I came to District Tacos for lunch with a co-worker and it was both of our first time there. So I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was extremely underwhelmed with this place. I wanted to come here and get some yummy tacos with set toppings - like Taco Bamba, but instead, you get little baby tacos where you have to pick your own toppings. And the fish and shrimp tacos are only on special days! What is that! The menu is honestly super hard to read. They definitely could have laid it out better. My taco choices were: Al Pastor (pork with pineapple), Chorizo, and Carne Asada. For my toppings on all of them, I got the pico de gallo, jalapeno, and even more cilantro. (And before you tell me that I should have put beans and rice in them; I grew up in a Tex-Mex household. We don't put beans or rice in a burrito, unless it's a bean burrito. That's just weird. Those are sides.) But my burritos turned out tiny! I honestly wasn't too fond of any of them except the carne asada taco. It tasted great! I wish it lasted longer than a few small bites. I don't even know what the chorizo tasted like...but it tasted way off and was 100% not a good choice for a lunch taco. Lastly, the Al Pastor was definitely strange. The pineapples didn't really add much to the flavor and it was very bland. One thing I did really like about this place was the free salsa bar! I love me some tomatillo sauce!! I'd give this place a 2.5. Just very meh. Maybe I should get something other than their tacos next time, because those definitely fell flat. read more

I have been eagerly been awaiting the opening of District Taco right outside of the Dunn Loring Metro (on Prosperity). Looks like they are open or having a soft opening this week. Clean and new inside. There's a few counter seats across the windows and then about 4 long tables. You come in an order and they bring out the order with a number. I've never been to a District taco and I doubt they'd change their brand from my review but I think having a lot of topping choices makes for something bad decisions on the customers part. I added fresh jalepenos onto the "Mexican" style which had a few seeds left and it was too spicy and made my experience less pleasing. The carnitas were my favorite taco with really tender juicy meat. I usually really like Al Pastor (the pork with pineapples) and it was a bit dry and I've had better. The carne asada was a bit dry and not super flavorful. I would give it another shot though because there could be some quality control. We also had chips and salsa. The chips were really good. There's also a salsa bar, but if you order the chips and salsa they will bring a big cup size salsa. I wish they brought it out earlier or given it when we paid so we could munch while waiting. Looks like it will be a popular and convenient place for people to drop in on after work. Hope the food improves some more and I'll definitely give them more chances, if only for convenience. read more

Food is average. The best thing are their sauces. However the kiosk app is the worst design app that I've encounter, is not intuitive, they should just copy the chipotle app and do it that way. Looking at other reviews I see that I'm not the only one that thinks their kiosk ordering system sucks. A recommendation, if you come and get something to eat here, just avoid the kiosk app. read more

This is the second time that we have been to this particular District Taco location where I have witness the staffers not enforcing best restaurant practices. We are soo disappointed as we adore the coziness, the location, and atmosphere. However, with so many other options in the Merrifield neighbourhood, regrettably, we will not be returning. Here is a partial list of what we witness during our last visit: - Staffer used his hands to compress trash and then went straight to the register to take and help pack orders without washing his hands (Aside: The sink is in plain sight behind the counter and the staffer re-entered the cooking area swiftly to take an order.) - Staffer wiped the trash bins then used the same cloth to wipe down the tabletops; chairs; and the floor. - Staffer swept the floor and picked up items from the floor with his hands and then went immediately to the pickup station area to help bring out basket orders and pack some food orders. Double ouch. In addition, the staffers are wonderfully charming, yet a bit unknowledgeable on menu items when we inquired. Two thumbs way down. read more

I've always wanted to try a District Taco, so I made a special trip while I was in Fairfax for work. Honestly, it didn't live up to the hype. The guy handing out food was super nice and the guacamole is really good, but the rest left me disappointed. I'd take Chipotle over District Taco any day. 3 tacos for $8 is a great deal! You get to choose a protein (pollo, carne asada, carnitas, barbacoa, chorizo, and al pastor) and you get to pick a topping (Mexican Way, American Way and Jefe Way) Don't feel too pressured on the toppings because they have a salsa bar that comes with cilantro, jalapeño, onion, limes, pico de gallo and different salsas. Now... you may be drawn to utilizing the 3 for $8 deal because it is a steal! The tacos comes with 2 corn or flour tortillas each, but I'm going to be honest... the tacos weren't that great. We got the carne asada, barbacoa and al pastor tacos the Jefe Way and they didn't have much meat, toppings or flavor. Also, the food took a while to come out, so you would expect it to be hot because it is suppose to be freshly made, but the meat was not hot... the tacos were lukewarm at best. Any of the flavor that I got while eating the tacos came from the salsa that I added myself from the salsa bar. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the al pastor taco either. The cashier did mention that it comes with pineapple, but the pineapple was just soggy and sweet. If I were to come by District Taco again, I would probably try one of their bowls, since they looked more fresh compared to the tacos that I had. read more

