I went to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We were able to find parking right out front. This is street parking. They have a parking lot, but it's kind of small, and it was already full. We were able to be seated immediately as a place wasn't overly crowded. The food came quickly and it was hot. It was breakfast food, it wasn't super tasty but it was fine. Visited this location for the first time. Jimmy's cafe is a cool local spot with Latin flair in the Bronx community. It is well situated on castle hill and has parking. The restaurant itself was nice, clean, and spacious. They had god menu options that I hadn't seen at other diners i have been to. There are many delicious options for appetizers and entrees. The plantain crab cakes, and pernil were good. The service was lacking at the time of visit. As some people in our party had ordered entrees and they didn't take the entree order for others. The shrimp mofongo was tasty, but the shrimp and sauce were served on the side. I think the sauce would have been much better poured over the mofongo. I also had a margarita from the happy hour menu, but it tasted too strongly of alcohol, so I wouldn't order it again. My boyfriend had the steak with onions, white rice, beans, and a side salad. Quick lunch at Jimmy's. JGV is a great venue for a quick lunch, nice dinner or your special event. It's filled with light since it's surrounded by glass windows. The establishment has 2 levels, the 2nd floor is used more for events. It's very clean. The menu is of Puertorican cuisine and everything is delicious. We were able to select our seats I guess because it was not peak-hours. Our waitress was a real pleasure. This was not my first time at JGC and won't be the last. We found Jimmy's Grand Cafe because it was in the evening, we were freezing and hungry after walking through the botanic gardens nearby. OH. MY. GAWDS. This place was an amazing find for us. It looks like, and kind of feels like, a diner, but it's so much more. We were super excited to find Latin American cuisine favorites that we love and don't often find near home. I had a Cuban Medianoche sandwich that was served on absolutely excellent bread, with curly fries. My husband, the carnivore, ended up with some kind of multiple meat sandwich that came on the same amazing roll. (Before you think it's weird for me to rave about the ROLL, where we live in central PA, there is no good bread. Just saying!) I also had to get an order of tostones because I love them so much. They came with a garlic sauce that was intense and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. I got the impression that this is a neighborhood joint with lots of regulars. Came here on Mother's Day. The one positive was the service, the manager and wait staff were very attentive. The negative was the food. Everything was clearly prepackaged frozen food. I got the Dominican burger (the patty was clearly a frozen patty), my son had the chicken nuggets and French fries (the nuggets were also clearly frozen), my mother got the chicken Madeira she said the chicken was overcooked but the flavor was good. I am one who always cuts my burgers in half and I ate the first half and when I started the second half I took one bite and placed it upside down on my plate and that's when I noticed mold on the bottom bun of my burger. My server got the manager immediately. The manager came and she goes these buns are fresh and I respond clearly not. They did take the burger off my bill, but we will definitely not be going back. A surprising gem just a brick toss from the Bruckner. As a driver, patronizing some establishments bring anxiety due to the lack of adequate parking. I was trying to decide if double parking could work or if I could chance a partial hydrant block when we realized they had their own parking lot! SCORE! The "We" wanted a quick girls breakfast we literally had 40 minutes. Not only was our service prompt, the server personable, the food good, the interior is beautiful. Ive been wanting to eat from here for a while now. First time ordering from here and I was let down. I had ordered a grilled chicken cutlet hero with lettuce, tomato, mayo, well done bacon, cheddar cheese and avocado slices on the side. With a side of truffle fries. Sadly my truffle fries weren't throughly fried which then made them soggy, my bread was soggy & my avocado slices were inside of my hero. When I went to look for them they were not put to the side and they were already brown. I had called the restaurant and the manager wants to tell me that she wasn't aware that I wanted avocado slices on the side and that she was there when they opened a fresh avocado. That manager must have been lying or doesn't know what a fresh avocado is. It was brown and mushy as hell. She said she could give me credit for whenever I come in person. The place left a good impression. The interior is comfortable, the music creates a light atmosphere. Service is attentive, waiters work quickly and politely. Most of the dishes were delicious - the dish with meat and garnish was especially good. However, some menu items could be cooked fresher, this slightly reduces the overall impression. I think I went there once or twice and it wasn't the best food option even then but a relative loved going so we went. This time a friend choose to go here for our relocation spot due to the heat The star rating is for the service and the drinks. The place was fairly empty and we were seated at a spot near the service door and wanted to move. Also it was a hot day we wanted to spread out and be comfortable. We asked if we could move and at first we were told that the table we wanted to move to was for a party of 6.... Then some other guy said yes because it was empty. They only had one table that fits a party of 6 I guess. Not to mention when walking in there were parties of 2 sitting in all the other booths I'm sure was meant for more than just two people. But okay moving on First we had the Jack Honey Mango which was good and then I switched up and asked if they can do a Piña colada and put Mango in it, which they seemed a little stumped on how to make. Then they wanted to know if I still wanted it to have alcohol.. Yes!?? I just wanted a little extra flavor lol. The food was nothing to brag about and lacked flavor, which is disappointing considering this is known to be a Spanish restaurant. The ancestors would not be pleased with those servings, just saying. Unless they only put effort into the plates of certain guests, because it looked like a good bunch of people came by and just walked in and out the back like they were part of the staff.... Maybe they were but it was a lot of door action... For food our table spread consisted of the chicharrón de pollo and coconut shrimp for appetizers, coconut french toast with coquito sauce, scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, beef sausage links, steak de palomilla, fried egg and hash browns. On my end, for the chicharrón some parts were more bone than meat it was like they gave a good 5 of just mostly bone pieces and then like 3 pieces with meat. The Calypso sauce it came with was a good match though. I was so disappointed with the French toast. I mean majorly disappointed. The coquito sauce was like I just poured plain milk on my French toast so I had french toast con coco y leche. They overused the coconut which I guess was to cover us the dry bread. The beef sausage link seemed fine. It was beef and not pork thankfully! The eggs were scrambled, not seasoning and then cheddar cheese was just melted on top in a huge clump. For my friend she said the steak definitely needed A1 sauce and the hash browns needed ketchup salt and pepper. I don't recall how she said she liked the shrimp but she ate all of it. The waitress was fine. She thought it odd I asked for syrup and brought out extra "coquito" sauce but that wasn't fixing the French toast. I initially thought about ordering a gyro and curly fries to go but after having the main meal I knew it would have been a waste. There was a guy who cleaned up the tables and offered water who was very nice. So a star for the drinks a star for the waitress and one for the cleanup guy. Oh btw they have the cc logos in the window but right next to it a sign that says they aren't accepting credit cards at this time. My coworker hosted a Retirement Brunch at Jimmy's Grand Cafe. The food was good, but the service was terrible. One waitress, Ms. Sofia, was unpleasant and acted like she was in charge, walking around with an off-putting attitude. The staff started packing the food by 3:00 pm, even though the reservation was from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This disrupted the event and was done without consulting my coworker. When I questioned Ms. Sofia, she was rude. I spoke to the manager, Ms. Abby, who said they were supposed to start cleaning and packing food an hour before the event ended. However, she falsely claimed she was present at 3:00 pm and insisted they couldn't have started early. This was not true, as she wasn't there at 3:00 pm. As a result, late-arriving guests had no food. Overall, despite the good food, the poor service and early packing up of food significantly marred the celebration. I would never do an event in that place or go eat there again. So when anyone rent the place for an event make sure that they don't pack your food and try to throw you out fase.
