Had a really great experience at Parm last night while in NYC. We came in for early dinner before heading out for the night. We were super excited about their extended happy hour and ended up getting seated by the nicest host. The restaurant was larger than you would think and very well decorated. Just what your typical Italian restaurant would look like. It smelled delicious, which made me even more excited to try their food. We sat down at our table, and our waitress came over relatively quickly. She informed us that happy hour was not where we were sitting, which is why I docked a star. Had we known, we would have chosen a different table but felt too guilty at that point. We started off with some drinks. Of which I chose a Moscow mule. It didn't come in a copper cup, but it was still good anyway. Good enough for me to order a second one. We started off with a zucchini and mozzarella sticks, which came out pretty quickly. The sauce to the zucchini was almost like a spicy mayo, and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the chicken francese. Someone else with our party ordered the eggplant Parmesan and my husband ordered the meatball Parmesan. After a little while, the meal came out and it was a ton of food. I stumbled upon Parm due to ads I saw on social media. I'm a sucker for some mozzarella sticks and decided to try theirs one day. Did not disappoint at all so I also ordered their regular wings. AMAZING! Especially with the red sauce that goes with it. Haven't had a full sized meal here...YET! But I do intend to eventually. Also tried their margarita on the rocks which was pretty damn good as well. Parm overall is cool spot to hit up solo, with a date or bring the friends or family outing. I first heard about Parm because it's a sister restaurant to the infamous Carbone! They make their pasta fresh in-house (which I think is a must-have for all Italian restaurants) and they use the same sauce as Carbone, without the need to make a reservation weeks in advance. I came on a Saturday night and was able to make a reservation the day of. I ordered the spicy vodka sauce rigatoni and it was great! The spice level is extremely minimal. Noodles had the right amount of chew. My party enjoyed their dishes as well, but the stand-out was the chicken parm plate because it came with so much food. We had a large group for a surprise birthday at the back of the restaurant. Our server, Kelly, was EXCEPTIONAL. Super attentive, always nearby and made our experience even better. Love their rigatoni carbone! The pasta texture is perfectly al dente and chewy, the sauce itself is very creamy and lowkey kinda tastes like mac and cheese but with a hint of tomato. Def helps to have like a salad or something to help cut through the richness as it gets pretty heavy. Lunch special is not a bad deal either - $25 for a side dish + main dish + dessert. As someone who is not the biggest Italian food fan, I was shocked at how much I liked this place! I heard this place was opened by the same people as Carbone so me a friend decided to try this place for dinner. We ordered fried calamari for our appetizer, the rigatoni with vodka sauce, and the chicken parm sandwich. The calamari was fried perfectly with some peppers and it came with a nice spicy mayo and some marinara for dipping. My friend said she loved her pasta and I really enjoyed my chicken parm. Parm was a very solid but not mind blowing Italian restaurant with classic appetizers and mains. The prices were pretty friendly for New York and the portions were overall generous. We ordered all foods family style and some of my favorites were the meatballs and the Caesar salad. We arrived at 6pm for our reservation for 5 people, and waited and waited. We were told "the people at your table aren't leaving" which completely negates the need for a reservation in the first place. At ~6:30pm, I went back up to the hostess (probably the 3rd time, at this point) to which the manager offered my party and I a complimentary drink while we continued to wait. Maybe 10 minutes after, we had gotten our drinks and were finally seated. 40 minutes after our reservation time. It's extremely chaotic and packed inside so be prepared to wait especially if you're a 4+ party. We ordered and the food came out super quick. It felt like our waitress was rushing us out the whole time; bringing the bill when some people were still eating, asking us if we wanted anything else, etc. As if we weren't already seated 40 minutes late. Anyway, I will say the saving grace is the food. The Signature Caesar is a great starter. It's crisp, fresh, and nicely coated with caesar dressing and parmesan cheese. Dare I say, I liked this better than Carbone's. The Mozz Sticks were solid, as well. The Chicken Parm Platter was incredible. I can understand why it's considered "the city's best chicken parmesan" as one of the signs on the wall indicates. Substituting for the rigatoni carbone was also the move! It was creamy, slightly spicy, and cooked al dente. It paired well with the chicken parm and was quite satisfying. We ended with Mario's Cannolis which were massive. They were definitely some of the better cannolis I've had but nothing to write home about. Given the wait time & service really putting a damper on our experience, and the food was solid, my experience was a 3/5 (2/5 for service & 4/5 for food). Sadly, among all the noise & people, I left an item of mine behind (don't think they found it). Anyway, if you're considering dining here, come at an off peak hour, order for pick up, or brace yourself for the chaos. read more
