Att sold out to DIRECTV; this is the worst quality tv provider and it is expensive and a waste of money. They have no servicemen to come to your house and fix broken equipment. They switched us from the broken cable signal to internet signal. The quality of the picture degraded. It is impossible for us to get premium movies on prime. Directv also diverts movies from Prime to charge you more so you do not get the prime channel you are paying for. No on premises service, unnecessary sign-ins to receive prime...we never have experienced such an awful tv provider. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere for quality and value. read more

When I finally did get someone on the phone I was hung up on, perhaps because my question was too frustrating for them. Then another person I called was more helpful but then told me one thing the next agent that she had to transfer me to contradicted. read more

Yikes... So we got Direct TV streaming service mainly to stream the Tennis Channel. Of course right after I gave them good marks for their guide it decided to go nuts! It showed Wimbledon women's semi final in the guide which turned out to be pickle ball instead. On ESPN it showed 'content not available', but that turned out to be mixed doubles semi-finals. Caramba when they go south they really mess it up...and we had been so comfortable with them until this mess. Oh well... read more

HOLYYYYY CRAPPPPP. Pardon my language but my head is still spinning from what just happened. My oh my. Where does one begin My mom insisted on calling DirecTV for my baby to have cable. I was going to call earthlink for Internet. We've been streaming for three weeks with our awful Verizon on our phones. We are staying way out in the boonies of Sebastopol. She insisted they had it before so we can get it again. When I called I told a woman our situation. I told her it was more than likely we cannot get Internet here. And she said oh sure you're all your neighbors have it. She said it might take the man eight hours but you can get it. I wish you could see how hard I'm laughing right now So four days ago this sixtyish man (Jerry)shows up takes one look around and says I can't do Internet here. He was not even here one minute. Then he gets on the phone with I guess his corporate people to change his order. Then after two hours some other woman ( Ms St Clair ) shows up brandishing a AT&T phone trying to get us to switch to AT&T phones. Not gonna happen. I'm just going to make it short and sweet at this point. After 5 1/2 hours of that man being here doing nothing but sitting at the table outside on the phone he comes to me and says I'm gonna go to lunch. I asked him is this going to happen or what. I have a three-year-old who's ready to kill me in my sleep if she doesn't get her cartoons soon. His words to me I will make sure it happens. So I handed him 10 bucks and told him to have lunch on me. Anybody who read my reviews knows I'm big on tipping your installers. 45 minutes later he walked back up looks me in the eye and says it's not gonna happen they'll be back on the 16th. Which was four days later. Today. I was livid. LIVID!!!!!!! I tried to talk my mom out of having them come back and install. What a joke. All I can say is if you have options go somewhere else ***As always thank you for reading and have a peachy day*** The guy that came back three days later was able to install the cable. I have had to call for service twice in 2 months. I had porn on my Disney channel after the wind storm. My showtime was on channel 5 etc... And yes, I took video to have proof. I may seem like a couch potato, due to the number of reviews I have done on TV related things, but when you are sick , and can't go out, any serious yelper knows you have to find your outlet somewhere! I am impressed by Direct TV. The HD programming is so wonderful and fairly extensive. It is especially great when you have, as we do, a HD DVR to catch all those programs we may otherwise miss. The only reason they don't deserve a fifth star, is due to the blacking out of the signal when the weather goes foul. (RAIN) Other than that, Direct TV has channels like Fine Living channel, which is so cool! From the Smithsonian channel, to the National Geographic Channel to Animal planet and the food network, as well as the Discovery channels are all offered HD just to name some of my faves . As the result I received an email thanking for coming back and informing me that new installation is scheduled. I did my homework, cnet.com, consumerreports.org, etc, and found they all recommended Direct TV. So in January 2009 I switched from Comcast to Direct TV, initially trouble started as soon as the installer showed up, but really it started when I signed up on-line. The package I thought I was getting was in fact not the one that I wanted, I'll chalk that one up to user error (though I'm pretty savvy). Basically I wanted on-demand, the intaller told me I had the right box, but then found out I didn't have the right box. The next bump came when the installer tried to fire up the DTV. "It's the box," he said. So I waited for him to run around to get a new box , install it, and find out that it nearly had the same issue. By nearly I mean it took the second box 1-hour to get satellites and reception. So, it kinda worked. For the next 4-9 months we had spotty reception. I repeatedly called DTV customer service and ran through countless sporadically successful resets with the tech on the phone and was ultimately told that I would have to pay $50 for a tech to come out, or pay $5 for service insurance. I was also told that it was probably a minor adjustment, and not DTV equipment, and that I could take care of (not getting satellites message on the box). After months of frustration I acquiesced to paying for DTV's equipment insurance and scheduled a tech to come out. The tech found that we were missing an important piece of equipment, the power booster for the DTV box to get signals from the dish. When I called customer service they offered me 3-months of free Showtime. Gee, I watched one movie on Showtime in the 3-months I had it, due to the fact that there wasn't anything on it worth watching. So, here I am at the end of my 1st year in the 2 year contract, and my rates are about to double. To make things worse, I'm a cycling addict, Direct TV has dropped all cycling channels (2), so I'll miss this year's cycling coverage on the HD TV. I hear there's a possibility that they will offer one of the cycling channels for an extra fee later this year. I'm so done with Direct TV!! read more

