I love its small veggie plate. For 3 "sides/toppings" plus your choice of rice, it comes out at $5.01. Also, they accept LevelUp here! During lunch and dinner hours, it is usually really crowded with Columbians so don't expect a seat. If you are here for a regular entree with a choice of meat, then you get 2 sides. For example, if you get chicken with rice, you get to choose two additional (veggies/sides) toppings. If you are getting the veggie plate, then you get rice with one veggie choice, plus two additional (veggies/sides) toppings. It has a good variety of healthy choices. I have been here multiple times and each time, I saw something new! Good marketing strategy for keeping college students coming back here! I really wish I loved this place so I could write a review like the others Dig has, but I unfortunately just didn't like my bowl that much. The Mac and cheese was decent but my brown rice was dry and I didn't enjoy the meatball or the charred chicken. besides the marinara sauce poured over the meatball, neither of the meats I got had much flavor or suited my palate I guess I got all four sauces ( you can see them in my picture) because I assumed I would want a little more spice but I just overall wasn't super satisfied with my meal. If you're looking for delicious and tasty comfort food, this is not the place for you. Pros: Place is really pretty and has a nice modern look to it. Food is pretty healthy so it could be considered "clean eating." It's set up like a Chipotle/Boston Market so it's an assembly line so it takes like 2 minutes to get your food. There's also a good amount of options. Portions are good size. The free water cups are the regular size cups :) Cons: Food is ok. It's healthy food but they try too hard to make it tasty and original by adding too many things to it. Place can also get pretty crowded, especially during peak hours. Honestly, the food for me was like a 2 but because of the moderate prices and atmosphere and healthiness, I gave it a 3. I would probably not go back though. I am so glad that Dig Inn has opened in Morningside Heights! As a college student on a budget, I was so happy to see healthy, delicious food options that are more than reasonably priced! I went for the first time for dinner last night, and I got the salmon market plate. The salmon was lean and perfectly seared, and I got two sides with the meal: roasted sweet potatoes and sautéed kale. All of this came with a small portion of bulgar wheat. Even with a drink, my meal still came under $12 The quick ordering system made the line move quickly. The whole decor gave off a modern and sleek farmhouse vibe. I loved it! The wood juxtaposed with white marble countertops was an eye-appealing feature. I hope Dig Inn comes to the west coast..it will certainly give the other health food restaurants a run for their money. I went to Dig last week. I had no problems with the food or the ambiance. The reason why I gave three stars is for the bad service I received. When my daughter and I arrived at the restaurant, there was nobody on the line. It took the cashier 10 minutes to finally recognize us because he and the other staff members were busy with delivery orders. Secondly, when he finally asked us for our order, his attitude was so bad. It appeared to me like I was doing him a favor by being there. Whatever happened to good customer service. read more