District Taco tries to get the classic street taco experience but generally falls short. Pros: they have a toppings bar where you can add your own salsas, onions, cilantro, etc. They have the full array of street taco meets. The portions are decent (you can and should split each taco into two). They bring you your order. Menu is simple. Price is reasonable but not amazing ($8~9 is how much you'll spend). Cons: Slow. It took ten minutes for the five people ahead of me to place their orders and then it took twenty minutes for me to get my food. The food came out lukewarm. The flavors were disappointing except for the chorizo. Tips: I got the cheese and lettuce, dont make the same mistake... These are street tacos, cheese and lettuce don't go well with them. Order ahead and save yourself half an hour. If you're feeling tacos and are in the area, then give it a shot, but don't travel to go here. read more

It's like.. a more Mexican version of Chipotle but more colorful ambience. Price: $$ for what it is, but I'll pay it for the fast food-style convenience. Food: I'm in it for the salsas. My meals are 10% taco/burrito/bol, 40% extra toppings, 50% salsa dericiousness. Guac and queso are run of the mill, ok to pass on it. Atmosphere: Casual with fun flair. Super bright, and you can spy on them putting your dish together if you really care. Oh, and staff is so friendly.. it's kinda scary. Tacos were good, homemade, but the dining area was not kept clean. It wasn't very busy, and there were plenty hands on deck. A real turn off. It's remarkable that ANY establishment with ANY sense of propriety and presentability can overlook such an easy and simple measure of wiping down tables and picking up trash and a broom once in a while. First time visit in a long time and will definitely be back. Love the new churros. I'll come back just for them! I really appreciated small sign next to the straws talking about the environmental impact of straws and recommending using one of their coffee cup lids instead which is exactly what I did. Love that attention to details. Shared some nachos with my partner and while they were tasty we were wanting more of a melted cheddar cheese rather than what District is using. May not get nachos next time but I'm excited to come back for tacos and burritos, especially for the chorizo. The food is tasty but definitely overpriced. I have ordered the California burrito and tacos with Itza instead of meat. I was charged $2 extra to substitute my meat with Itza each time I ate here. I feel like the vegetarian option should be cheaper or at least equal to the meat option, but more importantly, burritos should never cost more than $8. That said, it definitely beats Chipotle or Moe's and the staff who work here are always friendly. read more

I've had District Taco a handful of times and there wasn't anything too memorable about it, but I decided to give it another shot since we live close by. The location is in the new shopping area next to the Dunn Loring metro, and there's free parking in the lot for up to 2 hours. My fiancé loved how there's all day breakfast so he ordered the breakfast burrito, while I ordered the burrito desnudo (burrito bowl) with chicken and a few other toppings. We also had the guac and chips to share. Everything was fresh, our food tasted good and the portions are generous, but it didn't blow our minds. Also, Chipotle guac is WAY better than District Taco guac. We'll be back to try their tacos, since that's what everybody seems to raving about. read more

Rounded down from 3.3 I kept on hearing and reading about District Taco from friends, as well as fellow yelpers, so I just had to try it. I went with a friend on a weekday around 6-7 and it was pretty empty, but got busy fast enough. The employee at the register was friendly, but looked she did not want to be there. The menu is simple. My friend ordered the Burrito Mojado while I opted out for their tacos, having to pick my protein and toppings. My friend's burrito bowl was just another version of a Chipotle bowl, although I prefer Chipotle. My tacos tasted alright. For my protein I picked: al pastor (rotisserie pork w pineapple), carne asada (grilled steak) and carnitas (pulled pork). Al pastor tasted weird to me, it did not seem like it was a good combination of spices and pineapple. My favorite meat was carnitas, cooked to perfection. They offer various sides, as well as salsas available at their salsa bar with spiciness level markings. Things I really appreciated: multiple power outlets throughout the restaurant and the card they give you with your order number can actually help one learn Spanish (look at the attached picture to see what I mean). I've only had the burritos at District Tacos but I've always thought they were really solid. Plenty of add on options (e.g., grilled veggies, beans, rice, cilantro, cheese, etc.,) at no cost and premium options for a small extra cost (guacomole, bacon, chorizo). They also have specials on particular nights with fish and shrimp. If the place is empty, you can get your burrito in about 5 minutes. Overall, the burritos are similar to Chipotle - fresh, reasonably priced, and stuffed with ingredients. It's defiitely a good spot if you want fast and decently priced Mexican food. read more

