Wow this is quite a lot of food. If you are looking for a good southern style brunch or lunch spot in the upper west side, Jacob's pickles is a classic. This spot just reopened after the old Jacob's pickles shutdown and they really changed the whole vibe of the place. It is much larger much more seating with open windows making it quite a vibe on a great summer days with good weather. We came in with a party of 6 and we had to order a platter of pickles and i ordered a hot honey chicken French toast. Service was nice and kind and understanding. They actually messed up my order first time through and brought out honey chicken and buscuits but understood after realizing the mixup, so my food took a bit longer to come out than for most people (around 25ish mins). As many reviews for Jacob's pickles claim, the portion sizes here are massive. That hot honey French toast is basically two separate meals and was quite delicious. The breast was nice and soft and the chicken was sweet and perfectly fried. I am also a fan of all things hot honey. While I wouldn't say this was the healthiest lunch option on the menu, it is quite filling and delicious. For the price, a great value option for a delicious meal. Will definitely be coming back for more!

This southern eatery in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in NYC offers fried chicken and biscuits, waffles, house made pickles and salads. We ordered for pickup to have a picnic in Central Park. I had the Shrimp and Endive Salad $28 with goat cheese, candied pecans, blackberries, pickled pepper and a honey chili drizzle. I also had one Buttermilk Biscuit $5. The salad was very unique. Everything was delicious.

Walking on the west side of the park in the way to see the Jackie O reservoir, Yelpers led the way to Jacob's Pickles. What a great spot with outdoor seating and a varied menu to suit all preferences. It's clearly a place for locals to hangout for an adult beverage and or meal. Our waiter warned us that the portions are generous and it was no lie! When I sat down, I eyed the wedge salad at the next table and decided that was for me. Now, what I didn't know was that it came with two large pieces of fried chicken that were moist and tender. Marinating in buttermilk will do that so I appreciate that extra touch. Half of the order came back with me for dinner the next day. Hubby got the big bowl of mussels and fries and enjoyed the order. He commented that they kitchen took the time to clean the mussels which speaks to attention to detail. He also commented on how big and tender they were. Our friends enjoyed their meals too. I highly recommend Jacob's and look forward to coming back. It's locals which is refreshing.

My family and I came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We made reservations about one week in advance, and while there were tables available, we had limited times to pick from. We shared a platter of pickles. I had the veggie cheese omelette, which contained mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, and cheddar. It's usually served with home fries, but I swapped them for fresh fruit. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. It was someone's birthday in our party, and at the end of the meal, they brought out a biscuit with ice cream for the table. Great service!

While I've heard so many positive reviews about Jacob's Pickles, I was left a little disappointed. I ordered off their seasonal menu and got the blueberry and lemon pancakes. We all agreed that K "won" since everyone else's meal was subpar. The biscuits and gravy were soggy and cold. The other meal had tough chicken and undercooked potatoes. Our server was so sweet but didn't check on us often despite the restaraunt being fairly empty. I did hear they recently relocated- and this new location is much more spacious compared to the last!

There comes a time in one's life when you violently crave pickles. So what do you do? You bring your ass here and eat a delightful amount of damn good pickles. Be warned entrees are large and addicting. Fried chicken was bomb and reminded me briefly of fried chicken from the south. Interior was pretty. Service was phenomenal. Drinks hit. What more could a girl ask for?

So I made a return to the newest location and found my experience to be ok, compared to my last. I just don't know about this one. It was some hits and misses with the food. The service could have been better and our table placement also should have been better, being that we did make reservations. The options on the menu, weren't that interesting to me, it took me quite a bit of time to order. Anyway something about this visit just was off and I didn't leave fulfilled, like my last visit. Maybe because the food I had just didn't blow me away like the last visit. The best thing we had were the ribs and the pickles. The chicken and biscuits, my guests and I were not crazy about and the devil eggs were bland. I don't know if I would return. So I would still do a thumb up, and a Happy Yelping too!

Took my mother here sometime last month as a Mother's Day celebration. Really enjoyed ourselves. The mushroom gravy, chicken and biscuits dish I had was phenomenal. My mother really enjoyed her spicy salmon, rice and vegetables dish. The drinks and our server were exceptional. HOWEVER, I was accidentally charged for an item that we didn't receive. I made multiple attempts to get this resolved and to no success. Although I've been told it's been resolved. Considering the great time we had here, this really sucks to have to add in this review. Really would love to give 5 starts otherwise.

