Feta spinach onion omelet with well-cooked potatoes
    Abbe K.

An excellent spot for high level diner food. Service is friendly if not that quick and food tasty and fresh. It's basic diner decor, although the seats could use a wipe (children must have been standing on the seats of our booth). Lots of seating. The pit stickers could have used 30 more seconds to ensure a full-cooked taste for the casing, not just the tips. The sauce had a flavor that lingered in a good way throughout the afternoon. I'll be back to try additional dishes.

Came here on weekday morning and it was generally empty and were seated right away. Cute classic/retro diner vibe with a menu you'd expect at a diner. Service was good & our waiter was friendly and helpful. The food came out in a timely manner and was good! (Especially the French toast bites, they were crispy but fluffy) they had some specialty coffee as well which wasn't too bad. Overall a good diner & breakfast spot, would come back again!

Still great food, great service, good times. Always enough tables to accommodate a crowd, family or just yourself. Definitely has become a staple for myself. Two thumbs up and Happy Yelping!

First time dining in and the place was so clean, bright, and the staff was super friendly. Breakfast was delicious and those home fries hit the spot! Would definitely come back to try a burger or one of their other specialties! Great local spot!

I was in the mood for breakfast foods recently, stopped by this diner, & my appetite was certainly satisfied! I always like to order mozzarella sticks from diners & this restaurant's mozz sticks were so yum! The blueberry pancakes, eggs, & home fries were good too, but I would probably ask for a lesser serving since the pancakes were very filling. I spent almost $50 which I wasn't expecting, but my waiter was very kind & knowledgeable of the menu, the restaurant itself was clean & it was a great second time coming here to eat!!

I have walked past this diner many times and finally had the chance to go in with a friend for lunch. This diner is much more aesthetically pleasing than most diners. Its super nice! We got a quesadilla, pancaked and omelettes. They got my friends omelette wrong twice so we choose to get something else, but besides that, the food and service was very good. I'd return and try more of their items!

    Outside dining is a joke
    Sarah B.

This place is a joke. They constantly have only one or two servers. I've gone there two days in a row. And the outdoor dining is very nicely set up. I have a dog, so I like to sit outside. The first time, they told me they only have one server so I could not sit outside. Fine, so I went somewhere else. Second time I came there I asked again to sit outside because I have a pet with me. The hostess actually asked me, is it set up? I responded I guess so. But honestly, what kind of question is that, you're the one who works here and you're asking me if your outdoor dining is set up? Why would I be asking to sit out there if it's not set up?! Odd, if you ask me. Anyway, I thought I'd give the place a chance, so I sat down outside. I was waiting for a couple minutes and no one came out to greet me or even give me a menu or water. So I started timing the person to see when they would come out. I waited over seven minutes and still nobody came out. So I went back inside to see the hostess and no one came to the stand. I finally spoke to a waitress because I flagged her down. And I told her that it's inappropriate to tell me I can sit outside and then no one even comes out to greet me or give me a menu or anything. She gave me a look, as if she was annoyed I was even complaining. YES, I'm complaining that the service and manners here are definitely subpar, to say the least. Too bad, because the food is good. Service sucks. At least have some manners and greet your customers or tell them you're busy. And if you're going to set up the outside dining and tell someone they can sit out there, then maybe at least tell me it will be quite a wait and then I could decide for myself if I want to sit there wasting my time, with a baby too, unattended for nearly 10 minutes. Waste of time. Go to Savor or Moss Cafe instead.

    Huevos Rancheros
    Cindy C.

3.5 as clearly popular local spot and good service. The coffee was smooth. The food was ok - serviceable but nothing to write home about. I read online that the diner had actual maple syrup. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience and they only had pancake syrup.

    2nd day! Old Blue Bay.
    Chuck L.

This is their second day. They took over and renovated the old Blue Bay that had been open for over fifty years. The landlord raised the rent to an unaffordable level. You can see that the new owners are really trying. Space is nice and clean with smiles from everyone. Time will tell.

