This place has been a staple for a very long time. It makes really good sandwiches, although very pricey, but it's worth its weight in gold. I like that I don't have to go all the way downtown to get a hot pastrami sandwich from that other spot with all the tourists. This place gives more of an old fashioned diner vibe and the service is really good. They make the best Masa ball soup I ever had and I've had plenty. I say if you haven't been it's definitely worth a visit. Thumbs up and Happy Yelping!

Having eaten Jewish culinary delights all over the country, I still look to New York City as to where the bar is set and Liebman's Kosher Deli sets it pretty high! In the Bronx, what was once a bastion of Jewish delicasies, there are few if almost none left. Save for Liebman's, who is still carrying the banner and flying it high for delicious, high quality, old school, Jewish deli food. Katz' on the lower east side may predate this little gem by almost 65 years (Katz' incredibly opened their doors in 1885) but this place more than holds its own and for MY money, has tastier cuts of meat than the latter. The waiter service was quick, friendly and prompt by a few good service industry "old timers" and that lends even more of a nostalgic feel to the joint. The fresh cut fries are amazing and remind me of those thick, potato, French fries you used to be able to get on the Coney Island boardwalk from the random food places OTHER than Nathan's soggy fries. The meat is lean and well seasoned, the pickles are crisp and cold and even the COLE SLAW (which I almost never eat) was AMAZING here. Check them out, you absolutely will keep coming back.

This Restaurant is a staple to the neighborhood. The make my pastrami sandwich just right. The flavors are spectacular and it's worth every bite. I love ordering my favorites cuts to take home to mane my own sandwich's. Staff are like family everyone knows everyone. Place is old nostalgic diner homely and welcoming. I love coming here weekly for my sour pickles!

I was craving some pastrami So I took a ride to the Riverdale section of the Bronx. It was about a 30 minute drive Opened the hefty front entrance door. The man behind the counter said I could just walk back into the dining room I sat down at one of the spacious comfortable light green booths A young waitress brought over a menu. Lots of wonderful food. I decided on the half sandwich and soup for $20. First to be served a good portion of coleslaw and pickles. The coleslaw was very flavorful but not tart. The pickles were very crunchy with a good snap to them The sour pickles, were my favorite. But the half sour ones were quite good as well. Very good sized matzoh ball. Plenty of pieces of chicken and noodles carrots I did the broth test. Just tried some of the broth on its own. It was heavenly light flavorful, but not salty The chicken had a full flavor . The noodles were equally as good, not overcooked. Then it was time for digging into that matzoh ball. It was absolutely epic.!! Light and fluffy like a cloud. . It had a rich deep flavor. Every bite of the matzo ball was spectacular. I finished up every last drop of the broth In nearly 57 years, I've never had a better matzo ball soup!! My mouth was watering, when the pastrami sandwich arrived . Looking very good with the rye bread I took the first bite. It was just as good as it looked .I enjoyed the full flavor of the pastrami . Good amount of fat. Slightly smoky tasting . Very good bark. Not too salty. Thin cut. Great texture,. The bread was just the right thickness. It . supported the sandwich well. The mustard was really really good. Old-fashioned mustard with just the right flavor and texture. But didn't overpower the pastrami. The sandwich wasn't over stuffed. But plenty of meat . They do have an option of choosing over stuffed for an extra five dollars. But definitely not necessary IMO I also tried a Meet knish Corn beef mixed with pastrami. The knish itself was flaky and fresh not soggy. The corn beef and pastrami had a good balance to it I had to top it off the meal with a chocolate egg cream. It came out in an old-fashioned thick glass with ridges. It was bubbling, so I had it right away. Rich chocolate taste with the seltzer, perfect proportion of both the ingredients They complemented each other. Just like a chefs kiss. I drank it down to the very last drop. The service and atmosphere of the restaurant Was top notch . Music from the 50s and 60s played in the background The bill Very reasonable $43. A full pastrami sandwich would've been $25 Then $10 for the soup. But I think that the $20 for soup and half sandwich is a very good deal and would be filling for most people. My only disappointment was. This is the first time I've come I'll be making a return here in the very near future. I'd like to try some more of the side items like potato pancakes. Kasha stuffed derma. This is a real gem been around since 1953 They don't make them like this anymore. If this is on your bucket list, make sure to come here. You absolutely will not be disappointed.

