The 800 531-5000 number & several other numbers suggested disconnect the call after confirming phone number. Went thru new service. They don't want anything to do with helping after sale. Finally reached agent after going to other departments. 4 hours later I still don't have answer to my issue. Each person I spoke with was obviously referencing a manual and did not know what they were doing. Was told several different solutions- none of which worked. Then spent 1 hour on phone with agent to help me use the microphone function on the remote. First person obviously reading manual. Couldn't help me. Next, supervisor had me reboot this, and try that. Only to discover the customer has to sign into their Google account, effectively making my TV into a computer to use the mic feature. I don't want Google involved with my TV. Didn't have to do this with previous service with Cox. I am SO MAD I switched from Cox. No amount of savings is worth this frustration. Worst decision I have made in a long time. Be aware if you set up auto payments, cancellation of your service will not stop them from continuing to charge you. They do not tell you when you cancel that you must SEPARATELY cancel auto payments. I was told when I cancelled service after 7 years that there would be no additional charges. When I was charged another month of services, it took a 40 minute phone call before I was able to get some sort of resolution. While the customer service rep was sweet and apologized several times, the bottom line is I'm now having to wait 30 more days for a visa with the amount to be sent to me, not even a refund check. If she wouldn't have escalated the issue, it would have taken 2-3 more billing cycles for the refund to be sent. Had I not called, it would not have ever been refunded. Beware. read more

Disney, which controls all ESPN Channels, FX, and a couple more, has interrupted their service at Directv due to a contract dispute. I have tried to contact Directv's customer service, but they can't even find my account! This happened with a different provider a couple of years ago, and it took 2 months to get resolved. Direct tv is horrible. I had cox and TiVo for many years but when visiting Costco a young salesman for Direct TV convinced us that the service was cheaper and more reliable than our service with cox. To DirecTV, I want to express my disgust with how you treated my elderly mother (80 years old), and indirectly, my father, a war veteran (90 years old) who served on the front lines in Korea and Vietnam. After years of service with DirecTV, a problem with your satellite TV service turned into a nightmare for her when she called to have the issue fixed. Despite a timely payment record, and paying every month for a protection agreement to address any problems with service, she was driven to tears in attempting to resolve the problem. When she asked me to intercede on her behalf, I was appalled by the poor customer service, and the indifference by DirecTV customer service personnel to resolve the problems with her TV service and the overcharges on her account. I cancelled her service with DirecTV, but have spent hours on the phone and online chats to resolve the overcharges on her bill. I am assisting her in disputing an unauthorized charge to her bank account (despite the bill being in dispute) by filing a claim thru her Bank, and sending all relevant documentation to AZ State Attorney General, Consumer Complaints Division. One might think this is an isolated incident, and just a result of miscommunication between a customer and DirecTV. It happens. However, after deciding to cancel my service with DirecTV (after 15 years) because of how my mother was treated, I faced a similar nightmare. When I called DirecTV to cancel my service, I underwent a similar experience. Cancelling my service took 22 minutes due to high pressure attempts to keep my service. Despite having already moved over to new provider, I am still being billed an additional three weeks of service. Yeah, real classy DirecTV. I feel so sorry for those elderly people who have to face a similar experience, and who just give in due to frustration and confusion. There seems to be no problem with pro-rating your monthly bill when you first start your service with DirecTV, but cancelling the service is not pro-rated. Okay, signing up means agreeing to being screwed when you cancel (thanks to our politicians). However, when I cancelled my service, I was told a Shipping box (label) would be sent to me to send my equipment back to DirecTV. After three weeks, I never received any shipping box, and am now facing a new charge on my final bill since they never received the equipment. Despite shipping the equipment back to DirecTV on my own, I'll now have to pay for the non-return fee, and dispute the charges. There is something wrong with DirecTV. And not just them. We have all experienced the predatory practices of corporate America. My advice is to avoid (or disconnect) from those companies who exploit the consumer. I will NEVER recommend DirecTV to anyone. We had been customers for 13 years but when we had to cancel our satellite service because of poor satellite signal in our new home (terrible pixilation that the technician who came to our house told us was the norm for our area and we would just have to live with it) we were hit with a 260.00 early termination fee. During our move and subsequent set-up we were told we had to upgrade our receiver because the one we had was too old. Apparently this automatically put us