I recently took my teen shopping. This business is very deceptive. Two clothing racks were clearly marked with "large font" 30% off, however the small stated print read, only on active tees. The rack displayed shorts and other active wear. I know many businesses do this, yet it's quite frustrating when most apparel items are $50 or more. That said, after spending over $150 on a couple of active shorts, joggers, and a tee that rang up for $45 when the pile of teennext to it were $30, we get home and the cashier must have popped the ink security button thus staining the white joggers. I needed a pair of Nike 270's in children's size 5 and I needed them fast! Just a few days before cheer tryouts my daughter tells me her shoe is "flat" - meaning the air pocket in the sole is punctured and now her gait is uneven. She needs all black sneakers for cheer tryouts next week. She likes this particular shoe. I like to buy it in children's size because it is $40 cheaper than the same shoe in a women's size 6.5. I got her last pair in Canada, and wasn't sure these were even sold in the U.S. I googled them and found ONE pair at Dick's Sporting Goods in Newport Beach. I live in Huntington and could make the trip the next day, so I paid for them online, along some black socks, for pickup. This was after 9:00 p.m. in the evening. In the morning, before the store even opened, I got an email saying "one or more of the items" was ready for pick up. My daughter had cheer practice coming up that afternoon, so I headed over, arriving just after they opened at 9:10. I checked in on my phone (part of the email had this link) and, as I walked in the door, I hit "I am here". I heard the "bing bong" of the doorbell overhead as I walked in. A gentleman greeted me pleasantly and asked if he could help. I said I was here to pick up an order and, hearing the check-in sound overhead, he ran off to get it. Within moments, he was back with my shoes and socks and I was out the door. No fuss, no muss. Quick, friendly, and easy. The guys helping around the store were great but I saw the price on your website for a pair of DSG Men's 6" Agility Woven Shorts was $19.98. Figured you price matched. The guy at the register, Bryant, said the shorts were a different type (same brand) than the ones on the website. Said he had a customer with the same thing earlier in the day. The guy at the counter called the one in tustin and he confirmed they had them, well they didn't. So we checked mission viejo and went down, they didn't have them. I called Newport myself and RJ was the man. He put me on hold checked himself and found 1pair. He was able to hold and I went to get them for my daughter. Disappointing customer service. I January I purchased online a set of kids golf clubs for in store pick up. One of the clubs in the bag was a sand wedge but was supposed to be a five iron. Spoke to customer service asking for them to send the correct club but was told I have to go into the location to get the club switched for the correct one. It was their mistake. Bought a basketball hoop December 18th just in time for my son to enjoy Christmas. Their delivery service TWICE scheduled us and twice no showed. We called the store and spoke to their managers. They claimed they couldn't find the order. I went in last Friday Jan 27 with my son and spoke to Yvette. She promised she would take care of it with their district manager. We finally got a delivery set for Friday Feb 3. Today, Monday Jan 30 we got a call from their delivery service telling us that he has the basketball hoop. He could deliver it only today. Apparently he's from LA and can't come back the rest of the week. My wife and I were both at work and we told delivery people we can only do Friday and made arrangements for Tuesday. Now this delivery guy, Eduardo from Select Express tells us, "take it or leave it. I can drop it off without installation". The store was very big and clean. The workers were very nice. One worker in particular stood out Dean. Even though he mentioned he was pretty new he was the very first one to help us and helped us find everything we needed for my son for baseball! He was very knowledgeable and very helpful which was great for me as a mom I did not know anything! He even got down on the floor to make sure my sons shoes fit correctly! We went to Dick's last night for a pair of walking shoes. The associate who helped us (John) was so amazing. Not only was he juggling at least five customers at the same time, but he was extremely knowledgeable and patient. He brought us multiple pairs of shoes while explaining the pros and cons of each shoe! The manager herself was the cashier and told me it was $17 something (with taxes). I said to her the price on the shelf rack was $12. She said it was 17 (with taxes), and also claimed the sockets may have been misplaced on the rack, totally ignoring what I said. Like it is my problem. Anyway, I walked over to the rack and took a few pictures with price for different colors. I went back to the cashier and showed her the picture and the receipt. The manager said they usually charge per the price label. She did the price reluctantly. Well should you make sure the price on the rack and label on the merchandise agree. I walked into the Dick's in Newport Beach, Fashion Island and received excellent customer service all throughout the store! Firstly, the minute I walked through the front door, I was asked if I could be helped in finding a particular item; then Harrison walked me over to the shoe department and helped me find my size. I continued to shop and what was amazing was Harrison appeared again to offer me a shopping cart so I did not have to hold my items. As I browsed other associates greeted me and also asked me if I needed anything. Upon checking out, the cashier engaged in friendly conversation; he obviously saw by my purchases I was headed to cold weather and inquired about my trip with genuine interest. This is a great location and a nice store. I received a friendly greeting when I walked in and the employee told me about some deals she'd discovered. I had gone in merely to browse at the hydration packs but ended up getting great deals on sports apparel. The dressing rooms were clean and spacious with no waiting. They had a large selection of sizes and colors in the items we were looking at. There was a short wait at the cashier though, as there was only one cashier working at the time. I took those few minutes to walk around while my friend was in line, and I noticed that they have assistance buttons all over the store now. Distichs location is a bit smaller than some of the other local outlets but, given the limited space in a place like Fashion Island, they don't have room for a massive store. It's difficult to be general sporting good store and have something of everything so they do a good job of maintaining a good variety of items for most sports. It is not surprising that they have a very large golf section as well as quite a bit of apparel and shoes. read more

Bought a new hybrid bicycle. Kind of sad that the selection and options available were highly limited. Apparently this store is one of those big box ones - what you see is pretty much what you get. They do have a couple bike technicians available, but I feel that they are pretty short staffed, as I was left alone waiting for the guy to come back for awhile, and he ended up going to help other customers before finishing my bike tune-ups.