You can taste 70 years of tradition in every bite of a Liebman's Deli sandwich. The moment you walk in, the delicious smells hit you. The food is fresh and absolutely amazing, with portion sizes that don't disappoint. The staff is welcoming and makes sure you leave happy. The restaurant--and even the bathrooms--are clean and well-kept. If you're ever in the area. GET SOME!!!!

Literally the best corned beef and pastrami sandwich I've had in my entire life. The pastrami just melted in my mouth and was incredible. The pickles and coleslaw were yummy as well. Service was nice and the shop is authentic. Would highly recommend!

    Liebman's Famous Hand-Cut Fries (~$10)

Ordered: Pastrami Reuben Sandwich (~$27): with sauerkraut and Russian dressing on toasted rye Liebman's Famous Hand-Cut Fries (~$10) Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray Soda (~$4) Aya's take: When you think of a New York Jewish deli, Liebman's should absolutely come to mind! The interior has old diner vibes and I was even surprised there was that many tables/seating available. These sandwiches are loaded with meat so we decided to share one. They're known for their pastrami so we got that on a Reuben Sandwich. The meat was stacked tall; they do not skimp at all! The pastrami was cut very thin and was a bit dry for my taste (compared to Katz's Deli for example). The coleslaw was some of the best I've had. It's not too heavy on the mayo, not too liquidy, not too tart - they've really perfected it over the years. I wasn't a fan of the toasted rye as it was super dry; I think not toasting the bread would've been better. The Famous Hand-Cut Fries were crispy, salty, and soft on the inside. Really nice bite! This was also my first time trying Dr. Brown's soda! The Cel-Ray flavor is celery soda which was so unique! It's basically a lighter version of ginger ale without the ginger taste. Very pleasant to sip on throughout my meal but not much flavor on its own. Good try if you're in the area!

Stopped here for a quick bite. The sandwiches are massive and absolutely delicious. The French fries are freshly made (maybe even cut in house??). I'm a Katz's fan but this place might be just as good, minus the crazy line.

What a food adventure today! I decided to get out of the apartment for the day and venture out to the Bronx to get myself a Jewish deli that I had heard about for a time. It was worth taking three (yes, that is right), THREE trains to get there from South Brooklyn. For those of you who are scoring at home, I took the F to Jay St, switched to the A, took the A to 168th St, switched to the 1, and then took the 1 to 231st St, where I took an Uber to the restaurant. Overall it took me about two hours to get there. Quite the schlepp I should say. Some people might argue that going two hours for a deli is insane. It is, but at the same time, it is about the adventure, not necessarily the food itself. The fun of getting there is what makes it great. All the train rides, going through Manhattan, just seeing all the people through your trip and passing by some beautiful views of the city. It made me all the more excited when I got to the restaurant, which is very much an old fashioned Jewish deli with only a handful of tables. Nothing crazy, but it was pretty busy for a Saturday lunch. That is a good sign if people are waiting for tables. I got in no issues. The food was actually pretty good! Not half bad for what I was thinking I was going to get. Their Matzo Ball soup might be some of the best in the city. It is hearty, and made as such that only the Bronx could serve it. Chunks of chicken, thick carrots, perfectly cooked noodles, and one matzo ball with great flavor. This is definitely one Matzo Ball worth getting. No messing around and it comes out hot. This is why I made the adventure. I also had to try the Pastrami, Corned Beef, and Tongue. All three meats are delicious. Melty in your mouth, mounds of it, terrific coleslaw to boot, a nice Russian Dressing, it was so good and so large that I had to take it to go to bring home for later. That way I will have part of my meal as a lunch, and then the next day have lunch as well. No complaints about that! As a side, I had to get some Kasha Varnishkas. A little bit heavy on the onion, but I was able to pick around it. The longing for this side was apparent because it also is delicious. It felt like the Jewish holidays all over again. This is something I cannot easily find, and yet this deli serves up a good one. Thumbs up for me. At the end of the meal, because why not, I got a noodle kugel. It is a nice portion, but I can pass on it for a future visit. It does not bring much to the table and comes in fairly hot. I should have gotten a cookie, but I can get those at a bakery in Brooklyn. There is not much to be missed for dessert. Going home was even more of an adventure. This time, I walked to the nearby (about 20 minute walk) Metro North station, Marble Hill (right on the water and plenty of railfanning action). It is about a 25 minute train ride to Grand Central, where I switched to the 4 train, took the 4 train to Atlantic Ave, switched to the N, ultimately taking the N train home. By the time I got home, I needed a nap. Between the travel and the good food, I needed one. Quite the adventure, quite worth the experience.