into a new 2 year contract for the box, not the service. The communication from the "loyalty" care team is abysmal. The only loyalty they want is current and future. Past loyalty means nothing. I am even thinking of stopping my ATT phone service because of their association with Directv. I requested the lowest priced subscription which I had in Chandler prior to my move. The first bill was about $20 a month more than my last accnt. After speaking to the customer service rep who was very helpful, she transferred me to somewhere in Tennessee. Spoke with Cody there. After 1 hr 40 minutes, I found out the original set- up call upgraded the service I requested. It took over 1 1/2 hrs for their technician to change my order to what I wanted and to change the fees to the service I requested. Never did get the lowest fee because" he couldn't figure it out". I'm happy to discover that I'm not alone! DirecTV was great until they were bought by AT&T. The customer service became horrible almost overnight. We have had endless issues with being charged for things that were cancelled. We cancelled the Sunday Ticket last year and lo and behold, it was not cancelled! We were billed this year. Same thing with premium channels. If you have to have someone come to your place to install a box or fix a problem, they spend the entire time trying to get you to switch your phone service to AT&T! We had AT&T long distance years ago and had nothing but problems with them. We cringed when they took over DirecTV. We're the type of people that hate changing services, so we've stuck it out. I have had DirectTV for the last 7 years and only kept them because I can always call into customer service and request same or better promotions that they offer to new customers for us established ones. I was also happy to find out that they now offer the wireless Genie but was disappointed that it was never offered to me- my dad told me about it. My move has been an ordeal and DirectTV has never been an issue until today. The tech arrived promptly at 9am (which I'm grateful for) but with the wrong equipment. He never received the updated order to include the Genie. He has been on hold for over 22 minutes to confirm, even though I showed him my confirmation e-mail via their website. He then left to pick up the equipment "around the corner." Definitely, not too happy that the order was not updated on his end and that it will not take more time away from my Sunday morning. Upon his return, the representative finally answered and revealed that there had been 2 work orders for my new address and 2 different technicians to come out!! If I had any other choice (besides comcast because they are equally horrible) I would not be with direct TV. When I first got direct TV every single morning when I went to watch TV I would have no signal on perfectly sunny days. This happened daily so I called to get therm to send someone out to fix it. However because someone owns the rights to the apartment complex I live in Direct TV couldn't do anything. They gave me a number to call but when I called the number they claimed they were "sales only" and couldn't fix my problem, I would have to call direct TV. So I call them back and guess what!? They still couldn't do anything. I finally got ahold of someone though who said he would send out a technician. But after waiting all morning for the guy to show up, he gets here and tells me he doesn't have the right tools and he cannot do anything for me. So at this point I'm paying for TV that doesn't have signal so I'm pissed and just want to cancel. BUT surprise, surprise, both phone numbers I was given to call could not cancel my service because they are "sales only" and the actual direct TV people couldn't cancel it because of someone owning the rights to our complex I have to cancel it through them. So at this point I can't cancel either. Luckily, not sure what happened, but, my single came back and I am not able to watch TV. However I wanted to upgrade to a better system so that I can record shows. But, you guessed it! NO ONE could help me again.... Direct TV SERIOUSLY needs to get better communication between them and their "third party providers" or whoever they are that owns the rights to these complexes because I have no choice living here in which TV provider I use so the least they can do is provide good customer service! read more

When I switched to Direct TV they promised a $100. VISA card. I wasn't planning on retiring, based on the strength of a $100. card. It's the fact it was promised, but not delivered. They claim it was mailed on June 27th and to allow up to 4 weeks for delivery. I could walk it to Arizona from Rhode Island in 4 weeks! I've spoke with them about 5 times. Count on someone with a middle-eastern accent, claiming to be "Mark", or "Ted" or "Brian". I'm going to go out on a limb and say I don't believe that's really their name. I digress... Just spoke with another rep with middle-eastern accent, claiming to be, "John". It has been over a month but he said to give it another 2 weeks. Assuming it still isn't here in another 2 weeks (making it approx. 1 1/2 months, if my math is correct), they will re-mail and the 4 week wait begins, again. read more

