Cortado & chai pudding

Cortados and lattes have improved since i wrote last review. Food and pastries are nice. Service is decent. One of the better places in this neighborhood. The closest cafe on Riverdale ave cannot compare.

Egg sandwich

My favorite cafe in Riverdale! I don't believe I've ordered anything that I have not liked. Good luck getting your hands on one of their biscuits! The almond croissant is probably just as good. They have one of the best salmon burgers I've ever had. They also have an egg sandwich that's to die for. The place is small so not much dining sit down area but the staff is super friendly and in the summer time you can sit outdoors. The perfect local cafe!!!

Rhubarb scone (bottom), media luna croissant

Cute little bakery in Riverdale. I love their baked goods, they have a few different things every week but the honey butter biscuits are definitely my favorite. They make coffee, smoothies and other food as well.

Decadant avocado toast
Mark P.

Easy solid four or maybe more if they weren't so uncomfortably busy. ....but it made for good sport, listening-in effortlessly on others' conversations instead of competing with my own. Otherwise, was okay, alright. I really enjoyed the avocado toast here and thought the hospitality, though rushed, was nice. Also dug the whole locally sourced thing they've got going on. Coffee was really good.

Pretty bad cafe in Riverdale. They charge $1 for refill coffee, which is pretty odd. They offer bibimbap but it's so inauthentic. We asked for over easy but the egg was completely over cooked.

avocado toast and the yogurt w/ granola

Such a great spot!! We aren't typically in the Bronx but have wanted to check this place out so when we were heading to the NY Botanical Gardens, we thought it would be the perfect time - and I'm so glad we did. I got the avocado toast which was super flavorful (loved the spices they put on it) and my husband got the yogurt and granola (he said it was great). The absolute best thing we got was the pastry (WOW), top 5 pastries I've ever had. We liked it so much that after we finished our meal we decided to try another, this time we went with the chocolate chip banana muffin (perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). Would make the trek just for the pastries alone! Also, we went on Valentines Day and they gave everyone a rose which was really sweet. The service was also super speedy!

Tea It Up~~~(Afghani Chai)

Moss Cafe screams chic like no other! Place is decked out in whites, creams and natural light up front. Plus it feels beachy, clean, but earthy all at once. There isn't much space to waltz around- but great use of the space, makes it cozy. With that being the case, Moss created a style all their own in Riverdale. I've had Moss mentally Bookmarked for a while- as I'm rarely on this side of The Bronx. But since I was in the nabe, couldn't skip it. By the way, you can't kill too many hours on your laptop here- but there's a designated time slot if you wanna power up. This is such an awesome cafe for many reasons. I mean...not only is style intact- but food is equally gorgeous to look at. FYI, there's no Poultry and Beef on the menu. And no pork either- as Moss Café is kosher. I'm happy with all that!!! At least 98% of their Menu is Vegetarian, with a couple of Fish dishes. However I'm sure you can customize any dish and make it Vegan. Weekday Menu is broken from 8am-3pm/3-5pm, Dinner 5-9pm, with Sunday Brunch and Drinks. Walk right to the counter and order up. Hot or Iced Beverages are listed on large butcher paper and menus are on clipboards. Menu looks fabulous and decided on the Sourdough open-faced sandwich with Ricotta, Strawberry Jam, topped with Pistachios and a dusting of Cinnamon. Simple and Beautiful! Afhgani Chai to start was what I needed at the moment. And when I saw a Hot Chocolate on the menu, it just took those 7 little words, "how do you make your Hot Chocolate?" When Tess said, "...Chocolate Ganache"......I was sold. Plus- I can never pass up on an opportunity to taste Hot Chocolate. I knew I had to hit Moss when I was in the area. Attention to detail goes above and beyond - plus service was so nice. I enjoyed both my light meal and hot Beverages. Owners here have everything down to a Science- even with the soft 'Chill' Music in the background. One thing's for sure......there's no shortage of endless bites and charming style.

Food is decent. Seating space is cold with cement floors, crowded tables and uncomfortable steel chairs. Oh, and screaming toddlers.

Busy place. Simple decor. Nice vibe. Good for dates. Not good for large groups as table space is limited.

Do they allow dogs at the outside seating?

I think so, b/c it's just the public sidewalk.

The place had many tables filled so I would highly suggest going there with a reservation beforehand. Despite there being a good amount of people service was quick and all servers were very kind and attentive. Our waiter Steven made sure we were taken care of and everyone else were very kind. Our drinks arrived promptly, I will say there was some inconsistency in how our drinks were mixed since one of the vanilla drinks was sweeter than the other but other than that all drinks were delicious. The food on both times that I've been here was delicious with everyone at the table enjoying their meal. I've yet to have a bad experience here. I would say if you are debating trying the restaurant, take the opportunity to as you won't be disappointed.

On this particular day they had a few food carts at the Clay Picnic Pavilion, accompanied by some very loud music that you might not expect in a bucolic setting. Even though we were starving, the lines were so long at each of the food carts that we decided to look elsewhere for nourishment. We ended up at the rather swanky Hudson Garden Grill in the NYBG. You probably should make reservations, which we had not done. But since it was past five and getting close to the 6pm closing time, we were still able to get seated. Service started out adequate but then slipped badly towards the end of our meal. Our server indicated that the menu would be changing the next week, which is unfortunate, because the corn fritters we had are no longer on the menu. These fritters were the bomb! We shoulda gotten a second round. Perhaps the zucchini chips that are now on the menu are as good. I had the Caeser salad with chicken. It was fine. The chicken was not mixed in or topped on top of the salad, but served to the side. JP ordered the Hudson (cheese) burger with fries. Both the burger and the fries tasted good, but that Brioche bun collapsed and fell apart in poor JP's hands. But you should expect that with the Brioche bun, to which just about every restaurant these days has a slavish devotion.

