Monday's are always a grab and go kinda day for me with Tuesday exams, and so this week I decided to check out Dickeys since my friend had recommended it. They were running a dinner special for $15.99 for 1/2 pound of meat, two sides, and a drink. As I usually do, I got the BBQ smoked brisket, with mac and cheese and creamed spinach (my favorite) on the side. I really liked that they had three sauces (original, spicy, sweet) and you could help yourself to as much as you liked seeing as some would probably describe my BBQ style as "soup". I tried all three but LOVED the spicy. The brisket was tender and falling apart, but still had a great meaty texture. The mac and cheese was good, but reminded me of a velveeta like mystery cheese sauce (If you're looking for an amazing mac, check my review for Ballyhoo). The creamed spinach was amazing, and with asiago added in it was super flavorful. When I go back I will be slightly tempted to get double spinach. I had to admit I was slightly disappointed to see no cornbread, but I actually devoured my buttered roll. It was soft and sweet and really buttery, but with a little bit of a crust. Even though cornbread would have been great, I think the roll hit all the cravings I had. If there was one thing I had to say, the sweet tea had no sugar. It ended up being a great refreshment to go with the BBQ, but I still find it a little hard to believe that someone forgot to add sugar to the sweet tea. TL;DR - Go. Order the creamed spinach, and the brisket. Try all the sauces. Eat the entire roll. read more

Stopped in for lunch. I wanted iced tea, but it was so watered down it may have well as been water. The manager offered to brew a new pot and it was as weak as the last pot. Then he put on gloves and squeezed out the tea bags, dunked them again and squeezes again. Mind you, for the size of the tea urn, he should NOT have been able to hold the tea in his hands to squeeze out plus, tea drinkers know this makes the tea bitter and cloudy. I explained he should read the directions because it was not made right. He just kept insisting the company sent the wrong tea bags. I had a pulled pork sandwich. It was nothing special with premise potato salad. A pickle would have been nice with the sandwich. All 3 of the sauces were the same. One was sweet, but indistinguishable from regular and one had a few hot pepper flakes in it. Again, no flavor difference. No vinegar or mustard base choices. No reason to go back. Definitely very good. I was surprised how good it was. I went in with low expectations and they were honestly blown away. The manager was very sweet and helpful with questions. I give 3 stars because of price and portions size. I spent $30 and it seemed like the portions were much smaller than a normal BBQ joint. I had a brisket taco with jalapeños and a pulled pork slider with slaw. Both were very tasty but I had room for more and I am a very light eater. I could probably eat 2 of each and be comfortably full. My boyfriend got the 3 meat special with pulled pork, brisket and jalapeño sausage. They were out of ribs which was disappointing but we did walk in an hour before closing so it was expected. The mashed potatoes were Ahmazing!! Stopped in for takeout. Ordering went well, pleasant service. However when I reached my car I noticed that the coleslaw dressing was leaking all over my order. While I appreciate that they tried to fill the container, I didn't appreciate the mess. Chicken was good, jalapeno sausage was delicious, coleslaw good but needed seasoning, baked beans were uneventful, they need to rethink that recipe...seemed like they opened a can of generic baked beans. Oh, I placed a tip in the tip jar, I know the cashier saw me do it....a thank you would have been nice. It's been a while since I dined here; won't be rushing back anytime soon. Average food at best. The staff here were very friendly, helpful and patient. The restaurant is set up cafeteria style and have many options. They suggested we consider one of the family style meals for our group of 4 adults and two children (a 3 year old and 1 year old). It was $50 and included 2 meats, 3 sides and six rolls. It would not have been enough food for 6 adults. Tge sides were enough for each to sample. We had beef brisket, and smoked chicken, both very good but the chicken was excellent. The macaroni and cheese was very creamy and well received by all. The baked beans were wet like pork and beans more than baked style and had a slight bite. The rolls were delicious. Drinks and desserts were not included in the price but were available, serve yourself. Tomato barbecue sauce was also available near the drinks with a spicy option and regular. Paper towels, plastic silverware and paper plates for eating. More attention was needed for cleaning, the garbage holder did not have a can inside and customers just dumped garbage. Nothing was changed when we informed the staff. We will go back and plan on getting a meal to go as a picnic. read more

Saw the sign for this new franchise and thought I would stop in. I have had BBQ in the hot spot got to go there BBQ destinations in St. Louis and in the South. The equivalent of our Duff's or Anchor Bar. I have frequented all the local spots, from the River to downtown and in the Towns. I came in here expecting none of what you get in those places, but nevertheless something good, tasty, fast and worthy. I think this place delivers that. It's not like the huge joints - or even the local spots - you go to for destination BBQ. But it does not pretend to be one of those. This is fast food BBQ. Probably has about 60 seats. Clean. You walk up to the front and give your order and pay. The menu is in the wall. They bring it to your table. My brisket and pulled pork were warm and juicy. The meats are displayed behind the register. All looked fresh. The folks around me loved their food. The drinks are self serve with one of the new machines that let you pick from dozens of options. Sauces also: self serve. I like that since so often the ribs or sandwich you get is overly sauced. This way you put as much or little as you want, including on the tray, for swiping. Friendly staff. Come in with the right expectations and you will leave full and happy. read more

