3 of us had Dishoom last night, Did not disappoint. Flavors were amazing ! The red ruby chicken is so good. All the food we had was delightful. I've more down home authentic but this was still right up there. If you love Indian food you will like dishoom.
This is our second time at Dishoom, first time we went for breakfast and this time was dinner. Can hands down say it was the most authentic food I've had since India. Food: extremely flavorful and delicious. The spice levels did not disappoint. I wish I could have tried everything on the menu. Cocktails: okay, would be more fun if they were more unique. Ambiance: this place was packed even when we had our reservation at 21:30. Would definitely recommend a reservation, not sure how long the wait would have been.
This is a chain but the provide good food and equally good service! Reservations are tough because they are always booked and busy! How ever if you are a smaller party and dont mind sitting in their bar area you can get a seat without a reservation. I ordered the chicken tikka with rice and some samosas as an appetizer. Now they weren't my favorite samosas I've ever had. But they were good and came with 3 different sauces. The chicken tikka awesome very flavorful and tasty! It also came out quickly! This place is a must visit if you are ever in the UK.
I ate here solo, just to soak it all in... the aroma of spices, the buzzing energy of families and friends around me, the feeling of being fully present in the room. I ordered the lamb chops and paired them with the chicken biryani, and honestly... chef's kiss. The lamb chops were crispy on the outside, juicy inside, perfectly balanced with a tangy kick. You can taste the care in the marinade and the grill. Two generous chops, finished with a Kashmiri chilli sauce that really delivers. The chicken berry biryani was just as good (fragrant rice, tender chicken, and little pops of sweetness from the cranberries that worked beautifully!). I also had a mango fennel lassi, which was refreshing and light, and a perfect complement to the meal. To end, I took a chance on the chocolate pudding with chili. I was skeptical, but it completely won me over: warm, rich, and the texture was... mMmm so very seductively smooth. It was nothing short of perfection. And not surprisingly, the entire staff were amazing throughout--super kind, super attentive, and very on point about checking in just enough without hovering. I've been to other Dishoom locations, but this one really stands out to me personally. Not too busy, still glam, and just a really lovely place to spend time. A standout meal and experience from start to finish!
Delicious! The menu has a nice amount of items to choose from with a fun twist on some traditional names. I ordered garlic naan, chicken chili, black daal! Everything tasted very well made and nicely spiced. My only complaint is the naan was a bit burnt. This order was for carry out and was made fresh! I'd definitely order the black daal again. Can't speak to the service because I did not dine in. The restaurant itself was lovely and felt very inviting.
THE HYPE IS REAL. With one night left in London and zero Indian food in my system, I had to finally answer the question every Brit kept asking me: "Have you been to Dishoom yet?" On a random Thursday, the wait was an hour but no complaints on my end. My friend and I grabbed seats at the bar and ordered Tamarind Mezcalitas. Did I expect to find an actually great mezcal cocktail in London? Absolutely not. Am I thrilled it happened at an Indian restaurant? Absolutely yes. The vibe aims to evoke 1960s Bombay Iranian cafés. I can't speak to that firsthand, but the closest comparison I can offer is: Bombay meets Bourbon Street. A 1920s Indian speakeasy. Live jazz floated down from the balcony, filling the room with warmth and energy. After conferring with our server, we landed on a few dishes to share: Lamb Chops: Exquisite. Perfectly cooked with a spiced crust and plenty of meat. Makhmali Paneer: A savory marshmallow in the best way possible; charred outside, cloud-soft inside. It genuinely redefined what is possible with paneer for me. Chicken Ruby: Dishoom's take on butter chicken--and hands down the best version I've ever had. I didn't know butter chicken could taste like this. Chocolate Chai: Think Mexican hot chocolate, but less sweet and perfect with food. I didn't plan on ordering one... and ended up having two. I don't know when I'll be back in London, but I do know that when Dishoom opens in NYC, getting a seat will be nearly impossible. And deservedly so.
VEGAN REVIEW Absolutely believe the hype! Amazing vegan English breakfast with an Indian/Iranian cafe twist. Great unlimited oat milk chai. Lovely ambiance. Servers work as a team, you won't be neglected even when it's really busy. Went to multiple locations & it was consistently delicious!
