I just wanted a place that wasn't too loud or too quiet to read my book at that wasn't a library. This was it. I've seen a few on their laptops getting to work. The dim sum is delicious and the service was quick. You simply just tell them your order or do it over a kiosk and it's done.

Was in the Gramercy area and found this dim sum spot, modern and clean right on 23rd street. I saw great yelp reviews and thought to give it a try! Was a bit nervous as this was not in prime Chinatown or Flushing area so I wasn't sure how authentic it would be. However this completely exceeded my expectations! I ordered an array of dim sum to share, chicken feet, pork buns, shrimp rice rolls, eggplant wrapped shrimp, and steamed dumplings. All of the flavors completely exceeded my hesitation. They were all well prepared and the dumplings and chicken feet came in a little bamboo steamer! It was definitely on par if not slightly better than Chinatown spots! Plus this was a clean and minus all the commotion and noise of Chinatown! So definitely a plus! Also this is a self serve place you place an order on a computer and go up front to pay. Then wait a few minutes for your food. It is very much a self serve spot. Which I was totally fine with. Overall can't wait to return! Where I don't have to schlep all the way downtown to Chinatown or cross borough to flushing for some delicious dim sum!

In Flatiron, there aren't that many Chinese restaurants around that cater to the dim sum crowd. This place has a good selection of dim sum which is great to share with a small group or have small dishes to keep you full while on-the-go. I love the clean decor and color theme. It's easy to order through the kiosk in the middle of the restaurant and there are plenty of seats around. After you order, you have to go to the front to pay. I clicked on pay but had to run back to the kiosk to click pay again as you need to click twice. For a large order, food came out in decent time and piping hot. The winners were the shrimp dumpling, fried rice dumpling and sticky rice wrap. The shrimp dumplings were huge and generously filled. Love that the skin was thin. Very fresh. The fried rice dumpling was probably one of the best ones I've ever had because it was fresh. The outer skin was crispy with a soft bite into decent filling. Great flavor. The sticky rice was full of ingredients as it should be and giant. Filling and great for a quick lunch. The wonton soup wasn't bad. I would skip the beef tripe rice roll. It had great flavor but just didnt do it for me. Also skip the taro. I prefer it more fried than how we received it. It was too mushy for my liking.

The staffs were friendly. Ordered siu mai (4 pieces), soup dumplings (4 pieces), and short ribs via kiosk. You can dine in or take out. There's places to sit however, the place is usually packed during the weekday because of the college students. A little over price but, if you want convenient dim sum, it is good. Still a solid place for self service dim sum. Saved me many trips to Chinatown (where the dim sum is mediocre these days), and I like that you're free to not order hot tea (which is not possible at traditional dim sum places where they often charge per head for hot tea even if you don't want hot tea). I noticed they have a Long Island City location listed on the takeout form, asked about it - apparently it's a new location for takeout pickup.

For fast casual, I didn't know that we would get such good quality dim sum! This is what I would expect from actual dim sum places. The service is really quick and I love that you're free to just pick and choose what sauces you want. Honestly, perfect for when you want to get dim sum for takeout.

This is such a clean area. Food looks really good and it's prepared very quickly. It's straightforward inconvenient an area! The service is great and the food is yummy. What more could you want?

Came here for the awesome reviews but was pretty disappointed... First I'll say I loved the self order kiosk... but then you had to go to the cashier to pay which defeated the whole purpose to me. Why make it only partially self service ? Ambiance: It's pretty bland as far as decor but for a quick stop, mostly self service place that's fine. I came about 7pm and half the place was shut down - meaning chairs flipped up on the tables and not in use. Was really a turn off... I wasn't sure if I should stay despite their losted times saying they were definitely still open for a while. Food: The food was bland to me. I ordered 2 items and both were bland... I had never had a steamed rice roll so maybe it just isn't my thing. The soul dumplings were disappointing to me. There really wasn't any flavor and I didn't realize they would be so small (though that could be my fault - in Texas they're much larger). Despite their size I would have expected more flavor so I'm rating based on that. Value: Overall I paid about $20 for 2 items and left dissatisfied. That didn't even include a drink. I just feel like there are much better locations in NYC for vibe, price, and flavor. I'm quite surprised at the high reviews

