Review for Breakfast I visited the National Diner in the Westchester Square area and had a great breakfast experience. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the diner itself was spotless. It looks very clean and I value that. I really appreciated the option to choose between hash browns, grits, or home fries (most diners only offer home fries or French fries). The eggs were cooked perfectly, and I loved that they provided plenty of butter and jam for the toast, with options like white, whole wheat, or rye. Their generous breakfast sides and attention to detail definitely make them stand out from many other diners I've visited. Very clean cozy typical diner, close to Westchester Square train station and local businesses. Nice, friendly waitress. Food was average, I had corned beef sandwich with coleslaw, it did not come together so ordered separately. Price was not bad but corned beef was dry and crumbly. I ordered carrot cake from the cooler but it had gone dry too and the waitress didn't give me any for that reason. I don't expect a whole lot from most diners so I would come back if in the area, it's a nice place to get out of the rain with good views of the street, and maybe other items would taste better. read more

I was looking for a spot to eat and noticed this place, and I decided to check it out, and let me tell you it didn't disappoint. This was by far one the best diner experiences I have ever had. Good service, some of the best food ever. The music selection is elite, if I could here 1000 times. I would never get tired of it. Great spot overall, if I could rate it 10 stars I could. National Diner is an ideal place to grab a bite and go. I went in after exiting dmv. It's in a great location, with a decent amount of foot traffic, close to Castle Hill Avenue. I was greeted by one of the waitresses there, as other customers were eating their meals. The setting and decor was simple; old-school but clean. It has a good number of sitting booths, as well as the usual variety of tables and chairs. I ordered a cup of coffee; which I found it that it tasted odd. I also ordered the Hungry Woman breakfast special. It consisted of French toast, ham, sausage, bacon and eggs any style. I requested turkey ham, sausage and bacon. The eggs were fried, sunny side up. Each egg had a slice of cooked ham underneath. I noticed that the yolks were a little undercooked. Sadly, that was the first turnoff moment I had. I said to myself, no problem. I simply scraped the raw egg yolks off to the edge of the plate. However, the meat products were extremely salty to my taste. The ham was the saltiest of all. I tried eating a piece of French toast with maple syrup, along with a piece of the meat products. The combination was too much. I simply took two bites of each item. I ended up eating the cooked portions of the eggs, and most of the French toast. That was the best thing I had out of the breakfast combo. I regret not having some cinnamon to sprinkle on top. I would definitely come back to this restaurant, maybe for some pancakes with a fresh fruit topping. Overall, the decor and service were amazing. read more

Had lunch with the girls at one of my favorite diners in the Bronx. Ordered our food. The waitress seemed uninterested in placing our order correctly. One of the girls ordered the steak quesadillas, looked fine when she bite into the first piece of the quesadilla out came a long thick black piece of hair included in her meal. I told the manager, he apologized and replaced the food with a different order. In the interim the waitress was walking around talking rudely about our group in Spanish stating that we were " conquistadors" and she forgot to do her job as a server, she even forgot my salad. ordered breakfast today at 830 am and it arrived at 1030. called the diner and the manager told me the driver was in an accident (didn't apologize once) and said the food would be right over. I asked if everything was ok and the manager seemed to not care at all about the driver. when I called another 15 minutes later he only offered a cancelation as compensation. food finally arrived an hour late and the delivery man said there was no accident. food was ice cold. my sunny side up eggs were fried solid, grits tasted like ass. We didn't feel like cooking so we went to Yelp to look for diner food (we had cravings) food came on time, complete and not cold. My French toast was real halal bread dense but still fluffy. Bacon was well done and eggs were scrambled perfect. The breakfast sausage was authentic you could taste the sage. My boyfriends meal was the Mexican omelette which he liked and the home fries were not greasy or hard. He appreciated that the white toast was grilled and had a good amount of butter on it.
