I love Road Runner Sports, I am a huge fan. In fact, I love them so much I have a VIP membership (it is totally worth it!). With the VIP membership, you receive discounts, and cash rewards. I always have some sort of store credit for next purchase lol. This was my first time visiting the Costa Mesa location. This time, I came for a special "meet and greet" with inspirational ultra runner, Andy Glaze. The whole event was so well organized. There was plenty of seatings, water bottles available, and the event ran in a smooth, timely manner. Andrea did a fantastic job of organizing the event, and was so friendly to all the guests. She let us know there was 10% extra discount for shopping the same day. Although I did not buy anything this time, I really enjoyed being at Road Runners. I went to the store today to buy some new running shoes for myself since mine are very old and wanted to see what they had in store after driving by it so many times. When you first enter, it's a very obvious that this is not a sales or service oriented store. There are just bodies in the building. I am sharing a picture of another review that I shared the same exact experience and I wasn't going to leave a review, but I'm after seeing that, I wanted to add onto that one and say exactly how bad of an experience it was and hopefully save someone else the trouble of wasting their time and energy of going to this store. I was curious to see if this was just my experience or if anyone else had experienced this and I discovered all of the negative reviews within the last 6 months to a year. There is someone who is responding to all these reviews saying "oh no! We're so sorry", but if it's already been a year, how many times do people have to complain before something changes? I also forgot to mention how expensive everything is marked up and how many times it was brought up that I wasn't one of their VIPs. That VIP program would be $60 a month for six months upfront per the associate I worked with and I haven't found anything online that supports that so I'm not sure if they just didn't wanna sell a membership today or what's going on, but I would avoid the store at all cost. This was by far the WORST experience we've had at a Road Runner Sports, and unfortunately it's just this one location. We've had nothing but great experiences at other stores. During our visit, we were the first customers to be helped by LUPE and other customers who came after us was repeatedly prioritized while we continued waiting. She would help us then move onto 2 other customers, while we continued to be overlooked. We were pretty much ready to get fitted and checked out but she chose to help others and took more than she can handle all at once. We understand it gets busy but watching others get helped that came after us is super frustrating and unprofessional. As a worker, if you are unable to multitask and prioritize those who came in first, please re-evaluate how you choose to provide customer service. Complete waste of time. Customer service should be about treating everyone fairly. Instead, we felt completely overlooked. It's unfortunate because we had nothing but great experiences at all other Road Runners locations. I've visited several Roadrunner Sports locations, but my experience at the Costa Mesa store was by far the best, thanks to Jackson. He provided a level of service I haven't encountered at other branches. Jackson was incredibly knowledgeable, courteous, and patient, despite having to go back and forth to pull multiple pairs of shoes for me to try. Even though associates don't work on commission--which I've found sometimes leads to lackluster service elsewhere--Jackson's passion for helping customers truly stands out. He didn't hesitate to offer new recommendations when a brand wasn't a fit, even though it meant more work for him. I found my perfect pair of shoes thanks to his expertise and great attitude. I have been going to Fleet Feet for well over 20 years and I've always had a great experience there. Last week I decided to try Roadrunner in Costa Mesa just out of convenience. The store was nearly empty but I had to seek out help as the employees were chatting it up in the back corner. I gave the employee a list of three shoes I'd like to try. He got them and left. Zero help fitting, nothing. When I chose a pair and went to check out he did look at how far my toes were toward the front of my foot, but nothing like the experiences I had had at Fleet Feet. No discussions of the different shoes and fit. Once again, just out of convenience I dropped by today to buy a pair of Offos sandals. I was glad to see a tall man who looked like a manager right up front who pointed me to the sandals but offered no help. When I checked out I asked him about a defect in the new Altra shoes I'd bought a few days earlier. He asked me if I had joined the "Roadrunner club". I asked him what that was and he explained that they don't accept defects back unless you "joined" their club. I explained that the person helping me didn't offer any "club" when I bought them explaining who it was. He said the person was lazy and needed a talking to but I should have seen the "club" signs all over the place. Idk about you but I don't read all the signs in a store (any really). I would never recommend going to a store that doesn't stand behind its products without joining their "club." Go to fleet Feet or even Macys! I am going glue the new shoes and contact Altra because the man at Roadrunner told me that without joining the club "it was my problem" after I wore them. Bad service and a scam club in my opinion. I asked about the difference between two different brands of court shoes and the sales guy just keep talking about how they looked on the outside and couldn't speak on how the different shoes would impact my feet and movement on the court. We were also repeatedly interrupted because he kept being asked to assist another customer. The staff here is useless. I would recommend going to A Snails Pace to anyone looking for knowledgeable staff!! I go in wanting to find more information on a couple different super shoes for my race coming up. I ask a pretty basic question to the sales rep about difference in the responsiveness of two different shoes, and he just reads the label off to me which doesn't answer my question at all. He also didn't know the difference between the vaporfly and alphafly or the adios pro 4 or 5. The only thing these sales reps know is how to push selling their custom insoles. Overall disappointed that a sales rep at a running shoe store doesn't know specifics about running shoes they sell. I will be going to A Snails Pace from now on. read more

We had a really disappointing experience at Road Runner Sports in Costa Mesa. We went on a weekday around 6 PM to buy shoes for both me and my husband and were completely ignored. No one greeted us when we walked in. We waited about 10 minutes before even getting into the queue, then another 10-15 minutes with no help, and ultimately left after 20-30 minutes of standing around with zero assistance. We decided to give it another try on Saturday around 11 AM. While we were greeted this time, we were told there was only one person ahead of us and still waited about 20 minutes. The wait times are unreasonable and the service feels disorganized and inattentive. Overall, really frustrating experiences both times. If you go, be prepared to wait a long time or just go super early. read more