This place was super yummy! The line went outside for quite some time as it's a super popular place but they managed to seat 2 of us at a 6 people table for an hour or so before another group comes in so I was extremely grateful! We only waited around 20 minutes which was great on their end because they are super great and attentive with seating walk ins. Super chic and glamorous I felt like I transported into luxury. We ordered a few things from the fish appetizer (amritsari), side of greens, the special biryani and the ruby chicken curry! I also had a very yummy old fashioned. I thought the amritsari was really yummy but it gave my friend the runs for the bathroom cause it's quite spicy. The side of greens were definitely needed as a long day of London travel didn't really consist of much greens. The chef special biryani wow'd us in term of how large it was I definitely would say bring an entire family to share as it was quite salty and filled with carbs so I would say I had regrets of ordering side of rice. The ruby chicken curry was my favorite and it definitely tasted amazing with that side of rice. I can't wait to come back again and try other things on the menu!
I was seriously craving Indian food and my husband found Dishoom. We were too late for a reservation, so we decided to try our luck walking in and wow, the line was out the door! But don't worry they've got a system down. You get a buzzer and can wait at the bar, where we grabbed drinks and apps while vibing in the dim, vintage, speakeasy-style interior. The wait was about 25 minutes, which flew by with the lively atmosphere. When we sat down, we ordered: * Lamb Shank Biryani * Chicken Ruby * House Black Daal * Cheese Naan The biryani came with a flaky roti crust, and our waitress even offered to peel it back for my video . The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and every bite had meat no skimping here! The black daal was creamy, savory perfection, and paired well with everything on the table. And the Chicken Ruby? A rich, flavorful curry that had my husband talking about taking a bowl of the sauce home. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. We'll definitely be back next time we are in London. Bonus: for every meal ordered, Dishoom donates a meal to a child in need. Love when great food supports a great cause
We knew we wanted to eat here when we were in London, so fortunately we reserved. We got our table right away even though there was a queue. The service was fantastic which is a feat itself when you think of how busy it is. A well oiled machine. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the Ruby Chicken, Grilled Greens and Tandoori Chaat. All were amazing. We loved our experience here. Would come again and highly recommend
Went here based on YouTube travel videos. Also, made a reservation ahead of time because of its popularity. If you like spicy food, this is the place for you. We've had spicy food in Southern California, but in comparison to how it was here, what we had before was toned down. There's no holding back at this restaurant. I wondered why the portions seemed small and just contributed it to European culture until I realized the food is so spicy that we could only eat so much in one sitting. The servers were friendly enough, although I wish they had left the pitcher of water on our table instead of us waiting for them to refill our cups. Better yet, milk might have been better. As for the restaurant itself, it's a mix of retro and modern. The bathrooms were really retro, like the toilets had the pull chain and the sink had the 2 different faucets for hot and cold. It's a nice restaurant, just know that eating the food here is like being on an episode of "Hot Ones".
A must-visit when in London. Loved the flavorful dishes, attentive service and lively atmosphere on my first visit to London at Dishoom Carnaby, and recently visited again with my entire family (ages 4 months to 67 years old) to Dishoom Kensington and everyone enjoyed it just as much.
Was able to make a reservation here earlier in the day for dinner. Dishoom is one of the most popular Indian restaurants in London. This one is located in Kensington. First off, the staff are so genuinely friendly and helpful. We arrived early and were quickly seated. For our party of 3, we ordered the Nalli Nihari Biryani: a rice, lamb, and lots of spices covered by a puff pastry. My description doesn't do this dish justice as it was so flavorful. I don't like lamb, as it usually has some gamey taste. There was none of that here. It was tender and so flavorful. We also ordered Tandoori Chaat, which had pineapple and sweet potatos. So many flavors and it all went well together. The chicken tikka was good and came out as expected. The chicken ruby was fantastic, and had so much flavor, with just a bit of spicy kick. We thought there was going to be so much leftover, but between the three of us, we almost polished off everything. This easily was the best Indian food that I have had.

