Right around the corner from our Airbnb, I was STOKED to see a Jack's! My family are big big fans of Jack's in San Clemente and look forward to shopping there every year for that trip, so I was stoked about this. This Jack's is split into two almost separate spots, with women's being on one side and men's being on the other. This one definitely had a smaller selection of Rainbow flipflops than what I was used to at the other Jack's location. Which was totally fine. My sister wanted a pair so it was very limited of which ones they had. Thus, I found some for her, but yeah, that was a bit disappointing. BUT I did get a really cute sweatshirt for half off. They always have good deals for sure! It was only $25 for it. We also got baby boy a t-shirt he will have to grow into haha. But of course he needed one! We came back the next day to get my husband something, too. He wanted a t-shirt, too. We also got a towel for $5 since we spent over $100 which was pretty cool. Definitely will be bringing that to the beach next year. The girl that checked us out was nice, but I didn't really see any other staff walking around to help people out even though it was pretty busy. read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Family and I drove up from San Diego to do our annual back to school shopping at Jack's Surf Boards. Was in the store for hours and not one person offered to help us. With hands full of garments to purchase we were met by a clerk who was on the phone asking around for a pair of Quicksilver shorts for a customer. We waited and waited as she just stood there on a phone not speaking to anyone. We watched her clearly use her cell phone while she was on the store phone. After over 10 minutes I asked her if she could ring us up since she was just standing there. She said "Not really because I'd have to move." I then asked "Please call someone else up to ring us up." She gave out a ridiculous sigh and then motioned for us to move over to the open register. While she ran us up there was no apology no thank you for spending hundreds of dollars here. If we weren't purchasing back to school clothes I would've left. The clerk jeopardized our large purchase so she would stand there and use her cell phone. She was so rude and disrespectful my teenage sons wanted to leave. We've been going here for 17 years and I fear this will be our last time visiting. read more

Really frightening experience and ROTTEN employee help. My friend cut himself on a clothing tag. It was a deep cut and was bleeding profusely. I immediately asked for help. The employee said he would get to it after he finished with another customer in the dressing room. I begged him to help and he said I'll be there when I finish up with my customer. So another customer went to the desk to get / help, bandaid. They had no bandaids in the store at all. My friend had to use a paper towel to mop up the blood and try to stop the cut from bleeding profusely. Eventually an employee went next door and got bandaids In the end all they said was that my friend take care of himself. BTW when we were shopping NO ONE WOULD HELP US! I don't get the hate here. Lol. Yes, some employees could be a tad more "friendly", sure. But what do you expect from a retail employee making ends meet? You want a first date experience? How's your day? What are you doing tonight? Cut that crap. Never had an issue with a return policy here, I've even returned stuff that didn't have a tag or a receipt. Guys have been relatively helpful, but I'd rather ask for help than have someone follow me around as I'm browsing asking me every 5 seconds if there's anything I need help with. They're pretty well stocked recently, tons of stuff, always good sales if you know, you know. Smaller than the CDM location but still fully loaded with all things surf lifestyle. Would go to Jack's Surfboards in the mid-90's, but haven't been in over 20 yrs. Won't be coming back that's for sure. None of the staff seem enthused to even work there. No one asked if I needed any assistance. Tourists/ Families faired no better as they kept looking for someone to help and all I saw were staff members either standing around or focused like robots on folding. The selection of surfing and bodyboarding gear was mediocre at best. Majority of the store is clothing and Jack's Surfboard clothing at that with countless of designs which you couldn't even see them all. Might be a good idea to hang them up on the walls to see the graphics. What once used to be a local surf shop has transformed into a commercial and lack luster version of its former self. Purchased an item for $285. My account had not one but three Auth holds for $285. So essentially I made a $285 purchase but more than $600 of my money is inaccessible due to their duplicate Auth holds. I placed the order 4 days ago..nothings processed and all of my attempts to have the excess money released have fallen on deaf ears ( I've emailed multiple times, reached out on social and all forms of communication have been ignored). This put a damper ob my black Friday shopping, I had a prenatal appointment and bloodwork appointment that I had to pay out of pocket for. We just dumped $180 of merch to go find a bathroom, because they don't have bathrooms for paying customers, and neither does anyone else in that strip mall. Drove out here Memorial Day with my kid , to get a wetsuit . Found a late season O'Neil to purchase . About 2 years old model . Dosent really matter but for perspective on the situation I'll include that it's a 2 year old season model . When I got up to the counter they didn't honored the tagged price but charged me more then advertised on oneills website . Didn't bother telling me if it was missed tagged . Gentleman that helped me out scratched the tag off and when I went back to ask they couldn't find the price tag on it or had much of an answer for me . So I had them refund me . Very unpleasant and shady experience. I understand some of the employees are young and don't have much customer service experience or pride for what they do yet but no excuse . Incredibly hurtful racist experience. I went to the women's side with my daughter and my husband went to the men's side with our son. The staff was ok, it was other customers who were so rude. As I was checking out with