This is such a great spot to grab a quick and healthy meal without breaking the bank. I stopped by on a Wednesday with friends and was surprised at how packed it was leading me to believe the food must be good and I soon found out that it was! I glanced the menu and wasn't entirely sure what to order so the workers were super nice and let me sample a bunch of things. I ended up going with their recommendations so if you don't know what to order just ask they won't steer you wrong. Everything was great I enjoyed the salmon, rice and veggies. I took a break from Dig for a year or so. I was disappointed with my recent visit. The chicken was very salty. Much more than I recall, and the portion size of sides has been reduced. Specifically the chicken took a hit in terms of portion size. I'm also baffled why the menu does not vary. This is another reason I'm taking breaks. Delicious! It's a great alternative to fast food; great options, and everything is fresh and delicious. The portions are pretty large, and the seasonings and flavors are unique and a bit different. Today, I had the kefir lemon quinoa in my bowl -- beyond good! Go in and try it! You'll be glad you did. Paying $12 for a bowl with farro, cauliflower, very flavorful mushrooms, and tofu felt like a very fair price for high quality food that is also healthy and not a boring salad. This is my go to place especially for the summertime. It's such a good place to get a healthy lunch or dinner meals when you don't have time to cook but still want to stick to a healthy regimen. The Mac and cheese is really good so if you have a craving for comfort food, you can get it as a side. The service and hospitality is outstanding. One time I ordered and I didn't mind waiting for the fish to be cooked and they offered me a free beverage just for waiting for 2 minutes! ANNA is a joy when you see her at the counter! Love Dig Inn. But my husband had stopped going because he'd seen flies on a few occasions. I convinced him to go back, and I went to pick up the food only to see a big fly buzzing around the kitchen and the food. As politely as possible I said - you've got to get the flies under control in here so I can convince my husband.... Before I'd finished the sentence she had handed me the bag and turned her back and walked away. Is it too much to ask that there not be flies? Disappointing. Disappointed by that response too. Dig Inn is great! The food is always fresh, delicious and most of all healthy. I always end up getting the same - a herb roasted chicken marketbowl with farm greens, roasted sweet potatoes, and mac & cheese. Highly recommend it, especially the mac & cheese which is amaaaazing. The service is fast and staff is friendly. There's plenty of seating inside but beware this location is always packed. Docking one star because the lines are so bad. Def. worth making if you're not in the rush though. You can also always order for pick up online or through the app; you can collect points if you use their LevelUp feature. Came back to Dig Inn about 5 times since my last review and they are definitely slowly improving, so it deserves another star ;). Continuing/Adding on to my previous review: SEATING: There are more tables available now and less people "camping", or maybe I've gone at better times? Either way, it's a good thing. However the tables are still dirty, so I've still been cleaning it myself but that isn't too big of a deal for me. NOTE: Try not to sit next to the employees, as some of them will put turn the speaker on on their cell phones so they can play music from it; unsure why that is allowed. Luckily it was loud enough in the dining area that only people who sat next to them could hear it. This has happened twice =\. Unprofessional, but whatever ... just switch seats and enjoy your food away from it, unless that's your thing. SERVICE: On my first visit back on 4/1, after writing my initial review on 3/31 (yes, I know it's literally the following day, but I really do love their food though), the service was the same as my initial review. They forgot to add avocado to my order and I didn't realize it till I had already gotten home. I also had asked for an additional side and the woman at the register gave a nasty look to the guy making the plated food -- guess someone wasn't doing their job correctly? None-the-less it made for an awkward moment. After that visit though, the other 4 were pretty good. They were very smiley and though it took a while to put together some of the salads they were apologetic and it made for some pleasant experiences. For 3 out of the 4 visits they forgot to add avocado to my order and unfortunately, again, I did not catch the mistake till I had already arrived home; which means I wasn't going to walk back. The 4th time I brought my order back to the register, where they apologized and added the avocado on. Mistakes happen and they were very pleasant for the 4 out of 5 visits I was there, so it's forgivable. =) All-in-all Dig Inn is almost there as far as the service goes. The food has ALWAYS been 4-5 STARS for me. As always, as the service improves my review will reflect this. Can't wait to be able to move it all the way up ;p. They are supposed to be changing from the Winter Menu to the Spring one. i'm very excited on trying the new menu items. =D read more

Pretty interesting place. Their style is similar to Chipotle but a little different- mainly in terms of that they are not Mexican, and they only make bowls (no burritos or tacos). They have 3 choices of bases (quinoa, brown rice, and greens) and then choices of meat, sides, and dressing. It is a pretty health place so it gets points for that. However, one downside is that their prices are too high for what they give. I admit that it is somewhat filling, but not enough for the price I'm paying. Another downside is that their place is really small and really loud. It is not advantageous to sit down and eat there. Overall I say it is a good place. Might come here occasionally during the year if I'm in the area and have the money, but I would not go out my way for it. read more