To Costo Members: This is a letter I wrote to Costco after being accosted by a DTV rep in our local Costco store: To Costco Management: It is hard to imagine that Costco management is not somehow already aware of this issue, but just in case, here goes. Your association with Direct TV is definitely not a good PR move for your faithful customers. I have been happily buying from and trusting Costco for 26 years. I don't need to tell you about the level of integrity that has come to be associated with the Costco brand. Yesterday my wife and I were in the Santa Rosa, CA store and near the entrance we were approached by a young woman selling Direct TV subscriptions. She had the demeanor o a used car salesman as was as pushy. Her attempted "closing" was bordering on obnoxious. (She also told us that she is neither a Costco member nor a Direct TV subscriber.) But that isn't the real issue here. The figures she quoted sounded good compared to what we are paying Comcast for our Internet and TV service and I told her so, but that I wanted to check with Comcast first to be sure about how ending our contract with them would come down. This is where she shifted her pitch into closing mode and even called in an assistant. Again, just like the used car lot. So when we got home, I went online and first thing I did was to pull up "Direct TV reviews." Every rating agency gives them a one-star review. There are literally hundreds of sites dedicated to blasting Direct TV with being everything from just disreputable to being a downright money-sucking scam. Costso folks, you really NEED TO CHECK THE REVIEWS of this disreputable company that YOU ARE ENDORSING by allowing them to sell in your stores. You are associating yourself with them further by allowing them to offer a $200 Costco gift certificate with a new subscriptions. Read the reviews and then please reconsider having these people sully the fine reputation that Costco has worked hard to build. I signed up for Direct TV in April of 2014, and gave my $100 deposit. When the tech came out to my home to install it was discovered that my location was not the best location for a satellite, and thats totally understandable. The tech said they would automatically refund my deposit and to wait up to two weeks. I was fine with this but then... 3 MONTHS later I still had not recieved a refund. After my third phone call I was told that the refund was never processed and they apologized and would expedite the refund and to give it a week. 2 MONTHS later still no refund, I called again and was given the SAME information about it getting expedited etc. Here I am a WHOLE YEAR after the fact and I still have not recieved my refund. Now when I call I am told that there is no record of service ever being ordered. After speaking to multipl people who showed I had a refund due and promised to get it to me, I am now being told that there is no record and they cannot refund me when their system shows I never attempted to order service. Absolutely horrible customer service. $100 may not be a lot in the scheme of things, but for a singe mom of two kids that is a lot of money that just dissappeared. I will NEVER recommend or attempt to get service with them ever again because of this experience. SO FRUSTRATING! read more

