We came on a Tuesday at 7 pm, and it was super busy. They seated us at the bar for about an hour, but it wasn't too bad because we could order drinks and small appetizers. The food came pretty quickly, and it was AMAZING. The seasonal special, lamb briyani, was the best briyani I've ever had! We also got amazing butter chicken, chaat, and garlic naan bread. Everything was extraordinary! At night, the place can be pretty loud and a bit dark. If you have small kids, ask to sit in the family area. It was super affordable and I would highly recommend! read more

Fantastic, quality Indian food. Great menu, super large variety. Blackened prawns were great. Place is massive and yet still a wait. That's how good it is. read more

Although the line to get in appeared long once we were in line it moved quickly and we were seated inside in about 20 minutes. They also have a very nice bar and outdoor seating. Our wait staff person was very friendly and helpful explaining a dish and screening us for any food allergies. The menu is unusual and has lots of different dishes unlike what you normally find- the black daal is a signature dish. We took her suggestion and got the popadums with side sauces. They came out quickly and we enjoyed them while waiting for our food. We ordered the butter plain naan, the black daal, the paneer and the chicken. All were superb. The black daal was exceptionally good with a depth of flavors and a richness we had not had before. The naan was hot, freshly baked and perfect with the other dishes. I loved the paneer- four slabs per order with pomegranate and herbs for garnish. We didn't order drinks but they had a lot of unique options. The place is high energy and the interior is cozy. A fun change from the usual! read more

Indian food has never tasted so good. I came here at 3PM as a walk in and immediately got a table. I ordered the House Chaat which was MIND BLOWING. The flavors were delicately balanced and the sweet potatoes perfectly textured. The jackfruit biryani was well made but needed a bit of chutney for added flavor. Can never go wrong with the perfectly crisp and chewy garlic naan as well. Service wise, it was busy even during the midafternoon. The server even forgot to take my order, however made up for it by taking the naan off the bill. The food is amazing and definitely a must try when in London. read more

Visiting Dishoom is a commitment of time and and energy. The line begins forming before they've opened and by the time you arrive it stretches far down the block. A hostess comes out to give you an accurate idea of your wait time - in excess of 90 minutes this night - and someone comes out again regularly, while you wait, to offer up demitasse servings of chai. Excitement builds as the line moves forward. Finally, you're inside, but just to have anticipation build again. They've granted you entry only into the bar area where you can wait, seated and drinking, now with your little electronic device that will buzz when your table is actually ready. Oh, DIshoom, how you kept me in anticipation... but the estimate you gave me was indeed accurate. Word is out on Dishoom, with London locations other than this one and word is also out that you must - MUST - order the Chicken Ruby. Sure, you can make it at home (The Guardian published several recipes for Dishoom's top dishes) but then you'd mis the excitement that is Dishoom. It's been said that I like a buzzy restaurant, a place that is busy and feels like I've landed in the center of things; A hive of an atmosphere if you will. Dishoom is loud enough that I could barely hear my server, packed with birthday celebrants overly crammed into tables, cocktail glasses being clinked in toasts by those already pre-lubricated from their wait time in the bar. Dishoom is the definition of "buzzy". I ordered from the large menu taking many of my server's suggestions and was only even mildly disappointed by one item I'd chosen myself, that failed to deliver on taste. This affected my overall experience at Dishoom not at all. There's a reason people line up to get inside and there's a reason they're loud and happy and in a celebratory mood when they finally land a table. The food, the energy, the space... I'm not the first to say it, but Dishoom is a winner. read more

When fancy a proper curry and authentic Indian Nosh dishoom is your place. Situated in an Art Deco diner off the Kensington high street this spot delivers a great meal and experience. Service is top notch. People viewing also ideal but the food the food is what you come for. The biryanis are as authentic as they come with the presentation and flavors and broth to add as you like. Perfect spice and washed down with a beer is amazing. Garlic naan as expected. The masala prawns were a perfect flavorful appetizer. Lamb samosas tender. Flavorful and great starter. Service is impeccable and they even comps some beers for us to try that were excellent. Dishoom dishes out the good stuff and is highly recommended after a shopping day in the high street read more

They don't take reservations at dinner time, expect for large parties. They have a walk up system to put your name in and even on a weeknight there will be a wait! Be patient, wait at the bar, and try some of their delicious cocktails! The India gimlet and colaba colada were both great! I got the chicken tikka which was so flavorful and cooked to perfection with some char and the fattier pieces would melt in your mouth. I also got garlic naan which was delicious. A trio of chutneys served with the meal was also good and the onion chutney had a kick! read more

Friendly staff, moody ambiance, very flavorful food and not too spicy. The house black daal was the best we've ever had, so buttery and rich. Family style is the way to go here so you can try a little of everything, plus the plates are small. read more