my $300 purchase, a white lady said "what a cute baby, that's just too bad" - I turned around and knew exactly what she meant given that we are Hispanic (and proud ) She must have thought I don't speak English, which is such an ignorant assumption. Or, she was that racist and just didn't care to make that type of a comment even if it involved a child. On the other side of the store, my son was walking around with his hands inside his hoodie (something many kids do) and one teen who claimed to be a staff member but who kept walking back and forth from the donut shop, told him to take his hands out of his pockets "shoplifting doesn't work here man". As educated and love filled human beings, we walked away peacefully and will never return to such a store. Now that I see the other reviews, it all makes sense. I have been surfing for nearly a half century) had a big attitude... maybe he was still stoned from the night before. They did not have warm temp Sex Wax... really in the middle of summer. Your Newport peninsula store sucks... your CDM store is much, much better in terms of service, friendliness and overall retail marketing. I waited for a long time (nine months) after my last experience in this store to write my review. I thought that perhaps the passage of time might alleviate my intensely negative impression of that experience, but... I was mistaken. Regardless of their decently impressive selection of retail goods, the customer service is lackluster at best and offensive at its worst. It's really too bad that the employees at Jack's are so rude. Yeah, they have some cool stuff for sale, but they're far more interested in locking their doors early at closing time than they are in helping a paying customer. In January, I was looking to buy a pair of men's flip-flop sandals for a gift which I intended to mail the following day. I pulled in to the parking lot at 7:45 PM, which is fifteen minutes before closing time at Jack's. I recognize that I didn't leave myself a large window of time to leisurely shop, but that's not what I was there to do. I knew exactly what I was looking for and what my price range was, and made a beeline for the wall of men's sandals as soon as I walked through the doors. There were three or four employees congregating near the cash register, talking amongst themselves and laughing as if there was nothing left to be done before locking up for the night. Apparently, management needs to keep a closer watch on store closing practices. At any rate, they stopped talking to each other and started giving me some b.s. line about how they had already closed out all of the registers, telling me I should come back the next day. I just kept walking towards the wall of shoes. The young man who seemed to be in charge was bright enough to ascertain that I was not leaving without what I had come there for, so after audibly sighing and making his reluctance very clear, he finally put one of the registers back into action so that he could ring up my purchase. I made my selection quickly and without any fuss, and I managed to remain polite even to the snarky brunette who was glaring at me as though I had completely ruined her night by patronizing the store she works in. Gee, I'm so sorry... how rude of me to occupy less than seven minutes of your on-the-clock time, during normal hours of store operation, spending money in the store that issues your paycheck! It was 7:52 PM when I got back in to my car and drove away from Jack's, eight minutes before they're supposed to even think about locking the doors and turning a customer away. I'm giving one star for the young man who (albeit begrudgingly) rang me up, and one for the fact that whomever owns Jack's Surfboards wasn't there to knock some sense into the employees working that night. It isn't fair to say that the reason for a typically shoddy attitude from employees of surf shops is because those employees are surfers, because I know plenty of surfers with perfectly good manners. Therefore i want to generally be left alone, though when help is approached in the right way, I really do appreciate it. When you overhear staff talking about products and their merits, you know they are invested in the store; it's not like they are just selling clothes that they could care less about. You generally work in a surf shop because you dig surfing (or a related activity). I didn't buy anything, but you bet your ass if I do need to go into a physical location, it's going to be Jacks. This place is the best for the coolest clothes under one roof. It's authentic and lots of unique stuff - like the village of NYC. The staff is young and come across as grateful to have jobs with a service attitude (unlike some stores where it's like they're doing you a favor and some with a chip on their shoulder equating good customer service to servitude). Yesterday morning while shopping for items for my nephews, I was being shadowed by one of your young employees, who at one point was right behind me and I accidentally hit him. I was told it was a semi famous store in nweport for surf stuff, and me being the amazing person that I am, within about 20 minutes of arriving at our beach house in newport for the week managed to break my sunglasses!!!! And what is a beach trip without sunglasses??? CRAP, that's what. So I went here with my brother because he also is super cool and didn't bring flip flops to our beach trip! (can't you tell we are related?? ha ha). He came out successful in our adventure and I did not...They have quite a selection of flip flops here!! And they aren't all the $50 rainbows or reefs, and my brother managed to find the most comfortable flip flops he has ever owned here for around $20!!! So he was pretty excited. My problem, was that the sunglasses I liked were....$96 paul franks. They were REALLY cute and the cashier was really helpful in finding me a pair that flattered my face, and I was in love.....but needed going out money for the week....so I left empty handed and my brother left with happier feet. All in all a nice store, a little cramped and not much space between the racks and all because they have shoved as many things as possible in here....they have boards, wet suits, pretty much anything a beach lover would want or need, so if you get in a jam like we did!
