Burrata with Tomato
Caitlyn F.

Walked in and was able to get seating outside! The inside looked super cute and would love to make a resy in there one day. The food overall was solid, the pasta was cooked well, but I feel that the bolognese could have had a little more flavor. Service was just okay for me, our waiter wasn't friendly and seemed to just want to take our orders and leave. Overall, would come back to sit inside and try other items on the menu!

Happy hour $27 bottle of rose

Just came for happy hour on a Sunday...HH is everyday which is amazing?!!! $27 bottle of rose and people watching so awesome. Thought service was fine but didn't order any food. Was given lots of information from Fernando on the menu so will be back! Seemed liked the popular item was a frozen espresso martini!

Anna and Andre were a delight. Great experience and the food was amazing. Thank you!

Really enjoyed the option of indoor or outdoor seating. Sat just inside from the outdoor seating and made the atmosphere engaging with the bustle of the restaurant and the city night. The service was quick, started with some bread and the food was delicious.

Came here for happy hour on a weekday. Whether you sit at the bar or at a table you have to be seared by the hostess, which I can imagine what that is like when they are busy. The decor is dimly lite clean aesthetic vibe. Got the frozen espresso martini which is strong in the espresso and weak on the alcohol, the serving glasses for these are smaller than average so be aware you don't get much for the price point. It definitely left me with a brain freeze, I liked the concept of the straw that you can eat. The spicy martini was good and had a bit of a kick. The oysters came with ketchup which I found very odd and an odd onion/tomato sauce, I would have preferred the classics. Service was good, the waiter checked in on us.

Pappardelle Cinghiale

Initial impression of Canto was great - beautiful interior with a nice intimate atmosphere. Then, it kept losing rating points as the meal went along... First of all, in terms of service, our waitress was quite pushy and was rushing us to make a menu choice in a rather unfriendly way. Then, they only brought us the salt and pepper after we were mostly done with the meal already. They also never even asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. As for the food, I ordered the Pappardelle Cinghiale ($26), which was a generous portion size with a good amount of tender and tasty wild boar meat. However, the actual pasta itself was very mediocre. The sauce (Tuscan wine sauce) in particular was rather watery and tasteless, which really took away from the dish as a whole. I also tried the Green Pappardelle Al Frutti di Mare ($28), which had seafood in it. The spinach pappardelle was a bit better than the other one, but the seafood was average quality at best. The complimentary bread with tomato sauce was pretty good though. Overall, the nice environment is really the saving grace here, but with this kind of service and food (for the price), I probably will not be returning.

Made last minute reservations at Canto and am honestly so disappointed in myself for suggesting this restaurant... Outside of the service, everything about this restaurant was mid. Everything lacked flavor and it reminded me of why people think Italian food is insipid (gre word lol) or lackluster. I could have had a more inspiring and flavorful meal at home, so very disappointed. We ordered Calamari, kale salad, and french fries to start. Calamari wasn't properly battered and didn't feel fried at all. Also for some reasons apples were fried and included in the basket... the Kale salad wasn't actually good, but lacked enough toppings. And fries were fine. For our mains we got the Carbonara and we couldn't find the other main on the menu, but both needed a boatload of salt/pepper added. I haven't been disappointed like this in such a long time.... But the water, complimentary bread, and service was great!

It was my first time at this canto location, we stopped in for drinks. The bartenders were absolutely wonderful, especially Andre! It was Valentine's Day and the restaurant had decorated the place accordingly with tons of red and pink decor. They have happy hour daily, including their frozen espresso martini which is my favorite. Their regular espresso martini is also perfectly done. We snacked on some truffle fries, which were good but not a must-have. Overall, I like the place and the people. I really love the frozen espresso martini. Will likely come again.

I came during happy hour on a Saturday, one hour before having to leave for the airport, to try one thing and one thing only: their frozen espresso martini. It was definitely worth it.

Perfect place before visiting Lincoln Center. Such a balanced flavors. Amazing Thursday night with great food and "Turandot". It would've been better experience if servers were a bit more attentive though...

Apple tartlet

I really liked it here! I was just waltzing around the UWS and told myself I would just eat at wherever looked good. I walked by Canto and thought it looked interesting so there I was solo dining at the bar. They have some pretty neat decorations for the holidays. I got the fettuccine ai funghi with a medium rare steak for my meal and a raspberry spritz mocktail. Both were really good and hit the spot! The food came out quite quickly. I got the apple tartlet dessert which was pretty good, although I wish the tart was heated up a little more to contrast from the cold gelato. Other than that, service was good and I overall enjoyed my time here. I spent $86 here inclusive of tax and tip for my little solo date that night. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my peers and I would be interested in coming back to try other things on the menu!

Outdoor seating with blankets and heat lamps.

We stopped by Canto on a whim last night after a movie and were able to be seated outside immediately. The weather was a bit chilly, but our table had a heat lamp, and we were provided with blankets, which was super cozy and nice. I didn't really have any expectations - just wanted a decent bite to eat - but everything we had was delicious! I had the branzino, which was cooked perfectly and was served with a zesty, lemon-cream sauce, mashed potatoes, and spinach. So good. My partner loved his lasagna. I paired my meal with a wonderful glass of Super Tuscan. For dessert, we had tiramisu and cappuccinos. The coffees were great. The tiramisu was served as a square cake and a good size for a party of two just looking for a few sweet bites. It wasn't the boldest tiramisu flavor I've had, but definitely a tasty version. I liked the moist, cakey ladyfingers portion at the bottom. Came with a few strawberries and mint on the side. Everyone who works here is incredibly nice and the vibe of the restaurant is just really chill overall. Our server was friendly and gave good suggestions.

