After a long voyage through the waters of Key Largo, our crew arrived by boat and docked at SOL by the Sea, where visiting vessels are permitted to remain for two hours. Thus began our search for the fabled buried treasure of Captain Fats Montana. The restaurant is completely outdoors, covered, but without air conditioning. They did have fans and portable cooling units, though some of the older members of our expedition still suffered beneath the tropical heat. Thankfully, the incredible views, excellent service, and amazing drinks kept morale from collapsing entirely. I greatly enjoyed my grouper sandwich and thought the food was excellent overall. A few fellow adventurers had some complaints about their meals, but our service was consistently friendly and attentive. The drinks gave me enough strength to battle the cannibal tribe, uncover Captain Fats Montana's buried treasure, and claim my reward: 73 coupons for 10% off a footlong meatball sub at Subway. Sadly, they expire in 12 days, but that is a tale for another voyage. Beautiful views, great service, delicious drinks, and a memorable waterfront atmosphere. Just prepare for the heat if you're traveling with older companions. read more

We were staying at the resort attached to this restaurant and we had one more full day to check it out. We popped in for lunch and lived the openness of the restaurant. We ordered a couple fancy drinks to try and the ceviche. It was absolutely amazing and a must try if you like seafood. read more

Beautiful views right on the beach. Food was pretty good. The bread was super good! Don't expect tables to be in the water as pictured online. Also being by the water brings some pesky mosquitoes. Service was friendly but they were overwhelmed with how busy it was so a bit slow. Still overall a nice spot. read more

Nice casual outdoor restaurant. IMO the best restaurant at the Playa Largo Resort. Service is friendly and the food was great. Tried the churrasco as well as the snapper and they were both good. The Tres Leches dessert was yummy as well and the subset and water views were breathtaking. Only downside: we were there around 6ish pm right before the sun was setting and it was burning hot. A lot of the fans didn't work and I had to swap my table to another one in the shade almost missing my birthday pic. read more

Enjoyed an unexpected evening at Sol by the Sea in Key Largo. Looking for ocean views and a seafood forward menu, my friend and I lucked out with a OpenTables reservation during golden hour. And let me just say- Sol delivered. We had an incredible oceanfront view just in time for the sunset. Service was attentive and friendly, the menu was minimal but we found some solid offerings. Firstly, I'd recommend skipping appetizers. The edamame hummus was a generous portion but certainly not worth the $21 price tag. The poké bowl and protein bowl were both generous servings. Beware- the poké bowl doesn't have rice! And "blackened" in Florida really just means seasoned, so if you're looking for charred mahi you better be specific! Arriving a few minutes before our ressie, we were seated immediately and brought water and drinks. Lucky for us, one of our party was really missing the traditional thanksgiving dinner and they had a special for the evening to solve that immediate hankering crisis. Whew... Also lucky for us, we were so pleased to have Nya as our server/ a true delight and an asset to this restaurant ( or any other, IMHO ). Friendly and cheerful, she was such a pleasure to have checking in on us making sure we had an excellent experience. Lobster salad was a hit and the flavors of every dish we tried were delicious. The portion size, however, was lacking. I ordered the stone crab claws and they were on the smaller size. The burger I had was good as well but barely bigger than a slider you might get somewhere else. To sum it up, bigger prices because you're in a resort but much smaller portions than you might expect. Mrs Me really loved the grouper ceviche she ordered and the plantain chips made it stand out. My daughter wanted steamed broccoli but had to resort to a sliced avocado instead. If it weren't for the excellent service and the really relaxing atmosphere of eating right along the beach, it would've been a lesser meal. I was looking for a restaurant that served seafood and had scenic views of the sunset; then, I found this place that was conveniently located near where I was staying, as well. Everything here was incredible - the service, the food, the ambiance, the views. We made reservation. Because it was our 50th anniversary. Called many times on the phone ... with no answer so went in person... On the day of the reservation . It was extremely windy and cold.... We waited 30 minutes for a table. The restaurant did not appear to be that busy.... We went into the bathroom just to warm up When we ask about turning on the heaters we were told they had no gas.. then ask maybe they could lower the winter windows. .. we froze along with many others. Food. Slow coming out of the kitchen. Another 20-30 minutes before appetizers appeared.... Main course good. But at this point so cold even when wearing winter coats ... that I was miserable .. having lived in the keys I know in the winter we get cold snaps.... And many restaurants , prepare for those days by enclosing and heating the dining area ... Management should care for there customers better. read more

3/2025. We ate here around 5:30 pm. Must have reservations. We were quickly seated. Our waitress was very good. For appetizer we had the fish dip. Some of the best fish dip we have had. For our meal we had peel and eat shrimp and Caesar salad and they were both good. My wife and I just wasn't hungry and after tasting the fish dip we was sad we wasn't hungry. If the fish dip was any indication of how good the food was, It would have been delicious, but we just were not hungry. We also ordered their made in house key lime pie and it was very delicious, actually amazing. Again our waitress was very very good. We enjoyed a lovely group dinner last week at Sol by the Sea. Compliments to chef Ricardo Burke for taking excellent care of our group, including those with a gluten-free allergy, Chef Burke came out to explain what options were safe to eat. The Caesar salad sans croutons and the mahi mahi were excellent. Chef Burke reappeared four times to check how we were doing - going above and beyond the call of duty. Went there for brunch. What a mistake. If only the food was as good as our server. The Parmesan tomato was raw. Disgusting unless you like raw food. The fingerling potato's were cooked two days ago. Hard and zero flavor. Grouper sandwich was ok. Fish was overcooked and the bread was old. The eggs Benedict were cold and the English muffin was like a rock.
