A southern getaway right in Hawaii! This is the first restaurant I have been to in Hawaii where the menu wasn't modified with some Hawaiian culinary. The ambience, service, seating, country music, and outdoor seating which porch lights all put you in a small vacation to your favorite souther state, which for us is Texas. The service was good and the food was fresh, fast, and filling (so either wear your comfy pants or be prepared to bring home some leftovers. We hadn't had sweet tea in over two and a half years and the 30oz ice cold tea tasted just as sweet as we remembered. Also had to order their "Screaming" Mai Tai. Auto correct tried spelling it "Man Tai" and I agree that drink is large enough for a beast! I had never tried fried Mac n cheese, and let me tell ya them things are GOOD! So heavy though. Next time we will skip this unless coming just for apps and drinks. Plenty of options on the menu and several appetizers available including fried pickles. How could you come here for the first time and Not order brisket? I had to double up and get brisket x2 with a side of cornbread casserole and hush puppies. They offered at least six different bbq sauces including my favorite mustard based bbq. I'll be honest though I like my brisket without the sauce. Definitely used the Texas toast to soak up the grease and meat juice for added flavor! If you can't tell from this review, I was in heaven tonight. My wife too. Not only was the food amazing but it was such a lively place filled with smiling faces and everyone having a great time. This is an awesome place for dinner with friends and large groups or to catch a game with friends. It is very cheap. Considering we were a party of five who ordered drinks, appetizers, big meals, and dessert and to have it all come just just $90 was pretty impressive. Little disappointed tonight. Been coming here for a while now but always just for a burger and beer. Which is pretty routine, nothing spectacular, but will fill the hole. Tonight, I tried the shrimp and grits. Meh, nothing I'd ever order again. The shrimp were ok, there was some sausage, but it was all covered in this weird gravy then had celantro atop it. Just not impressed. Also ordered their banana pudding for my kids. The pudding was good, just like Bill Cosby would recommend J.E.L.L.O then with Nilla wafers and whipped cream. However, there were these wicked brown, rubbery things inside. I fished them out and they look like banana sliced, but have the consistency of a rubber chew toy or teething ring for a toddler. I think I'll go back to my staple menu, burger and fries. They can put their "South" into someone else's mouth. To be honest, if there were a Teddy's burgers next door that served beer, I'd go there instead. UPDATE!!!! Since having this meal last night, I have had some pretty spectacular room clearing noxious gas. The onslaught began within two hours after having left the restaurant. Brisket is dry. Mashers were underwhelming. Only redeeming dish was the tangy roasted brussel sprouts I ordered as a side. The small sauce-tray-sized cole slaw tasted a bit funny. So, I ordered the Mac and cheese because it was a pretty late dinner and I didn't have an appetite to eat their bbq items on the menu. Ummm, let's just say that the Mac and cheese was very bland and had no taste. It was also not as hot as I thought it would be. It felt like someone just threw the plate in a microwave and heated it up for a couple minutes. I was actually shocked because of the good reviews I'd hear about. I was disappointed because I was really craving some good home made Mac and cheese. It was really difficult for me to finish my plate, I usually never have leftovers or waste any food, but yeah...I just couldn't eat another bite. I crave BBQ and sweet tea constantly and this place is so good! It compares to the great BBQ I had in Georgia and Texas! I always get the Mac n cheese with pulled pork on top! It's cheesy and creamy and the meat adds such a nice layer of taste. The homemade BBQ sauces are so good too! And you can mix whatever ones you want! Also, the sweet tea is as big as my head and unlimited refills, aka HEAVEN! I highly suggest ordering the Frickles appetizer! The siracha sauce to dip them in is killer! This place is amazing!!!! Def has the southern bbq flavor I was craving!!! Their smoked brisket is cooked to perfection just melts in your mouth. I love that they offer a variety of different sauces from the south depending on what flavor you're looking for. I tried them all and all have those tastes from those specific areas. Def a great place to go to if you're craving/wanting southern bbq in Hawaii/Oahu. And I love that they serve their sweet tea like it's supposed to be in a big tall mug. Really good to see a bbq place more like the ones you find in the mainland. Ribs were well seasoned and tender. I ordered them wet which meant sauce on top. I have been going to Dixie Grill since they first opened on Ward Ave. over a decade ago. When it was still owned by the two original guys. I went to the Aiea one yesterday for the first time in a year, and was shocked at how awful it was. It's never been like this. It was always