Clearly customer service reps are taught a bare minimum. They do not have answers. They can do only one or two simple tasks. If you have anything more complicated than joining or ending service, immediately ask for a supervisor. Even with "notes" on my account, they still have no clue as to what to do. Currently on phone with them and girl tells me my account suspended. 20 minutes in she now tells me my account isn't suspended, it's canceled...because she has no idea what she's doing. I would give a ZERO if I could. After reading the reviews, I can see I'm not alone! Purchased a large Flat Screen TV from Costco. Direct has a representative standing right by the TV's to try to get you to switch to Direct for a GREAT 2 year price! I have always LOVED DISH and their customer service is one of the best, along with Verizon (which I also have). Like many people, I was "sales pitched" into switching primarily to save a little of the almighty dollar. From Day 1, the Customer Service has been the worst I have EVER experienced. Long hold times, repeat same story over and over and over - keep getting transferred to another person, billing issues, etc. Now, as I come up to my 1 year mark in my 2 year contract, I notice, in small print, it says that - in order to keep my special pricing, I need to bundle with another AT&T service or my Direct special pricing will end. This was NEWS TO ME and was NOT sold that way at Costco or I would not have signed up. Not worth all the hassles to be forced to change Cable TV AND Cell Phone services just to save $44/month. So my hubby and I took 1/2 day off work. We got price quotes from Direct Phone Rep. Then went into store to change to that plan. 1 1/2 hours in the store, long wait times, reps at AT&T don't really know what their doing that well either. We finally got a girl who has worked for AT&T for 8 years. She said the plan we were quoted is not accurate and it would really be much, much more expensive than what the phone rep told us. We worked hard to find another, more affordable plan - worse and more expensive than what we are currently paying with Verizon. Then, she realized we were doing this just to keep our special pricing with Direct for 1 more year until our contract was over. She said, I won't switch you YET because I've worked here long enough to know that I will switch you and and then you will find that your Direct bill will go up anyway because they will tell you that you needed to sign up for AT&T Phones within the 1st 30 - 60 days of signing up with Direct. Talk about enraged but grateful this sales person wanted to verify. She got Direct on the phone and we waited and stared at her for 45 minutes while she kept asking to have "written verification" added to our account that if we switched, our pricing would NOT go up. They kept promising her that it would be fine but she wouldn't accept that answer unless it was verified to our account. They finally did more and more research and said she was right, we needed to sign up within 30-60 days for that special pricing so we are locked in Direct, pricing will go up, we have to pay tons of fees to terminate early, and we ALMOST got stuck in AT&T phones as well. Costco said, no matter what, they will make this right for us! I don't know what that means yet. Still trying to work with Direct. Talked to the Direct Sales Rep at Costco and she is continuing to sell the package - saying you don't have to bundle until the 2nd year. Costco needs to stop allowing Direct to sell in their locations as they are a JOKE! False advertising! Costco is such a reputable company and they prize themselves are amazing customer service. Horrible customer service... If I could give zero stars I would. Recently moved from PA to AZ and transferred our service at that time. We've received an extreme amount of misinformation from customer service as it appears no one quite knows what any policy or protocol is. Tried to return old cable boxes to them originally and was told to keep them as we would be transferring services to Arizona and could just send back at that time. Once we moved we were told this was not what we should have done and after my husband spent 3 hours on the phone with them they finally told us to just keep the boxes and once a technician came out they would take the box. Now we're being told from the technician this absolutely cannot be done as we would be held responsible for the boxes. After a long discussion with the technician he finally called his Supervisor who agreed to take the boxes. Why does everyone have a completely different answer for us when discussing this process?!?! We also had a problem with a wireless box as we originally had a technician out two weeks ago, but because we did not have all of our TVs at home he could not set up the second wireless router. We had our $99 fee waived initially as we were having new equipment set up (which that in itself was a disaster as they initially tried to charge us for it when we didn't want it in the first place), and was told when the technician came out again when we had the rest of our TVs we'd have that fee waived again. Then we were told this couldn't be done and we'd be charged $129 for the entire wireless router to which we just told them we'd take a wired one to avoid any extra fees. The VERY NEXT DAY we had the wireless router sent to our house after we spent several hours speaking with customer service about NOT WANTING A WIRELESS ROUTER! Then to make up for the charges we had received for something we didn't want, we were credited $50, which still had us charged $79 for the wireless router we did not want. Overall having to deal with customer service in general with DIRECT TV is absolutely horrible. Nothing gets done, they don't keep any notes and no one knows what you're talking about when you try to call in. They need