Beautiful venue with comfortable seating. Staff was super kind and had great recommendations for us regarding dish selection and how spicy they were compared to other dishes. Amazing sides! -Cheese Naan dipped in the Sauce from Ruby chicken! Very little spice when dipped. - Chilli Butter Bhutta (cooked corn on cob) was amazingly flavorful and well balanced ! Slight spice. - Gunpowder potatoes were very flavorful but not overpowered by the spices. Not very spicy. Mains -Ruby Chicken was a big hit ! Recommend getting a side of rice as it isn't included. If you order the special Briryani you can use some rice from it for the dish. Not very spicy sauce. - Special Briryani was very presentable and also had tender soft meat; sauce is on the spicy side ! 10/10 some of the best food I've ever tried ! Will come back anytime I'm back in London! read more

Last night in London and I couldn't leave without having Indian food. We sought out this location for a late dinner and arrived without a reservation. We decided to wait for a table in the lounge and order a few glasses of wine while we did. This location is very classy with art deco features and a look of old Bombay style. We were seated at a larger table to accommodate our group, service was quick all night which was great because we were hungry. We ordered family style, sharing the following plates: *Few orders of veggie samosas, very good with their trio of sauces which we enjoyed with other meals. *Many orders of the Garlic Naan, which seems to disappear as soon as it made it to the table. *Murgh Malai - for the kids as it was not spicy, it's a chicken dish *Dishoom Chicken Tikka - very good and a little spicy *Macchi Tikka - a very good fish dish *Jackfruit Biryani - everyone was convinced this was mistaken and was chicken instead. *Chef Kensington Special, the Nalli Nihary Biryani - a baked pastry topped lamb shank special, very savory and large portion to share. Everything was great, we ordered a lot of food and had a little leftover - but we were so happily full after eating at Dishoom. Very classy place with great dishes that pleased the whole group. read more

Great vibe and service. The food was pretty good, but to me the music and the decor were the star of the show!

Omg the food was delicious!!!!! So glad our host recommended Dishoom to me - has it bookmarked on yelp and didn't know if I'd give it a try. There are a total of 5 locations around London so you should have absolutely no problem finding one near you. Derry street location is right next to H&M and a few blocks from Harrods. Def gives me a 1920s speakeasy vibe . Highly recommend: 1. House black daal - the restaurants house fave. smothered lentils stewing for 24 hours. Definitely smoky and subtle flavors . Honestly I was craving Mexican and red beans and rice and it kind of filled that craving I was having 2. Veggie samosa - ridiculous flavor. Slightly better than the lamb samosa . Try the dipping sauces : mint and chutney were my favorites 3. Garlic naan- not too feel icky, very light . Comes in 2 and soaked up the daal nicely 4. Baileys chai - the dessert I was looking for ! I also hear the okra fries are really good read more

After a long day of walking around London, I ordered dinner to my hotel room. I ordered the lamb curry from Dishroom as well as the vegetable samosas. The samosas came with a lovely dipping sauce which was bright and flavorful. The lamb curry was succulent and fragrant. The curry came with basmati rice and the portions were large for one person. I finished about half before feeling stuffed. The meal was a delicious treat and I would come back again. read more

Service is a little slow, but drinks are great and food is wonderful. Highly recommended.

With so many raving reviews, immense popularity, and difficulty getting in, I knew we had to try a Dishoom and picked this location. For a small group, the best idea is to have a reservation before 6 pm, but we still stuck to the possibly most crowded dinner time of 19:30. The check in process was very quick and we were directed to the bar, only to realize there is actually a first-come-first-serve seating area for drinks and snacks! Plus you have a buzzer for when your table is ready. It was less than 1 hour (may be more like 40ish minutes) and not painful of a wait at all. The service was incredibly friendly, giving tons of good recommendations on what not to miss, like their signature dal and fried okra, how much to order, like pick a naan, a lighter sauce, etc. Overall, Londoners are MUCH luckier than we are with any Indian spot being better than our fanciest. Dishoom did not disappoint me, and I'd certainly be back. read more

Food: A- Service: A Ambiance: C+ (on the loud side) Trendy, modern Indian cuisine. Portions are on the small side so we had to order a lot. Be prepared. We ordered lamb samosa, shrimp koliwada, keema pau, chicken ruby, seek kabab, chicken berry Britannia (biriyani), garlic naan and roomali Roti. All of the items were tasty but unfortunately the naan had a bleachy taste. I probably would not return since I felt the place was a little gimmicky with their concept and definitely preying on tourists. read more

Good food but SOOOO loud! Service was good until the end when we tried to pay. No American Express even via Apple pay.

Everything was perfect and stylish. From the decor through to every dish. One was better than the next. Do not miss the experience.

