If I could give "0" stars for customer service I would. Apart from the store being clean and organized the customer service was terrible. I wasn't greeted upon walking in or at checkout. This review is strictly for customer service- I just left the store (2:11 pm - receipt has "CA Training" under cashier). I made purchases for lifeguard shirt & shorts. There were no signs there was one line so I stood in line. While I thought I was next in line the cashier announced "next in line". This cashier made eye contact yet didn't tell there was one line - clearly she didn't think I was worth helping. No apologies when it was our turn. Either she was clueless or could care less. If it were possible to choose zero stars I would. There was a metal spoke sticking out from a shelf that I walked into and it caused me to bruise and bleed. It was sticking out 5 inches. It should not have been there at all. What is worse the staff tried to justify why it was wrongfully put there and they didn't try to fix the problem at all. Out of the six people at the location who were working that day, not even one person was helpful. I asked for help with shopping, no one lifted a finger to relieve me of my confusion or assist me in finding what I needed. I am very disappointed with the way that I was treated. I am not someone who usually leaves negative posts, but I was appalled by the way that I felt after leaving the store disgusted and physically injured. The managers name that day was Julie. Wow is this even a real retail store? Horrible customer service. Had to ask to see sunglasses. Wouldn't you think they want to sell $165 glasses? Walked in and it was packed. Half the employees had masks either completely off or down under their noses. Staff wasn't monitoring mask wear in the store and almost NO customers had their masks up. No social distancing was enforced as well and both customers and employees consistently would push past me because of how packed the store was. Did not feel safe the entire time. read more

I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, no other customers at the counter and there are 4 girls "working" behind the counter chatting amongst each other ignoring me as I'm waiting to buy a gift card. Finally I get a snotty "Did you need something?!" from one of them. I almost just walked out but the person I was buying gift card for likes the clothes here so I bit my tongue and went through with transaction. I will not be back. I always come in here to get my older kids their clothes and occasionally pick up the odd item for myself. I love the selection of clothes that they have and I always find the service from the staff excellent. Some stores that have younger staff can feel intimidating , but I never find that whenever I go to Jack's. I mainly visit the CDM store but have enjoyed shopping at their other locations. NB and DP if I'm in the area. I haven't visited the HB store yet, but one day I hope to pay it a visit if I'm over that way. read more

If it were up to those strapping young men who sometimes hang onto me when I'm feeling loose with my wallet, they'd give this place TEN STARS. That's how they feel when they leave here, laden with shopping bags overflowing with board shorts, flip flops, t-shirts, flippers, sunglasses, skate shoes... It's Christmas for them every time we walk into this place. I was a customer for over 25 years and they do not offer local discount anymore so I decided to take my loyalty elsewhere. They also advertise sales and do not print or post all exclusions. I purchased today and discovered I was greatly overcharged, and when I went to correct the matter, I was confronted with a very unprofessional attitude by a young princess and it made me never want to come back here. Dropped by looking for some swim fins. Was immediately greeted at the front desk. Ended up getting helped by a sales assistant named Joey with the fins. He was really knowledgeable and patient while I tried a few on and ultimately decided on a pair. Prices were refreshingly the same as or lower than what I had seen on Amazon. I love coming here! I often visit this Jacks since I work nearby and the staff are always friendly and willing to help you with your shopping needs. I recently purchased a hat that I needed a specific size for and the manager, Amanda, was super helpful! She called 2 other stores for me and reserved the hats on hold for me to pick up and try on before I purchased them. Awesome customer service! Stopped in here just the other day to look into a few 7' soft tops and spoke with a gentleman at the back counter for some time. He was extremely nice and informative on multiple products and wasn't trying to sell me anything I didn't need. Lots of awesome finds in the store & location is good. Not a huge fan of the customer service. Looks like a bunch of teenagers who appear to feel privileged. Super friendly with each other but cold shouldered with the customers. Asked a couple questions and felt super shut down by the girl at the cashier.. She seemed to be bothered to be helping (I mean it's her job ?). Most of the workers were kind of lingering in certain parts of the store. I could just spend all my money here. This store has a really great selection of everything. I went today, got a great cardigan, flip flops for me and my 2 year old. I love it when Jacks has their 20% off sales, they did over the holidays, not today.. but its cool. Very large mens dept / womens dept. Decent for kids. Shoes / Sunglasses / Surf gear - wet suits / boards / decks / ear buds. Those cool cameras you can clip on to surf boards and bike helmets to film the stuff you are doing. They have some jewelry, sunscreen.. I really like this place and they open at 9am !! love that too. Customer service has greatly improved I am also pleased to report. I was shopping for my 3 boys and needed some specific items / brands. Jacob was amazing! It felt like he was my own personal shopper. He couldn't have been more helpful! He was engaged and attentive. He looked high and low for the items and even made excellent suggestions. I purchased a lot more than I set out to buy, because of the excellent customer service. I came in after dinner wanting to look for some extra Christmas gifts. I walked in and not one person greeted me. All three sales associates were at the register on their phones. I walked around for about 15 mins and the store was a disaster. Clothing on the floor, items shoved into different places, and overall just a mess and overwhelming. The employees here aren't very helpful. They're typical CDM high school kids, who just got back from the beach. However, the store is huge and has everything from graphic t-shirts to actual surfboards. I recently visited the 20% off sale, which applied to everything in store! They have a great selection of local Southern California designers at competitive prices and they have several store locations in OC, but the CdM store offers the largest variety of merchandise. read more

With any purchase make sure you talk to them about how they handle warranty issues. I bought a Shark Classic Tide watch ($110 watch) from them 2 days ago and the first time it touched water (today) it broke/died. I called Jacks in hopes they would do the right thing and help with the "process" (at the very least provide store credit or an exchange considering they are selling this crap) but they brushed me off and directed me to work with the manufacturer... "we don't handle warranty issues". If i knew this would be the outcome, I would have just ordered it directly from the manufacturer (and probably saved some money too). read more

This particular Jack's is surprisingly LARGE!! I was very surprised to see how much inventory they carry. It was quite nice to have a sizable selection of clothing to choose from, especially if you're into casual beach wear. But the one thing that REALLY impressed me was the "wall of TOMS". Yes, you heard right. They have a HUGE wall of TOMS shoes with a HUGE inventory with a variety of sizes available in almost every color you can think of. They even have some of the limited edition TOMS shoes. Now, I personally don't wear TOMS, but every female in Southern California seems to be ranting and raving about how they want, own, or obsess over TOMS shoes -- my girlfriend, nieces, and friends included. So, naturally I'm always on the hunt for TOMS shoes in specific colors and sizes every time a female's birthday rolls around. Since my new found discovery of the holy grail of TOMS shoes at Jack's, I am now super happy that I no longer have to go on an expedition just to hunt down a specific shoe; which if I may add, has been wholly glamorized into an irrational trendy obsession by what is seemingly the entire female population. BUT, I still cave-in for those who are deserving and mean the world to me. Wait... crap... I just realized I shared my holy grail with the whole world.