You don't have to love pickles or pickling but you should! Their Pickled Sampler which includes: 3-4 different types of pickles, String Beans, Carrots, Beets and Jalapeños is exquisite! It's a lot, very shareable! Shared with table of six (6) & STILL had to take home leftovers. Deviled Eggs are pillowy clouds of savoriness. Smoked Okra and Chiles are a must! With slivers of smoked Garlic to accompany and enhance. The Maple Chicken (Tenders) and French Challah Bread were humongous and enough to feed an army! The Grits and Collards need help, hence the 4 versus 5 stars. Grits need to be a more coarse stoneground versus the Cream of Wheat texture with more salt to give flavor! The Collards that are combined with the Black Eyed Peas need the Smokiness that was in the Peas, along with a finer cut, a tad more salt and more stewing for that real Pot Licka'! If you're doing Southern, it must be all-the-way RIGHT! The Smothered Chicken and Homemade Biscuits and the Regular did need the sauces to take the flavor UP (from Barbecue to Buffalo.) The Elote (Grilled Corn) with Pickled Jalapeños was slammin'! The Homemade Biscuit Special was Blueberry Lemon, which was turned into a warm Bread Pudding, topped with Vanilla ice cream. The portion was enough to share with our Table of 6, with a bit leftover. Street parking only so Sundays are your friend. Service is exceptional, swift and personable. For large parties, you must check-in with at least 3. JP is a definite NY must!

I come back to Jacob's Pickles again an again and there are many reasons why. The first: the staff has been incredible every time: so kind, attentive, and welcoming, despite the fact that it's a pretty big restaurant and has been decently busy every time I'm there. Secondly, it's beautiful. I love the classy, modern, warm aesthetic of both the inside and outside dining spaces. Third, the FOOD (duh). The portions here are huge so you're almost always getting two meals in one. This time, we ordered some fried pickles (a classic-$15) with some sriracha mayo (yumm). It's the perfect crunchy, salty bite. Then, I got the original chicken sandwich ($22) which just falls apart in the best way. The chicken was juicy and tender and I left in a food coma.

When I say I am a long time pickle lover and have grown up in the South to know good southern cooking. I want to Marry whoever Jacob is because this is my next brunch staple on New York. The pickles were delicious the biscuits in gravy is better than your grandma's. Don't get me started also on the root beer. My one complaint is that the root beer is $5 a glass but that's okay because it is worth it and I don't need to drink a gallon of root beer. Got in with barely any wait time on a Sunday no less. I would make a reservation next time I go because it was very packed. If you like good food or love pickles this is the place to go. Can't wait to go back

Wish I could give 4.5 stars, but rounding down! Came here for a late dinner with a group and was seated immediately. Our server was so nice and helpful throughout the whole meal. I got the jam jar to drink, which was delicious and a great size for the price! I also got the classic mac n cheese. While good, it was a little bit too dense and rich for my personal taste. Would love to come back and try more of the menu!!

    Michelle L.

Met some ladies here for a late lunch on a Friday. Our server was super cute and informative. I ordered the BBQ Smothered Pepper Jack Chicken. The chicken was crisp and good. I didn't care for the biscuit on the plate (it was dry) or the cheese grits (they were cold). We had a dessert that was very large but not so great. You know I usually love my dessert. I'm glad I got a chance to visit.

Jacob's Pickles Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Jacob's Pickles

I love all of the food there. Exactly what kind of pickles are 'Special sours"? Can they be bought…

I'm not sure what they are. They just might be sours. Their pickles are delicious but I don't think they can be bought on line. Why not check their website?

Are the meatballs beef or are there other meats in them as well?

Ah man I actually don't know. I would assume they are beef

    Do the biscuits contain lard?

    No, they don't.

Are the banana pudding pancakes a permanent addition to the menu? Please say yes! 😂

I think I wrote for the wrong pickle store. The one I was writing about is in Clinton,nj. Sorry

What are the chances of scoring a table for 4 at noon on a friday?

High - they are not too busy during the day

Do they have a Happy Hour?

    Do you have bottomless mimosas?

Hi Anna I'm pretty sure they do not offer that. It's by the drink

    Can my dog join us?

Yes, they have covered, heated outdoor seating that's very nice and your dog is definitely welcome. I saw other dogs in there during my visit.

Is the brunch menu only for weekends? Do you serve food in the morning on weekdays? Where's the non-dinner menu?

I'm 99% sure it is everyday

I have a picky child, is there a kids menu or will see have to be creative with the regular dinner menu?