HOLY MOLY I'm still dreaming of this meal. Yes, it's a chain, and yes, there's a lot of hype around it. It absolutely lived up!! We got here at 6pm, knowing it would be crowded (they don't take reservations for parties after 5:45 that are under 6 people), and we were immediately able to sit and wait in the bar area. Cocktails were AMAZING. Note that the bar area filled by ~6:15 and the line was out the door. We were seated about 30 minutes later. The ruby chicken and house chaat were some of the best experiences of my life. Service was so attentive, overall, Dishoom is totally worth it!!! read more

Came here for a late breakfast last Saturday at 10:45 am. We were hoping to order from the lunch menu as well but it was not available until noon. Note: this may be the most popular place in London (all locations) and reservations are likely needed before 5pm and I would expect a wait after 5. The Covent Garden location has by far more Yelp reviews than any other place in London, so that is why we made sure to get a reservation in advance. We ordered coffee, a Mango Lassi, Vegan Bombay platter, and Date & Banana Porridge. We were hoping to save room for lunch but the waiter accidentally gave us House Granola which filled us up. The food was pretty delicious as were the drinks and it was my wife's first time eating Indian breakfast. It may not have been our best meal in London but it was still a very good one. We also appreciate how they have a lift for those with mobility issues. If we'd go back to London, we will try it here or another Dishoom location for lunch or dinner. read more

We ordered the house chai and colaba colada to drink. The waitress was very helpful in the suggestions she made for our dinner. We ordered the vegetable samosas and they were delicious with all 3 sauces that were given. It was a great way to start dinner. We ordered the plain naan, steamed basmati rice, murgh malai, and spicy lamb chops. It is served to share. We split it between us and we were just the right amount of full. The Murgh malai was not spicy which is what I wanted. The spicy lamb chops are medium spice that hits you afterwards. We also ordered mango and malai kulfi. It was so light and refreshing. It was a great way to end our dinner. Our waitress was fantastic. She made splendid recommendations and continued to be helpful. We appreciated her guidance. read more

Waltzing in to get our name on the waitlist (no dinner reservations here folks), you will be emersed in Art Deco and old fashioned Bombay vibes with mouthwatering aromas. We arrived close to 7 pm, knowing we should anticipate a hefty wait based on other reviews. The live jazz music was pumping and after a 15 min wait, we were escorted upstairs to their bar area where we snagged a seat to enjoy a libation or two, an Old Fashioned for him and Colaba Colada for me. We sat back and enjoyed the atmosphere while we sipped on our excellently crafted drinks and perused the menu. Roughly 40 mins later, we were ushered away from the bar to our table. Finally, it was time for the main event, a throwdown of sorts. I had a light breakfast and skipped lunch and was basically fasting for this exact moment (#ZeroRegrets). Let's get this party started. We ordered: Okra Fries - crispy, delicious and basically everything you'd want in an Okra fry Garlic Naan- A chewy, garlicky Indian flatbread is perfectly paired with any dish your order. One order is two flatbreads. But, who are you kidding? Save yourself some time and grab your self 2 orders and get to dipping that into your Chicken Ruby Sauce and Black Daal. Their House Specialty, Chicken Ruby - This is by far the most delicious curry I've ever tasted. It was buttery, spicy goodness in a rich tomato curry with a depth of flavor that is complex and delectable. Grilled Masala Shrimp - This was good but too simple for this meal. In all fairness, the paneer pineapple tikka, black dala, garlic naan and ruby chicken stole the show. So, after having that, I wanted more of that and less of this. Paneer Pineapple Tikka - The Paneer was a style of Indian cottage cheese that was cubed and spiced served on skewers with pineapple. Their House Specialty, Black Daal - Flavorful and decadent, this creamy daal was perfectly made and wonderful to dip for our garlic naan. Dishoom Chocolate Pudding with spicy ice cream- Think of this as lava cake with chili enhanced vanilla ice cream Basmati Kheer Pudding - Meh, I would totally pass on this next time and go for two orders of the chocolate dessert above. A visit to this restaurant will leave with a memorable meal that instantly have you dreaming of your return. Our amazing dinner was worth every minute we waited (and I am kicking myself for not returning here to try out their highly recommended breakfast). Expect a line if you arrive anytime after 6 pm. Chalk this up to a Must visit, as the stellar reviews are spot on! read more

