Roast duck quarter and Shanghai Juice Pork and Crabmeat Dumplings
    Jesse W.

The food here is delicious and authentic! We liked it enough that we went back for breakfast the next day! The duck was so juicy and crispy, and the broth in the dumplings was very tasty. The congee for breakfast was delicious as served but even better after adding chili sauce and soy sauce. We even took out the special to have later for lunch. Amazing food! Service was quick. The ambience was akin to a quick eat food hall, allowing you to sit and enjoy the food after picking it up from the counter. It was clean and well stocked.

We decided to go to toy fair in NYC this weekend, search around for dinner place and found this gem. From the outside it looks small but it actually has decent dining area in the back. When you first enter there are order kiosk, so you ordered there and paid and you get a number. You wait in the dining room until your number get called. We like it so much we decided to come back again for breakfast AND bought meal to go for lunch. Regretting not buying more for dinner at the airport lol. For dinner we got 1/4 roasted duck and dumplings (roasted duck and crab). Sooo delicious and flavorful. The skin of the duck also very crispy. I'm drooling just writing this. When we realized this place open at 8 of course we had to comeback for breakfast. For breakfast we opt to get roasted pork and thousand year egg congee. It was good but nothing top the roasted duck. It was a good portion for $9 ish. I would like to be more thicker as well but overall we still enjoy it. We also get the scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes need a little sauce a bit lacking of flavor but nice and crispy. Then for the to go lunch we decided on their dumplings special. 2 pcs of Buddha dumplings (mixed vegetables), 2 pcs mushrooms dumplings, 2 egg rolls, 2 Portuguese egg tart, scallions pancakes and cucumber salad plus lemon tea (all for $23.99!)I'm not a vegetarian but these are delicious! If I ever in the area again I definitely will go to this place again.

Adequate. Overpriced for easy Dim Sum. The bbq pork buns were my favorite. The vegetable dumplings weren't memorable. I like the system of the place. Big eating cafeteria seating area in the back and you hear your order over the intercom.

We ordered the pork set, wonton soup, shumai, and duck. The meat for the pork was very dry; probably because we came an hour before closing, so it probably sat out for a while. The duck itself was okay, but the duck sauce was not great. The wonton soup and shumai, however, was pretty good. The place is self-serve, which is nice. The place could be cleaner, but it's most likely reliant primarily on the customers to clean up after themselves.

Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 7 Value: 6 Overall: 7 Can you find authentic Chinese cuisine near Time Square? The answer is yes. Prices are certainly higher than Chinatown or Flushing as expected, but this Cantonese restaurant serving comfort foods a few blocks away from the brightest lights in NYC is legit. Everything we ordered was pretty good and satisfied a late night craving after a Broadway show. It's not the best quality you can find in NYC, but way better than I expected. Minor complaints would be that the Roast Duck was a bit over seasoned and the Minced Beef Rice Roll was falling apart slightly because it was mildly mushy. However, the Shu Mai and Shrimp & Pork Wonton Noodles were solid. Though the cost of the meal is higher than what I'm use to for Chinese food in other neighborhoods of NYC, I would not hesitate to eat here when I am in the area looking for a comforting meal.

Dim Sum Sam offers decent prices (especially for the location) and solid food, but the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. The space is lit with harsh white fluorescent lighting, giving it a cafeteria-like feel, and the lack of windows makes it feel a bit gloomy and closed off- not a nice experience for our last dinner in NYC. Food-wise, most dim sum items we got were generally good (not the best dim sum, not the worst). The Hong Kong egg tart, shumai, and shrimp dumpling was very good. The pork rice roll was good as well, but didn't have enough filling IMO. On the flip side, the cucumber dish was a miss, as it lacked flavor and wasn't properly prepared. There was also another steamed dumpling thing that got stuck to the try, breaking when we pulled it out. One nice touch is that the sauces are out for you to get. Overall, it's a functional spot for a quick dim sum fix, especially if you're focused on the food and not the vibe. Just don't expect atmosphere-it's more grab-and-go.

Dim Sum Sam you are fast, quick, and tasty! If you are craving some Asian food this is the spot. They are busy and kind of hectic but the food is legit. The dim sum here is delicious and the noodles are tasty! I wanted a different type of noodle but they were already sold out for the day. But even the egg noodles were nice and springy. This is pretty much a fast casual spot with a few other locations around New York. I would totally come back here for their food it was just that good.

I got the pork and century egg congee plus the buddah delight dumplings through Uber Eats. The prices were pretty affordable even with the mark ups. It was packaged very well, nothing spilled upon arrival. The congee was very big and had a lot of toppings inside. I had leftovers. It was very flavourful, hot and tasty. Totally hit the spot. The buddah delight dumplings were good too, all the right toppings inside. It was a little bland though, the side of soy sauce and chili oil helped. It was steamed well and hot when I received them.

