We went here for lunch yesterday and were amazed to see the staff with no masks and no request on the door for customers to wear a mask. While the staff wore gloves while handling the food, gloves do not prevent the staff from breathing on the food during plating and prep. The best part was the cup. The food was so soft. No texture. No flavor. This is the spot to take toothless grandparents. They will have no problem gumming this bbq. Manager was nice. We finished up a tournament with our Grandsons and decided to all go to Dickey's in Northwest Tucson for lunch. Love their barbecue, sauces, and sides - plenty of choices! We had the pork (my favorite), turkey, brisket, and chicken - all very good! Plenty of food - my wife and I could have split the 1 meat platter which comes with 2 sides and a roll. For sides - #1 is certainly the Mac & cheese for me followed closely with the baked beans, green beans, and okra. Good selection of drinks also. The staff was very friendly and efficient with our large order - no complaints. Don't forget to stop by the ice cream machine for a little after lunch/dinner dessert - it's included with the meal! Good sides of Jalapeno Beans and Mac and Cheese. A not-so-great side of Fried Okra, however, straight out of a freezer bag and served in a french fry-type sack. That should not be occurring in a BBQ place. The Okra should be cut and battered on the property. I could have bought that stuff at Safeway or Costco. Chicken was of a shape and texture that may betray it as from a shaped or processed loaf or the like. It did not look like a natural piece of bone-pulled chicken. I visited at 12 noon on a Saturday. They opened at 11. They were out of ribs already and the rest of the meat (brisket, chicken, etc.) was already pretty dry and cold. Your smoked meats should not be dry an hour after you open. Maybe by 5 or 6 they will be, but not noon. You're not doing something right, apparently. As for the ribs, you need to plan better when smoking for the weekend traffic. Being out of ribs an hour after you open on a Sat; well, there's really no excuse for that. This place needs to get their fly problem under control. It's very unsanitary and the Pima County Health Department is going to have a field day when they come and visit you. If there are that many flies in the dining area, then what is going on back in the food prep and storage areas, bug-wise? I don't even want to imagine. There are a lot of good exterminators in town. Find one and stick with them. It's very strange when a cashier at a BBQ place does not know the meat menu by sight. She looked at my tray and asked me what kind of meats I have. Seriously? You're a BBQ chain out of Texas. You're responsible for training your employees to memorize the menu, by word and by sight. Basic tenet of the food industry, not just BBQ. No excuses. You need to try way, way harder. What you are serving here would not pass muster in Texas (even though your chain is out of Texas). You need to train your employees better and get your meat smoking moisture control and temperature maintenance technique dialed-in. If I visit the original Dickies, I'll bet it's not going to be like yours. It couldn't. It would never survive in the Texas BBQ business environment. If this store doesn't improve, it will go the way of the now-defunct one on 1st and Wetmore. read more

He said he would talk to his manager Cody when he gets in, luckily he had just came in when we were speaking to the cashier and instead of being helpful. So this review is mostly based on management. The best ribs I've ever had are only when Miga who is a manager is on duty. They are always super most and just perfect. I've been here on other occasions and been served sub par ribs that are old and I wouldn't ever come back if I didn't know that on Miga's watch they are always perfect. She is the perfect manager and I wished I had her to manage my business. She handles her employees very well, not aggressive but assertive. Dickeys BBQ Pit is the worst place I've ever been. One manager openly admitted she needed to go use the restroom so she could do lines of meth to put up with the "annoyance" of customers. She didn't acknowledge me for a good 10 minutes. Didn't even know I was there until I spoke up. Asked me what I heard her saying. I, of course said "nothing" in response and left. I was so fed up. Her name tag said manager but in all my years, I've never been so disgusted with the type of "manager" any place has hired. This place gets no stars. What it should get is shut down. New staff and better owners. Ones that actually care about customers and their satisfaction. Finally made it through Dickey's today. At first I thought it was a local eatery as I had never heard of them before, but then I learned they're a national chain (not a bad thing of course). I went in with almost no expectations, except for a certain Yelp review that lingered in my head (more on that guy later). As I walked in, it seemed a bit more upscale that I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an upscale place with crystal chandeliers and people pouring you wine and champaign, but by no means is it a dump. It was nice and clean and felt "warm" and inviting. Not ever being a patron of this place, I asked what they were known for. Rodney, who was upfront cutting a fresh slap of brisket, told me that they are known for their brisket and ribs, but that everything there was worth having. He advised me to try the brisket and I opted for that and the turkey breast. They had a several sides that sounded very appetizing and literally made my mouth water just reading them off in my head. As I stood there looking at the side choices, Rodney exclaimed that I should also try the mac and cheese and Raquel, the cashier, said I should try the baked potato casserole. I went with the mac and cheese ended up getting the jalapeño baked beans in lieu of the baked potato casserole as I wasn't in the mood for potatoes of any kind. Both the brisket and turkey breast were really good. I don't eat red meat all that often, but I can say without doubt that this is some of the best brisket I've had in an establishment