consistently good+. The decor was purged down to a minimalist scheme. If you know this restaurant, you know that it is jampacked with kitschy seafood and crab type decor. It was as if it's soul had been ripped out. There were only a few beer signs and one of the original paintings from when it first opened. No crabs painted on the windows, no silly signs, no character left. I have had almost everything on the menu there over the years. I ordered the beef brisket yesterday with a side of grits and coleslaw. It has always been one of my favorites. The grits were fine, but I don't know how you would screw them up? I have always loved their coleslaw, but yesterday's was not even edible. It was limp, had no seasoning of celery seeds, and had no vinegar in it. It was disgusting and I couldn't eat it. The brisket itself, which has always been thickly sliced, juicy, and pink, was overcooked, thin, and dry. I ate it, and it wasn't the worst thing I've ever eaten, but it was not what it should have been. The BBQ sauce made it tolerable. At least my swamp water alcoholic beverage was the same as it always was... which is yummy. I went to use the women's restroom before leaving, and both toilets were clogged. The floor was wet and slippery. It also smelled pretty moldy in there. And as the dining room was devoid of character enhancing decor, so was the restroom. I don't know if the owner sold it over the last year when he sold the Auntie Pasto's Kunia location, but I think that's what happened. I don't believe that the original owner would allow it to become this bad. I just want my old Dixie Grill back! Please fix it! It's horrific! On the real, got this place on recommendation from Star 102.7 in a Second Date Update on the Keola and Rella morning show. The second date did not go well for the guy. Cause he couldn't stop embarrassing himself and his date over how good the Pickle Brine Fried Chicken Sandwich is! I gotta say, the dude was right!!! Came here on a Saturday night. The restaurant wasn't super busy based on appearance. We were immediately seated upon entering and then ordered drinks shortly after. I ordered the crab legs and fries. We also ordered some of the Buffalo shrimp. I noticed the Buffalo shrimp were extremely too spicy and were overly drenched in sauce. The crab legs were cold and didn't have much meat. Ate lunch here today with my family. I haven't been here in ages. I called in advance to see if I needed reservations and they told me it was first come first serve. I was meeting my family here for lunch after my daughter's doctor appointment. I got here early to secure a table, and waited for my wife and daughter to arrive. They were nice enough to seat me and let me wait for the rest of my party to arrive. Everyone was friendly, the place was clean, and tables were far apart due to social distancing. I ordered the Fish n Chips and it was really good! The batter was light and crispy, and the crinkle fries were cooked just right. My wife and daughter had the Catfish, and they both loved it. The food arrived quickly and our server refilled our drinks often. I knocked off 1 star because my coke was flat. I did ask to switch it to a sprite and that was flat too. Had a very late lunch around 3ish during the weekday. It was happy hour. My friend ordered a cosmo that looked brown instead of red. Needless to say, it didn't taste good. Other people were buying Mai tais that came in a huge beer cup and that looked like a better deal. Service was friendly but slow. The place had customers but wasn't packed. Went here for happy hour and CRABFEST! Mmm...it was so delicious! I forgot what the name of the platter we got but it came with crab and corn and potatoes. It didn't look like it would be filling but it was. We also got the oysters and the philly cheese steak brisket and the crab cakes. Everything was delicious except the cheese steak, It was ok. Not bad or good just ok. The meat was dry. The shrimp is really good too. Our waiter was AWESOME! Nickname is "The Savage" Atmosphere was super chill. I've come here many times before and the food and service has always been great. Happy hour is daily from 3-7pm. $5 for a 32oz beer and $10 for a 32oz Mai Tai? What else could you want? The pulled pork and brisket are delicious. Every time I come they are consistently smoked to perfection. You also get a variety of BBQ sauces. Happy hour pupus are pretty good too. I always get the jalapeño poppers! Today (Sept. 9, 2016 at 4:50pm), there was a miscommunication with the management and server which resulted in nobody taking our order or serving us. After about 15 minutes of nobody nobody taking our order or even bringing us water (we even tried flagging down some of the servers who informed me that my server would be right with me), we moved to the bar. We voiced our concerns to the bartender who immediately got us food, drinks, and rushed our order. She then got the manager involved and he comped one of my husband's beers and my screaming mai tai (with a free floater of 151). They were very apologetic and kept checking on us until they were sure we left with smiles. I don't mind when a restaurant makes a mistake. Mistakes happen.
