asparagus, spinach, and snow peas, which adds additional flavor and texture to the roll. The only suggestion I have is to add a few plant based milk options for the bubble tea - it sounded so lovely, but was only available with dairy milk. read more

I just knew I was going to like this restaurant! Having read previous reviews and noting their use of robots to deliver food to the table, it just look looked like something I needed to try! The restaurant is located in a small strip mall on the west side of Highway one in Key Largo. There is a dedicated parking lot. We were pleasantly greeted by a woman who is clearly the matriarch of the restaurant. We were offered our choice of seating as it was still early. We grabbed a spot where we could keep an eye on the sushi bar. Our food came out astonishingly fast. The atmosphere is a fun mix of Asia meets the Florida Keys. Restaurant is clean and servers super friendly. We were happy to note that there is a dinner time happy hour from 5 to 7 PM where select main entrées are offered at significant discounts. Entrées are accompanied by choice of miso soup or salad for a dollar extra which was a bargain. We had their Pad Thai with shrimp, which was very tasty. We ordered a few pieces of their sushi which was fresh but the role was a little on the small side. The restaurant has a full bar available and offers signature drinks. In addition to the robot delivering food from the kitchen, the team was very much in sync, keeping an eye on everyone in the restaurant, as we waited for nothing! We had a really good dinner and for the first time in a week we're not leaving with sticker shock from the Key Largo prices. Ok so this is a difficult review because the place looks cute, we were very quickly seated and the soup was delicious. But that is where the good stop. The salad dressing was pure water and it tasted like nothing. The pad Thai noddles looked like scrambled noddles, there was no peanuts as every other pad that I ever had. Considering pad Thai is my favorite Thai dish I was very disappointed. Service was ok, our server was not great but the other people around was all very friendly. This was an awesome dinner experience and it also seems pretty popular. New find for me but old mainstay in the upper keys. Started with that tea, miso, & Tom yum goon soups. Appetizers was the Thai egg rolls while we waited for our robot delivery order from Amanda. We got rainbow roll , spicy Thai, dragon, largo, & Fuji roll, and a bagel roll to go for our daughter. My son had the Panang chicken, delicious, & dessert was the lychee nuts, & Thai donuts. Everything was awesome, service before the dinner rush was excellent. If you're a couple on a date there are 3 elevated tatami seating stations which if I was younger and more pliable would have sat there with my hubby but we also had our son, and again I'm not that pliable anymore. We have eaten here since they opened... It has gone downhill tremendously!!! Horrible service,even the robots suck. The fish, is bad about a third of the times we go. And they advertise on Google that they are open till 10:15pm. They actually close at 9:45 pm and refuse service after. If you are there eating, they stand over you like vultures, starting around 9:30 pm, trying to hustle you out. They also keep all the tips and do not give them to the servers.... Who would've thought I'd find Thai and Japanese food in Key Largo. But I did! And for a great value! FOOD - Pad Thai: tasted pretty good. Not the best I've ever had in my life, but very good (and pretty authentic) given the area. It's a good portion too. I'd definitely come back for it if I was closer. Basil stir fry: not at all as basil-y as I expected and it didn't taste that authentic. However, it was still tasty and a good way to get your veges in! Dinner combo: for $18, you get so much raw fish. Definitely a great value. Obviously not the BEST sashimi quality you'll ever have, but I didn't expect it to be. The sushi rice was well marinated as well. AMBIANCE: Kind of an old restaurant with old decorations (so not the most romantic of places). SERVICE They have these really cool robot servers that entertained me so much. The food also came out SO fast, I was very surprised. It was easy to get hold of the waiters. A nice plus is that their silverware came out HOT. Nice knowing that it's clean (especially right now). This is my favorite restaurant as a local but they recently raised the prices of every single item significantly if you order online. You are also slapped with an additional $1.50 charge for ordering online. This is not acceptable to me. To get around this, call and place your pick up order and save a ton of $$$$. Ordering online has negative consequences so unfortunately, until Num addresses this situation, it's going to be a lot more work for the employees here. I used to eat here 2-3 times a week. Now it's 1-2 times a month because of the extra charges and the crappy website that tries to force me to use it. It's the SAME FOOD it should cost the SAME PRICE. read more

