We were in the area for a visit to the Botanical Garden and wanted to have lunch at a good deli, given the fact that we were in town from the west coast and don't find authentic Italian delis very often near us. Tino's hit the spot...here's why: - Incredible sandwiches! My wife and I split both the Eggplant Parma Hot Sandwich and the Tino's Combo. The bread was so good, as were the fillings. The eggplant sandwich was probably our fave, but we go back and forth on that a bit. - There are a few tables inside so that we could sit and eat there. I'm going to a 7PM Yankee game with two other guys. I figured, lemme get some of that outrageous Bronx pizza before the first pitch. Somehow there was no traffic and I breezed into the Bronx? Yelp has the restaurant opening at 4:30, lemme grab a beer and wait. Well the restaurant never opened. One guy from Boston just shakes his head, Bostons Little Italy is never closed. And Rice hit 3 home runs on Saturday, silence! We're parked in front of Tino's Delicatessen. My other buddy says, what's this place? It's a deli, I said. Kinda like a grab and go. He peeks inside and said there's Ravioli?! I walk inside and see some Harry Potter stuff happening. Yes, straight through the middle of the store is a deli case with lots of prepared foods. But I spy with my little eye a wood burning pizza oven? They also make their own mozzarella? I'm down to clown, it's wood fired pizza or ball park hot dogs so I ordered a spicy pizza and sat down at the community table. The staff is fixed on the soccer game on the TV. So Tinos is a deli but also a pub? Right on man. My pizza comes to the table, I can see they got it down. Nice crust with little charr, solid sauce and homemade cheese. Tino's has the best selection of high quality imported extra virgin olive oils , pastas, and other imported pantry goods and the absolute best tomatoe sauce and vodka sauce. Rosa's vodka sauce is unmatched. Giancarlo is an absolute gentleman. They carry rustichella d'abruzzo pasta which is arguably the best imported dried pasta and very hard to find. read more

Got two sandwiches, the Bocca di Fouco and the prosciutto special with burrata and balsamic. The prosciutto here is really fresh and tasty. I would definitely come back especially because it's one of the only lunch spots on Arthur ave that you can sit and eat with some space. read more

Our first choice had a long line and nowhere to sit, so we took a walk around the block and bumped into Tino's. So glad we did! This is a full-fledged deli - you can select from their selections to make your own sub/sandwich/panini, or they have suggestions for them as well. I went with a hot ham, Asiago, roasted peppers, and spinach on fresh ciabatta bread. I had a few pepperdews stuffed with goat cheese as my side. Oh my yumminess! The bread was crisp and soft, the melted cheese paired with the spinach and sweet peppers was amazing with the ham. The sandwich was huge. The pepperdews were spicy and tasty. They also have a selection of gelato so we ended our meal with that. I chose the chocolate hazelnut flavor. They had several that sounded amazing. The restaurant has several tables inside as well as outdoor seating. It is a beautiful little spot. The aromas coming from their pizza oven and the back kitchen were amazing. They also have selections of pre-made selections such as eggplant Parmesan, meatballs, pasta, etc. If we had a frig in our hotel room we would have selected some goodies to take with. I love Tino's so much! There are so many selections for both eating in the deli and grocery shopping. I don't know much about the different types of Italian olive oils, vinegar, pasta, meats and cheeses, but the owners Giancarlo and Rosa always give me delicious recommendations to try. I also love that when I walk into the place, I feel like I stepped into another country for a moment. I feel so fancy shopping there for my Italian groceries haha, and still the owners are so down to earth and extra friendly! I can't emphasize enough how kind the owners Giancarlo and Rosa are. I have seen them interact with a wide variety of people, and they show such kindness to everyone. I'm from the West Coast and whenever I have friends visiting from out of town, I'll take them to Tino's just to meet Giancarlo and Rosa so they can get a real Italian American experience. This really isn't a deli it is a gourmet Italian market and restaurant. Delicious imported meats, cheeses, appetizers, gelatos, coffees.... It's not inexpensive but everything is well prepared and delicious. It's nice to get out of the crowds and sit in the air-conditioning and served. Tables were clean, counters were cleaned regularly and the bathroom was clean. John Carlos the owner came up and asked how everything was and as always it's delicious. Very hard to choose there is so much wonderful food. John Carlos's wife makes the eggplant Parmesan and other meals. His son is the pizza man and the fig Prosciutto pie looks tempting. We lucked upon Tino's while walking around. When we walked in the smells coming from their pizza oven were incredible. They had a wide selection of everything you could ever imagine from meats, cheese, pastas and more. I decided to have a Rescue 3 Specialty that had Honey roasted turkey, fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and roasted peppers on ciabatta bread. It was toasted to perfection and was incredible. All of the flavors mixed together tremendously. My sister ordered some pepperdews and was very nice and shared with me. I had never had them before but was very glad I tried them. They were very good. We ended our meal with gelato. They had a nice selection and allowed us to sample to decide which one we wanted. It was a hard decision as they were all delicious but of course I ended up with something with espresso in it. I decided to also buy some gnocchi to take home since my niece has a wonderful gnocchi soup that she makes. I thought it would be a great addition to it and it sure was. It was very, very good. Absolutely positively love this place. I have actually been here a few times throughout the years. This is the only place i buy sandwiches from in the area. I cannot put into words how beautiful it is inside. It's so clean and decorated so well. Everyone greets you, the people behind the counter, the person at the register and the owner. I love it here and I'm sure anyone else would too. They have so many items. I wish i could list them all but this would be the longest review ever. The have everything from freshly cooked food to imported items. It's a restaurant/deli/grocery in one. I normally get the Tino's sandwich. Its huge and very delicious. I love the roasted peppers that come inside with that amazing salami. I highly recommend it. My daughter and husband normally have a custom sandwich made of ham, salami, pepperoni, lettuce and tomatoes. I have also tried the tiramisu, it's so delicious and comes in this cut glass cup that i still have. The Lobster ravioli is absolutely delish, you buy it frozen here and make it at home. I have also gotten sauce from here and dried pasta. I couldnt recommend it enough. I will continue to come visit here. I look forward to trying different things with each visit. read more