Came into the store today to buy new trainers. I was greeted by a very welcoming young man who seemed very knowledgeable & took the time to get me fitted. However, my unpleasant experience was with my fit expert, Shannon. At first, when she was trying to sell me extra's, she seemed nice. When I declined the extra's as I was only looking into new shoes, her attitude completely shifted. She shoved the receipt into my shoe box & walked away. I also declined their rewards program which thank god I did because I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. Her attitude and lack of professionalism was very uncalled for. I am really upset about their unprofessional sales tactics. I just got a charge on my Visa bill only to find out it is an annual membership. I never wanted this. They claim that I got a free one year membership - but the catch is that after one year you get billed - I looked at my Visa bill from last year and sure enough I got billed for this last year as well. I am very upset about this - I never wanted any type of membership. I really feel like I was taken advantage of. When I asked them why I was not alerted - they said that I never gave them an email. What?? I aksed that they cancel the charge for this year and I gave them my email and asked for a confirmation of the cancellation. So far no email. I do not trust these guys at all. read more

I am DONE with this store. I have been shopping at the Costa Mesa Road Runner Sports for 2-3 years, primarily because of their large selection of shoes (I need wide) and I prefer, if possible, to shop at local stores rather than online. I have very high arches and use custom orthotics prescribed by my pediatrist so I need specific type of shoes. Most of the sales reps seem to have pretty good knowledge of the shoes. However in the past I have experienced the following at this store: ** Reps attempted to sell me their orthotics indicating they would work better than custom orthotics prescribed by a doctor. **Reps suggesting I buy their socks which would improve my issues from high arches. **Order shoes that were not in stock and I received the wrong size **Realizing the VIP program is a sham **Long wait times because of short staffing I recently went to the store to purchase a pair of athletic shoes and Offos recovery slides. They did not have my size in the Offos so they offered to order them and have them shipped. I specifically told the rep I needed size 8 in women's (as they are unisex). I received the Offos, however, they were the mens size. I returned to the store a second time and expressed my frustration. The rep apologized, returned the wrong size and ordered the correct size to have them shipped. He specifically told me he understands they are unisex and he ordered size 8 in womens. Within a few days I received the wrong size AGAIN. I returned to the store for the 3rd time and again expressed my frustration. The rep advised me this has been happening to other people. The rep then showed me their web site to prove the reason I was getting the wrong size was they don't carry my size in womens. The rep then suggested I exchanged them for something they had in stock. Based on this it appears the reps were intentionally ordering the wrong size just to get a sale??? I returned the Offos as well as the athletic shoes I had purchased. I went home and ordered them on Amazon and received the correct sizes the next morning!! Even with the poor customer service as well as some inappropriate sales tactics, I have been shopping there just for the selection of shoes. I don't blame the employees as it is clear these issues are caused by the management/corporate directions. From now I will either shop online, or at Snails Pace/Lucky feet where the employees are knowledgeable and appear to have the customers best interest in mind. read more

This is my second time attempting to get this issue resolved regarding a plan I want canceled that charges me $50 a year that wasn't disclosed to me in the first place, and I've spoken to other people who are experiencing the same thing. One of your employees either current or former is signing people up for this without disclosing it to them. I called 6+ times during OPERATING hours and no one has called me back even with leaving a message. It wasn't until I left a negative review and conveniently I was finally contacted back within hours of that review. The employee told me she would cancel it and refund me so I deleted that review. Then the same day, I was charged again that $50 a year thing which I can't even tell you what it is because I NEVER agreed to it. The employee at the time only asked me for my phone number and email and frankly seemed impatient when I was second guessing buying the shoes. As a side note. On top of this issue regarding these charges, why is no one picking up the phone during operating hours after I called 6+ times within 3 days to get this handled? Please update your training to have the "whole package" if the customer does not know what they want - Plan B - for those that know what they want so they can get on with their day. I would continue to shop there just because of him. I have had mixed experiences with other employees in the past. Some didn't know the difference from a neutral, stability or motion control shoe and will sell you the wrong shoe. Fortunately they are great at replacing the shoe, with their VIP program. This is going to sound dramatic but it's just straight facts. I have had the worst 5 months of my life recently. I know I still have it a lot better than most people in the world, but I'm 5 months into tarsal tunnel & plantar fasciitis. It's been incredibly painful and I've had a few unfortunate things happen when it comes to insoles & treatment. I'm 99% sure my custom orthotics referred by the specialist doctor at Kaiser were someone else's as they made my feet worse when wearing them. I was so turned off by orthotics cuz of the bad experience I had after having orthopedic lab in Santa Ana adjust them dozens of times. Months later here I am and I came into the store pretty desperate, not much has worked for me in my recovery. I was greeted by Jackson (Maybe Jaxon) and I told him my story and btw thanks Jackson for your patience. I really needed help and he delivered. He really listened to me and thought of the best option(s) for me. I got some great fitted insoles and he gave me compression sleeves for my feet/ankles. He gave me the best prices available and made sure I was taken care of and I'll never forget it. I've used them for a couple days and I've already improved a little bit. But a little bit right now is A LOT. Even if I never recover to where I want to be, I just needed some hope & you gave that to me brotha & I'm so appreciative. I don't do many reviews. This was my first experience at a Road Runner. I'm completely blown away by the knowledge and customer service that was provided to me and my lady during our visit. Jake and Josh set a new bar on what we see as awesome customer service! I came in looking for durable running shoes for an upcoming 13 week training program. Not only did they show interest but also showed their experience in similar competitive experiences. From the four chosen shoes I loved 2 of them. After joining the Subscription, I may just come back for another pair! We had such a positive experience that we decided to get my lady a new pair of shoes as well. She was welcomed with the same outstanding attention to detail with fit, feel and purpose of what shoes she wanted.
