Had to couple it with a late lunch bite, so beef Empanada of course. Warmed up just for me with a crunchy exterior, juicy beef interior. So delicious, you can almost never go wrong. Bonus star for not being a greasy mess! What caught my eye more though was something called Yuca cheese...what's that? I have never seen such a perfectly cubed item starring at me saying 'TRY ME'. This lovely item can be put on a platter with a spot light. Alright, maybe too much, but let's get real, I love yuca and cheese. Why not marry them together, genius! I decided to buy it not 100% knowing what to expect, but it was great! It's not like a Mozzarella cheese stick in sense of tight, pull of oozy goozyness. It was more of a cube of grounded/shredded yuca with a small cheese center, breaded and I guess baked. It wasn't greasy which leads me to believe baked over fried. Nevertheless, I'm sure it's like a secret family recipe with grandma in the back churning them out. Alongside endless Empanadas LoL! I would love to see if I can replicate such an item, but I'm sure it wouldn't be as good as the one made with love that day I walked in to try it. I encourage all locals, or even travelers like myself to try them out when in the neighborhood. It's totally worth it!

The salmon in my Jerk Salmon Bowl and my friend's Atlantic Salmon Bowl was flaky, tender, juicy, and perfect. The rices (white with Jerk, black forbidden with Atlantic) confirmed and celebrated what Chef JJ Johnson wrote in his must-have book The History of Rice. This is to say there is no rice like FIELDTRIP rice: soft, sturdy, sweet, savory, herby, attaches to sauce and protein and vegetables when you want it to, remains on its own when you simply want to enjoy it by itself. The plantains and greens that accompany are ridonkulous icing on the salmon sundae. If you aren't a fan of Brussels sprouts, you likely have good reasons. And, you owe it to yourself to order Crispy Brussels. Besides being cooked so they are toothsome, textured, and still sweet, they're quartered or sixthed, which makes them easier to enjoy and perfect carriers for the crispy bits that top them. I love oxtail. To enjoy this rarely served beef element in a perfectly wrapped and fried egg roll added to my adoration. After bite one, I literally unwrapped my half to see how the shredded meat was coexisting. No saucing was necessary, though the Avocado Cilantro and New Jack Sticky BBQ (both of which were enjoyed by me via spoon) would have enhanced the roll most righteously. Lastly, when you dine in or take away from FIELDTRIP, you need Nana's Bread. It is what you might enjoy if a freshly made flour tortilla, naan, pita, and focaccia met, joined, and were put through a presser. I would dip and dredge Nana's Bread in everything.