Used to love their service. Then they blended with AT&T and boy does it show. Since they married, my service has been on a constant decline. This culminated in a serviceman who was "too fat to fit under my house" and rewired my entire house from the outside. He screwed black cable all along the white trim of my house and then drilled 2 holes through the outside into the inside to run a new line because he was too fat to fit under the house to change out the old line. He told me he was too fat to fit under my house so if I wanted my TV to work with the new cables he had to do it on the outside. REALLY?? When he was done he told me they also have white cable....so he chose to use the black on the white trim? It was because he didn't want to get it out of the truck after he was all ready on the ladder. Except...he wasn't all ready was he? He never asked if I wanted white or black cable he just decided black was the right color to go on the white trim because he already had it... Lazy pig right? Did I need the new cables? My service is now worse than when I called. It's probably the box. Maybe this new marriage should consider their step children and stop charging $100's of dollars a month and sending over repairmen that are too corpulent to properly function in their jobs so they arbitrarily damage your home due to their penchant for poor judgement in most obvious situations. I asked him to make changes and he made only one. After having him here for 5 hours I was just done and said goodbye. Then he asked me to give him a good review when the survey called. I've made a complaint with the CPUC, Better Business Bureau, and opened a claim with Radvocate, and I'm just getting warmed up! I'm pissed! DIRECTV hiked our prices so I called them in February 2018 to get it down. They tried to put me in a contract and I told them no I was moving. I told them we've been a customer for over 5 years and I just want to get our bill down, because I didn't know where we would be in the next few months.  They said no problem,  just call them when I know more. I was very clear I did not want a contract and they put me in one without my permission or  knowledge.  He gave me a verbal several times that I would not be in a contract.  I thought a verbal was good enough, how can they put me in a contract just sending me an email? I just called to cancel my DIRECTV, without me knowing so they said they sent me an email and put me in a contract anyway. So now they are charging me $210 to cancel my dIRECTV and owe me for my expenses for trying to get my money back of $29.99. I told the supervisor, you tape all these conversations and go back and listen to the tape and he said he can't do that and he wouldn't give me the customer ID number who I spoke to back in February.  I talked to supervisor named Nick today 7/6/18 employee number in M17OC . Woooooow has directv gone down hill since at&t took over. Was a valued customer of 12+ years paid on time paid 120$ a month for choice package and equipment. Called in April after losing job due to covid. Asked the rep on the phone if there's anything they can do to lower my monthly bill? "New customers are getting same package for 39.99$!. I have had direct tv since 1998 and quality has gone downhill since ATT took over direct tv. My tv is constantly freezing and clipping and now there is at least a 30 second delay on the remote. You press the buttons and nothing changes for about 30 seconds or more. Then it also freezes on the guide. I am going to switch to DISH after my discount I got from complaining about them adding $20 a month for their service repair program which I didn't order. And since I canceled repair service. I have had nothing but problems with DIRECT TV Service. Thanks DIRECT TV for selling out to ATT your service sucks now. read more

Where do I start? I signed up for DirecTV to have more channels than Uverse. The installer walked into my home and within 3 minutes I lost internet service and at minute 4 he was asking for $50 CASH to go to Home Depot to pick up 500' of cable. All this after not arriving with no signage on the van nor a business card. (I have a small townhouse that is 50' from front to back.) Fast forward, he didn't have an appropriate length ladder nor did he bring an extension cord. Additionally, he installed the dish directly to the roof over my living space. He also strung the recently purchased cable over my roof. The supervisor has assured me there will be no leaks. Moving into the inside of the house, holes were drilled and the cable run through my walls - NO chalk, NO face plates. I called and a supervisor and he came to the property. When I pointed out the holes in my walls he blamed ME for getting the wrong cable. I am being stonewalled by the supervisor when I request a response. I am very disappointed and if I would have it to do over again i would not have selected DirecTV. But now I'm stuck with holes in my roof and front and back of my home. I will be contacting Michael Finney with ABCChannel 7 news by the end of this week. read more

I was a happy customer of DirecTV for 16 years. Then, A T & T acquired the company and everything turned to sh@t! There was frequent pixelation, annoying warnings about my available DVR space dropping below 10% and shows to be deleted. Last week I got a new roof on my house, which required the disconnection of my dish. When I called A T & T to have it remounted, they told me I'd have to wait five days. When DirecTV operated the company, appointments were usually scheduled within 24-36 hours. No pleading with their helpful staff mattered and I was fed up. I've switched to Dish Network, am saving over $100 per month and have superior equipment to that which DirecTV provided and am receiving excellent customer service. Good riddance. I recommend current DirecTV customers do the same. One star is overly generous! read more