much better training on their part so everyone is on the same page. If it weren't for the new two year contract that you're obligated to sign, we would be looking for a new service immediately. The unfortunate part is that the service is good and the techs that come out are efficient and knowledgeable which is the only saving grace for this god awful company. My experience with DIRECTV is extremely poor. The service advertised has failed to deliver a decent picture or audio signal throughout my contract. Multiple times I've spent an average of 1 hour or more contacting DIRECTV. They want your business more than they're interested in customer service. My satellite was installed on the northside of my building under a large tree. After several complaints it was discovered by the Directv Tech the dish was on the wrong side and moved to the south where the satellite transmits from. My DVR continually goes black screen ruining a consistent and enjoyable experience. The box was updated and service didn't improve. The last tech told me he did't think another receiver would solve the problem. We agreed to wait and see and I returned from a 3 week vacation and all my recorded programing was blacking out. Directv wants to charge a cancellation fee and I strongly believe when a company fails live up to it's contract they need to do the right thing. So far I'm still waiting. read more

They will happily give me HBO (who cares?) for free for 2 months as a "retention service", and I suppose I can watch that while I am paying them through the nose and not buying anything else. As many others have said, the customer service with DirecTV is terrible. I have had many billing errors from them over the years. When you call DirecTV the hold times are extensive, and after holding, you will be transferred from person to person, having to repeat everything all over again. Charges mysteriously increase over time. I have switched and will not be back to DirecTV. In addition to the billing and customer service problems, the installers did not even clean up after drilling holes in the wall; they just left the drywall dust all over the floor. read more

I called Directv last June for new service. I bought the "bundle" of TV, landline and internet that is supposed to be locked in for 2years. Then I was told that I would have 2 installation appts, one for tv and the other for internet and phone. When the internet-phone guy showed up, he had a Century Link truck. I was confused because I was never told that Century Link would be my internet-phone carrier. The serviceman told me that AT&T does not cover my area in Tucson so they have an agreement with CL to cover it. Well, ok, no problem. I was getting 2 different bills every month. Now after the first year passed, I received a bill from AT&T for $50 more a month. When I called, they said that I had to have internet or wireless with AT&T within the first year to keep my quoted price. I told them I DID HAVE INTERNET, but they said they have nothing to do with Century Link so they will not honor my "bundle" which I thought I signed up for. I was scammed and lied to. After hours and hours of online chats and phone calls, they refused to honor the agreement I signed up for. If I had known my internet and phone would be with Century Link, I NEVER would have bought this "so called" package. Century Link has slow speed in my area and they are charging me for a higher speed which I had to get. CL also said I was locked in a price, but they keep upping the charges saying I had discounts that expired, which I was not aware of. I cannot believe that Directv has the gall to scam a customer like this and they absolutely refuse to honor my "bundle price" for the remainder of the 2yr contract. I will be getting rid of Directv and Century Link next June when my 2yrs are up. They are both crooks. read more

We recently had our service connected at our new home, and were absolutely blown away by the level of service our technician (Rodney L) exemplified. He was friendly, professional, and went above and beyond our expectations. After connecting our service and programming our remotes, he took us through how to use the service, and ensured we didn't have any questions. He left his contact number and told us to call him personally if we ran into any issues. From beginning to end, he was one of the friendliest and warmest people I've ever run into in the service industry, and DirecTV is fortunate to have him as their face out in the field. A customer service told me one price I agree with the price give them my account number to start withdrawing the money. The only time they took the right amount it was the first month after that they took double I did not realize until 3 months later. When I call Direct TV that they told me they were really really sorry but that's what it was a sin that's not what I agree and they said I'm sorry I told him okay I don't want the service anymore because if you guys are not going to be honest then I don't want nothing to do with it. OMG!!! What a disfunctional company!! We setup a new account online and had an install date. When we called to confirm our appointment for Saturday, we were told the appointment was cancelled. We tried to find out why and were unsuccessful. First of all, we couldn't understand ALL FIVE of the different people we spoke to. They all said they couldn't help us and to call (866) 595-0754 for new customers. The recording on that number indicated they were closed and would not open until Monday (today is Friday).
