I've come here a couple of times during different times of the day. If you visit here during peak lunch hours (during the summer) it can get very hot and stuffy in side of the restaurant. Don't get fooled by the lines b/c they may look long but they move fast. I'm totally addicted to the spicy meatballs which I have eaten probably 4x in the past 1-2 months. If you get a small, it's 3 meatballs, a large is 5 meatballs. I was feeling greedy once and got the 5 and it was definitely too much food. The meatballs taste homemade, with none of the extra grease and other nonsense that may sometimes be in meatballs when you dine out. They give you a choice of rice or grain, I prefer the grain. My fav sides has been the sautéed kale with lemon juice, and the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese is on the heavier side so if you're not a fan of lots of cheese, try something different. I've tried the kale and pineapple salad, eh, it wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable either. I love how they have like 5 different choices of tea. My fav is the passion fruit one. If you dine in the restaurant you can have unlimited tea! I will definitely be returning and trying the other entrees. If you want a reasonably priced, healthy meal, come to dig inn!! read more

This is my first time here; I went for lunch. I had to try it since it just opened and every time I passed by on my way to campus it was crowded. I ordered the "small" plate with braised beef and one of their rice options instead of salad. The two sides I chose were beets with pumpkin seeds and kale. Overall, my first bite was delicious and the portion size was acceptable. At that point I decided I'd go back for dinner. I went back for dinner and ordered the same combination of food in the "big" plate, sans drink. I wanted to compare the two plate sizes as one yelper pointed out that the "big" plate was basically a rip off. So I came home and transferred all the food in the big plate into my small plate from lunch and it totally fit. The lid even closed without any bulging at the top. So while I enjoyed the food and will continue to go there, I suggest you get the small plate as you won't get much more in the big plate; it'll just cost you more. Get the small plate with a drink (their teas are good) and it'll cost $10.26, which is cheaper than the $11 for the big plate without a drink. As for their operation/service, the only suggestion I have is that they should ask if the meal is to stay or go. Right now they hand the plate to the customer and if you're having it to go, you stand in line waiting for the cashier without a bag or lid. You have to wait to get to the cashier to get a lid and bag, which is inefficient and adds time to the checkout process-ultimately adding to the backed up line. Therefore, if the meal is to go I suggest that instead of handing the customer their plate without a lid, they should lid the plate and send it to the cashier for bagging to go (similar to Chipotle). read more

The food here is so amazing!! It's like a home cooked meal and it's so clean so it makes you feel super healthy. Every time I come here the staff is incredibly genuinely nice people. At tonight's visit I was generously helped out by an amazing crew. To begin I was greeted by the shift supervisor (I was told) Tiffany! She was very friendly! I was with a friend that had never been to a Dig Inn before and she helped by talking her through the whole process! Then taking my order was Dan! He was so sweet! Farm to table meets fast food. I had been recommended this place by a few people so I when I saw it was open at Columbia I had to go check it out. I came on a weekday afternoon around 2pm and there was no line. I feel like I needed directions of how this place worked, but luckily the man behind the counter was super nice and helped me out and explained how it works. Basically you get a grain, a protein, a hot side, and a cold side. The dishes vary by season, week, stock, etc. I got the farro with butternut squash, the roasted chicken, brussel sprouts with orange/citrus oil, and kale and granola salad. The farro and the kale salad were both absolutely amazing. The perfect mix of sweet and savory thanks to the butternut squash and the granola. The chicken was pretty solid and the brussel sprouts were average. For fast food, nothing was too greasy which is a plus. It's a little pricey, but makes sense for a trendy farm to table healthier take on fast food place. I don't know how healthy it actually is..but in my book I'll consider it healthy :) read more

Decor is very Malibu meets Brooklyn. Love the all white and touches of wood accents and marble counters to give a high end feel. Seating is mainly bar height. Made to grab something quick and eat amongst strangers. Outside seating and one stokke high chair. It is gorgeous but yes there is only one. Food concept is farm to table but fast and convenient. Fresh seasonal produce and lightly seasoned and cooked perfectly. They have amazing sauces. Get the homemade Sriracha sauce and the tofu and garlic aioli. Lost one star because of the over cooked chicken. But all in all I look forward to coming here again. Nothing fancy, but I like their food for the purposes of a quick bite. I've had their flank steak and salmon options, both of which are decent. Even the small plate gives you a decent portion; there doesn't appear to be a big difference between the small and large, so I would opt for the small. I like the fact that they have brown rice as a standard and they have a good variety of sides to choose from. Lines appear long but it moves quickly (reminds me of a healthier Chipotle). A decent option for a quick lunch if you're in the area, although I wouldn't make a special trip here. read more

