I've seen a lot of bad reviews about Blends, and I think the store definitely gets a bad wrap. I've read bad reviews about how unattentive the employees are and how the don't even act like they care. I'm here to tell you that this just isn't true, the people there are more than welcome to help you out, they just don't bombard you with questions right as you walk in. Everyone likes different things, but me personal I don't like being asked several question (that's just me though). They'll ask you if you need anything and that's all they really need to say. This review is solely based on my online shopping experience. Ordered an item on Thursday but never received confirmation which seemed suspect. Made contact yesterday using a number on their site and was told that I should send an email. Sent the email simply asking for an order confirmation as well as an ETA. Come to find out today that the order was cancelled. No email reply, no explanation. Whatever the case, you don't need sharp business acumen to utilize some decent form of customer courtesy. Blends is a good place to check out if you are looking for men's shoes that are in limited release, harder to find or old school. They have various styles but the weird thing is they only have them in 1 or 2 sizes. I would say that out of the 10 times my BF & I have come, he's liked a pair 7 times and only 2 times they had his size (which was average). It's actually been pretty frustrating. Nothing has ever been on sale or marked down that I have seen either, but you can tell that they are trying to go for a premium or boutique style store so that's expected. We really never had an issue with the price, just availability of sizes and they have been unable (or unwilling because they always said no) to order what we wanted. What's on display is pretty much THE pair that's for sale and if you're lucky, they'll have one other size in the back. Service is MEH. It's a chill place, which is nice. The guys working aren't very interested in you but it's like in an "I'm too cool to smile" kind of way lol. Their demeanor leaves you wondering if they are a customer or an employee...we never got greeted, or eye contact made, not until we had a question and approached them. You'll get what I mean when you see the vibe. We never took offense to it. Some people may want a higher level of service but they won't get it here. We liked the store because it you'd find styles you otherwise wouldn't see at a mall. Location & Parking - The store is located in the LAB and sometimes parking be super tight in their lot. We have always managed to find something but it does fill up. Cost/Service - Pricey (to be expected) and ok service, nothing to gripe about. Where stars get knocked for me is that they don't have the stock. We would have purchased a pair nearly every time we were in there...that leaves you disappointed and the business loses the sale. read more

There are a lot of really silly reviews on Blends in Costa Mesa. My dude down there compared it to flight club lol... Here is a realistic experience that you can come to expect. If you are a casual shopper and have never been or seldom go into the store, dont expect it to be like a Nordstrom. It's not. The guys are laid back and are more than happy to help you, but aren't happy go lucky super chipper butterflies that you find from people working on commission. You ask, they help. That's it. If you're a regular custormer, they're really cool and chop it up. They generally remember their regulars. If you're going for a hype release, dont expect a red carpet. They know as well as you and every other person in line, that 80 percent of the people going for the release are looking for an easy come up on $100. With that in mind, dont go to these hyped releases feeling entitled. No one owes you anything... Better advice, dont go to hype releases at all.Regardless of what release you go to that has any resell value, its going to be a circus. I would purchase more from this place but I find myself in interesting situations where I just end up buying the shoes elsewhere... Was able to find a Gosha piece which caught my eye. Blends is one of the Few sneaker shops that's actually run by true sneaker heads! I'm from the east coast and this place reminds me of shops from home. They don't have tons of exclusives, but they do have somethings that you can't find at most stores. The prices are reasonable and the design is fresh. It's basically a convenient store drink cooler filled with shoes. I appreciate a very simplistic selection when I'm shopping. I like the feel of opening the door and grabbing the "cool" kicks. Terrible raffle experience at Blends Costa Mesa! On their IG page they stated they would be giving raffle tickets out from 8-9 and the raffle would start at 9:15! 9 o'clock hit and they are still handing out tickets. I asked one of the guys why and he said "oh we said as long as you're in line by 9 we'd give those people tickets" I said no you guys said the raffle would start at 9:15. His response was "Oh, well we have more people than expected so we going to keep handing out tickets!" My problem with that is that is a slap in the face to the people they came and sat out there for hours to make sure we got a ticket during the listed hours of 8-9! So all these now all the last minute people have a chance to join the raffle too! Not cool! We could've all stayed sleep and should up at 8:55 and still got a ticket! Whoever runs the instagram is terrible with communication because there always seems to be something different going on with each store vs. what the Instagram says. And they also just got caught rigging the raffles at one of the locations, so potentially about to lose their Nike license. Really cool place to browse for fresh sneakers. John approached me for my opinion on these just been released: minty baby blue color sneakers with a shimmery coat, in the air max, wedge sneakers, and hightop flat Nikes, for women. They were fresh as phuck. But I had just purchased 3 pairs of shoes so I can only drool over them and give him my input. My sister ended up buying the air max pair and she loves it! Anyways, there are huge selections on different style sneakers and shoes on the wall shelves and inside refrigerator style casings for shoes (check out the photo). Just had a bad experience and I'll try to sum it up in hopes of saving someone else a trip to the store in the future... I bought some shoes online, and after they arrived I immediately did not like them and knew I wanted to return them. First thing I did was call the store and asked what I could do in terms of a return or an exchange instore, and I was told I could mail them back for a full refund or bring them into the store for store credit/exchange. On my first attempt to exchange the shoes instore, I was told by the store clerk I could exchange them under normal circumstances but their computers