I am having some foot issues and decided it was time to see if Birkenstocks would be good for my feet. Darcy was the sales associate and was wonderful and knew a lot about the challenge I am facing and recommended the style that she thought would work best. The store was pretty busy but I felt well taken care of the whole time. I called the store owner, Marius, a couple days ago asking if they had a size available in store and explained that I ordered a wrong size online. The owner on the phone reassured me that not only do they have the size available, he would also put it on hold for me and match the 10% discount I used online. Today, while I was checking out, the employee made a quick phone call to confirm that the owner was okay with matching the discount online. Now, he's suddenly not okay with it, doesn't remember the phone call, and is charging full price after I traveled to their store. I didn't buy the shoes out of principle. It's evident why this business is riddled with 1 star reviews, and I think that maybe you should think twice before supporting this conniving and deceitful business owner. read more

I went into the Birkenstock store to buy some super birki's and I came out so satisfied. I got the super birki 2.0 for work as I wanted something more comfortable to walk around it. Darcy was so sweet and she is very knowledgeable with Birkenstocks. She measured my foot to make sure I had the right size. I am a size 7-7.5 and I wasn't sure to go a size smaller as that's what I was reading in the Internet. She reassured me that size 38 was right for me. She was very patient and even went above and beyond by taking the insoles out of the shoes and showing me the difference in both sizes. This made me feel very comfortable and helped me make my decision to go with my true size. Darcy and I also bonded over my line of work and her personal experiences which made the services even more thoughtful. The shoes are of good value. Went to a Nordstrom at South Coast to find a pair of Birkenstocks since I've heard they were really comfortable shoes, I ended up walking out due to their negative customer service and horrible help finding the right size since they come in EU sizes. Drove about 5 minutes down the street and found this location, amazing help from the misses running the place I didn't catch her name, she was helping 3 customers at once and still managed to find me a comfortable style and pair while maintaining a positive attitude and great customer service. As a first time buyer of Birkenstocks and needing assistance to find the perfect pair for me I would definitely say to visit this location! Great customer service and value overall. I decided to give Birkenstock a look after hearing great things about the brand and also the orthopedic features. The staff had been extremely friendly and patient, as I had arrived relatively close to closing time on a weekend but did not get rushed through trying different types of shoes. I ended up going with the Arizona style in oiled leather which seems to be the standard for this particular brand. After a couple weeks of breaking in the shoe, I could really see how the shoe bed really supported my feet and made for a comfortable experience. I ended up deciding to purchase (online) a pair of Boston clog style shoes in oiled leather. The manager/owner was very welcoming of letting me bring my Boston's into the store to get an extra hole punched out for the buckle, as I needed just a bit width to my shoe to fit comfortably. I'm really happy with the service and product and would certainly recommend anyone interested in the brand to check out this store. The hours may be slightly limited, but it's well worth a stop for high quality shoes. read more

Yes he prefers you wear a sock and it's no wonder - it keeps the shoes nice for the next person in case you don't buy it. This is pretty common for most upscale shoe stores. I am hoping to get my first pair of Birkenstocks so my husband looked online and found this place. I went in today to see what was in stock, to see what I liked and to try on a pair to see what size I would be. Let me tell you about my experience... I walked in with an older gentleman ahead of me. The owner came out from the back and greeted him but not me. I saw one I liked on the shelf and grabbed it to try it on. The owner then startled me and said we have nylon socks to try on and rudely handed me one. I apologized for not knowing. After I tried one on, I asked how much it was and he said the price and then he was going to measure my foot. I told him the display fit and asked if he had any in stock. He said "yeah those" pointing to the display. If I am going to pay a lot of money for those, I am not paying for the display. He then rudely grabbed the sandal out of my hand and put it back on the shelf and walked away. He then continued to help the older gentleman and ignored me. So I left. I am not willing to spend money at a small business if I am being treated rudely for no reason. Wish I would have read these reviews first. I would have skipped out on going to the shop today. Opinions are like a-holes... everyone has one. Don't believe the one star reviews. They are just all sour grapes. John is awesome! He took the time and was very helpful. There is a supply chain issues so know that. But he will do everything he can to take care of you. I am a quadriplegic and needed help trying on the shoes and he was more than helpful. He punched new holes for me because I needed them a little wider. I took them to another shoe guy that I use because I needed some more modifications, and he actually charged me for. A couple more holes. I did not know what I needed. Regardless, john is great. He doesn't upcharge. I thought I would be paying more but it's the same whether you buy them straight from Birkenstock or not. anyhow, John is awesome and does what he can to take care of the customer. read more

I ended up with a pair of the leather Arizona sandals in tabacco brown as my first pair. i'm totally stoked with my purchase and the service here so I will definitely return to get a different style in a couple months if they end up breaking in nicely!! read more

I am more than a little frustrated by the comments I see here. I got my first pair of Birks from John about 6 months ago. I love them, wear them constantly and because of that just got them resoled. When I seek assistance in a store I have a big smile, I ask how the salesperson is and I engage in pleasant conversation as part of the purchase process. Almost without exception, the sales person has a big smile on their face, asks how I am, does the same and is very attentive. I am almost always very, very (blue collar) dressed down, very casual and I am not pretentious and polite. The result is that I consistently get amazing service. I see a lot of negative comments here regarding John at the Costa Mesa store and I can tell you he is highly knowledgeable about the Birkenstock line and was extremely helpful to me. My read is that John is very proud and meticulous about his store. He is probably a bit anal retentive about how things are done, and that is a flaw and yes he is a bit quirky, but hey, we are all different. Thank God. I am an old f*cker compared to most Yelp posters and frankly I am sad and ashamed of the impatience I see reflected is so many posts. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but social media amplifies everything, It is as if one bad posting feeds another to satisfy some primal need to reinforce and justify self worth. Orange county has so many entitled, impatient people. Unfortunately, too many are so narcissistic and self absorbed that they are unable to see that what they project; their demands, arrogance and impatience, is easily discerned by those they are dealing with, and is a reflection of who they are and not who they are dealing with. It may take effort and self control for you to be outgoing, friendly, patient, understanding and kind. Try it. The results are amazing. BTW. I learned today that worldwide demand for Birkenstock products has been so high that many sizes are no longer in stock anywhere. This impacts merchants like John. Please support him.