Huevos rancheros with a side salad
    Heather G.

Very happy to have a good diner back in the neighborhood, after Blue Bay closed. I think I already have a new favorite in the huevos rancheros - although I'll have to try the old reliable corned beef hash and eggs next time. Service was very attentive - they were eager to keep our coffee cups full. Hopefully the greedy landlord doesn't drive this place out of business like they did with Blue Bay.

Finally had the chance visit for dinner... Menu has lots of choices... Lots of breakfast options here...went with a cup of matzo ball soup and a diner favorite of mine... Moussaka.... Very good with big portions... Would definitely be back...

Came here for brunch and was really blown away by the Chicken and Waffles. For $20, you get a big, crisp waffle (perfectly fluffy inside) and 3 big pieces of crisp and tender fried chicken. Have to mention that they use real maple syrup for this dish as well (a small, but important detail). You really can't beat it here -- perfect spot for brunch. Value: 5/5 Quality: 5/5 Quantity: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

This is what anyone would expect their "tuna salad on a Greek (or tossed) salad" to look like.
    Joanne Z.

This eatery never impresses me. The crispy bacon I requested was not crisp enough. And recently I ordered a Greek salad with tuna salad added. I expected the tuna salad to be in mound-form atop the salad. That's what you would expect too, I'm sure. But no, for some inexplicable reason the Johnson chops the tuna salad into unrecognizable tiny little lumps and mixed them throughout the salad. What a disappointment not to be able to get a decent forkful of tuna salad! I never saw tuna salad served this way and I never want to again.

The crispy octopus easily rivals anything I've had in Manhattan, super tender with just the right crisp. The cassava hash browns were so good I was almost annoyed by how simple they were. Paired with a rich, meaty sauce and a fresh fennel crunch, the whole dish was incredibly balanced. The wings were the most straightforward item on the menu (in the best way), lightly spiced, slightly sweet, and great for picky eaters. Someone needs to give the bartenders a raise. I ordered three drinks just to test consistency--every single one was balanced, spirit-forward, and not overly sweet. The presentation was different on each one and felt intentional without being gimmicky. I've seen some of the lower Yelp ratings and they mostly call out price, but this is very much a you get what you pay for situation. The quality of the food, the portion sizes (especially for this level of execution), and the overall intentionality behind the menu justify it in my opinion. Service was excellent. They squeezed me in last minute, and my waiter, Dionicio, handled my coconut allergy (not easy at a Dominican spot) with real care and ease. The space itself is worth mentioning - moody, mushroom/mossy interiors. Super cute, very well thought out, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to.

We called a head since it was 6 of us to see if we could do a walk in or if we needed a reservation , and both options are available which is a plus. Dress attire is your choice we dressed regular nothing fancy just day to day hang out style. We were greeted kindly by the staff sat down handed a set of dominoes to play with while we waited for our food and drank some water. The place is decorated nicely and you can see the vision in mind definitely. We placed our orders and I'm not gonna lie I came in thinking the food was gonna be eh but I was blown away by the flavors. For drinks we ordered a spicy sunset, pretty young thing and cokes. The spicy sunset is a nice strong drink and is rimmed nicely with just the right amount is tajin as you drink it; it has a nice smoky after taste to it definitely was delicious. The pretty young thing was a nice citrusy drink with a little salty aftertaste, which balanced out the flavor nicely. The cokes were not water down they were good as well. For food we ordered the Cuban sandwich with parmesan fries, butter chicken wings, butter chicken macaroni and cheese, steak nachos grande, butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and mom's butter chicken platter. This was a wonderful Spanish and Indian style combination of flavors. Definitely my first time having this type of food and wow what a mind blowing experience. Not one person in the table complained or had anything negative to say about their food. We all tried each other's food and each bite we exchanged to try was delicious and better than the last . The Cuban was delicious but the parmesan fries stole the show from that meal it was paired so lovely who would've thought those flavors would've mixed nicely. The buttery chicken wings oh my God dripping with goodness each bite was legit finger licking good lol. The butter chicken macaroni very very delicious. Had a nice cheese pull and a good balance could not stop eating it. The steak nachos were delicious I wish It had a little more meat, but it was not bad. The butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries also delicious and the fries were cooked so nicely that it was crispy and soft at the same time per bite. The mom's butter chicken platter was delicious they gave the right amount of sauce, the pita bread was delicious and soft, the salad that it was paired with was good too the rice was decently portioned. Everything was definitely tasty. Not one complaint of any of the meals. We did not wait long for the food. Bathrooms were nice and clean. I want to come back to try more things in the menu that's how good the food was and our group agreed to also come back with us. This spot is definitely a place to try. They have a beautiful quote right near the bar that really spoke to us, especially during these times it said "you are exactly where you need to be." It makes you stop for a second and really take it in and just live in the moment ... especially living in New York, where you have to be always go go go fast fast fast. This was really beautifully written thank you to the staff who made our night and our friend's birthday special we'll see you soon.