were down since the power was out in the building. No biggie, I figured I could make the 25 mile trek again since there were a few pairs I could exchange for. Today, I made the trip again, and the first store clerk who approached me said I could exchange the shoes for something in store or mail them back for a full refund, basically confirming what I was told the first time I called in to inquire about exchanges & returns. When I found the pair I wanted in my size, the second store clerk told myself( and the first clerk) the shoes could not be exchanged and I would have to mail them in for a refund, basically contradicting what I was told on three separate instances: 1. The first time I called in 2. The first time I tried to exchange them instore & the power was out 3. The second time I tried to exchange them and the initial clerk told me I could exchange them for something I wanted that they have in stock My main gripe is that there is no communication within the staff, and so far two employees indicated I could exchange the shoes I purchased online for something instore, and the third employee overruled them both and sent me on my way packing, even though I was in the store, with a pair I purchased from their website and wanted to exchange it for something they had in my size at that moment. Not worth it. I've been coming to this store for over 10 years and watched it being built and sent alot of OG Niketalkers to Nobu & co. back in the day cause of their retail pricing, good selection, etc. but this single experience has been such a cluster F that I can easily take my business elsewhere in the future, and their confusing return/exchange policy that (evidently) some of the employees don't even know about. I this place 3 stars for it's current state, but I'd give it an extra star if I were to base it off of how it was long ago when this was my go to spot. I'm just old school I guess. Do they have great shoes? Yes. Great price? Megh. Customer service? Nowadays it's megh as well. If you don't care and just want your kicks fix, then come here. If you're willing to drive 20 minutes, call up Proper to see if they have what you're looking for first, it may be cheaper and people are cooler. I used to be an absolute regular at Blends when they pretty much only had three people running this spot, Jeremy, Nobu, and Gary. This was back in '03, '04ish. I would come here on an afternoon and just chat it up with them about kicks, but actually more about life outside of shoes. They were that cool. Since then, the sneakergame has blown up and become over saturated. All these new kids wearing colorful camo and over-hyped shoes started taking over, and over time, I feel like the type of customers walking started to reflect in the types of people working here. Didn't see the three original people that I mentioned above for a long time, and instead it was these kids wearing painted on pants, thinking way to highly of themselves. They just carried themselves poorly. This place definitely looks like a high end sneaker boutique, and in the beginning, the employees made it feel more like a local mom and pop shop, easy to talk to dudes. Nowadays, with the exception of Nobu, I feel like the employees judge you when you walk in. I'm not going to knock the store for evolving with the market, but atleast keep the employees grounded as to create a better vibe. Enough of the social ranting, more on the shoes. They carry all the quickstrikes, limited editions, and popular releases from all brands such as Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Vans, etc. They have an SB account as well. Pretty good overall selection. The display of course, is probably the most original I've seen. Sneaks in the fridge is a nice touch. Line control during heavy releases (such as Jordan drops) are pretty good from what I've heard. Shoes are slightly marked up from what I've seen, by about 10%. Why? I don't know. They do have a sales section if you're willing to wait it out and patient enough for the price to drop, but they might not have you size left. They also have these massive quarterly or semiannual sales to clear up inventory space which is pretty nice. You can always find a deal here at that time. Once upon a time, this girl was a sneakerhead. Then life happened, and she had bills to pay and "business casual" clothes to buy. So her sneaker obsession had to take a backseat. I will still drool over the occasional pair of Jordans, but the funds have had to be allocated elsewhere. Back in the height of my addiction, Blends was one of my favorite dealers in Orange County. You're really just drawn in by the display. Like a kid in the ice cream aisle - really, they have it set up like all kinds of flavors behind glass cases that you open up like grocery store freezers. Just cool. They often have kicks on sale in the next room over, but just as sales go, size options are limited. Blends doesn't necessarily have the rarest of the rare, but they definitely have a better selection than your average Footlocker, and the employees here are knowledgeable and passionate about sneaks. You won't feel pressured and they won't hover over you - You're in good hands when you try on shoes, and if you have any questions, they can answer them. So I say, go forth and buy sneakers. I ask the employees here for recommendations all the time and even how to dress with the shoes. They always have time to answer and really have my interests in mind when making recommendations. Chris, the manager, and Blends's staff have always been helpful and provide their honest feedbacks whenever I stop by for a visit. I came here midweek to see what they had in stock. They didn't have my size in a particular shoe, so I asked for a stock check at the LA location and turns out they had my size. Now had I known there was a Santa Ana location, I would've preferred this. Now, in reference to the customer service, I've been coming here for years. I never had a bad experience despite what others Yelpers have said. I guess, it depends on the associate who is helping you at the time. I understand some individuals want an overall great experience. But in the end, we're all consumers. Blends is just ok these days. I used to love going here several years ago to check out the latest Jordans and Air Force 1s but the place is not as inviting as it used to be. Much like another reviewer said, I used to go here and talk to the guys in the store and became friends with them. I would even bring pizza to them sometimes. They had all the exclusives and they really knew the industry. However, anytime I go there now the employees are nowhere near as friendly and knowledgeable. Obviously, the most important thing is shoes and Blends still has them but the selection of good exclusives is not nearly what it used to be. Prices are little on the expensive side although you should expect to pay that at a boutique sneaker shop.
