I went to Guapo's in Merrifield for a date with my boyfriend and we ended up having such a great time. We went on a random Sunday afternoon. We had no reservation, but had no wait and we were seated immediately. The restaurant has two sections, the main dining area, which is busy and full of families, and the bar area with high-top tables that feels a little quieter. We chose the bar side and it was perfect for a more relaxed, date-vibe. They also have a ton of holiday decor up and all the Christmas decorations made the whole place feel warm and festive too! Our waiter, Francisco, was amazinggggg! He checked on us at the right times without being overbearing, gave helpful suggestions, kept our drinks filled, and was genuinely friendly throughout our time at Guapo's! Service like that really makes a difference and definitely makes us want to return. We both ordered the steak and chicken fajitas and they were so good. The meat was tender and flavorful, the vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the portion sizes were huge. We both ended up taking leftovers home and had an even better lunch the next day. I have to mention the tortillas because they were honestly incredible. They were thick, warm, buttery, and pillowy in a way you don't usually get! I could honestly eat them by themselves. I also ordered a virgin passion fruit mojito and it was refreshing and just sweet enough without being too much. For two entrées, drinks, and queso, our total was $76, which is very reasonable for the area considering how much food we got and how good everything was. This place has been on my list for the longest. I love a good authentic Mexican spot. When we pulled up The patio was open. The breeze was coming through. You could see the artwork on the wall in the restaurant from the entrance. It was so bright and clean in there. The staff was so friendly. Our waited was amazing. The chips were hot and fresh. The pico de gallo was the bomb. I orders the chicken burrito bowl. My fiend had the chicken quesadilla. The lemonade was fresh and homemade. They have happy hour with plenty of options. I'll be honest, I wasn't super impressed. The outdoor seating option is great. I ordered a skinny margarita which are $11 on the menu but I was charged $14 (maybe a change but meh not updated). The fajitas were $25 for chicken and steak. The steak was over cooked and there was a small bone in my chicken. I had to ask for the accompaniments (tortillas, sour cream, cheese) and when it came out it was a tiny portion. We had to ask for the smoky salsa. They were out of all Coke products where we went so they brought me a Mexican Coke and it was double the price of the fountain. My friend attempted to order a drink and they were out of simple syrup. I can't say this enough -- this Guapo's location has been better than any other I've been to! The whole place feels so lively and modern, with an upbeat, uplifting vibe that immediately sets the tone for a great night. The service was amazing -- super attentive, everything came out right on time, and the staff made us feel welcome from start to finish. You just know you're in for good food when it's Guapo's. We ordered a bunch of different items and everything was delicious. I had the chicken quesadilla (so good!) and the flan for dessert -- yum. I also tried a passion fruit margarita, and it did not disappoint. From going to Shirlington back in the day, to Fair Lakes, it's great to see they're still thriving and delivering. This place is super- came last Friday at a busy time with reservations, no delay getting seated. Chips came promptly and so did a refill. Had the large margarita- tasted great (not too strong/not too weak). Service was welcoming and positive, attentive to refills. We had chimichangas, tacos, and all the entrees were great, even the leftovers we had to take home. The dessert was sopapillas and cajeta ice cream, but I did not care for the cajeta. This is the third Guapo's location I've been to in the DMV. Hands-down, the best one. The interior is beautifully appointed and very clean. Every staff member we interacted with was an absolute pleasure. The food was incredible. Fresh, hot, and a clear sense of pride in what they're making. I cannot rave enough about their roasted salsa that comes out with their complementary chips. It is so so good. Ours was still steaming as if it just came out of a blender. Carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans alike can find something here. A grande mango frozen margarita with a Tajin rim was the highlight of my visit. Perfect from first sip to last. Stopped by for early dinner Saturday and although they were busy we were seated immediately. We are outside and it was shaded (there were baby birds walking around the patio and minimal bugs but nothing disturbing). The restaurant is huge and the bathrooms were clean. Our server Karen was very nice and patient cause it took me a while to figure out my order. All of the food was flavorful and the complimentary chips were hot. The calamari was great as were both sauces (the rings itself were just a little larger than I'm used to). My fiancé enjoyed his steak and I lovedddd my chimichanga (also was able to do half chicken and shrimp). The mango margarita was delicious and I liked the actual mango pieces that were in the glass (the standard size was $11, slightly more than I'm used to at home). Although this visit was one I was super frantic about, I still have nothing bad to say about their food. We got the happy hour sliders and chicharrón ceviche. I had put my $600 retainers inside a napkin, which was rock hard under a napkin and the barback threw it away. Luckily the man management team and their staff felt bad so they looked through every trash