Some local friends took my mom and I here for lunch on our recent visit to London. It had a great laid back vibe, lots of good food, great decor. Its decorated in an art decor/old diner style. We had a variety of food and everything was great. I started with the warm chai tea. It had a nice spice to it and the refilled it for free. I had the lamb kabobs. These were really tasty but a bit spicy so be warned. Naan bread on the side. That was really good. Nice and buttery. Mom had the grilled shrimp. They were in the shell which is a pain but she really liked their flavor. They had a lot of other really great looking Indian food. Definitely would be a regular spot if I lived in London. read more

Lovely staff, each bending over backwards to make your experience a lovely one. If you can get over the initial shock of the long wait you will be taken care of in the most pleasant way from the hostesses, bartenders, to all the waitstaff. Lovely ambiance and great tasting, flavorful dishes with Dishoom twist. Tried many dishes and I can honestly say none disappointed, everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. I had the chocolate chai after a long wait and it was so good I asked for a recipe because I don't live in London. They were also accommodating to young guests who couldn't handle food that's too spicy. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Absolutely authentic and amazing Indian food. The Keema pao is on the spicier side but doesn't get any better than this. The Kolawadi prawns also had a kick to them but were yummy. The chaat dish fell a bit short and could have been better and was filled with too many tasteless potatoes. Place is very crowded and buzzing with life so hard to get seated in rush hour. read more

I love it when all cylinders work. Service, delicious food, vibe, it's all here in this place. Saw this in YouTube and put it on my list to try while in London and I'm glad we saved the best for last. I figured my last dinner in London would be good Indian food and I almost gave up as I couldn't get a reservation through their site. But, they accept walk-ins and that's what we did. We had drinks at the bar and they came and got us to take us to our table. Samuel/Savi was our excellent host. He was considerate, patient and knowledgeable on his recommendations. We had a small salad, Kensington special which is a lamb shank biryani encased in a pie crust, this is a really good dish to share, also ordered black daal which cooked for 24 hrs, so flavors were deeply extracted. Side of garlic naan. One of their managers came and asked how was our meal and I said I'm a whimp with spicy food and she went and got me a roti, which is like a yogurt cucumber to relieve spicy level and I have to say I enjoyed my meal even more. We ordered dessert recommended by Savi and chocolate chai to round out our experience. It's the best experience and my best Indian food meal ever. So happy with my my last dinner in London read more

The food is beyond excellent. I have been to 3 different locations (Covet Garden, Kensington and SoHo) all in the same week and found the food to be delicious and consistent. We have at-least tried 1/2 the menu. The ambiance is lively and amazing at Kensington and SoHo and service is beyond good. If I could rate this food chain higher than a 5, I would. read more

Tough to get in since they don't take reservations. Small but decent bar area for a cocktail while waiting for a table to open. Smallish but sufficient number if menu choices and all we had were excellent. Food comes quickly. Vibrant atmosphere. A little hard to hear conversation but i suspect that's not the crowds primary objective. read more
WOW! That is all I got to say! The hype for this place completely lives up to it! From the time you walk into the door and until you leave I feel like I am in an upscale restaurant in India. The interior designing is spot on and the culture inside the restaurant is wonderful! My family ordered a pau bhaji, and because it was so good, we HAD to order TWO more! The vegetable samosas were well filled and very light. We also ordered the mattar paneer with garlic naan which was very flavorful! Drinks, I got the bollybellini which was nice and fruity. The rose & cardamom and mango & fennel lassis were both delicious but don't expect the cardamom and fennel to be incorporated into the lassi it is more as a garnish to the drink. The service was very accommodating and pleasant. I wish we had more time in London to enjoy another meal! read more
This was highly praised before coming to London, so I was excited to try. We got lamb chops, chicken ruby, "prawn" masala, garlic nann, and a side of basmati rice. Overall, everything was delicious EXCEPT the masala "prawn". It was flavorless and just tasted like charred shrimp. The "prawns" they claimed were dinky little shrimps, so that was false advertisement. We could have done without this dish, but thank goodness for those delicious sauces we used to dip the shrimp in. Service was good. No reservations for groups under 6, so we came early and waited 45 mins and enjoyed drinks at the bar. Very crowded restaurant and lots of small right places, so hardly lots of room to walk without bumping into someone or a chair or two. read more

