I've ordered a couple of times from this establishment through Ubereats. The pick up is fast and delivery has always been quick but my grip is their portions and how every sandwich is not made equally. Their b.e.c is inconsistent with the sauce and bacon amounts. One sandwich is light sauce, good amount of bacon. The other time the sandwich is heavy on the sauce and one slice of bacon broken in half. Is that fair? I've had this establishment also cancel an order twice because I only ordered a drink... Girl what if I was thirsty and you're literally the only place that sells and delivers chai tea? I love this cafe and service is usually stellar. As a former cafe worker, I recommend pouring the hot espresso onto cold milk before adding ice, otherwise the hot espresso just melts all the ice immediately. For $8 drink it would be nice to have more time to enjoy it leisurely. read more

Although the food at Mottley's was never life changing, but it used to be better. The sandwiches I bought neither of them had much flavor. They were both lacking in salt and seasoning. One of the sandwiches, sweet and spicy chicken, they increased the portion size, but it was sweet and bland. The other sandwich, a BBQ chicken sandwich, had lots of flavorless toppings. For the amount of time I sat there waiting for my food, I expected better. The pastries weren't terrible but also not great either. The pain aux raisin had way too many raisins in the center of the spiral and the center of the spiral didn't taste baked enough. It also didn't have much flavor. The pistachio croissant was just pretty but it had no flavor of pistachio. It tasted like an almond filling. Most of the filling was towards the ends of the croissant. Overall, I don't think I'll be returning. The food is overpriced and lacking in flavor. I'll make sure when I'm out to bring my own food instead. read more