Everything tonight was DELICIOUS! The waiter, Mateo, was fantastic, attentive and made sure everything was all ok. We had raw oysters, burrata and prosciutto, beef carpaccio, lobster ravioli, and carbonara. A party of 2 and we were delightfully full. Not stuffed, justttttt right! Would definitely say this would be a spot I would bring people to, and it is a perfect date spot.

I liked how they organized the menu by country/geography to facilitate an understanding of the flavor profiles. I got two of the date & fig-flavored smoked whisky drinks and it was a well made, balanced, and very good. I was warmly greeted by the gentleman at the door (5 service there), which set a great first impression. However, as soon as I walked downstairs, it felt like the space had lost its speakeasy vibe. I was seated right near the stairs and could feel cold air from outside every time the door opened, which made the experience uncomfortable. I was also surprised to see how much the cocktail menu had been reduced. When I asked about it, the response was that "the place changed a lot." That's fair -- places evolve -- but instead of highlighting the improvements or new strengths, the explanation focused negatively on what the bar used to be. As someone who really enjoyed the former version, that wasn't reassuring. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves didn't make up for it. One of the two cocktails was simply not good. No one came back to check on the drinks, and when I asked for the check after about 20 minutes, there was no acknowledgment that I had barely touched mine or any inquiry about my experience. Overall, a place I once enjoyed and recommended now feels more like a standard dive bar where " Mixologist " were replaced by bartender and were fun cool looking and tasty drinks were replaced by " less complex cocktail ", lacking the warmth and attention to detail that once made it special.

They're experimental, whimsical, delicious, and worth every penny. My absolute favorite is Child of Light, and my BF's was High Frequency Device. The interior was dimly lit, with a couple of candles per table or counter. It's a perfect place for a date night. And while there may be a wait on busier nights, it's always worth the wait. We were sat at the bar once and were very well taken care of by our bartender, Nikola. It was a Sunday night, so it wasn't terribly busy. We chatted up a storm and he was able to create some drinks off the menu just for fun (on request). He also made my BF and me a couple of drinks to celebrate our anniversary too. It was dark when we entered the coffee shop but an ajar door gave way to the bar. The decor is a homage to the works of Nikola Tesla, which can be seen in the subtle electric theme throughout the space and the naming of the cocktails. The space isn't too large - the bar and stools take up most of the space but they also have some booths/tables. The place looks great. The cocktail menu is very creative - I got one of their seasonal mixes that was actually two drinks in one. The main cocktail was meant to be sipped first and they provided a small glass of beer to be sipped after. The name escapes me but it was very good. Since we had cocktails at dinner, we only stayed for one round. Service was good, and overall I enjoyed my time at Patent Pending. I would definitely return to explore more of their menu.

Lo and behold, she did have a table for us - as long as we were out in an hour and a half, which was just the right amount of time. Stepping into this place feels like you're in some secret, super special cocktail club. Decor is super high end, vibes are upscale AF. The cocktail menu is incredible -- and incredibly pricey, but truly worth it. I ordered the Valentino which was strong and sweet, really well made. The mint Moroccan tea gave the drink a cool, refreshing taste on every sip. I also tried the Silver Screen, the closest drink I could find to an old fashioned. It was interesting, there was definitely a hint of a buttery taste. Overall a really balanced bourbon drink. I walked in and found room at the standing tables. It somehow manages to feel both refined and relaxed at the same time. The kind of place where you half expect to spot Hemingway in the corner pretending not to eavesdrop. We started with half a dozen oysters, which were fresh, briny, and exactly what you want with serious cocktails. Crisp, clean, gone in about three minutes. For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. The smoked olive oil and blue cheese olive brought just enough savory drama without overpowering the glass. It was complex but not fussy. The King Tusk leaned more aromatic and layered. The vermouths gave it richness, while the Buddha's Hand and osmanthus flower added subtle citrus and floral notes that lingered in a really elegant way. It felt like a cocktail designed to be savored slowly. The music fit the mood perfectly, not too loud, just enough to give the room energy without killing conversation. Overall, it's a great spot if you want elevated drinks in a space that feels transportive without being pretentious. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm in the mood for a refined, slightly cinematic night out in Flatiron.

We walked in without a reservation around 6:20 p.m., and they were able to accommodate us at a shared table until 7:15. The menu surprised me a bit. Since I associated the address with Eleven Madison Park, I wasn't expecting to see items like wings stuffed with sausage, which were done in partnership with Jungsik. We ordered those along with the mushroom burger and asked them to cut the burger in half for us. The cocktail menu was creative and a little intimidating, with unconventional ingredients like cream cheese and green curry. I went with a fruity Hendrick's-based drink, and my friend ordered the spicy green curry martini. Both were good. Mine didn't taste very strong, but it also wasn't overly sweet because there was enough bitterness to balance it out. The green curry martini was more adventurous but still worked. Service was mixed. There was a woman standing near us, so we tried ordering food with her, but she seemed hesitant to come over. Maybe she wasn't a server or was newer. For drinks, she brought over someone more seasoned, who quickly helped guide us based on our preferred taste profiles. Her suggestions were very good. The mushroom burger was the highlight for me. It was a little salty, but the crispy mushroom and soft bun were a great combination. I honestly wished I had more than half. The wings were okay. They were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, but coated in a Dorito-like powder that made them very messy. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd come back, especially for the mushroom burger.