Only my 2nd time coming here since the pandemic and I must say I felt safe. They have spaced out the tables in the main dining room. All employees are masked. It was Saturday night, but not yet super busy. As always, service was super attentive and friendly. We kept watching the robot bringing the food to the tables. I am not sure the purpose as a human took the food off the robot and placed it at each table. That made the robot seem kind of redundant. Food was, as previous, very good. Based on a recommendation from my diving guide, I decided to check out Num Thai. Whenever I visit a new Thai restaurant, my go-to dish is the Pad Woonsen, as it's my personal favorite. The Clear Noodle (Pad Woonsen) here was decent, and I ordered it with fried tofu, and really enjoyed it with the hot sauce powder they provided. I also ordered vegetable tempura as an appetizer. The tempura came in large chunks, which made it a bit difficult to bite into, but overall it was tasty. The owner was friendly, and we even had a chat about local diving spots, since I mentioned that I was here on my own on a diving trip. An interesting highlight was the sushi robot that roamed around the restaurant, serving sushi to the tables. Although I didn't order sushi, it was entertaining to watch the little robot. I come to Key Largo once or twice a year for diving, and I actually ordered takeout from Num Thai last year. Based on my experience, I would definitely return in the future. read more

My family and I had dinner at this restaurant on October 5th around 9:30 PM, and the experience was awful. I feel obligated to share what happened because we were hit with both bad food and terrible service. Hopefully, others can avoid what we went through. There were two of us, and we ordered four dishes: sashimi, beef stir-fried noodles, fried soft-shell crab, and a lobster roll. After taking a couple of bites of the beef stir-fried noodles, we were shocked to find a nearly 4-inch long hair tangled up with the beef. I was eating at the time and felt so disgusted I almost threw up. I immediately called over a server. A different server came--not the one who took our order--but she was dressed the same as everyone else. I pointed out the hair, and she looked at it and said in broken English, "That's not hair, it's probably a black thread from an apron, but it shouldn't be in the food." I told her, "It's definitely a hair. I'm hungry, so can you please tell me how you're going to fix this?" She said she'd have the kitchen remake the dish and took the hair away. Since we'd just come back from Key West and were heading to Miami, it was already late when we arrived. After she handled the situation, I didn't see that server again, and we were given the bill, which we paid. However, we waited nearly 15 more minutes, and the replacement noodles never arrived. I called over the manager to explain. The manager had no idea what had happened. I explained that one of their staff saw the hair and promised to remake the dish. The manager said that the person I spoke to wasn't even their server, but just a food runner who didn't handle these issues. The manager also said that in Miami, if you have a problem, you should only talk to the server assigned to your table. But how was I supposed to know the staff not a server? It was my first time at this restaurant, and all the staff were dressed same. And when I needed help, where was my actual server? I asked the manager how they planned to fix this, and she called the owner over. The owner told me the kitchen was closed, so they couldn't remake the dish. Since I had already eaten part of it, they wouldn't give me a refund either. This was how they dealt with the issue. As a tourist, and a first-time customer at this restaurant, when I had a problem, at least three staff members saw me call for help. One person came over and made a promise, only for them to later claim she didn't understand my request because she didn't speak English. Are you kidding me? This felt like they were just messing with me. After a long day of traveling, I was exhausted, and to be treated like this? I'm beyond disappointed in this restaurant, Key Largo, and Miami. I hope every tourist reads this and understands the kind of service they'll get here. I've returned to my hotel now, but I'm still so upset that I can't calm down. I had to write this review to share what happened. By the way, the sashimi wasn't fresh either. As a sashimi fan, I can tell when the fish is mushy and has a strong fishy smell. read more

We were going to be in the area for the afternoon and came here based on the excellent reviews. Party of 10 including 2 kids. My boyfriend said he hasn't had Pad Thai this good in a long time. Nephew (age 8.5) enjoyed his Panang Curry. Niece enjoyed vegetable fried rice. Prices are very affordable. Family razzed me at first for making them wait one hour to eat lunch but after their meal they were all very appreciative and said "nice work finding this restaurant." Came here for sushi dinner to get some fresh fish. This is a very cute place that is decorated inside with lots of bright colors and fun patterns. My friend and I were seated in a booth area that you step into so that your feet hang but it's like you're sitting on the floor. I've been to Thailand and they sit on the floor during dinner so that was fun. The sushi we ordered was very fresh, just what I was craving. The rolls are large (about 10 pieces each) so you are getting your money's worth. I didn't try any of the Thai food, but the fried rice that came out for another table was a huge mound and looked very good. The servers were very attentive with water refills which was nice. Not sure what happened when we tried to pay to go though. We asked 3 different people that came by and one of them 3 different times for our check. Not sure if it was shift change and they all thought someone else was doing it but by the time it came I was ready to go. Only reason I took off one star.
