Very cute cafe, lots of seating. I'd love to come on a weekday, bc it was pretty crowded on a Sunday. This is a good place to get work done if loud-ish music doesn't bother you. Ordered a Horchata Latte. Guess he couldn't understand me because he gave me a Cortado and I didn't realize until we got back into the car. Tasted like it was filtered through the back of a toilet and scooped up with a dirty street cup from the toilet bowl. I'd have drank it if the espresso tasted good and was good quality, but nope. Talk about finding something when you need it. I ran across this coffee shop on a day I was extremely overwhelmed and needed a break. My friend suggested we come here. It proved to be the perfect spot. Even though this is located in the Bronx it very much gave city vibes. Yes, this is a result of gentrification HOWEVER it was was very diverse, affordable, and welcomes the neighborhood culture. The waitstaff was very polite and knowledgeable about everything on their menu and they actually take your orders to your table and clear table. Even if you opt to sit on the roof. My friend and I arrived around 12ish and did not depart until they closed at 4ish. While she got caught up on school work I was able to journal and collect myself. We chilled the entire time on the rooftop. We were not rushed to leave, and we had free wifi. I opted for an omelet and a butterfly pea lemonade. The food was not wow...but it felt light and fresh. I appreciate the new restaurants in South Bronx that take a different approach to American fare, Mottley Kitchen definitely being one of them. I got the sausage + egg Sammie for breakfast, it definitely wasn't your typical sausage from any standard place as this one had beef & lamb in it- was a unique take & not for everyone tbh but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also had the butternut squash kale salad for lunch- I should've added a protein such as chicken along with it for it to be more filling but even without that it was nice for a light lunch. I really enjoyed the sourdough croutons with the squash- again, not for everyone but I liked it a lot. All in all, I really enjoyed Mottley Kitchen & their take on certain dishes, honestly found it quite innovative. read more

I recently moved to the Mott Haven area of the Bronx and this place has quickly become my go to breakfast/brunch spot. The menu options are rich with flavor and a plethora of healthy options, from bowls to sandwiches and wraps I love that they have a variety of hot/cold beverage options. I am writing this review on the 2nd day in a row of dining here. Yesterday I discovered this cafe in route to work. I ordered a Oatmilk latte (large) and a turkey bacon, egg and cheese. The sandwich was delicious but it was split on two separate whole grain rolls. Even though I appreciate the effort, most people do not want to consume two rolls for breakfast. The latte was good but weak in espresso taste. I did think $18 was steep but I said I would give them another try. My second visit I had a ranchero breakfast sandwich and an Oatmilk latte. The sandwich consisted of more bread than egg. I asked for over medium and it was a runny egg. I only ate one piece of the brioche bun because it was huge! The coffee order was made as iced and had to be made over hot. This latte was weaker than the last... I'm good on Mottley Kitchen. The food and beverages are too expensive and the execution is not there. Beautiful place though. read more

This place looks a bit out of place when you compare it with the rest of the environment. I came by here because its the closest breakfast place within bronx region. The service is slow, its like a cafe type vibe, in a warehouse, trendy, and cute. Lots of space, and big table with chairs and benches can hold large parties or large groups. Their coffee is not bad! I had hibiscus latte with oat milk, and to my surprise (although came out a bit orange) its not bad. Their French toast comes with fruits. and their beef/lamb sausage omelette is delicious too with their special sauce. we also got a pistachio crossant which i didn't get a chance to eat but my boyfriend said it was delicious. there is street parking available but no parking lots. read more