I was honestly walking to eat somewhere else and saw a sign for some crazy meal deals. But it wasn't until I was inside where I landed on the Roast Duck Over Rice which is also an insane NYC bargain in my opinion. This is a super casual spot with plenty of people ordering to-go but the dining area has limited seating as well with a self-serve station for disposables. Order at the register or at the kiosk and your food will be out fairly fast! The duck was fantastic with crispy skin and I loved the veggies and egg too. Loaded with rice underneath that gets soaked with some of that leftover flavor. I need to come back to try the pork next!

Outstanding option for Times Square area. Authentic Chinatown-style HK BBQ duck and pork. Super-fast, clean, wholesome, and delicious.

If heaven serves dim sum, it probably looks like this. The siu mai was juicy and flavorful -- that perfect pork-shrimp combo with a pop of roe on top. The xiao long bao? Brothy little miracles. Handle with care unless you want a soup facial. Even the gai lan was on point -- crisp, bright, and soaking in that umami-rich soy sauce. And don't sleep on the braised beef rice bowl -- melt-in-your-mouth beef, tender daikon, and rice that soaked up all that savory goodness like a champ. Everything came out fresh and hot, service was quick, and portions were solid. You can tell they care about quality -- not just turning tables.

Getting in and out of Dim Sum Sam can be difficult, as the queue is near the door, but the eating area is inside. I will say, though, that their location being near the heavy foot traffic in Port Authority Bus Transit AND a convenient alternative to Chinatown may make it heavily frequented. I stopped by finally on a weekend night after seeing those Portuguese Tarts stare at me. Dessert? I shouldn't, but fine! They were so creamy with the perfectly roasted top and thin crust. I also had an order of their Hong Kong Style Milk Tea, and it was amazing, exactly like I had tasted straight from Hong Kong. Service as you could expect, was fast and efficient. Quick in, quick out.

Fast causal dim sum place that also serves soup noodles and Cantonese BBQ meats. Upon entering it looks small, but there is a good amount of seating in the back. There is also an upstairs section. After ordering, you can sit down and wait for your number to be called. The food was pretty decent. The shrimp dumplings and beef rice noodle roll were delicious and fresh. There is extra sauce you can use by the self serve utensils counter. The chicken feet was ok. It was nice and tender but could use more flavor. Overall, a good place to have a quick meal or snack in the area.

Dish highlights include the shrimp and chive dumplings, beef chow fun, and my personal favorite, the stuffed eggplant. Other items were a little bland, like the turnip cakes and har gow, and the pan fried shrimp noodles were awkwardly plated and made them difficult to eat. I also wish they had rice noodle rolls, which I didnt see on the menu. Really what pushed it to 5 stars to me was the service. We came as a huge group of 20, with a baby and stroller in tow, and they handled everything without so much as a grimace, just an outpouring of helpfulness. They sat half our group at a round table and the other half at a rectangular long table and also helped us navigate dietary restrictions, asking specifically who in the group had those restrictions. The menu is labeled too, so you know which items are vegetarian or gluten free. At one point our helpful server noticed we hadn't really touched that awkwardly plated noodle dish and offered to replace it with another. We didn't take him up on that as I'd find that wasteful but I thought that was so attentive and earned them a generous tip. The space is nice looking, and the food came out very quickly. We also didn't break the bank, even with plenty of drink orders. Dao's is an easy recommendation, especially when you factor in how seamlessly they handled our chaos.

I was browsing for places with scallion pancakes and I came across this restaurant. I saw they had a scallion pancake beef rook which I'd never seen before. It was fried and crispy on the inside with tender beef on the inside, that was slightly savory slightly sweet. I had the roll on its own, which made for a light meal, but it can also be enjoyed as a large snack. It was a little greasy, which can be expected, but not sure if I'd get it again. I did think it was innovative though. The most impressive thing about the restaurant was actually the space. I came to pick up my food and was surprised to see this beautiful place. The outside is unassuming and nothing special but inside has the aesthetic of an old Shanghai restaurant. It's ornate and slightly quirky. It's also really big, bigger than I expected. Even the bathrooms had traditional Chinese flare with the sliding doors. Definitely worth checking out,

Some of the most memorable dishes were the Mapo Tofu ($13.99), Hutaoli Roast Chicken ($43 for whole), Spicy Pot Potato ($19), Roasted Green Beans ($22), etc. All of the food is good, but definitely pricey. While the food also came out quickly, our drinks came out towards the end of our meal. It's a good spot for big parties as it never got too busy even on a Saturday night.
