If Big 5 were an Olympic sport, Mike would be taking home the solid gold. Went in feeling completely lost, but Mike navigated the aisles like an absolute legend, found exactly what I needed in record time, and saved my weekend. Give this guy a raise and a championship ring! 10/10. read more

Nice people who are very helpful. Kudos to management for creating a happy work environment!

Came in to return something and finally get the right item. Huge thanks to Mike for all the help, and to Jake for his mathematical register superpowers that put the cherry on top of my shopping experience for the great low price as well! Thank you guys -- I'll definitely be coming back again, like always. read more

Michael was very helpful. I went in and shopped for an order and he was very helpful with finding items.

I always have a great experience at Big 5! The store is well-organized, making it easy to find what I need whether it's shoes, outdoor gear, or sports equipment. Prices are fair and they often have great sales. The staff is friendly, but I wanna say a huge thank you to the young gentleman in the front Armando new but very helpful , and willing to help and gives great customer service I recently stopped in for hiking boots, and they not only helped me find the perfect fit but also suggested socks that made a huge difference in comfort. I'll definitely keep coming back!!! read more

I have been to this location a few times. I stopped at Big 5 to check out some sporting goods. Pretty crowded here yesterday with folks purchasing Dodger clothing for their championships. I came here to get some sports items I use for my workouts at home and the gym. Nice store and good service. Always a pleasure. read more

The grand kid tells me his old boogy board got crunched at the Huntington Beach outing and please be able to get a new one for an upcoming vacation? Big 5 Sporting Goods on Harbor Blvd is a big store and I am sure they will have plenty to choose from. We went inside and were greeted and sent to the side of the store where the boards are located. When we got there we were somewhat disappointed because there was only three boards on display, two different companies. We looked at features and size. He selected the one that was light grayish in color and thought the feel and size would best fit. Done, good choice, and we go to the front to pay. The young lady Mariana was very helpful and smiled when I showed her my email from Big 5 for a discount. Thanks for the experience and actually made it easier to select from the fewer boards on display. read more

I can always count on Big 5 for last minute sports supplies. Customer service is great. Prices are also great.

Needed some white volleyball shoes for my kid. I called and the gentleman who answered the phone was courteous and quick to help me. He found the shoes and put them on hold for me. At the store everyone was polite and quick to help. It's refreshing to get great service now a days, specially from young people. read more

I wanted to express some heartfelt appreciation to Josh, Jesse and Ben, who really came through for me today! I was in a bind picking up some snorkeling gear before flying out to Maui first thing in the morning. These guys provided some excellent customer service in helping me find what I needed at the last minute right before my trip. Helpful on the phone and helpful in the store. Thanks for staying a couple minutes past closing to help me out. Hope you enjoyed the strawberries. ;) -Aloha, Jen read more

Big 5....man have I spent a boat load of money in this place. Never occurred to yelp it but hey, let's see what happens!? Okay so, how do we approach this? By section I guess... Swimming: good for goggles, ear plugs and toys. Not so much trunks and fins. Shoes: loads of shoes, mostly crap but some good deals can be found. Good luck finding your size! Weights: excellent place to buy weights. Camping: pretty damn legit. Not exactly REI but it probably has what you came for and it's probably cheap. Ammo and guns: pretty weak. Not a great selection of fire arms or ammo and what they do have is either cheap quality (guns) or to expensive (ammo). They usually have pretty nice knives for cheap. The rest of the store is kinda the same. They generally have what you're looking for, just the cheap versions of everything. Customer service: this is usually someone's first job and almost always their first managers job. I've never seen the same person twice leaving me to believe they have unreal turnover. As long as you keep your expectations low, you probably won't be disappointed. And oh ya, you can buy a fishing license here! read more

I love Big 5! They usually have pretty good customer service if you just ask. I like supporting a local business. I miss that they are not at their other location, but I am very thankful that they are still in business! We try to always buy our support staff there before going anywhere else can read more

So I was near this big 5 and needed gloves. Went in and showed my coupon and couldn't get it because the date was not on the picture, it had the barcode but the cashier didn't even attempt to scan it to see if it would have work . She stated that it was company policy when i have been going to other big 5 sporting goods and done it the same way and was always accepted. Bad policy or bad customer service..( first and last ) read more

Found online that there was a pellet gun in stock at this location. Called numerous times to verify if they had it in stock but the phone lines were busy the whole time. So I drove over an hour and a half to get it. When I got there, they checked and said the online system was wrong and they were out, when I asked the manager if there was anything she can do, she just shrugged her shoulders and said the only thing she could do was to try to have one shipped from out of state but would take 3-4 days then I would need to drive back to get it. Horrible customer service, faulty online systems and people wonder why big 5 is going out of business. Last time I come to a big 5. read more

Was trying to take a look at some of the shotguns - couldn't get the time of day from Brennan (or Brennen). He was too busy sitting, so I get it - but some customer service would have been nice. All I wanted to do was take the Firearms Safety Certificate test. They informed me to take the test I also needed to purchase a gun (lol wtf). I agreed to the odd terms because all the other stores are closed. So they told me to wait for the blonde girl who is the only one who could help me. Anyways, after waiting for 20 mins for the gun specialist (blonde girl) in the firearms section said she would "help me next". Instead she made me wait over an hour while she hid in the back taking care of who knows what ...probably with the hope that I would give up and leave. She succeeded. This is probably why she took off her name tag lol. If you like having your chain yanked for hours and treated like a piece of trash I highly recommend this store! Oh and while I was waiting some thief robbed the store and punched someone in the face (which would never have happened if they had attentive/trained employees) If I owned this place, people would be losing their jobs. read more

I wish you had more locations or were closer in distance. You're the first establishment I think of for any type of sporting goods. We went in a bit lost as to what we needed in fishing poles and tackle. I can't remember the gentleman's name, but he helped us choose just the right reasonably priced poles. He understood our needs perfectly and didn't try to oversell us on anything. He even rigged one of the poles for us and was so pleasant. Will definitely be back for other purchases. read more

Your coupon system sucks .. i had a 10$ off 50$ purches. Small store crammed full of stuff but hard to find anything didnt have what I need so I have to go elsewhere

Worst customer service ever. You're better off at a different sports store. Got a coupon for $10 off $50 or more. Some level of "manager" named Ben would not accept it because it was off my phone. Said it has to be a paper coupon, even though they emailed it to me. Just wanted to give us a hard time the entire step of the way. Corporate needs to get rid of this guy. read more

Wow!!! In attentive is an understatement. Family of four hung around shoe department like loitering vagrants for about 15 minutes waiting for some help. We gave up. Upon approaching with items we are purchasing I said to the checkout girl (Angelica). "I feel as if we could have strolled out the doors with our merchandise and no one would have noticed". Angelica didn't even bat an eye. At this point I felt the need to escalate my comments. I said, " Angelica, this is going to be a strong Yelp review". Still nothing from Angelica. Not sure if she's vacant, or if she's suffering from a major medical illness, possibly a stroke. This family of four entered with a dream of new shoes, but left sad and broken people. I now sit in the Big Five parking lot typing this review still with sore feet. #shoelesssoulesssadness read more

After going to this big 5 I can tell why brick and mortar stores are going out of business. Tried to pick up a pair of football gloves and was told that there were some in the back but It was too far back in storage to get. If you have inventory go and get It and sell It to a customer who is willing to pay. I've never heard of a retail store that had inventory to sell but didn't want to sell It because the box was hard to get in storage. My advice is call before you go to the store. Won't be shopping here again that's for sure. read more