I love Dig Inn for the quality and taste of its food, and at such a low price! Also, the staff here is AMAZING and so friendly! However, the AC in this location is brohas left the building unbearably hot, and uncomfortable to sit in. Additionally, it is annoying that they stop making food before closing time, leaving the customers in the last hour to pick from the meager choices left from the day. Absolutely fantastic food. I love the concept and the execution was great. Moves like a Chipotle line (super fast service), tastes like fine dining. Has this great, open, fresh ambience. Think wood furniture and lots of daylight. I also loved their book selection - I was perusing their copy of Pollan before my friends arrived. I ordered the grilled salmon with sweet potatoes and their seasonal veggies. The salmon was delicious and grilled to perfection. It was topped with this lovely green sauce (peas, maybe?) and sat on a bed of some type of savory grains that was also amazingly flavored and soft in texture. The sweet potatoes were roasted so nicely - slightly crispy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth smooth on the inside. And the seasonal veggies (spinach and some other veggies) were fantastic. Flavoring was so nice and clean. Nothing was bland or boring. I was so impressed. Also had their vanilla mint tea, which was delicious and refreshing. Cannot recommend this place enough. Recent visits to Dig Inn Market have been very disappointing for several key reasons; 1) Price - The price for a market salmon plate with Mac N' Cheese side approaches $15. In my hometown $15 will get you a cheap sit down meal with table service. For fast casual, non table service food in a style similar to Chipotle, $8-10 should be the norm. While I understand Manhattan is an expensive real estate market, prices are just too high to justify anymore. 2) Quality - the food is not as tasty as I remember it. I noticed a change in the quality of the steak. The salmon is often overdone. In fact, I've been there several times when the food was flat out cold. Although I listed these criticisms, I do commend the chain for trying to be the first true healthy fast casual restaurant. Their goal is commendable. However, as prices increase and quality decreases, it is becoming hard to justify a $13-15 take out dinner. I'd rather save up for a nice meal out with friends. read more

The food's surprisingly flavorful without trying too hard. The set up, on the other hand, needs serious attention by an efficiency expert versed in food delivery. Everything they did behind the counter was inefficient, which made the service too slow. Combine that with staff mumbling at customers in a noisy space with a plastic partition and it's impossible to communicate to get in and out of there. No one's happy to have to work and I don't expect obsequiousness but the folks behind the counter could use some customer service re-training. The salmon is amazing, make sure you get the pesto on it! The Mac costs a little extra but is worth it. Pretty hipster place where you can create your own healthy bowls. You can choose a base of brown rice or salad, two sides (a variety of veggies, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese), and a protein. You can split one of the sides once so you can actually get 3 sides. My first time here and I got brown rice, seasonal veggies (squash), broccoli, mac and cheese, and chicken. Pretty good combo and you feel pretty full and healthy after eating it all. Everything was pretty good. The mac and cheese could use a bit more seasoning. The price is on the high side, but nothing out of the ordinary for this type of restaurant. Think around $10-15 for a dish with sides, $8ish juices, etc. Service is friendly and fast. Seating is a little sparse though, and runs out quickly at peak meal times. Yumm.This place is organized like your average Chipotle store, where people mostly get the plates that comes with one entree and two sides. The decor is also pretty metallic and contemporary, spaces are a bit crammed, but there are usually enough seats. Walking in from the outside, you can already smell the delightful aromas. When I ordered, though, they were short on the chicken and fish so I had to wait for 10 minutes. However, the wait was worth it. The salmon dish I got was probably one of the best salmon with a tomato-based sauce. Portions here are for you to maintain a healthy weight, so there is not too much, but you are left content. The two side dishes I ordered were less memorable. I recommend the heated side dishes as my kale salad was more appetizing than my ratatouille. Healthy and tasty - 4 stars! read more

The food I'm generally a fan of. I like their flank steak (really good!) and meatballs. Their warm side dishes are all pretty good (especially the Mac and cheese) and as far as cold I would recommend the spinach and mango salad. Great dressing in it. I'd stay away from the lentils (way too much celery but I'm not a fan of celery.) Really close to main campus Columbia (whenever you have to take Butler library break.) The entrance is between the tables they placed outside. It's a weird set up they have between the entrance and the exit. They have a rest room. Staff is apathetic but get the job done. Pretty solid option in the neighborhood- gives you variety, good portions, and mostly healthy! read more

I got the steak bowl with one extra meatball. The steak was dry and sad. The meatball was just ok. Quinoa (my base) was good. Sweet potatoes were bland. I am visiting NYC this week and I really enjoyed eating at Dig Inn. All of the food comes from local farmers. I love that because all of the food is fresh and healthy. You create your own bowl based on the selections they have and it's so flavorful, I did not really need any sort of dressing. One.of my son's and I had a chicken bowl but we picked different sides, my other son had the salmon and let me tell you..it was cooked to perfection. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable and the portions could satisfy the most hearty eaters. This place is all simple in decor, and you seat yourself so do not expect anything fancy. I do not have any complaints other than I wish we had one of these in Raleigh, NC!! read more

Dig Inn is hands-down my favorite quick, casual eatery near Columbia University. There are many healthy and delicious options. I sometimes come here for both lunch and dinner if I'm feeling lazy. The only complaint I have about this specific location is the service. The staff who serve the food do not always treat the customers with respect. Often times I'll ask what one of the side dishes is and they'll roll their eyes and give me a terse, brusque answer. I would not have to ask if there were labels/ signs by all the food options. I placed an online order for pickup this week, and when I got there, I found that none of the workers were wearing masks - not the servers up front or the kitchen staff in back. So weird and irresponsible. I definitely won't be returning unless this changes. Avoid coming late. The selection dwindles and the textures of many of the foods don't keep well. The meatball had this incredibly odd squishy rebound, and the flavor of the bland tomato-based sauce did not penetrate. The kale salad was doused in some oily substance I couldn't place. read more