We Just finished eating our delivered meal. 1/2 sour pickles, matzo ball soup, huge potato knish, Pastrami, corned beef, cole slaw, rye bread, mustard & chocolate rugellah. Everything was just ok. The potato knish was huge but had no flavor. The Matzo ball was nice & soft but lacked flavor as did the soup. The rye bread was very fresh. The pastrami & corned beef was just adequate; not quite what i'm used to. The best of everything were the half sour pickles- nice crunch & flavorful & the raspberry & chocolate rugalleh!! This is the first time we have purchased from Liebman's Kosher deli & yes we are a little disappointed. However everything came packaged perfectly keeping everything cold & some items frozen & delivered as promised. We decided to try this deli & compare it to the other very famous New York Deli. We'll be ordering from Houston St next time.

Perfect bowl of matzah ball soup.

I've wanted to visit Liebman's for a long time and finally had the opportunity. After a 15-minute wait, I was seated in the middle row of tables. I was a little surprised how small the place was. Nonetheless, everyone was happy. I had the matzah ball soup, which was delicious, to start. I had a hotdog with relish and a meat knish. And a Dr. Brown's black cherry. I didn't order a sandwich but I could see they were huge.

Such a cute deli with diner vibes seating. This is my first time at a Jewish deli and we were overwhelmed with choices. We had to wait a like bit for seats but that's because we went on a weekend and they were busy! Staff was super nice though and always came to check on us. We ordered the potato kugel and pastrami sandwich which came with pickles and coleslaw. Their coleslaw is THE BEST. I think about it everyday. It's perfectly sweet and tart and is so addicting. We ordered coleslaw to go just so we could eat more of it at home. I didn't care for the pickles because I like sweet pickles and they were salty pickles but they were super crunchy and refreshing. The potato kugel is very yummy, especially their tomatoe gravy. The gravy made us keep coming back to nibble on the kugel even though we were so full. The pastrami is great! It's not too salty and it's not excessively fatty either. It paired well with their mustard.

    Are they wheelchair accessible?

Is it near subway &/or train?

15-minute uphill walk from the #1 train's 238 Street station. The good news is that once you stuff yourself at the deli with their overstuffed sandwiches, the walk back is downhill...

    Is Liebman's actually certified kosher?

not GLATT Kosher, but old school kosher- still acceptable to many observant Jews-but again, not all.

How does this compare to katz? Kats is very far from my location so im wondering for a decent spot?

Katz's isn't even Kosher, it is kosher style and they use non-kosher meat. Also, they are nowhere near as good as Liebman's, in any way. Cool to check out as it remains as it did for many, many years, and for tourists, but not for better food that… Read more

The food options they have available seem to sound tasty, like I wanted to order a special chowder they have available and I believe they told me the price for like an 8 or 10oz was about $30 bucks. I could be mistaken because I couldn't believe the price. My visit was for a drink so I decided to pass anyway on the food. I ordered a hot brown sugar cardamom matcha with coconut milk.