I've come here a couple of times during different times of the day. If you visit here during peak lunch hours (during the summer) it can get very hot and stuffy in side of the restaurant. Don't get fooled by the lines b/c they may look long but they move fast. I'm totally addicted to the spicy meatballs which I have eaten probably 4x in the past 1-2 months. If you get a small, it's 3 meatballs, a large is 5 meatballs. I was feeling greedy once and got the 5 and it was definitely too much food. The meatballs taste homemade, with none of the extra grease and other nonsense that may sometimes be in meatballs when you dine out. They give you a choice of rice or grain, I prefer the grain. My fav sides has been the sautéed kale with lemon juice, and the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese is on the heavier side so if you're not a fan of lots of cheese, try something different. I've tried the kale and pineapple salad, eh, it wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable either. I love how they have like 5 different choices of tea. My fav is the passion fruit one. If you dine in the restaurant you can have unlimited tea! I will definitely be returning and trying the other entrees. If you want a reasonably priced, healthy meal, come to dig inn!! read more

Dig Inn - Large spicy meatballs, kale salad & sautéed kale - New American Near Me - New York, New York

This is my first time here; I went for lunch. I had to try it since it just opened and every time I passed by on my way to campus it was crowded. I ordered the "small" plate with braised beef and one of their rice options instead of salad. The two sides I chose were beets with pumpkin seeds and kale. Overall, my first bite was delicious and the portion size was acceptable. At that point I decided I'd go back for dinner. I went back for dinner and ordered the same combination of food in the "big" plate, sans drink. I wanted to compare the two plate sizes as one yelper pointed out that the "big" plate was basically a rip off. So I came home and transferred all the food in the big plate into my small plate from lunch and it totally fit. The lid even closed without any bulging at the top. So while I enjoyed the food and will continue to go there, I suggest you get the small plate as you won't get much more in the big plate; it'll just cost you more. Get the small plate with a drink (their teas are good) and it'll cost $10.26, which is cheaper than the $11 for the big plate without a drink. As for their operation/service, the only suggestion I have is that they should ask if the meal is to stay or go. Right now they hand the plate to the customer and if you're having it to go, you stand in line waiting for the cashier without a bag or lid. You have to wait to get to the cashier to get a lid and bag, which is inefficient and adds time to the checkout process-ultimately adding to the backed up line. Therefore, if the meal is to go I suggest that instead of handing the customer their plate without a lid, they should lid the plate and send it to the cashier for bagging to go (similar to Chipotle). read more

Farm to table meets fast food. I had been recommended this place by a few people so I when I saw it was open at Columbia I had to go check it out. I came on a weekday afternoon around 2pm and there was no line. I feel like I needed directions of how this place worked, but luckily the man behind the counter was super nice and helped me out and explained how it works. Basically you get a grain, a protein, a hot side, and a cold side. The dishes vary by season, week, stock, etc. I got the farro with butternut squash, the roasted chicken, brussel sprouts with orange/citrus oil, and kale and granola salad. The farro and the kale salad were both absolutely amazing. The perfect mix of sweet and savory thanks to the butternut squash and the granola. The chicken was pretty solid and the brussel sprouts were average. For fast food, nothing was too greasy which is a plus. It's a little pricey, but makes sense for a trendy farm to table healthier take on fast food place. I don't know how healthy it actually is..but in my book I'll consider it healthy :) read more

Nothing fancy, but I like their food for the purposes of a quick bite. I've had their flank steak and salmon options, both of which are decent. Even the small plate gives you a decent portion; there doesn't appear to be a big difference between the small and large, so I would opt for the small. I like the fact that they have brown rice as a standard and they have a good variety of sides to choose from. Lines appear long but it moves quickly (reminds me of a healthier Chipotle). A decent option for a quick lunch if you're in the area, although I wouldn't make a special trip here. read more

This place was fantastic. New York City eateries can sometimes get carried away with complexity, trying to be original but simple is the story at Dig Inn. They seem to have a small set of ingredients that they use for all of their dishes, which keeps things from getting overwhelming. Everything is very fresh and you can see all ingredients in a refrigerator as you walk in. A good variety of meats includes chicken, steak, meatballs, and salmon. With a tofu option for vegetarians. For the sides, I had the Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes with olive oil, carrots with pesto, and a grilled kale salad. All were big portions with enough to take with me. The beverages available were brewed teas. Overall, Dig Inn is a bit on the pricey side but you get huge portions, the ingredients are fresh, and it's a healthy meal.
