I was in the area and stopped by Sangria Cafe in the Co-op City section of the Bronx. We always enjoy their fish nuggets, nice sized pieces of white fish that are fried to perfection. The portion is enormous, too! While I was there, I learned that the Cozy Cottage location we all know and love on Conner Street is no longer open. Instead, they are now operating out of the Sangria Cafe location. Yesterday was their first day of service in the new space, with breakfast and lunch starting at 6:00 a.m. I snapped a photo of the menu and wanted to share it with everyone. I'm sure the industrial area around the old Conner Street location will miss having Cozy Cottage so close by, but this move should make things much more convenient when it comes to parking and accessibility. Small eatery between Pelham and the Bronx. I've only ever gotten breakfast from here. The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich is pretty solid every time. Pancakes, bacon, and eggs are also very good. I do acknowledge these are hard things to totally mess up but it's also hard to do it just right...and cozy cottage does. The service is usually fast. The hostess are sweet. The inside is small. This diner has been open since I was little. They are located right outside of Co-Op City, on Boston Rd. It's kind of tricky to get to the restaurant if you're trying to drive and park out front. You would have to go across a small bridge into Pelham Manor and then make a u-turn to return so that you're in the same street. They have a drive through and parking lot as well as offer online order, delivery and pickup. They have all of your regular items like breakfast sandwiches, pancake, eggs, etc. They also have a large variety of lunch/dinner items, roast beef and meatloaf to ravioli and soups. There are daily specials and a Soup Of The Day. I've had their lemon orzo soup and it was wonderful. We usually get brekkie/lunch items, sandwiches and pancakes for the Little. If you're not sure, you could always order and wait. Most of their offerings are in plain view and behind glass. Not much is made to order. This is a grab and go type of establishment but the food looks and tastes fresh. They have some seating inside but during a rush, it may be difficult to find a table. Just be ready to order your food to go. They are always busy with plenty of orders coming in whether they're from in-person diners or delivery/pick-ups. You will seldom visit and not see a bunch of orders at the front, waiting for someone to claim them. We like to order and then pick-up. You might have to wait a bit for your food because it can be hectic but the food is always good, the staff is very nice and we've never had any complaints. I just ordered from Cozy, a hot Pastrami hero with deli mustard. This sandwich was right up there with Katz's pastrami. The bread was a seed hero was fantastic. The mustard was really good and the pastrami was lean and tender like butter. If you like pastrami, and you don't want to travel to Manhattan, forget about all those other bozos. The food is decent. Probably 90% of the time when I go there I get the breakfast which if you think about it is pretty hard to mess up anyway... Nothing to go out of your way for. Not impressed . I paid $16 for 5 pieces of chicken cutlet and maduros (sweet plantains). Fries were not an option although they have fryers. Seems this place has a we only offer what's prepared or cooked option. To make matters worse my food was lukewarm at best! Yuk, I hate when food that should be served hot isn't. Grabbed breakfast here while I was getting an oil change down the street. It's a little divey, but the food was good as any diner. Plus my friend didn't want to go to any of the chain restaurants next door. My omelette was large and the home fries were more than I could handle. Coffee was fine and the service was quick. It's really a hit or miss with this place when it comes to delivery. There are times it comes right away and others it takes almost an hour. A recent experience I had was I ordered food through seamless. Simple chicken fingers and fries. An employee of mine ordered from the SAME place about 35-40 minutes after me. She received her delivery 25 minutes later. As for me.... over an hour. I do not understand how I order before her and receive me food after. For anyone that is a loyal follower or fan of the eccentric TV personality Baron Ambrosia, Cozy Cottage in the far northern reaches of the Bronx is a must-eat destination. Despite my waitress not knowing of the sandwich named after him, they do have it, just make sure to ask the guy at the register, as it is definitely worth the effort. The place has an exhaustive diner menu of all the favorites, but you won't find this one on it. The Baron Ambrosia ($8.50) is melted Swiss cheese, roast beef, scrambled eggs, and a side of gravy to slather on. The roast beef itself is nothing special, but the sandwich is terrific. The sesame hero it is served on is delicious, both crunchy and soft, and putting gravy on anything usually leads to good results. The best part of the sandwich is that it is almost like having breakfast and lunch in one go, as the scrambled eggs, probably the odd-man-out of the ingredients, add your morning protein fix. And while in a New York City diner, you might as well wash your meal down with an egg cream ($2.50). The place is close to the highway and really does feel like a truck stop. Many people come in for takeout orders, staring and pointing at the steam table, and the owners, servers, and cooks are constantly barking loud orders back and forth. We were shopping over at the Fairway in Pelham Manor and decided to grab some lunch in the area. We popped open Yelp and noticed Cozy Cottage. From the pics and reviews, it seemed to be a greazy hole in the wall luncheonette (which I love) so we decided to head over. First things first, parking is murder. We had to park 3 streets away, and partially on a mini snow mountain. I assume most people are walking in because there are simply no spots to be found, at least when we were there. Something to keep in mind if you're driving. Upon entry...complete chaos. There were 2 waitresses alternately serving, cleaning up, and helping at the grill/prep area. Nobody mentioned if we should wait to be seated or not so we just grabbed a table. We were pretty much ignored for a good 10 to 15 minutes while we chatted and looked over the menu. No water, no offer of a hot drink, no hello. Nothing. I could not get their attention at all so I walked over to one of the waitresses and asked to order. We went with a burger and fries, mac and cheese, Western omelette, and some coffee. I also asked for ice water for everyone and a small cup of milk for my kid. Food took about 20 minutes to get which was a bit much considering the place had 10 patrons or so. However, when we did get our food, it was good, pretty much what you'd expect in a place like this. And it was really cheap too! The entire thing came to about 14 bucks and it was a lot of food. On the downside, the waitress never brought us water even though we asked a few times and instead of a small cup of milk for my kid we got an empty paper cup and a small glass of OJ. Oh yeah, the coffee was abominable, with the primary notes being shredded cardboard, extension cords, and stale almonds. All in all you can surely get a decent lunch here, just be prepared for spotty service and long waits. read more