like this. It was tasty and very tender and went great with the spicy BBQ sauce. Now I've had better, but not in a semi-fast food setting. They turkey was absolutely tender and juicy! It was so good on it's own that I felt borderline bad that I was even put BBQ sauce on the few bites that I had with the sauce. The rest I ate as is, it was that good! I only wished my turkey at thanksgiving dinner came out that juicy lol. The mac and cheese was very good and nothing like "box" mac and cheese, as another Yelp reviewer had mentioned. I did wish that they had a more adult version of their mac and cheese though. One with bacon and jalapeño would be an awesome addition to this place. When I asked if this was an option, Raquel said no, but said she can give me a side of jalapeños to put in the mac and cheese. I took her up on her offer and regretted trying it with canned jalapeños still in the juice. I guess it works best with fresh jalapeños that are baked with the mac and cheese. The only real disappointing thing about this meal was the jalapeño beans. It was very bland and I didn't not pick up on any kind of spiciness. Really wish I had opted for the baked potato casserole. All in all, this is a good place to eat and I 100% recommend this place to anyone who enjoys BBQ, although I would hold off eating here for lunch and come for dinner instead, unless you're a fan of spending $15+ for lunch. This did not play a role whatsoever in my knocking down a star. The one star was 100% on the jalapeño beans. I would steer clear of this choice. Also, don't let that one guy who rated this place a 1 star sway your decision, or me for that matter. If you like BBQ, I recommend giving this place at least a try and sharing your own opinion. My experience there was polar opposite of that one star guy. I would say one of two things is true of that guy, if not both, he's an uppity BBQ elitist (is that even a thing?? lol) or he genuinely had a bad experience at two different locations. I'm a bit biased as a native Texan & I really haven't found anything in Tucson that competes on that level. Really dark and not welcoming atmosphere at this location on 5/3/2020. It's extremely hot inside your building, I get saving money but if that's what your going to do then don't have customers come inside. Employee wise, the girl who helped me I'm assuming (Samantha) that is what my receipt says. After acknowledging me , she proceeds to go to the back of the kitchen and take a bite out of whatever from wherever and come back (without changing gloves) and finishes making my sandwich. Next a gentlemen comes out from the back with absolute no care in the world for customer perception. Phone as loud as it could be , him in full blown convo over talking anyone else in the restaurant, then she slowly sets my fold down before bagging it and stops that she is doing to tell the guy that he is very popular. I was waiting on my pick up order that was placed a while before I got there. When placing a pick up order I expect to pick up the order when the time says it will be done. If I wanted to wait I would just go inside and order it Togo. Get your operations straight, with everything going on right now , treating customers and having no customer service is the perfect way to lose business and not make it through COVID-19. Not worth the time it take to go there to eat there. Each Veterans day I do my research to find the place around Tucson that show appreciation for the veterans that made this great country. I see that Dickey's BBQ would come up in all the places that offers free eats on Veterans day. I called the local restaurant on Thornydale rd, but of course they will not answer, I called at least 4 times, then I decided to hit 2 for catering, because I knew they would answer and they did. I was told that they are offering a free pulled pork sandwich with proof of service. I called two more time on my way to the store, and still no answer. I drive all the way across Tucson, because I love pulled pork, and when I walk in, I am told they are not giving away a free sandwich, but they offer 10% off today! I told the guy behind the counter that I was told by Dickey's catering call, I made that they were and he said no they only offer 10% off. I told him shame on Dickey's for not supporting Veterans and only offering the average that Target and all other place offer to us Vets years around, and I left. I am pleading with the great people of this nation to boy-cot Dickey's BBQ now and forever, because of the treatment of Veterans everywhere! Placed my order at 6:30pm to be picked up at 7pm, needless to say my order was ready at 7:34pm. I have two little kids and I'm waiting on sides... that's the excuse I got. I could've made those sides from scratch and it would've been ready by 7pm. I started out pretty excited that there was BBQ place I could get delivered (via uber eats) and ended a sad, disappointed and hungry person. First, they didn't even get my order right. What they did send was a sad excuse for BBQ. The ribs were so over cooked they were tough and black and I actually couldn't eat them due to the inability to chew and digest charcoal. The brisket was so dry it was chewy and as easy to swallow as a spoonful of flour, with about as much flavor. And my salad was a bowl of chopped lettuce. It didn't even have dressing. Their food is very tasty but a little pricey. We did a delivery using one of those services that bring food to your house. The order wasn't completely right. We had ordered a side of fries but because the people picking up were late, they substituted chips. We called the next day when they were open and were told that the fries would have been too soggy. The fries were $2.75, so we were charged that much for a tiny bag of chips. Had we not called, we would have been stuck paying that. However, we were transferred to a manage and she was able to refund the money. My only reservation now is that I think they should have called to ask if we'd rather have a side of potato salad or something more comparable for the money, but they did at least make good on it when we called them and overall, I would recommend them. read more