There is no kids menu. I recommend sharing an item from the menu as the portions are large enough to share.

Do they have heaters for outdoor dining?

    Yes, they do!!! (:

    Is Jacobs pickles dog friendly?

They have outdoor seating, that would be your best bet. Inside it is pretty cramped and not much room for pets.

    What time does brunch end?

    4 PM!

    What are the vegan options?

Most of their pickles, a few of the starters like fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, okra & chiles, and a few of the sides like house fries, house salad, side of fruit.

Is there even one single vegan option? EDIT: besides pickles

All the sides are vegan except for the Collards & Black Eye Peas because that's cooked with pork shoulder; and the biscuits. I'm not sure what the Fried Pickles and the Fried Green Tomatoes are fried in though.

Are the mashed potatoes gluten free?! (Or can be made GF without gravy?)

Hi Ariel, thanks for reaching out! Our mashed potatoes can be made gluten free without the gravy. Hope you’ll be able to join us soon!

    Do they deliver?

    No!

Is brunch still served on weekdays?

    Yes

Can i make reservations for 2 people?

Thanks for your interest in joining us! Although we do not accept reservations for parties less than 6, we do reserve the majority of our dining room for walk in guests. You will receive an estimated wait time when you place your name on the… Read more

    Are there any vegetarian options?

Yes. Although it's overall meat heavy menu, for brunch there is plenty of veggie omelettes, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, all available. Dinner, however would be much more disappointing for a vegetarian as there are very few options.

Time for a stomach reset!…read more This restaurant is not for those who are sensitive to flavor and spice. If salt and pepper are the only two spices you can handle, this is not the restaurant, rather not the cuisine, for you. Thai food is based on a multitude of factors. Colors, variety, and spice. What I got here reflects all of that, even if my pictures show a large shade of brown. My first item is the Kao Soi Ped, a coconut curry noodle soup with duck and shallots. I was incredibly afraid to eat the whole thing because coconut curry is a natural laxative. However, the dry noodles and crispy (and rather tasty) duck probably saved me from potential embarrassment. The dish evolved from a chow mein into almost like a duck ramen, which actually made it fun to eat despite the insane flavor bomb it packed. My go-to at any Thai restaurant is a Drunken Noodle, better known as a Pad Kee Mao. It carries quite a punch to the mouth in flavor. There is also plenty of variance on the plate with ample noodles and chicken. The amount of vegetables to protein to noodle is appropriately proportionate to each other. Not one piece of this dish is out of place. The spice also countered the richness of the curry and to my surprise, I finished the whole thing. I never go to a Thai restaurant without ordering a Thai Iced Tea, and this one does it as well as one can make it. My advice is to order it and save it for later, when the heat and flavors need some temperance from taking over your stomach, throat, and later, perhaps your bowels. For Upper West Side standards, this is par for the course in terms of price and value. It is also close by the 1 train when it comes to convenience, but keep in mind the kitchen closes for a bit as the restaurant shifts from lunch mode to dinner mode. Good thing the restaurant is not far from a few distractions to keep you entertained if you want to dine here but do not live in the neighborhood. Or you could just plan your trip accordingly like any normal person and stop in after 4:30 pm if you want to come here for dinner. Enjoy the experience.

We sat at the bar to have a drink while we waited. He returned a few minutes later to tell us her informed by the older woman working there (not Nina based on pics from their website) we couldn't sit outside if we're just drinking. We explained we wanted to eat, but for now while waiting we'd have drinks. And then we sat there. Waiting. 15 minutes went by and we finally were able to order drinks waiting for the table to be cleaned. We saw a party of 5 enter and speak to the woman about having our table. We said to the man we're waiting on that table and he said yes its yours no need to worry. Next thing we know the woman sat the other party at the table we waited 22 minutes for. We pointed this out to the man. He was silent and didn't know what to say. I got up and went outside to the woman and explained we'd been waiting 22 minutes for that table and she needed to move them and explain they were sat in error. At first I could see she realized her mistake, then she said she would get her manager, then she said they actually were here before us. I said no they were not, we've been here all this time and they just arrived. She kept saying they were here first but they were not. I walked away from her done with this stupid conversation. We told them we were leaving and the man said "sorry". Nina - if you read this you need to train your staff to do better. The restaurant seemed understaffed and the two people working there are not communicating and seem like they do not know what they are doing. We ended up going down the street to Polanco Social where we were sat outside immediately, had amazing service, great food, and ended up chatting with the kind owner who bought us dessert on the house!