I tried District Taco in DC before and thought it was alright, I must've not been the right mood or I was comparing their burritos to Chipotle. Their tacos are amazing, especially their fish tacos. Awesomely seasoned fish, love the combo with the chipotle mayo and cabbage slaw. And I love that they have a salsa bar. I want to try their bowls but I can't help but get the tacos every time. 3 tacos doesn't seem like much but is a filling lunch. The decor inside is really cool and they have USB/power outlets right next to the table so that's pretty cool. The set up is similar to Cava and Chipotle. You get to pick what you want to get inside your foods and they have a lot of options for toppings. They also have a cool salsa bar next to the drinks station. We started with the queso and it was really good and comes with a huge bag of chips. *PSA: You can pick different meats for each of the different tacos you get.* I got the barbacoa, carne asada and pollo asado. I really liked the barbacoa, it had the most flavor. The carne asada wasn't as good as I thought it would be though but the pollo asado was really good. I work right down the street from this location. It was my first time having district taco and I like it a lot!Let's start with the most important The food! You pick what you want tacos burrito etc then choose a protein and lastly your toppings. I had nachos with chicken and for my toppings I had queso, sour cream, beans, pico de gallo (has tomato and onion), jelepeño, and cilantro. Even though it was an order of nachos it was very filling and delicious. Meat was a bit dry. My favorite part was the hot sauce/salsa bar kind of like moes. You can have as many as you'd like as well as pico de gayo and limes. They had two different types of each mild medium and hot sauces. The setup was somewhat like chipotle but better. There were visible outlets almost everywhere for you to use, arms reach from your seat. I will probably be going back soon to try some other options on the menu. read more

This is our third time here, but I have to say I was unpleasantly surprised. My wife and I had the breakfast burrito which was ok, but we got the cilantro from the salsa bar and put it on our burritos only to taste dirt. The staff failed to clean it, It was horrible. It was like eating a dirt burrito. After we reported it they brought cilantro from the kitchen and did not replace our food or remove the cilantro from the salsa bar "that how we get it from corporate". I told them you still have to clean produce, so it's safe to say that they don't wash any of there produce when it's served. I don't understand the appeal with DT or why there are so many in the area - it is a not-so-cheap knock-off of authentic mexican tacos. My friend had not been and we were a little hungry so we stopped in for a couple tacos each. I hadn't been in a few years and thought maybe the quality improved. I made a huge mistake. The tacos are $3 each (why?) for a mexican style (2 corn tortilla) taco. Not sure how big the flour ones are but these are normal small taco size. We tried four different meats, none of which were good - chicken, steak, pastor, and barbacoa. All dry. Which is why they have a huge self-serve salsa bar, I assume. Anyway, the only redeeming quality that DT has is the unlimited pico and other salsas. But I'm not wasting my time eating tacos here, you can find me at the trucks in Arlington. read more

Aside from the main district taco, this new merrifield district taco keeps that same great taste. Was a bit skeptical at first but since it's so close by my house I gave it a try. Wow...was way better than I expected. Steak and chicken was well marinated, chicken although a bit over cooked still wasn't a deal breaker. Their tacos at $8 per 3 tacos is a good not great deal as it fills my appetite. Would be great if they added a lunch menu price for the lunch rush Would've been 5 but the customer service the two times I've been here has been pretty subpar and non of them are very lively/energetic Tip: 1) they have no special tacos (shrimp/fish) on Wednesday's, so be wary of that if it's your first time 2) they have Swings coffee which is my go to coffee and NOT your everyday cheap coffee brand/roaster. The salsa bar is similar to Baja Fresh but more options and more flavor than Baja. LOVE the soda machine because they have cane sugar sodas that aren't Coke or Pepsi brand. Convenient location with ample parking available. From tacos to burritos, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I prefer to get them "Mexican style", reminds me of my Mexican taco trucks tacos. I took off a star because from my experience today, by the time they bring out your food, the protein you choose was cold at this location. It wasn't hot like it's served at the Arlington location. Also, I ordered the ensalada with carne asada only to be served a salad MINUS carne asada. I had to ask for them to give me my meat lol No big deal since I was eating in but I'd hate for this to happen to someone who got it to go! But still, great food.
