Enjoyed an unexpected evening at Sol by the Sea in Key Largo. Looking for ocean views and a seafood forward menu, my friend and I lucked out with a OpenTables reservation during golden hour. And let me just say- Sol delivered. We had an incredible oceanfront view just in time for the sunset. Service was attentive and friendly, the menu was minimal but we found some solid offerings. Firstly, I'd recommend skipping appetizers. The edamame hummus was a generous portion but certainly not worth the $21 price tag. The poké bowl and protein bowl were both generous servings. Beware- the poké bowl doesn't have rice! And "blackened" in Florida really just means seasoned, so if you're looking for charred mahi you better be specific! Overall, definitely check it out and make a reservation in advance! read more

We made reservation. Because it was our 50th anniversary. Called many times on the phone ... with no answer so went in person... On the day of the reservation . It was extremely windy and cold.... We waited 30 minutes for a table. The restaurant did not appear to be that busy.... We went into the bathroom just to warm up When we ask about turning on the heaters we were told they had no gas.. then ask maybe they could lower the winter windows. .. we froze along with many others. Food. Slow coming out of the kitchen. Another 20-30 minutes before appetizers appeared.... Main course good. But at this point so cold even when wearing winter coats ... that I was miserable .. having lived in the keys I know in the winter we get cold snaps.... And many restaurants , prepare for those days by enclosing and heating the dining area ... Management should care for there customers better. read more

Arriving a few minutes before our ressie, we were seated immediately and brought water and drinks. Lucky for us, one of our party was really missing the traditional thanksgiving dinner and they had a special for the evening to solve that immediate hankering crisis. Whew... Also lucky for us, we were so pleased to have Nya as our server/ a true delight and an asset to this restaurant ( or any other, IMHO ). Friendly and cheerful, she was such a pleasure to have checking in on us making sure we had an excellent experience. Lobster salad was a hit and the flavors of every dish we tried were delicious. The portion size, however, was lacking. I ordered the stone crab claws and they were on the smaller size. The burger I had was good as well but barely bigger than a slider you might get somewhere else. To sum it up, bigger prices because you're in a resort but much smaller portions than you might expect. Mrs Me really loved the grouper ceviche she ordered and the plantain chips made it stand out. My daughter wanted steamed broccoli but had to resort to a sliced avocado instead. If it weren't for the excellent service and the really relaxing atmosphere of eating right along the beach, it would've been a lesser meal. This was on the of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I was looking for a restaurant that served seafood and had scenic views of the sunset; then, I found this place that was conveniently located near where I was staying, as well. Everything here was incredible - the service, the food, the ambiance, the views. I would highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a great place for outdoor dining and looking for very fresh seafood. Not many options for vegetarians BUT it's a cute vibe inside, very restaurant on the water vibe and decorated well. We were here on a mini honeymoon and the staff was super nice and brought out delicious strawberry crème brulee. We had such a special anniversary dinner here. The views are unbeatable, which would be reason enough alone to come here, but the food is also really good. Take advantage of the ability to add a lobster tail to your entree--you won't regret it! The cocktails and especially their unique vessels are also a highlight. The food is average, the decor is beautiful, and the service was great. What stood out was the fantastic Colombian style bread that came with the meal. Wow, we got some to go too. The butter was sweetened which made the bread more like a dessert. The Mahi fish dip was great too. Everything else... Well... 3/2025. We ate here around 5:30 pm. Must have reservations. We were quickly seated. Our waitress was very good. For appetizer we had the fish dip. Some of the best fish dip we have had. For our meal we had peel and eat shrimp and Caesar salad and they were both good. My wife and I just wasn't hungry and after tasting the fish dip we was sad we wasn't hungry. If the fish dip was any indication of how good the food was, It would have been delicious, but we just were not hungry. We also ordered their made in house key lime pie and it was very delicious, actually amazing. Again our waitress was very very good. Went there for brunch. What a mistake. If only the food was as good as our server. The Parmesan tomato was raw. Disgusting unless you like raw food. The fingerling potato's were cooked two days ago. Hard and zero flavor. Grouper sandwich was ok. Fish was overcooked and the bread was old. The eggs Benedict were cold and the English muffin was like a rock. We enjoyed a lovely group dinner last week at Sol by the Sea. Compliments to chef Ricardo Burke for taking excellent care of our group, including those with a gluten-free allergy, Chef Burke came out to explain what options were safe to eat. The Caesar salad sans croutons and the mahi mahi were excellent. Chef Burke reappeared four times to check how we were doing - going above and beyond the call of duty. It's apparent the staff at Playa Largo Resort is well trained. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and had a positive attitude, making for a terrific college reunion. read more

Everything went exceptionally well. We had the pleasure of meeting Chef Ron, whose inspiration led us to try the Lobster Special--a delectable dish featuring succulent lobster stuffed with a paella-inspired yellow saffron rice. Service was terrible. Having 20% gratuity really doesn't motivate anyone. It was pre booked as a birthday celebration and the food took over 2 hours at not a busy hour, saw the waitress 3 times and wasn't offered a dessert menu, let alone a smile. The online Instagram photos sell the place but in reality it's a frozen hamburger, long wait and poor service. It was dark so the atmosphere was distracted by the setting. However, the food is lacking for how much you spend per dish. 1 drink, 1 mocktail, an appetizer , 2 entrees =$180?? 20% gratuity is also included no matter what, which i'm not a fan of. My meal and the other women included, all the food lacked flavor. The wings were amazing , if you come get that and only that. Like the typical hotel restaurant I was expecting mediocre food and a pricey bill. The food ended up being very good. The fried snapper had to be easily 3-4lbs cooked and the taste was phenomenal. It's tough to find, but the search was worth it. I had heard of this spot from friends. So I tagged it and thought I would go some day when down Key Largo way. last weekend a few of us were down there and went out to dinner and I made a reservation at Sol by the Sea. We got out the Uber and I was a little surprised when we were at a nice hotel. We meandered through out the grounds looking for the place. at one point we found it, but it was a different restaurant. But after a few more minutes we found it, of course, right on the beach. We got our table, and then drinks, right as the sun was setting. It was honestly a very beautiful spot for a sunset; as good as I have seen in the keys. And I had it with friends, and darn good dragon fruit mojito! I'm not a big mojito guy, but everyone at the table agreed it was the best drink. We got some appetizers, the conch fritters were plenty good. For the entrée there was some upscale choices. We went with the slightly different, seafood mac and cheese. scrumptious. Throw in a caramel cheesecake and you have a near perfect sunset dinner. read more

We are here twice during our stay at the Playa Largo Resort. The staff was extremely friendly, and made our rainy stay so much better. We would have been lost without this restaurant being on property. It made it so much easier to just walk right to it during the huge storm we experienced. We came here on our first night for dinner after checking in. The sunset views alone made it all worth it! Our bartender while we waited for our table was awesome! He made the greatest drinks, to which I highly recommend the dragon fruit mojito! We tried a variety of menu items during both our visits from the spicy conch fritters (SO good), hummus, buffalo chicken sandwich, to the seafood mac-n-cheese, playa burger, and bayside wings tossed in caribbean sticky sauce.
