    Italian Combo Hero
    Gregory C.

This place has been in the shadow of Yankee Stadium for quite a few years now. I've stopped in here a few times, always after a game, to get a drink or an ice cream. Yesterday, I went to the game with my cousin and he swore they make great sandwiches to take in with us. So I got the Italian Combo hero, and he was right, they do make great sandwiches. I will definitely stop in here again to get a sandwich to bring into the stadium.

Lunch while in the area for Bronx Civil Court summons me for a plate of hot platter of bland mesh unappealing and not enticing. This café contains a hot and cold salad bar sold by the pound where my plate cost $7.00. The server was adamant that any fish and chicken cutlet must be purchased as whole slabs not in pieces. Servers are welcoming as they waved to me seeking my attention as one stated "smile" resulting from exhaustion and dispirited. All in all and all in the food - it is very mediocre and overpriced. In the morning, daily, there is a large influx of NYPD officers attaining their breakfast here.

Yes they do. I bet when you go there you'll want more than a simple GC. Enjoy.

Fresh semolina hero hollowed out. The bread was so fresh and not soggy whatsoever. Then placed inside delicious, homemade meatballs, baked deli in the deli itself. I ate the sandwich in two settings. It was just as good the second time if not better. You can tell the sauce is homemade, not too wheat, but typical homemade sauce, a.k.a. gravy. The meatballs were tender, seasoned to perfection and did not fall apart. I just loved the whole presentation and the hero itself. The interior of Joe's is awesome, with the walls stocked with a great supply of Italian cooking fare. As you journey towards the deli counter you're immediately greeted with an offer to sample the fresh, house made mozzarella. Captain obvious pro tip: SAMPLE THE MOZZ To put it plainly, this was the best mozzarella I have ever had in my life, and I am someone who enjoys his mozz. It had a delicious milky flavor, was extremely smooth, and had a wonderful salt profile that took it to another level. It was truly amazing. I could go on about it forever, but in the essence of time... Our intent was to order 2 chicken parm heroes, but the man at the counter who gave us the mozz sample recommended the 'Brontese' and after reading the ingredients (Prosciutto diParma, fresh mozz, wild arugula, Sicilian pistachio cream, evoo, cracked pepper) I went for it. Needless to say it may have been the best deli sandwich I've ever had. The way the pistachio combined with the prosciutto and mozzarella-but didn't overtake it, was amazing. So to go along with my Brontese, we ordered a Chicken Parm, and a Bronx Bee (crispy chicken cutlet, hot honey drizzle, fresh mozz, sweet soppressata, hot cherry peppers, baby arugula) and loved them all. Outrageous value as sandwich prices are extremely reasonable. Awesome experience at Joe's. The staff was incredible...helpful, kind, and went out of their way to talk food with us. The location and atmosphere were perfect. And the food....you have to try it to believe it.

I wish they put more roasted peppers to give more flavor. There are several cutlets in that sandwich. Maybe trade one cutlet with more red peppers to add sweetness to the sandwich. I didn't taste any vinaigrette as described on the menu. I also had Con Ed: prosciutto, eggplant, arugula, mozzarella , sun dried tomatoes. This sandwich is tastier than DSNY. I recommend this one. The guy who helped me in my opinion was a bit pushy. He gave me a sample of cheese. It was really good. It reminded me of L'amuse Gouda. It's sweet, savory, like butterscotch. He tried to sell me a big piece. I asked for a small piece. He cut me almost a pound. I recommend to be more specific about the weight.

From the moment we walked in, it was all that I wanted- reminiscent of the Italian shops and delis my parents would take me to when I was a kid. The ambiance told me right away that the sandwich I sought (the 'Casa') was going to be good....as did the two guys in line ahead of me, one who went so far as to say it would be life changing. Service was great- super helpful and patient as we perused the counter. Wanting to be thorough () we ordered two Casa's....one on Ciabatta, and one on a hero. First off....both bread vehicles were incredible. The hero was crunchy on the outside, perfectly soft on the inside, while the ciabatta was perfectly thin (allowing you to fully enjoy all of the fresh, delicious ingredients), with a golden crust. Just perfect. Oh yeah- the ingredients.... The Casa is filled with perfectly sliced prosciutto, house made mozzarella, sun dried peppers, and balsamic glaze. The balsamic tied everything together beautifully and was a wonderful touch to the sandwich, while the mozz....well...I'll say this... If you ask 10 people on Arthur Ave who makes the best Mozzarella around, and a good number of people are going to tell you it's Casa Della. And I'm here to tell you that their Mozzarella is the truth. It's delicious, creamy, flavorful...it's the kind of stuff that will have you standing in front of the establishment, Casa in hand (and mouth) without a care in the world, or whether or not people are staring at you while you scarf or down. It's that good. Also- prices are extremely reasonable, and you receive a ton of value for your dollar. Casa Della Mozzarella is not just the Casa. They are a fully loaded market and deli, loaded with everything you need, whether for a quick lunch on the go, or to supply dinner or your fridge at home. Definitely a can't miss, must check out spot.

There's only small space for one person to stand so it's very difficult to exit while there are people behind you. I highly recommend coming here early before the crowd.
