Went here for happy hour and CRABFEST! Mmm...it was so delicious! I forgot what the name of the platter we got but it came with crab and corn and potatoes. I've come here many times before and the food and service has always been great. Happy hour is daily from 3-7pm. $5 for a 32oz beer and $10 for a 32oz Mai Tai? What else could you want? The pulled pork and brisket are delicious. Every time I come they are consistently smoked to perfection. You also get a variety of BBQ sauces. Happy hour pupus are pretty good too. I always get the jalapeño poppers! Today (Sept. 9, 2016 at 4:50pm), there was a miscommunication with the management and server which resulted in nobody taking our order or serving us. After about 15 minutes of nobody nobody taking our order or even bringing us water (we even tried flagging down some of the servers who informed me that my server would be right with me), we moved to the bar. We voiced our concerns to the bartender who immediately got us food, drinks, and rushed our order. She then got the manager involved and he comped one of my husband's beers and my screaming mai tai (with a free floater of 151). They were very apologetic and kept checking on us until they were sure we left with smiles. I don't mind when a restaurant makes a mistake. Mistakes happen. The baked beans and complimentary bbq sauce tasted like they were a suped up version of Bush's Baked Beans and a spicier version of Bullseye (both I like, but docked points for lack of originality). The part that REALLY made me groan was they tried to pass off regular white grain as their signature Creole rice. The girl confirmed "Creole rice" while calling in my order. Maybe someone screwed up? The nail in the coffin only goes deeper. True, I've never been to the south but I've had great (or at least what passes off as authentic) Southern BBQ here on Oahu - driving out to spots in Wahiawa and Kaneohe from Aiea. And while I was ecstatic to hear the Dixies on Ward was now in my 'hood with a smorgasbord of smoked shenanigans, I am yet to be impressed. Just had the worst lunch ever. My husband and I are both from South Carolina. My hopes weren't as high as our delicious Low Country fare, but having heard great things about this place we were expecting at least a good meal. Dead wrong. The only thing that I would say I liked was the Sweet Tea. After that it was all down hill. Our $4.50 side salads were just chopped iceberg lettuce with some tomatoes and onions. And that "homemade ranch"? Yeah right. Tasted like generic grocery store stuff. From there, my husband got the Country Fried Steak (one of his all-time favorite meals) with the Mac and cheese and also what they are passing for baked beans. Umm, they're basically just refried beans with barbecue sauce mixed in. I'm not sure if this is normal in other places in the south, but I have never seen baked beans like this. His Mac and cheese was less than appealing, and the steak was super chewy. I got the shrimp po boy and fries. I should've known better. The shrimp tasted weird, bread was cold, as were the fries (I could've gone around the corner to Wendy's and had better fries). We've been here before a couple of years ago and the food is pretty decent, however we really enjoyed the food when Dixie Express was still open at the navy-marine golf course. The food was pretty close to the Dixie Express that we used to frequent (of course it cost a bit more than at this location than the Express), but in Hawaii there aren't many options for Bar-B-Q. We are at the three Choice plate which comes with two sides and your choice of meat so we had the meatloaf, the pulled pork, and the brisket, plus since we also like chicken wings, we ordered the appetizer. All of the food was good and even though it was probably price a little high, we will probably come back one day, but I think if you could come earlier in the day, it might be a little bit better because the brisket and the pulled pork was slightly drier then I remember, but the wings were pretty moist and tasty. However it was crowded, as a lot of the people from the Navy base like to come here, and it's a good option if you have no other place to eat BBQ food. read more

Whew, took the challenge. Almost four pounds of crab. Dungeness, Snow, King, and Bairdi. Cajun spices butter, with ten new potatoes, two whole corn and iced tea. Two and a half hours later. I concede. Ate everything except for two corn, six potatoes, and two crab clusters. Belly very full, and me very Happy. The crabs were unbelievable sweet, firm and juicy. Almost better than eating fresh off the pier in Washington. The shells cracked perfectly, and the meat came out whole. No problems pulling it out from the joints and knuckles. Spices permeated the meat so that dipping in the butter was not needed. Wait service rivals a Japanese sushi bar. Once I was served, settled they never bothered me. Everything was anticipated. Iced tea was constantly refilled. Lemon was brought out after each refill. Shells were placed in a plastic bag on the table, and the waitress kept comming by to shake down the overflowing shells, readjusting the bag, and refilling my napkins. Stopped in by chance on our way home. Open air bar type place. They give you a basket of popcorn when you are seated. Southern fried food for sure. Our waiter was great. I like to get combo plates so I can have different meats and sauces. Their sides and apps are also good. From the bar, their screamin' Mai Tai is HUGE and delicious, don't forget to get the 151 float on top...but seriously, not for lightweights. Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! We ate at Dixie Grill after a day of visiting Pearl Harbor. We sat on the patio and had great service. Our daughter lived in Hawaii for 5 years while attending college and this was one of her favorites so we wanted to be sure and get this one in. We started with the frickles and they were so good!! Really great place to eat. We spent about 55$ with tip and appetizer. We are from Texas so it was exciting to have some real sweet tea and BBQ. I initially rated this place only 4 stars because my portion of sausage was something a small child would maybe get full off of. If you get a plate from "the smoker" I suggest getting the brisket because you get a generous helping with that plate. For the sides- the coleslaw has a very different taste. This was our second time and our last. We had 2 Brisket plates, fish and chips, and the fried okra. The brisket was cold and fatty and seemed leftover from maybe lunch. Out of the small portion, 50% was fat. Fish had absolutely no salt or anything. It was simply fried beer batter on fish. Our son refused to eat it and when I tasted it I understood why it had no seasoning at all, none. The okra was soggy and barely battered. I do not recall it being like this the first time we came. The cap had sauce around it and the bottle as well. She explained she had to pour the sauce into the bottle. Who does that and why didn't she use a new bottle? If they sell bottled sauces why did the 8.00 $ bottle they tried to sell us look as though it was taken off of a dining table? I do not even think that meets the food safety requirements. After that, I looked to see if I could find their foodservice rating and could not find it posted on the door or around the entrance. I've been here 4 times now and every time has been so so good!! Any burger can be made with the impossible burger, which is mind blowingly good!! Like I thought they made a mistake and brought real meat.