It was a cool fall evening and we had worked up quite an appetite walking around all afternoon We ordered the eggplant parmesan and the "mouth on fire" hero. The food was good, not great and the sizing really confused me. The options were "small or large" for 9.95 and 10.95. I ordered the large which then got weighed and priced at 13.95. when I asked the cashier she said this was extra large, which was not even in the menu. Not a big deal, but still confusing. One of the best deli's on Arthur Ave and I love coming back here. This is one of those places you can go back 50 times and order 50 different things. This time I was in the mood for fried eggplant. I mentioned that to the guy behind the counter and he took it from there. He put mozzarella, tomato, olive oil, and some greens on it. The fried eggplant had good texture and flavor. The other thing that stuck out is the sesame roll which was fresh and delicious. People rave about the mozzarella here and it did live up to the mark. Awesome sandwich. They also have hot food if you are into that. My first thought was to get the chicken parmesan since it looked awesome. They also had eggplant parmesan. I will try it next time. When we came here after a nice day at the bronx I had high hopes... I love italian food and there are so many great place in little Italy in the bronx. While it was still ok I left a little disappointed. We ordered eggplant parm and a spicy italian hero. The hero was good (I would rate it as a 4-), there was too much bread for the amount of meat they placed and the sandwich was a bit dry as well. The eggplant parm was just ok (about 3 stars) it was a bit cold. There was some confusion on the price as well which I did not appreciate. The atmosphere was good and the staff was friendly. Overall, this place was not bad but I would only return if I was in the area and there are better options. In this area there are lots of other good options so I am unlikely to return. This gives it a 3 star in my book. read more

Stopped in for some gift snacks and the owner is one of the sweetest people. Picked up a very interesting torrone with Strega that wasn't really found in other shops. Brought home ravioli, tortellini, and homemade vodka sauce. It's very tasty and the ravioli is so packed with cheese. Even had a cappuccino to sit and enjoy for a bit. The people are wonderful and the atmosphere is welcoming. Haven't had a sandwich there yet but you better believe that's my next task. read more

I'm being generous with two stars because I know how good they USED to be. Come on Tino's, what's going on with you guys? For years we at P.S.23 have been ordering from you guys, I'm talking about over 10 years. I understand that prices have gone up, but my favorite salad went up from $13 to $15 in a matter of a year. I would be ok with that, but the size is smaller, and it's no where near the same quality. The eggplant mozzarella rolled up salad normally used to have eggplant rolls, romaine, fresh grated parm cheese, green olives, roasted red peppers, and cucumbers. This time it only had eggplant rolls, romaine, and tomatoes. They also used to give 2 dressing pouches, now only one. After tip, this salad was $18!!! That is utterly ridiculous, especially if it was missing all those items. Shame on them. I'll also add, that in the past, when they make mistakes they are very righteous and do not remedy the problem. They are aloof about their mishaps. read more