As a corn lover, the flavor note of Esquites just reminded me of elotes that you get from a street vendor in Mexico. The Tlayuda was huge! We added carne asada as our topping, and it turned into an huge entree that's shareable between two people. We finished our meal with the most flavor-intense dish - duck confit enmoladas. Despite not being a crazy mole fan, the mole sauce that was drizzled all over the enmoladas had a perfect balance of rich notes with a bit of bittersweet chocolate undertone. The ambiance was great with both indoor and outdoor seating. We were there to celebrate our anniversary, and the restaurant made it so special for us by providing a menu printed with "happy anniversary" with a note card and glasses of sparkling wine! This is a gem that's not to be missed!!!

I noticed other new items, such as the pork Ossobuco, which sounded better on paper, but Felix, who had taken over from Irma, stated the Pork Chop was better than the Ossobuco and accounts for my to go order. I still wonder about that decision, but the important thing is Home Bx is constantly evolving while the chefs in the kitchen remain constant and consistent. The roasted chicken is really good and verges on comfort food. It comes with a malanga truffle puree, which is a puree of the malanga tuber in the Caribbean and South America, resulting in a consistency of mashed potatoes, but has a nutty flavor that becomes very earthy with the butter, truffle oil and mushroom sauce, sparked with white wine and bits of bacon that has you thinking pancetta. The sauteed spinach accompanying this dish melds perfectly well with this dish. The chicken is the boneless breast and bone-in wing drumette, grilled in their kitchen. The skin is crispy and there is some char from the grill on certain parts, lending even greater favor and texture you will devour. The white meat of the breast absorbs the white wine, balanced with the butter and truffle oil and never has a hint of dryness. I am certain this dish would have been exceptional had I eaten it on premises. It will not have the impact of the Cote de Boeuf, but, at twenty seven bucks, this is probably the sleeper on the menu. Four stars. The Home Pork Chop is a single French cut chop, medium thickness, bone-in resembling a mini Tomahawk style frenched bone. It comes with a Marsala mustard sauce, which I could not determine if it was made with a dry red or white Marsala wine. It was served with an Oriental sweet potato mashed that did not do anything for this dish in my opinion. I would have to revisit this by eating it on premises, but this was the least impressive of the steak and chicken. Please take this review a little lightly, given I ate the chicken and pork chop at home. The pork chop benefits from being grilled as well, but did not have the impact other preparations have at Home Bx. If the Marsala mustard sauce had more bite to it, the Oriental sweet potato would have offered the contrast and juxtaposition for this dish to shine more. You'll enjoy eating the rest of the meat off that frenched pork chop bone. 3.8 stars. They work very hard at Home Bx to deliver on your plate for the benefit of your palate. Home Bx may be the only restaurant I have found that is receiving feedback and acting upon it and without anyone's prompts and Home Bx is independently evolving in their menu, preparation, and presentation. If there's any doubt, try their Lobster Mac and Cheese and get back to me or ask the folks nearby who ordered it.
