This week (2/1/2026) I was so enticed by the sesame ginger salmon salad and also conflicted between the seasonal scramble with some of my favorite veggies and the open faced biscuit and eggs. This is a nice size coffee shop, where you can dine indoors or out. I do appreciate that they let you know right away from a sign they have posted, there is minimal workspace available to customers. So most customers seem to come for coffee drinks or to eat. The food options they have available seem to sound tasty, like I wanted to order a special chowder they have available and I believe they told me the price for like an 8 or 10oz was about $30 bucks. I could be mistaken because I couldn't believe the price. My visit was for a drink so I decided to pass anyway on the food. I ordered a hot brown sugar cardamom matcha with coconut milk. My cup size was an average price and although it was a good drink I found the matcha to be not strong enough. I added a little honey to my drink as well for a little sweetness. Came to Moss after eyeing it for some time! Pretty busy on a Monday morning (of course) but there was plenty of parking. The tables inside were definitely packed so to go it is. Staff was friendly, I was looking for a somewhat sweet iced coffee drink and she recommended the pumpkin spice latte. Iced pumpkin spice latte wasn't too sweet which was good. The chocolate croissant was tasty although I do wish I was given an option to warm it up. This cafe is definitely on the pricey end (paid $13) but normal for the Riverdale area. My drink was about the size of a tall Starbucks drink. Final thoughts : Bright, dainty and cozy place to catch up with one or two friends over coffee as the space is small. I user to really love this place, but the employees, one woman in particular, need a major attitude adjustment. I stood at the counter in a near empty cafe waiting to order and the woman acknowledged me and kept making drinks. I wasn't clear if she was cashier so I asked if there was someone working the counter. She gave me a totally nasty response and started throwing my food and drinks down like a child. It's great that you're hiring college students but not if they're going to act like babies about working. read more

I had the most delicious croissant at Moss Cafe. If you haven't tried it yet, it is by far the best in Riverdale and perhaps top 10 in the city. It is flaky and buttery with the right amount of softness and air. Light and delicate. It is also large enough to share between two people. If you haven't been to Moss, the tip is included in the price so while it may seem high, you can guarantee it is freshly made and workers are paid a fair living wage. Many other places either get such baked items shipped in or receive a frozen version to bake onsite...not really tasting as yummy as this croissant. 5 out of five stars. Such a great spot!! We aren't typically in the Bronx but have wanted to check this place out so when we were heading to the NY Botanical Gardens, we thought it would be the perfect time - and I'm so glad we did. I got the avocado toast which was super flavorful (loved the spices they put on it) and my husband got the yogurt and granola (he said it was great). The absolute best thing we got was the pastry (WOW), top 5 pastries I've ever had. We liked it so much that after we finished our meal we decided to try another, this time we went with the chocolate chip banana muffin (perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). Would make the trek just for the pastries alone! Also, we went on Valentines Day and they gave everyone a rose which was really sweet. The service was also super speedy! read more

First time getting take out from here. I ordered the gazpacho and the side salad. My friend got the shakshuka.I thought the gazpacho was quite tasty and had some crunchy veggies in it. The side salad was fine. My friend found the shakshuka pretty average. Prices are a tad high but I would give it another try when I'm in town. Moss Cafe screams chic like no other! Place is decked out in whites, creams and natural light up front. Plus it feels beachy, clean, but earthy all at once. There isn't much space to waltz around- but great use of the space, makes it cozy. With that being the case, Moss created a style all their own in Riverdale. I've had Moss mentally Bookmarked for a while- as I'm rarely on this side of The Bronx. But since I was in the nabe, couldn't skip it. By the way, you can't kill too many hours on your laptop here- but there's a designated time slot if you wanna power up. This is such an awesome cafe for many reasons. I mean...not only is style intact- but food is equally gorgeous to look at. FYI, there's no Poultry and Beef on the menu. And no pork either- as Moss Café is kosher. I'm happy with all that!!! At least 98% of their Menu is Vegetarian, with a couple of Fish dishes. However I'm sure you can customize any dish and make it Vegan. Weekday Menu is broken from 8am-3pm/3-5pm, Dinner 5-9pm, with Sunday Brunch and Drinks. Walk right to the counter and order up. Hot or Iced Beverages are listed on large butcher paper and menus are on clipboards. Menu looks fabulous and decided on the Sourdough open-faced sandwich with Ricotta, Strawberry Jam, topped with Pistachios and a dusting of Cinnamon. Simple and Beautiful! Afhgani Chai to start was what I needed at the moment. And when I saw a Hot Chocolate on the menu, it just took those 7 little words, "how do you make your Hot Chocolate?" When Tess said, "...Chocolate Ganache"......I was sold. Plus- I can never pass up on an opportunity to taste Hot Chocolate. I knew I had to hit Moss when I was in the area. Attention to detail