This was our first time eating at this coffee shop and we had a good experience. Our food was delicious and our wait time was extremely short. Prospect is my go to spot when ordering lunch at work. I've been in person twice, but I usually order from them at least once a week. They're more of a diner than a coffee shop, and their menu is extensive. They serve everything from burgers to Greek salads, tacos, rice and beans and Italian dishes. They're a bit pricey for the neighborhood. A grilled chicken salad can cost you about $12-$13 but you get more chicken than salad, so I guess that's a plus? Their delivery is speedy, and they usually make it to my job in less than 10 minutes. I'm not sure how hey make it happen, but I don't ask too many questions! Prospect is nothing fancy. They're great for a quick bite, or to satisfy your greasy food cravings. Their breakfast platters are also hefty and delicious. HORRIBLE customer service. My personal experience is that on three separate occasions I believe I was discriminated against while waiting to place an order. On each occasion I was ignored for several minutes, but then observed the counter personnel quickly attend to someone of Hispanic descent the moment they walked into the restaurant. The first time this happened I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, although I was standing at the counter and the other customer was a couple of feet behind me. I thought, perhaps they thought I had already placed my order? I let the guy taking orders know that I had not ordered yet and he behaved like he didn't understand me. He shrugged and proceeded to take the other person's order (who was still standing behind me). I would have walked out but I was placing orders for several people and didn't want to return empty handed. When I returned with the food, I mentioned what happened and discovered that several other people had similar experiences at this coffee shop. A couple of people commented that they never go into the restaurant for this very reason, and that they now only order delivery. Although I felt it was horribly unacceptable to resort to delivery service only (if I wished to receive non-discriminatory customer service), I acquiesced because there are very few coffee shops in the neighborhood. On the second occasion, I ventured into Prospect Coffee Shop for a cup of coffee and had the same experience of being ignored while they served the Hispanic customers who came in after me. I should have walked out, but I was intrigued to see how long this would continue. Finally, I recognized the delivery guy, walked over to him and asked if he could put in a coffee order for me - which he did. Thank God I'm a good tipper or he may have ignored me too... lol This morning I decided to give them yet another chance and (yep you guessed it) the same thing happened again. The counter woman ignored me for several minutes while I was standing front and center at the counter, smiling and making eye contact with any and everyone behind the counter. My "excuse me's" were ignored. However, this counter woman proceeded to take the order of the Hispanic man who came in several minutes after me immediately upon him entering the restaurant. I spoke up and said to her, "Excuse me, I have not placed my order yet and I was here first". She completely ignored me - even standing on her toes to look over my head and ask him what he'd like to order. The man moved up to the counter next to me. I looked at him and said, "Excuse me sir, but I was here first and have been waiting 10 minutes to place my order." He completely ignored me and began placing his order. I walked out and will NEVER again support this local business or give them my hard earned money. I will search for a local restaurant that values and treats ALL of its customers with equal respect. Please note that the restaurant was not slammed with customers during any of my visits. In addition, I have always been polite and courteous during my previous visits. Interestingly enough, after walking out today I mentioned this experience to a neighboring sales associate who responded that she and her co-workers stopped going to Prospect Coffee Shop because they experienced the same conduct. This is a diverse neighborhood representing various ethnic groups. It's sad and unacceptable to be experiencing this type of behavior in the 21st century. What has happened to me is clearly not an isolated incident, considering several people of color have shared the same experiences. Get it together Prospect Coffee Shop. read more