Recommended by a friend, Mottley Kitchen is located on the same block as residential houses & a school so parking can be tight. The interior is decorated beautifully, its spacious and gives a local hang out vibe. Busy, which I can assume is a testament to the quality & taste of the food (I only tried the peanut butter cookies....delish). Open dining area, the counter is full of appealing baked good items. Do we aware, their heater is broken today. It very much feels like you are eating outside and it was 44 the last time we checked too. You will need a warm drink while here for sure. We ordered an oat milk latte, New Yorker combo, apple cinnamon oatmeal, green goddess, spiced hot chocolate with extra hot chocolate and maple cruller. $53.58. The maple cruller is good, better warmed up. The New Yorker combo is good, the turkey bacon and the mustard give it some good flavor. The green goddess salad is okay, dressing doesn't have a lot of flavor to me. The Rye berry grain adds a nutty texture to the salad. The spiced hot chocolate is okay, even with extra chocolate, it's not very chocolatey and not getting any of the spices at all. I saw at the end of imbibing my drink that all or most of the dark chocolate settled and was stuck on the bottom of the mug. The large oat milk latte is super weak. Tastes like there may only be 2 espresso shots in the large cup, greatly insufficient for the size of it. The apple oatmeal really does taste like an apple pie oatmeal. Nice slices of real apple and cut apples too. The New Yorker combo was the better part of our lunch. The maple cruller and the oatmeal is worth a try. Service was an order and payment transaction. Rooftop terrace.... large communal tables with benches and finally the food looks and tastes fresh. Carrot cake lived up to its hype - vegan too and a decent slice.... Shakshouka was slightly bitter and a little over cooked. Sausages were underwhelming- 3 tiny 2" long pieces served with a few pieces of whole wheat bread and a lentil salad...the place could do with being cleaned a little as tables are left dirty and chairs are covered in left-over bits of food and water... other than that, I'd come again. The food was decent, but the service left much to be desired. The staff appeared very dismissive, creating an atmosphere where it seemed like better service was reserved for a specific clientele. Although this place is in my community, it doesn't make you feel valued or welcomed. I've ordered takeout several times and noticed the majority of dine-in patrons are white and look like transplants. Today was my first time dining in, and despite the restaurant being nearly empty, I stood in front of the most visible point of sale for service. I didn't say anything at first to be polite, as the staff seemed busy, but it took over 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged me or asked if I needed assistance. I am skeptical of a lot of the reviews on this site as I've spoken to a few of my peers and they have more or else echoed the same sentiments I have about this place. If you're in the area go to La Morada instead. Much better food and more importantly much better people and service. read more

Let's talk about how crazy bougie I thought this place was when I stepped in and all of a sudden believed it was a secret portal into a coffeeshop in Brooklyn from Mott Haven in the South Bronx. Mottley Kitchen is only a couple blocks away from my school building, which seems so weird to me because there aren't places like this in the area. Everything they make in this kitchen is gold: I love their Green Goddess Salad with chicken. Breakfast sandwiches? Yes. Any latte, chai or vanilla? Yes! Sweets that can convert an "I don't do dessert with my regular meals" patron? Yes!!! In addition to being complete beasts with the food game, this place partners with local businesses to showcase and sell their goods in the cafe. Including Boogie Down Books, which if you don't know, you must stop reading this for a hot sec and go shop immediately. On top of all that, they get extra points for ambience. Staff is mad friendly (Midwestern nice, really), the bathroom is spotless, and now, they have an outdoor roof area where you can sit and enjoy some sunlight and fresh flowers. Drove up here on a Saturday early afternoon to try out the highly rated food. Large open interior with several long tables and ledge seating along the windows. Started off with a Latte ($4.50) - comes out very hot; strong with no sugar needed. For food, settled on the Blueberry Almond Cake ($4ish) and the Classic BEC ($7ish). Cake is flaky with the right amount of blueberries, pairing well with the coffee. Sandwich has a healthy layering of bacon, fried eggs, and cheddar cheese. Bread is a standout here - seemingly fresh baked and hardy enough to keep all the ingredients inside. Despite it being a Saturday morning, the place never had a line, and there is plenty of street parking outside. Good stop for a quick pickup or a sit-down meal. read more