for me. It was bindbinded very well. Thank you to my SP for looking hard as well. Anywho the sliders are cooked perfectly, not over done and still juicy. Most of the time sliders can be extremely dry considering how small in size they are, it's nice that the sliders come with fries too. The chicharrón cevche is very yummy, sometimes when over cooked can be too hard to chew. It came topped with a mango and onion salsa as well as thinly sliced fried yuca which I loved! I absolutely love coming to Guapos! The food, the staff and ambiance are always amazing! They make fresh flour tortillas daily. The fajitas are my favorite. The steak is so tender and juicy! I really liked the grilled octopus. The fish and shrimp in the ceviche were good quality. However, every dish had the same garnish with lots of jicama and tons of red onions - just different sauces and proteins. For me, the red onion flavor overpowered all other flavors. I came to Guapo's three times in one week because it was that good. The food, drinks, and overall vibe had me hooked from the first visit. We tried the tacos and margaritas during happy hour and everything was fantastic. The al pastor tacos were phenomenal and juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The elote and Botana Mexicana are happy hour specials that I seriously wish were on the menu all the time. The lunch special burrito bowls were a solid 10 out of 10. The meat was tender with a perfect char that gave it an amazing smoky flavor. I also tried the cauliflower and was shocked at how well seasoned it was, it honestly tasted like chicken or shrimp. I would absolutely order it again. The drinks were strong and delicious, and the service was friendly and quick. The ambiance and music added to the experience, making each visit feel like a mini getaway. I love it here and definitely prefer this location over the one in Shirlington. I have enjoyed other Guapo's locations and was excited to see they opened one closer to my house. This is a large restaurant with a large bar and plenty of seating so there was no wait even on a busy Sunday afternoon. Food was the usual excellent Guapo's quality. The chips and salsa came with a smoky flavored salsa I especially enjoyed. The fresh guacamole was also tasty and enjoyable. The Masitas de Puerco al Horno (Roasted Pork with Onions, Rice and Beans) was a large portion of lean roasted pork with plenty of onions, white rice, beans, and even a few pieces of plantain. I was hungry but it was still a large enough portion that I took some home and had it for dinner the next day. The spicy margarita is also tasty and worth a try. It has the perfect balance of sweet and spicy and isn't too sweet like some margs. Service was very efficient and friendly and I'll be back here again for some tasty Tex-Mex and maybe a drink. read more

There are two size options - I always lean towards the regular (the large is QUITE large). While spicy is not my jam, my friend loved her spicy margarita and said it was the perfect combo of flavors. For entrees, I decided on an enchiladas while my friend ordered a chicken and vegetable dish. I loved my meal overall, my friend said hers was lacking a bit of flavors/seasoning. I was so exciting to learn that Guapo's had finally opened in the old Chevy's location in Merrifield. The staff are all super friendly and attentive. The decor is fresh and the music is loud (they might want to take it down a notch). We spoke with multiple staff who stopped by to provide service but communication was best relayed via pointing and hand motions. We tried three different items and our reviews were each the same -- it was okay to good. We were kind of disappointed with the rice & beans, the beans are completely processed and almost liquid. I enjoyed the stuff poblanos as well as a pineapple margarita. Right now I think this might be the place to take folks when you want a nicer Tex-mex experience or have a larger party interested in that experience. I do plan to try some fajitas on a future visit, I'm pretty loyal to Silverados fajitas but the bbq fajitas at Guapo's did catch my eye (although I'm not a bell pepper fan which may explain my Silverados preference). We've been huge fans of Guapo's for years, but the Merrifield location is sub par. The service is always awful. Expect a minimum of an hour and a half there. And today they delivered my order missing two of the items to be included with it and it took 20 minutes to get them. Forget water, you will have to just remain thirsty because you have to ask for that 4x at least. We won't be coming back. read more

It's officially patio season and Guapo's has become a constant favorite. We celebrated my three year old's birthday yesterday and the entire team showed up to give her a celebration to remember! My kiddos loved the outdoor fountain, birthday sombrero, kids sundae (complimentary with every kids meal), and watching the tortilla machine flop out fresh and hot tortillas into a basket. A dinner and a show? Call me impressed! Adults loved the margaritas, sizzling hot fajitas, and the camarones tequila (seriously a new favorite, it was so flavorful and succulent). We got the dessert trio to share and the mango cheesecake was hands down the best thing on the menu. Visiting town over the weekend and found Guapo's on my way to the grocery store. Thought I'd give it a try. The service was absolutely amazing. Hard to find restaurants today that pay attention to detail. Everything from our water glasses never being empty to the host asking us if our food was to our satisfaction. The food was very much so your satisfaction. Everything we ordered was hot and delicious and cooked to perfection. Even we were leaving they asked if we'd like some chips and salsa to go.
