Dio Mio has been on my list of places to try for quite some time now and after finally checking it out, I wasn't too impressed. I went with five others and we got a variety of dishes. I was very excited about the rigatoni but when I tried it- the dish was very dry and the sausage was hard/overcooked. It was only warm and seemed like it had been sitting out for a while before being served. The Cacio e Pepe was good but lacking a strong pepper flavor, it tasted more like a plain cream/cheesy sauce. The other dishes were our two favorites, the Radiatori and the Cavatelli. The meal was served with some tasty bread and they had good choices for local canned beer. Sad that this place didn't live up to it's hype for me, will probably stick to some of the other great Italian spots in Denver. read more

All I should have to say is, "handmade pasta fresh daily." But since this is Yelp, I'll continue. The space is so cozy and inviting and the outside seating is lovely when the weather permits. The food is to die for delicious and although I've never been to Italy, feels like the real deal. The staff is also wonderful. Peter recognizes my boyfriend and I and greets us personally every visit even when he's busy making the delicious food. Ordered takeout because our friends recommended this place. They told us 35 mins but our friends told us to be there 15 mins after ordering because it's always ready early. We were a few mins away when we got the text to let us know the food was ready. We ate outside at some patio tables nearby and the pasta was cold. We ate it within 5 minutes of pickup. Radiatori - basil pistachio pesto, mozzarella, and furikake. The furikake was a interesting touch to the pasta but it was really good. It elevated the flavors and gave it a nice crunch. You get a menu at your table and then go to the counter to order. The woman at the counter was ridiculously knowledgeable about wine and coursed out my apps and entree appropriately. The mixed greens salad was tasty but overdressed to the point of being soggy. The artichokes were heavy, too much brown butter and olive sauce, making it visually unpleasant and, again, a bit soggy. The pasta was fine but over cooked, the sauce was a bit watery, and needed more salt. This restaurant is right on the cusp of something great as a concept, they just need to get their food more on point. read more

This is located closer to RiNo area and there is street parking all over so not too tough to get parked and walk over. So, you get in line and order at the counter. After that - the seating is first come, first serve. We came on a Friday night and it was VERY and people had to fight for a table. We noticed people who sat after us got their food so i guess they pay attention to when you sit to bring your food over. We were told there would be a 40 minute wait for food anyway - I guess they were behind on the pasta which is made fresh. We ordered and waited for a table for two to open. They also had a bar counter with stools but was also very full. We looked around and it looked like people weren't even served yet so we definitely felt a bit defeated. They sell full bottles of wine - should prob not on a busy night (weekend) because people will want to sit longer and enjoy - which we did notice. There aren't enough seats to begin with! After about 35 min of standing and waiting in a small place staring at people eating their food and drinking their wine, we asked for our food to-go and the waitress said it would be another 10 min. And was very hot inside also and there isn't a ton of standing room. We waited another 15 min before we got our food and took it home. So, it was good. You can't make reservations before so I would plan on gettin here early or putting your name in and grabbing a drink at one of the places nearby. This is a fun not quite fast food, but not quite fine dining concept for Italian. You are seated at a table and then you have to go up to the counter to order drinks and food. They also bring you bread to munch on while you wait for your food and drinks. When the food came out I took one bit of the pasta it was sooooo good! I got the Cacio E Pepe and it was so light it didn't feel like a heavy pasta at all...that could be why I finished the whole thing haha. Dio Mio is one of the best places to eat in Denver. It's that simple. Hand-made pasta done with incredible attention to detail. I've been a number of times, and each time they wow me. The quality and pricing are that of an upscale restaurant. But you'll have to order at the counter, get a number and jockey for position to get a table in the often-crowded dining room. Trust me--it's worth the effort. The cacio e pepe pasta sounds simple but tastes complex. The bread is made fresh and is excellent. I've had a pork ragu that was out of this world. There was a polenta one night that had me going back for more. If you hear about a special menu night, like all-you-an-eat spaghetti and meatballs, please GO. There's nothing boring about their spaghetti and red sauce. The basic dinner salad is made with fresh local greens that are full of flavor and lightly dressed--just as I like it. Even the basic menu changes regularly, so it's hard to make a recommendation. There are familiar Italian dishes and some out-of-the-box dishes that sometimes fuse flavors from other cuisines. Stopped by Dio Mio for happy hour -- some great deals with a selection of $10 pastas, $5 appetizers, and 2 for $6 house wines. I chose to order the cacio e pepe and the broccoli. The broccoli came out first and had a very interesting and unique flavor. Crunchy onions and chili sauce complemented the cheddar sauce nicely. I was not too sure if I liked it the first few bites, but it really ended up growing on me! I would come back for the broccoli. The cacio e pepe was pretty good. House made pasta had a great texture and flavor, but I was not completely sold on the overall dish itself. Nothing too exciting going on here, and it could have used some more parmesan. The ambience inside is a bit lacking. It feels like a cafeteria and not super welcoming. Ambience aside, the good far makes up for the lack of a romantic setting. We began with the sour dough bread with prosciutto and straciatella. The bread could have been eaten alone. Crispy and soft at the same time. Delectable. The cheese and meat were frosting on the cake. Also VERY filling! The chopped salad was perfection. The warmth from the sunflower seeds and their texture elevated the salad- and the dressing was out of this world. Do not pass this one up. I am a sucker for a chicken parm. This one was spicy with pickled vegetables that sounded strange- but do yourself a favor and try it. Chicken was perfectly Breaded. The spice was such a welcome surprise. I couldn't stop eating it. Was a little scared of something with oxtail in it cause it just doesn't sound appealing but it was pasta wrapped in something with tomoatoes and was just so yummy. Not really sure what the food is like here but my girlfriend and I attempted to dine here tonight and were refused the table (the one not in the middle of the room) we requested only to watch it given immediately to the two people behind us in line.