My favorite spot for a classy Bombay experience in the city. There's usually a line and a wait for 30min to an hour yet it's well worth it. Yung from Czech Republic was our server and service was well worth the 12.5% optional service fee. The Rose Cardamom Lassi and impressive cocktail list including the mock tails never disappoint while waiting in the bar. The Jazz trio that was playing upstairs into the air above was the perfect complement to the ambience in this classy yet casual setting. I highly recommend this location! read more

Their menu and food tasted awesome. It was truly modern Indian cuisine. Liked the ambience and vibe of the restaurant. We had reservation which avoided long wait time. Jackfruit biryani was one of the best I had in a long time. Service was quick, even when all tables were full. Enjoyed an outstanding dinner with work colleagues at Dishoom in Kensington. Large, busy, lively atmosphere even on a Thursday night. As there were five of us, we waited about 30 minutes as they don't accept reservations for parties less than six people. The wait was more than worth it - drinks and food was excellent, service was great, and there was even a live jazz trio on the upstairs balcony, raining down upbeat tunes upon the dining room. Highly recommend- be prepared for a wait if you have a smaller party size. read more

We came here for a late dinner on a Saturday night. It took us about twenty minutes to get a table, and that wasn't bad at all, since we spent that time enjoying drinks at the bar. Once seated, we got a full view of this Indian restaurant that looks more like a modern day, trendy version of a 50s diner, with art deco lighting and vinyl booths. With such a long list of drinks, it was hard to choose. They were all very good and quite reasonably priced. 8.50£ Pila House Sling - pineapple and reserve bourbon with orange and lemon sharbat foam: I would have imagined this with rum, but the sweet, slightly smokey flavor with foam was very good. 8.50£ Rudy Cotton - blood orange, prestige white rum, lime juice and lemon bitters shaken hard: a tasty, citrus-y cocktail right up my alley 8.50£ Chandra Bose Sour - Indian and Japanese whiskies, very dry, with dashes of plum bitters and egg-white foam: I don't think I've ver had Indian whiskey, and I'm not sure I could taste the distinction in this cocktail, since there were quite a few flavors in here. 4.50£ Pau Bhaji- a bowl of mashed vegetables with hot buttered, home-made bun, Chowpatty Beach style: Good! There was plenty of the mashed mixture with tomato, onion, lime, tamarind and made for a nice little sandwich. The buttery little buns tasted like those sweet Hawaiian rolls. 4.50£ Okra Fries: Good! I've always liked fried okra. These breaded, fried, and spiced okra was very tasty, and soft inside. 3.20£ Garlic Naan w/ minced garlic and coriander sprinkle: Good! The warm and soft naan had chunks of garlic spread throughout and does a great job of soaking up sauce. 8.20£ Paneer Tikka - marinated cheese then gently charred with red and green capsicums: Good! Paneer always has more of a meaty texture than a cheesy one. Even so I was impressed by our ability to polish off the cubes of grilled cheese. 2.90£ Roomali Roti - thin bread, thrown, stretched and griddled: Ok! The roti was actually thicker than I anticipated, and had more of a lavash texture. 10.50£ Chicken Ruby - tender chicken in a rich silky 'makhani' sauce, Great! The creamy red sauce went well with the roti and the naan. The little bites of chicken were very good, but I would have liked a larger portion. My favorites of the bunch were the chicken ruby and the fried okra. With so many items on the menu, I'd definitely like to return to try other menu items, including the biryani or the daal. The prices are quite agreeable, but they do add up fast. read more

We were seated in the lounge style tables. While this was a bit too much space for two people, this style seating would be so fun for a group of 5 or more. Obsessed! The food was delicious! The device was top tier... everyone was so warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was cute! Def one of my favorite spots in London for delicious Indian food with a fun dining experience. The rice pudding dessert was the best I've ever had (nice and creamy with flavors of coconut, plus a crispy almost crème brûlée like crust and a composite on top.... Wow) the Chai tea was great (and you get free refills) and the lamb was the best I've ever eaten (a bit spicy). And the Samosa Chat appetizer was so yummy and flavorful read more

Holy hell. Hands down, Dishoom is THE best Indian food I have ever had in my life. I don't know what they hell they're doing, but they should keep doing it and expand to the US. We were smart enough to make a reservation for our party of 5 and were seated immediately upon arrival. The restaurant is gorgeous with a super warm ambiance. Since my Indian co-worker had dined here before, we gave him free rein to order and he knocked it out of the park. Every dish was exploding with flavor and there were unique items we definitely don't ever see in the states. I can't recommend this place enough. Definitely come here if you love Indian food and want to try new flavor profiles. The more people you bring, the more you can order! read more

After trying the Covent Garden location twice without luck, was in Kensington and decided to check out this location of Dishoom. Was seated immediately. Server was very attentive and gave great recommendations. I got the lamb chop, grilled chicken tikka, naan, and the highly recommended black dal. The lamb chop was incredibly juicy, tender, and packed with spices. The grilled chicken tikka was also pretty good, spicy and juicy. I've never had anything like the black dal before: creamy, rich, hearty. My favorites were the lamb chop and the dal for sure. Also absolutely loved the decor and little touches everywhere-- from the dining room even to the bathroom. I only wish it wasn't so expensive, but definitely would recommend. read more

Remarkably, the hostess offered everyone waiting a small glass of chai tea or liqueur. The dishes were a fantastic combination of tasty and traditional. If you've only had neighborhood Indian these dishes will blow your mind.