We dropped DirecTV and the additional $80 a month their landline telephone service was costing ($270 a month for both!). We continued our existing Verizon account for satellite phone service. We spent $210 on Apple TV, a one-time cost for the box. We upgraded our bandwidth for an additional $20 a month, subscribed to Hulu, Netflix, CBS, and HBO for a total of about $50 a month, and now have more content available than we'll be able to watch in 429 years! New cost? Roughly $75 a month, or a saving of nearly $200 a month (recouping the cost of the Apple TV box in a single month). We had our heads in the sand! We should have dropped DirecTV the minute AT&T bought it. Buying great companies, degrading the service, raising the costs, and letting them fail is the AT&T "business" model. They told me I could recycle or throw away the cable boxes and even where to recycle them. 1 month later they are telling me to return them. They have it recorded saying I can throw away and even played it back to supervisor. Still they say I must return. Also charged me cancellation fee for 8yrs of membership. Customer service is terrible. I spent hours on the phone and I got nowhere. I was promised $600 in cash cards at a Costco sign up and only received half of that. I had service for a month-and-a-half and realized how terrible customer service was. I paid penalties of $300 just to get rid of DirecTV. I am now on day 4 of trying to cancel my Direct TV Now subscription which was supposed to be free according to AT&T. I just had a $20 charge on my bank account which I never OK'd. I have been given the run around on chat and when I called, they told me I had to go on chat. I can't believe what a scam this is. A charge without consent and then they make it next to impossible to cancel it. I have literally spent about 8-10 hours on this. I just waited 40 minutes on hold to even talk to someone who turned around and told me they could do nothing and when I asked to talk to a manager, I was declined. Direct TV charged me $827 for 5 boxes that I returned and they possess. I was told I was going to be credited my money back, but instead went on my credit report. I was told that they didn't want them honestly because they were "old technology" now everything is digital. Do not get direct t.v.....their customer service is horrible. I wish I could give negative stars. My experience with DTV has taught me that they are dishonest scamming crooks. They actually steal money from their customers!!! When I moved to a place where the dish could not be mounted, a bit over a year into my 2-year contract, I was told that cancellation was not possible without paying a huge fee. The customer service agent convinced me to suspend my DTV service so that if I moved after the first year to a place where I could mount my dish, I could just reactivate my account and hook up my old equipment. What a great idea! The only problem was that you can only suspend service for 6 months, after which you have to request a 3-month extension twice. I told the person that I would never remember to call them and do that, so I had better just pay the fees. He argued that they send out an email notice AND send something via the postal service to remind you, so that wouldn't be a problem... What actually happened was that they just started debiting my credit card without contacting me AT ALL. I only realized after a couple of months when my credit card balance seemed too high (yes, I should have kept a closer eye on that account). I called them to explain that there was no way I was using their service since we had never had a dish installed at my new home, which they were very aware of. When I also mentioned that none of the promised reminders had arrived, they gave me the equivalent of a shoulder shrug over the phone. In the end, I was charged about $450 for nothing, plus I had to cough up the cancellation fee on top of that since the two years of the original contract were still not up. Without the "helpful" CS agent, I would have been $450 less in the hole. So basically, they took money directly out of my account without telling me and without keeping their promise to contact me when it was time to re-suspend or restart the service. I never even received a statement in the mail for the charges! This is incredibly dishonest and, frankly, disgusting. Of course, DTV, a full refund and a written apology along with proof that whoever enacted your foul policies is long gone might convince me to stop spreading the word about the absolutely unacceptable behavior you engage in. But nobody expects you to do that, because you are scum, and when you had the chance to do the right thing, you happily did the worst thing possible with zero accountability for your own mistakes. I have a house that I rent out in Santa Rosa, CA. The tenants got Direct TV and the dish was put on the roof damaging the roof. The tenants now have to pay to have 6 new shingles put on the damaged roof. Direct TV did not get my permission or my tenants permission to put the dish on the roof. They were just lazy. Sad to be told you can't get a service appointment for over a week when your system isn't working. All I did was have the power off for a few hours and now it has problems. The phone support person was very nice, and that is why the get two stars. So now I have no TV reception while I wait. It seems clear they are understaffed. May be considering a new provider. I've been a loyal customer since 2006. I have hit hard times and still trying to keep this company. I have downgraded packages, but I am now paying more!!!! How does any of this make sense? I'm told there is nothing to offer me. Why not the movies channels free for 6 months? Why not one of the amazing deals that all the new incoming customers get? I'm receiving the run around and it is RIDICULOUS!! I am understanding why all of my friends and family switched back to cable. I agree with previous posters: if there was a negative star to give, I would give it to DirecTV. We cancelled our DirecTV after moving and returned the equipment. Twice they have accused us of not returning the equipment and twice I have called to tell them the equipment was returned to have some hapless customer service rep say "Uh, oh yeah, here it is..." Now they CHARGE us $195 for the equipment and I spend another 45 minutes on the phone having them re-find the equipment and refund the $195. Did they think I wouldn't notice $195 missing? Did they hope they could just sneak off with my $195? Crooks. read more

I see the rating for Directv is about as low as it can go, but I hope to send it even lower. After nearly one year on a two year agreement, my service went out 100%. At this time my wife was unable to walk and TV was her way to pass the time. Directv did not send out a technician for 5 days. I was so upset that I cancelled my service and went to Xfinity. Directv now wants to charge me hundreds of dollars for breaking the contract. Seems they can do anything they want including not providing any service, and the customer still has to pay.