Great customer service, great atmosphere, and staffs were wonderful. Ordered a few dishes. Chef's special nalli nihari biryani and chili chicken were the best. Chicken rubi felt overwhelmed with tomato sauce, and mango lassi lacked mango. read more
Dishoom is just as good as the last time Hubby and I visited London. Show up knowing that there will be an hour wait, but the food reward is well worth it. We love the bottomless chai tea, and our fantastic server, Rochelle, kept the chai tea flowing for us. Rochelle is a rock star! All the the food is wonderful from the Chicken Ruby, grilled Chicken Tikka, Roti Rolls, Veg Samosa, Broccoli Salad, Butter Corn, Garlic Naan, Kulfi, and Gulkhand Mess. The only criticism is the ladies at the reception desk were not friendly or helpful. The Kensington location was out of cookbooks and the two ladies refused to help us source the cookbook at another location. They can benefit from some customer service training. read more
Get the featured gimlet. Then get another. So amazing! We loved the sweet potato house chaat starter - best thing we ate all night, and the chicken Ruby is another must-order. Skip the house black daal. I do wish their naan was a bit less dry but everything was so tasty! read more

If you're going to the Kensington Palace, this trendy and tasty restaurant is relatively close within walking distance. The atmosphere/theme seems to be 1920's which I thought was cute. We came around 5pm and were quickly seated. However, around 6pm, it started to get quickly packed. Our waitress suggested ordering the masala prawns and ruby chicken. In addition to ordering those suggestions, we ordered the rice and roti. They also gave us three sauces. I was familiar with the chutney and tamarind sauce, but not the red sauce they gave us. The red sauce was my favorite and also had a good kick to it. Personally, I really liked the prawns and suggest ordering that. The ruby chicken is probably their most popular dish, but it tasted really similar to a chicken tikka marsala. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it wasn't what I thought it would be. It is also on the smaller size of portions. It was majority sauce and three pieces of chicken. Though that wasn't my favorite, I would still come back for the prawns. read more

Wow!! This was the best meal we had during our visit to London in May. We had an early reservation and I was kind of nervous do to the fact that some people in our group are very picky eaters. Everyone loved the food! The biggest hit was the Okra Fries. We order four bowls kind of excessive, but necessary). The Chicken Ruby was outstanding as well! Service was great and our waitress was very patient with us as a lot of the group had never really had food derived from Bombay. I will definitely recommend to anyone that is going to be visiting London in the future. read more

Amazing Indian food! The staff was super nice and attentive and I loved everything I ordered. The veggie samosas, chicken ruby and tikka masala shrimp were excellent. The chicken ruby doesn't come with rice so don't forget to ask for some on the side (and you will have to pay a few pounds). I can't wait to come back! read more
Totally worth the hype and wait... we had to wait for 45 minutes before we got seated with 2 famished kids, walking goals of 25000 steps achieved and last day in London. It was now or never !! Karen was very sweet to get us table and calm my nerves down with a glass of Pinot noir and hubby got a kingfisher. We got some dry snacks with our drinks and then the order of chill chicken, fried okra, lamb samosas garlic naan, chicken ruby, lamb biryani and prawn and ended with the best masala chai to end my meal. Really glad we made it and hopefully they accept reservations in the future and open a branch in Chicago?? read more
Guaranteed to convert the pickiest eaters into Indian food lovers, Dishoom is a fantastic restaurant that presents authentic Indian and Irani flavor in a warm, modern setting. The menu concept favors shared plates, which gave us the opportunity to try lots of different options. We loved the Kensington Special biryani, which had richly flavored lamb and curry with rice all encased in a pastry crust. My dad complains about anything that isn't Cantonese, so for him to exclaim how good it was, well, that's how I know it was something special. I also really enjoyed the prawn koliwada with chutney, which had a fair amount of kick but wasn't aggressively spicy. I only wish the samosa and naan sides came with more pieces! Although I didn't look too long at it, the sober/low alcohol drink menu is pretty cool and seemed fairly extensive compared to the norm. I ended up with a rose cardamom lassi, a perfect complement to the rich, spicy dishes. Had a great meal with great service, and just fell in love with the vibe of the place. Of all the restaurants I tried in London, this is the one I look forward to revisiting the most. read more