I really wanted this place to be great and it almost was except for the food and prices. The food was a little less than good and the prices were a little more than inexpensive. The avocado toast could be a little less fussy and a little more flavorful. I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention that I felt the dish was a little light on the avocado and for the price I paid, I was definitely disappointed. Let's face it, avocado toast is all about the avocado, not the toast. A light schmear just doesn't cut it. I also had the steak and eggs sandwich which wasn't actually steak and eggs but roast beef and eggs. Although I was alerted of the change, I wasn't quite prepared for the thinly sliced, crispy-edged roast beef I received. The taste was decent but I've never had thin, crispy roast beef in my life and it's not something I'd like to eat again. I also had the Goddess Bowl with chicken and it was trash. To be fair, the bowl itself was edible but the chicken was extremely disappointing, so much that I didn't even finish it. I can't say the chicken wasn't flavorful, because it was, but I'm just not sure what it tasted like -- definitely not chicken. I think they cooked the chicken with no seasoning and then coated it with a sauce as if that would make for good eats. It did not. This place is getting harder and harder to love/support! Aside from their exorbitant prices (such as $9 for what is essentially a sausage, egg and cheese), they recently increased their prices AND got rid of the customer loyalty card ($5 off after 10 visits). It's unfortunate because their food, coffee, and pastries have always been delicious (albeit expensive), but there is a clear disconnect between the business and it's regular customers. Personally, I believe that businesses should be more conscious of the communities they've become a part of and do their best to show that they can be a cooperative component, as opposed to an isolated self-serving business and (dare I say) pillar of gentrification in the South Bronx. A freakin' YouTuber of all people recommended this place to me. The South Bronx is not a place where one would go to to find a cute healthy cafe. It's been known to be a bit of a "food desert" where one can only find fast food restaurants such as Dominos, KFC, and various bodegas. Mottley is a refreshing sight for sore eyes, it improves the area and highlights the very few high qualities other eateries nearby it. Although it has "gentrification" written all over it, from the exterior design, a blue grey/green color, to its bright modern interior to its organic menu. They also have a large communal area of tables indoor and a roof patio/outdoor dining garden. It's insane to think that this singular place brings so much improvement to an area where communities can use it the most. For example; since going there once I've gone back 3 times and explored other places nearby it. I'd have never done this if this place wasn't as attractive as it is. They even sell items from small businesses and local artists. All of these words and I haven't even mentioned the food, which is so phenomenal that I won't spoil it. I moved to Mott Haven area a little over a year ago. I have been extremely spoiled food-wise coming from Queens! lol. Here is (my) honest review/rundown: Reality is, in low-income areas across the country, they are oversaturated with Chinese stores (no shade), liquor stores and Kennedy Fried chickens. This is not up debate because it's a hard fact. The term 'food desert' exists for a reason. Some may be upset at the site of Mottley looking at it as 'gentrification' but others like myself, are so happy to have a place like this in the area! Granted, expensive coffees and lattes don't suit everyone in the community(which is also one of the most impoverished areas in the Bx) so I am hoping in the future there can be something done to be more inclusive of ALL the residents in the area. Maybe make a certain time or day with discounted coffee/pastries? I read they used to do story time before the pandemic....why not offer a 50% discount to parents whom come with their kids? Children shouldn't miss opportunities for learning etc because their parents can't afford a $7 latte. Now with that said, let me give Mottley their "flowers" because they have shown up and shown OUT during this pandemic! While my earlier comments are geared more toward when life gets back to normal,I need everyone on Yelp to understand how much they have done for the community during the pandemic! A LOT! They have partnered with the community fridge, other organizations whom have a tab for frontline workers, had a hot cocoa stand for the kids and more...THAT is what community is about and what I hope continues after the pandemic. Wowwww omg get this asap! Just make sure you are home or not in a rush since the yolk is going to pop perfectly in your sandwich. This is an upgraded version of the classic NY bacon, egg, and cheese and I am HERE FOR IT! My waist might not be..lol. The pastries behind the case looked soooo good. Delicious! I had the avocado toast which comes on thickly sliced, lightly toasted bread and a drizzle of pumpkin seeds. My husband had the pimiento & cheese sandwich which he said brought him back to his childhood in Mississippi. The rooftop dining area was lovely. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Very trendy shop that may make you want to spend more than you should. Their presentation of items is very persuasive. My first time there I had their BLT. It was great. Tasty bacon and perfect fresh L & T. Second visit ordered the green goddess salad. When I came back to pick it up they did not put the buttermilk dressing in the bag. So I had a dry salad for lunch. If they remembered the dressing, I would have given them a five star review. So, if you order a salad make sure you have the dressing if you are taking it to go. Excellent local cafe with amazing food. Egg sandwiches are a staple for any breakfast menu and they do them right! The brioche bun is nice and soft, but dense enough to hold the ingredients. I absolutely love the cheddar and the egg can be cooked however you'd like. There are many add-on's to choose from, like avocado or bacon. The maple cruller is fantastic, it reminds me of another popular downtown cafe (that I won't name). You can smell the sweet maple syrup, the doughnut itself is moist and extremely satisfying. I've eaten here pre-Covid and post Covid, the quality is the exact same. Be sure to order online for pick up, as they aren't taking walk-in orders. Super random, both times I got an iced latte with whole milk... it was the most delicious iced coffee drink I've ever had, I didn't even add sugar. It's great to see such a place in the Bronx, the South Bronx in particular. A nice trendy place in the tree lined street on East 140th Street. I can go there for breakfa and lunch. The salad was so amazing and I don't have to go to Manhattan to Chopt or Sweetgreen to these kinds of amazing salads. You can also order coffee, pastries. I'm looking forward of returning. I took way too long to visit Mottley Kitchen. I absolutely love this place. The food is delicious. I had an avocado toast and an iced vanilla chai. They were both scrumptious. My daughter had a cold hot chocolate which she says is the best she's ever had. She also had a bacon and cheese sandwich on a brioche bun. The bread was so soft! I can't wait to go back and try everything else they offer They try very hard to keep the community engaged by hosting book readings, concerts and a slew of other activities. They sell merchandise made by local artists, vendors, and books written by local authors. It's a very kid friendly place. My daughter and I went on a Tuesday and we sat there for over an hour doing homework. There were also other people there doing work. It is a big enough space that you don't feel crowded. The only downside is that they're closed on Sundays and Mondays. They also close relatively early which stinks. I would go there to pick up dinner if they were open later. You have to rely on street parking and that area is pretty crowded. We took the train when we went and the walk isn't too bad. read more

My visit to Mottley was a bit of a let down... after reading such great reviews. Went during the summer. Place was visually great - lots of space, clean. Ordered an iced turmeric latte with oat milk. And it was awful. I poured in simple syrup, tried fixing it. Have it a couple of more sips. Still horrible. Asked it it can be remade since it just tasted odd. Switched to macadamia milk. No improvement. (And to be fair - I've had many a Turmeric Latté from a variety of places) My friend who went to meet with me had regular coffee and she too wasn't happy with it.