Despite the obvious cheesy name, one of the biggest surprises during one of my last trips back was enjoying Awesum Dimsum. It lived up to the hype and made me long for fast casual dim sum near my work place (#1). It also made me realize how much I missed working in the Flatiron and the endless possibilities of incorporating this place into our rotation of repeat lunches. One doesn't have to embarrass themselves by attempting to say the dish names to the staff. Everything is ordered through a touch screen in the front and payment is done in the front. Eventually someone will call your number with the items on the tray and then you bring it back to your table. That's it. The space is narrow and group dining can be a challenge. They've done a good job with custom tables that look more like crooked counters, but there is a good amount of seating for all parties. Bathrooms are also clean and the prices are a *little* more than the average dim sum spot. The staff is definitely a Canto speaking bunch and I admire how hard and how quickly they work. The food is good and I appreciate the picture menu. I tend to expect a watered down version of things when I'm at fast casual places like this but it really holds its own compared to any dedicated dim sum spot. I really enjoyed the fried shrimp taro cake, shrimp dumplings, rice rolls, egg tarts, and baked buns. It's tremendously easy to over order here (#2). I'd go again in a heartbeat. It's not only good food but it's also a time saver for folks who are unwilling to make the trek to Chinatown or beyond. It really is a worthy option in the Flatiron. __________ (#1) Or wherever I am. (#2) And I'd happily do it every time. Feast like a beast.

We went straight for their signature deep fried garlic chicken and decided to share the Peking duck--and both dishes were beautifully presented and packed with incredible flavor. The chicken, in particular, was crispy, aromatic, and absolutely delicious, though it's worth noting you'll want to be a bit careful as there are quite a few small bones throughout. The Peking duck was equally impressive, cooked perfectly with rich, satisfying taste in every bite. You can really tell the kitchen puts care into both quality and presentation. It treats non-relatives like family, making strangers feel younger and fostering closeness. The atmospheric decor contains very beautiful Chinese lanterns suspended from the ceiling throughout the restaurant. I believe it is decorated for Lunar New Year throughout the entire year. No comment for facility as I did not utilize. Customer service is average attentive and the staff is fluent in both English and Cantonese. I did not have to wait long to be served nor request the bill, and neither attain change. I often dine alone as a single woman and was regarded with respect for patronizing. It is always good to hear Cantonese spoken as it is mellifluous... at long last to continue this vernacular of Chinese language. I ordered in a mixture of both English and Cantonese. I was promptly seated by the maître d' promptly for a table. Melamine/plastic chopsticks in neon green and ceramic / porcelain china including ceramic Chinese soup spoon are distributed to customers while dine-in. A traditional teapot is also distributed during the duration of meal like large banquet hall Dim Sum restaurants. The large round tables contain a rotating lazy susan in traditional Chinese restaurant standard. Wow. No disposable wooden chopsticks and no disposable bowls for utensils are distributed at Uncle Lou. Price is slightly high, but worth the food quality and customer service. Uncle Lou did surely feed me! Shrimp Wonton noodle soup, Ho fun (flat rice noodles), shrimp based broth, $14.95 The bowl is gargantuan and the six (6) dumplings are good size portion served in ceramic / porcelain china. There are Chinese vegetable of one strand choi sam (choy sum) and scallions. The shrimp Wonton dumplings are a good size and good consistency. The soup broth is solid for flavor and consistency. It was served piping hot as steam was visibly emitting. The soup broth was slightly heavy. The flat rice noodles were sufficient for quantity. Noodle soup is Chinese comfort food and warms the heart. It sustained my hunger pangs throughout the day. Upon arrival the wait staff prominently announce to inform customers of 9% discount for cash payment and a 3% additional surcharge or fees for any credit/debit card payment for situational awareness. I was informant and made fully aware twice: upon entry when seated and upon receiving the bill. Uncle Lou complies with "Prohibition of Cashless Establishments, as of March 21, 2026, all retail and food establishments in New York State, including New York City, must accept in-person cash payments, banning fully cashless stores." (source: Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Local Law 34 of 2020). Oh! For small amounts of purchases, my default payment method is cash. Yes, cash is still widely accepted in the 21st century. Nota Bene: Have cash on hand to avoid annoying surcharge or fees. The bill is calculated and manually handwritten the old school way still a timeless classic. I paid my bill in cash including gratuity. No comment for Apple Pay or Google Wallet (formerly Android Pay/Google Pay) either acceptance or price differential vs. cash.