But the bread is just okay, and you're bathing in the sandwich by the end -- it doesn't have the structural integrity that is the hallmark of the sandwiches at those top few places. Love this place! My younger brother goes to Fordham so at his last track meet we decided to take the quick walk over to Tino's for lunch. They have so many delicious options to chose from! I love this spot. When my family and I visit the Bronx's Little Italy, we just about ALWAYS head over to Tino's. We first got addicted because my husband used to work at a hospital in the area and it has become a staple in our dining routine. They have a group of people ready to take your order so even if you see a crazy line, don't be discouraged because they are orderly and take food orders very quickly. During daily lunch times, you may have difficulty finding a seat because a lot of people come here for lunch. As I said before, there is a hospital in the area, as well as a college, so there are A LOT of people who love their food. Fortunately, if it is a nice day, there is a park right next door so you can enjoy your grub in the sun. All of their food is FRESH and although I haven't tasted every sandwich, I am sure you can't miss with any type. Their food is GOOD! I usually get the food in the cases, like the Eggplant Rolatini or Broccoli Rabe. Sometimes the matriarch of this establishment, Rosa, make these wonderful salads, like Chickpeas or my FAVE, her Farro (Italian Barley) Salad. It is a nice summer snack. I used to drive all the way from Westchester just to get some Farro but she doesn't always make it. So I took the initiative and asked her how to prepare it. She gave me the recipe and they also sell the farro right there in-store so I started making it at home. So tasty!! They've started selling Gelato, also, and I can't wait until I have enough time to try some of that out. Aside from their hot/cold foods and sandwiches, they also sell some really nice Italian groceries. So many sweets. When you purchase your order, also pick up a Duplo candy. Came here before going to the New York Botanical Gardens. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the gardens. WAIT: You have to wait to order so that may take some time depending on how long the line is. Then, you wait about 5-7 minutes (longer if you get a panini or hot sandwich) for them to make your sandwich. Overall, not too bad but it's not as quick as Chipotle. ATMOSPHERE: The place is pretty large. For a nice day, they open up the entire front so you feel the breeze. There are chairs both outside and Inside. A few larger tables and a long table with bench type seating. Came around noon on a Saturday and it wasn't that crowded. I think most people were taking their food to go. When we left around 1:45 it was definitely more crowded. The left side is where you order, you should line up and then they'll help you one at a time. It may get a little confusing because people walk back and forth looking at the menu or options in the display case. Then, you can move over to the other side where you wait for them to make your sandwich then put it on the counter to pick up. Grab any other drinks or snacks and then pay at the separate cash register. FOOD: A lot of people get the paninis or hot sandwiches, but I wasn't quite in the mood for a crunchier sandwich. The sandwiches are definitely pretty big. Enough to share with 1 person and feel just satisfied or to eat all to yourself and feel adequately stuffed. TINO'S COMBO - your classic cold cut sub. Soft, baguette type bread with salami, ham, mortadella (sp?) and a mild white cheese. Some lettuce, roasted peppers and olive oil and vinegar give it a nice tart taste to cut through the saltier meats. It was pretty good! I liked the soft baguette roll. My boyfriend and I usually split a chicken parm sub and another sandwich. Root beer on the side as well (love that they have the old fashioned sodas). They have good seating both inside and outside. I've had a few things from here. The paninis are delicious. I've had la capricciosa panini and la nonna panini. The chicken is well seasoned delicious. Good sized panini, nice sized pieces of chicken. So price wise, it was decent. - "Side" Spaghetti with Mariana sauce $8.95 All we wanted was a simple chicken parm over a bed of spaghetti, something we thought would be ($12) but no, this place does not do that. They only have small, large, or hero orders of chicken parm, leaving us to order spaghetti on the side. This was not a side order, maybe the worker didn't understand what we meant but the order was huge and the pasta was very water-y. There was a decent amount of sauce but it did not stick to the pasta and instead, created a thin tomato soup consistency under all the spaghetti. - Penne Vodka ** with pork **($9.95) This did not sound bad, but it was! I was expecting a LARGE portion or at least 2 servings for that price! This portion was very small! (I mean it's probably how much pasta a normal person should be eating but I wanted way more pasta than what I was given.) it tasted very mediocre. I can make this myself using sauce from a jar, for 1/4 of the price. Overall, I was NOT happy with this prices of this place!