Rory Dolan was very gracious and accommodating, rearranging tables to accommodate the group. We had a section in the upper dining area to ourselves. There's an extensive adult beverage menu, with of dozens of beers on tap and on ice, wines, and liquors. See photos. The food menu had the expected Irish fare; shepherds pie, salmon, corned beef, and cabbage, etc. There were some Italian inspired appetizers and mains, even Korean flavors. Everyone ordered whatever they wanted off the regular menu. Service was impeccable, the restaurant has an inviting ambience. I noticed there were a lot of "regulars" there this particular afternoon. It's still a pretty cool "watering hall". They have live music on the weekends and they also sponsor local event events.

I was deciding between the turkey salad and the Chicken Salad Ciabatta from the lunch specials and asked our server how the chicken salad was, She said it was her favorite and that it was a lot of people's go-to, so I decided to order that. Our food came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Heritage Nachos, Loaded Tater Tot Skillet, Philly Cheesesteak, and the Chicken Salad Ciabatta. The nachos weren't really for me (I didn't love the type of chips used), but the tots were good and my boyfriend liked his cheesesteak. I absolutely loved the chicken salad sandwich and fries. I get a little fixated on foods I like, so I had honestly been craving that sandwich ever since. 3/14 SECOND VISIT: I decided to come back on March 14 specifically hoping to order the chicken salad sandwich again. It was much busier due to St. Patrick's weekend,I was alone, I was seated in a booth in the back. I was given the dinner menu, so I asked the server about the chicken salad sandwich I had previously ordered. She didn't recognize the sandwich but offered to ask the kitchen after I showed her a photo and the menu from my previous visit. Unfortunately she came back and said they couldn't make it. She suggested a grilled chicken sandwich, but I declined since I'm not really a fan of grilled chicken. I ended up ordering the turkey sandwich and asked for a few modifications (no stuffing or cranberry mayo, just regular mayo on a ciabatta). When the food came out, I immediately knew it wasn't turkey. I waited until the server came back and asked her to confirm what meat was on the sandwich. She initially told me it was turkey. After taking it apart & having a few bites I knew it wasn't turkey. I winded up eating the fries and asking for the bill. I decided to show her the inside of the sandwich again and asked her to double check with the kitchen, she returned and confirmed it was actually ham, even though the ticket showed that she ordered turkey. She did offer to remake the sandwich, but it would have taken another 10-15 minutes and at that point I was already over it. I ended up just paying, and leaving. I completely understand that menus change and servers can't memorize every item. I just wish the sandwich had been confirmed with the kitchen sooner when I questioned it the first time. Overall, my first visit was great, and that chicken salad sandwich was honestly amazing. I just wish the second visit had gone a little smoother.

To make matters worse, one person in our group didn't receive his meal until everyone else had already finished eating. When we brought this up to our server, she claimed she wasn't aware of the offer, and we ended up paying full price for everything. Overall, it was a frustrating and disappointing experience, with very poor customer service.

What a wonderful spot for you to explore…read more We wanted to take our friend out to dinner for his birthday he likes a low key style. We called a head since it was 6 of us to see if we could do a walk in or if we needed a reservation , and both options are available which is a plus. Dress attire is your choice we dressed regular nothing fancy just day to day hang out style. We were greeted kindly by the staff sat down handed a set of dominoes to play with while we waited for our food and drank some water. The place is decorated nicely and you can see the vision in mind definitely. We placed our orders and I'm not gonna lie I came in thinking the food was gonna be eh but I was blown away by the flavors. For drinks we ordered a spicy sunset, pretty young thing and cokes. The spicy sunset is a nice strong drink and is rimmed nicely with just the right amount is tajin as you drink it; it has a nice smoky after taste to it definitely was delicious. The pretty young thing was a nice citrusy drink with a little salty aftertaste, which balanced out the flavor nicely. The cokes were not water down they were good as well. For food we ordered the Cuban sandwich with parmesan fries, butter chicken wings, butter chicken macaroni and cheese, steak nachos grande, butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and mom's butter chicken platter. This was a wonderful Spanish and Indian style combination of flavors. Definitely my first time having this type of food and wow what a mind blowing experience. Not one person in the table complained or had anything negative to say about their food. We all tried each other's food and each bite we exchanged to try was delicious and better than the last . The Cuban was delicious but the parmesan fries stole the show from that meal it was paired so lovely who would've thought those flavors would've mixed nicely. The buttery chicken wings oh my God dripping with goodness each bite was legit finger licking good lol. The butter chicken macaroni very very delicious. Had a nice cheese pull and a good balance could not stop eating it. The steak nachos were delicious I wish It had a little more meat, but it was not bad. The butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries also delicious and the fries were cooked so nicely that it was crispy and soft at the same time per bite. The mom's butter chicken platter was delicious they gave the right amount of sauce, the pita bread was delicious and soft, the salad that it was paired with was good too the rice was decently portioned. Everything was definitely tasty. Not one complaint of any of the meals. We did not wait long for the food. Bathrooms were nice and clean. I want to come back to try more things in the menu that's how good the food was and our group agreed to also come back with us. This spot is definitely a place to try. They have a beautiful quote right near the bar that really spoke to us, especially during these times it said "you are exactly where you need to be." It makes you stop for a second and really take it in and just live in the moment ... especially living in New York, where you have to be always go go go fast fast fast. This was really beautifully written thank you to the staff who made our night and our friend's birthday special we'll see you soon.