goes above and beyond - plus service was so nice. I enjoyed both my light meal and hot Beverages. Our first visit, and everything was fresh, colorful, creative, and so nicely seasoned that I (who live for big flavors) didn't reach for the salt shaker or the hot sauce. My wife had an omelet that was full of veggies and colorful, also GF toast: she's a discerning eater but she delighted in every bite. (And bright-red iced hibiscus tea.) I chose the soup of the day, a roasted eggplant puree with tomato, feta, sunflower seeds -- a meal in a bowl -- and the seasonal pizza on socca (GF) crust, which had spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, feta, ricotta, and kalamata olives. My first experience with socca, and it was lovely. Also a delicious cafe au lait. Five stars? Hell, no. Fifty stars. Very clean place and very gracious service. We will be back. This was the place that changed my entire expectation of a nova sandwich from here out. Try it & you'll see what I mean. My food ("LGBTQ Sandwich") as it's called, was freshly seasoned & cook to perfection with a little salad that was refreshing & paired well. The establishment is very clean & staff is diverse and courteous - especially Sam. Only cona is the 3PM closing time & pricey. I see a few others felt the same. I refuse to return there. The first 4 times I waited over 20-30 minutes for tea that was ordered ahead. Staff will not check in and I saw people just walking in and being served immediately. Owner was apologetic but this was a consistent experience each time. My friend burnt his hand pretty good because they haphazardly capped his tea, which was way too hot. Great coffee and lattes, I believe blend is Stumptown. Pastries are consistently good, not sure if they make them on site or who the bakery is. Try the plum or plum and cream danish. Moss egg sandwich is possibly the best egg sandwich I have had in NYC. It includes some kind of sweet pickle in the sandwich which makes it perfect, plus a partly runny egg. Service is quick. You can call ahead. There is a bathroom and self-serve water with cups. I believe gratuity is included, which is nice and makes the transaction less stressful. Closed Saturdays. The servers were not friendly or helpful. Tables were never cleaned between diners (observed 4 tables not get cleaned prior to allowing new customers to sit). One of my colleagues lives in Riverdale, and since we have been meaning to get together and catch up for a while she suggested we try here. I'm not too familiar with this area but I have tried a couple of the restaurants. Moss Cafe escaped me however, but looking over the menu and Yelp page it looked really innovative so I was excited to try. As the name may suggest, Moss Cafe serves raw/plant-based foods. They're also certified Kosher which is definitely a plus in this area of the Bronx. The space isn't large - there are a few tables throughout the dining area and a back counter as well. The decor is simple but tasteful - mostly white walls with plant and moss accents throughout. There are no meat products on the menu, though I must say they do have a good variety of items and are really creative with the preparation and presentation. We all started with some sake lemonade. It tasted more like sake than lemonade but I enjoyed it. For food, I decided to start with the gazpacho. This was one of the more smooth gazpachos I've had, but the flavor was pretty good - not the best I've had but not the worst. For my main I had the summer panini which contained goat cheese (YES), corn salad, tomato, and basil all pressed on focaccia. The sandwich was good, there was lots of goat cheese which definitely the best part and pretty much tied the sandwich together. It was served with a multi-grain salad on the side which was also good. Service was good, our waitress was friendly and really attentive which was great. Overall I had a good meal at Moss - it's definitely not for everyone, but it's a new, innovative place which I'm always a fan of. I've been here twice so far. Staff is SUPER rude to customers and lazy to bus the tables so we can sit down and eat. They gave us an attitude when we asked the table to be cleaned. The food took over 30 mins for an egg sandwich ($18). My vegan friend asked the staff if they could use different tongs to grab vegan/gluten free pastry and they retorted back that every pastry here is cross containmented... Rude. Small little cafe/lunch that was recommended to me by a coworker. It is a place you can not only get a coffee but also have lunch. They dont have many tables but it usually isnt too crowded not to fins space. They have a sign that says no laptops but I dont think they strictly enforce it so that is a good thing. Probably when it gets very busy they start cracking down. I started with the chocolate croissant and honestly it wasnt my favorite. It wasnt bad but I dont think any chocolate croissant is bad. It was very average. Nothing stood out to me about it. For my meal I had the veggie rice bowl and it was good. It wasnt the biggest portion but I expected that. It had the perfect mix of veggies and dressing (tahini). All ingredients worked well and I left feeling healthy and satisfied. They also have wifi if you need it which is pretty standard for a cafe but certain wifi works better than others. The service was solid and I enjoyed my time here. Had passed this many times and never had a chance to eat. Tried the new Johnson Diner but it had a half hour wait so came here instead. Absolutely the right choice. Rose Latte was stunning with great form art as the barista is clearly exceptionally talented. Shakshuka was beyond delicious including amazing pita.