Over the past few years, the Mott Haven section of the Bronx has seen somewhat of a transformation - this is especially evident in the burgeoning food scene. A number of new eateries have popped up in the area that has increased the culinary landscape of the area. Mottely Kitchen is part of that change, and when I first discovered the spot a couple of years back I put it on my agenda to check out. While it took a bit of time, I finally found the opportunity to make a stop there for lunch. MK is mainly a breakfast and lunch spot; they're open until 4:30 Mon-Sat and until 3 on Sundays. While parking can be difficult, it's a short walk from the 6 train which makes it convenient if you're traveling by subway. I *loved* the interior - it's bright, clean, contemporary, and open with a number of communal tables as well a counter where you can pull up a stool. The focal point of the space is the ordering counter in the center which gives way to the semi-open kitchen. While this is an eatery, they also feature a number of books for purchase as well as other items from local artists and vendors. The way it works at MK is you order at the counter and then find a seat where they will serve the food to you. Looking over the menu I found a number of different breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well as salads, bowls, and a nice variety of baked goods. I also noticed a nice variety of hot and cold beverages. I wanted to sample their avocado toast - while this can easily be a basic new-age menu item, I was curious because they topped theirs with sunflower seeds and hot sauce. This elevated it - while it wasn't life changing, it was a refreshing twist on a staple menu item. I also had some of their peach iced tea which was unsweetened (how I like it) but had prominent peach flavor. I was drawn to their bowls - specifically the chicken grain bowl which contained a braised chicken thigh, turmeric cauliflower, beets, avocado, kale, grains, shallots, and golden turmeric dressing. The bowl was delicious - it was a hearty portion but still just enough for a lunch. The grains were tender, all of the flavors and textures worked well, and that golden turmeric dressing really tied it all together (while also adding a subtle amount of heat). It was really great - I mean, wow. All of the staff I encountered were super friendly, and our food were served promptly. Overall, Mottley Kitchen is a total yes for me. I love the fact that they are delivering a menu filled with fresh, diverse products and are also partnering with other local businesses. This place is definitely a breath of fresh air and as someone who was born and raised in the Bronx, it makes me happy. It's totally worth stopping in and I can't wait for my next visit. read more

As a gradaute student, I go to this cafe often to read books or write essays, and I have had some of my productive moments in this cafe. They have an extensive menu, at typical cafe prices. My go-to drink is the blue iced chai; it has a wonderfully vibrant blue hue and flavor. The sandwiches here are always a hit and you can just tell that the food was crafted with meticulous care. It has a bit of a Morrocan theme to it. What truly makes this place stand out is the staff! These employees go above and beyond, always bringing the food to you, no matter how far you are. Go upstairs and you'll be met with a roof top terrace that for me has become a sanctuary! I come to the rooftop often. Its a place where you can read a book, hang with a friend, and even do yoga on select days. I feel totally at peace when I'm on the rooftop, as though time simply slows down. I'm thrilled to have a neighborhood cafe. A resounding 10/10, I wholeheartedly recommend this cafe! read more

Yup!!! I'll be here religiously during the summer and for any breakfast meetings moving forward. I am moved ! I had the bacon egg and cheese sandwich ( let me be clear , it don't say bacon egg and cheese on the menu. It's under eggs ) so don't catch yourself slipping thinking it's not on there. The best part of this sandwich was the bread and the crunchy crispy bacon. I am ALWAYS skeptical with bacon, and I always end up taking out the soggy and mushy part of the bacon to feel the crunch. I didn't need to take nothing apart. --that's just me I'm weird y'all, and particular. So if this speaks to you. Just know u won't be disappointed. I'll repeat, such an amazing space. Ok ladies and gents, pay attention. I'm about to share one of the most incredible news with you (at least I think it is). I was in deep when Mottley stomped in South Boogie and on Yelp. I mean...you really can't get any more south Bronx than this area. But don't matter. Menu+location+style brought us here- especially my daughter who's visiting from the West Coast and wanted to try this spot out for their Vegan items. I thought this place throbs with fire- because Mottley is just as intense on the outside with the smokey grey exterior as it is inside. Every detail from what I saw, has been carefully thought out. Space is large, high ceilings, wooden communal tables- perfect for groups. Tons of Sweet and baked goods at the counter. Order up front. Pay. Number stand is brought to your table. George was the man of the day and made sure our selections were made to our liking. I thought I was getting an 'Horchata Latte'- with just...Horchata. I picked up on the coffee taste quick with just a sip- and have been coffee-free for a very long time- so wasn't looking to mess up. Sure enough, my guy George said there's a shot of espresso in it and Mr. Barista soon made a hot and frothy Horchata-only with Almond Milk- at no cost. So Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. While Mom had Cappuccino and my kid stayed with Agua. Meals were very good. My kid tweaked her Bowl to make it Vegan and turned out good.