I have tried a bunch of BBQ around the Buffalo area, and while we don't have 5 star yet, this is very good option considering it's competing with fast food. We always get this through Skip the Dishes. I think some reviews aren't taking into account Texas-style BBQ may not be their preferred flavor profile or cooking style, compared to the Carolinas or Kansas City. I prefer Carolina, juicy and dripping with sauce, but knowing this isn't that style, I adjust my expectations. We love the slow cooked ribs and the brisket (I slather mine with the extra BBQ sauce provided on the side). The cole slaw has a great vinegar kick, which is my favorite side when it's done with way. The green beans were a bit too "boiled blah" for my taste. The Caesar salad is always fresh and full of reliable flavor with its cheese and dressing. I'm not a fan of the rolls that come with, but I know these are a staple recipe used down South with BBQ, it's just not my taste. We always get two meals out of the food we order, and for decent BBQ that comes to our door, the price is reasonable for us. read more

If Boston Market were a barbecue restaurant, it would be Dickey's. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't say it was great either. The meats were okay. It's a shame the plates come with a dry roll instead of a biscuit or corn bread, not even any butter to go with it. The jalapeño beans are reminiscent of MRE, and the mac n cheese is on par with a banquet meal. Even Stouffer's frozen sides are better. However, it was all perfectly inoffensive and edible. Tried a second time. Ordered brisket tacos just to try and when I opened them to put sauce on it looked like bulled pork. Long strings of meat that I swear was pulled pork. How do you not serve brisket either cut on the bias or chopped? These folks are chain restaurant people...not BBQ people I asked the guy behind the counter and he stared and said yes it's brisket not cut on the bias. Pulled brisket? Crazy. First time Owner was rude to customer in front of me and then rude to me. I called him on it and left. He chased me and my family down to give me a cards for a free sandwich if I buy a side. I used one card, had the racetrack sandwich that was ok and beans that could have came from a can (Boring). My wife had the Beef and Mac, it was mac & cheese with brisket thrown on top. She did not care for it. I just got back from there for our 3rd and final time. I ordered 1lb of brisket @ $17 and a large mash potato $5.98, I also ordered a sandwich with the last free sandwich card. Casher told me it was no good for the sandwich I ordered. Only good on a classic. It does not limit the type of sandwich on the card. I asked for the owner and he refused to honor the card. I left and left the food there. Difference in sandwich price $1. They lost a $23 order. I will go back, spend $2.50, get a free $6 sandwich and never return. There are to many Good BBQ places in Buffalo and they are not one of them read more

Horrible experience. Food is bad, bland and fatty. Staff are standoffish and don't seem to want to be there at all, like they're annoyed that anyone would come through. Besides being mostly fat, my chicken was undercooked and inedible. Used their website to complain, and got no reply but an ad sent to my email. Not much self awareness it seems. My boyfriend and I visited right before the dinner rush and were pleasantly surprised. Tuesday night is college night so don't forget your school ID. For $7.50 each we both got a sandwich, side, and drink. The fancy pork with the spicy bbq was almost perfect. It just needed a little more coleslaw. For my side I ordered the mashed potato casserole and it was definitely comfort food worthy. My boyfriend ordered the brisket and it was dry and not as satisfying as the pork but he ordered spinach and cheese as his side which we took home to dip chips into and it was mouthgasmic. The plus is its a very clean place in the front of the house which usually indicates the back of the house is clean. The bad is its a very processed cookie cutter BBQ joint. The meat products I tried were all cooked properly and seasoned well. The sides however are absolutely out of a bag, can or box, nothing tastes on site made. Dump it in a heated source bring to temp and slap it in a branded cute container. The atmosphere is very nice but seems to be well thought out by corporate to appeal to the BBQ patrons. The prices are competitive, staff was very polite and proficient, the manager was on top of every order that went out to make sure everything was perfect which I can appreciate as a patron. I bought the brisket, ribs, chicken tacos and chicken sliders they could put some type of spicy slaw or Pico salsa on it just to jazz it up. I will most likely return since Dinosaur I'm not a fan of, it's expensive and way too smokey. Dickeys is more balanced in smoke and seasoning which I prefer. Will try their sausage and pulled pork on my next visit. I hear they have whole smoked turkeys so that will be on my list as well. All in all give it a try it's worth it the sides not so much although their slaw was pretty good, signing off and enjoy. read more

Well, my friend Joe and I thought we would give Dickey's a try and both of us were very impressed !! We both had the Lunch Special of the 1/2 lb. Pulled Pork....DELICIOUS !!! If you go in hungry, you won't leave that way. The Cole Slaw and Potato Salad, equally delicious. The owner of the Franchise came to our table to see how everything was and we told him that we both have our own Smokers. He brought over a Sample of their Smoked Sausage....wow, it is outstanding. I'm an ex Restaurant owner, I will definitely return. They have 3 different BBQ sauces, Sweet, Original and Hot, but BEWARE, THE HOT is HOT !!!! Ordered a beef brisket sandwich. Meat was lukewarm and kind of dry and it was served an a very average store bought hamburger bun right out of the plastic bag. My two sides were mashed potatoes and baked beans. They were both a little better than the sandwich. At least they were warm and honestly the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. I also thought that $14.50 for an average sized sandwich with no toppings, the sides and a drink was expensive for what you get. If the meal was $9-$10, I might give it 3 stars but when you charge sit down restaurant prices, I want sit down restaurant quality. The store is nice inside and the staff was friendly. read more

This BBQ was by far the least impressive Barbecue in the Buffalo area. The portions are very small portions for barbecue, we tried 4 different meats and 3 were so dry that even the bbq sauce didn't help, and the ribs were tough. The sides were all bland. Dickeys BBQ what can I say,, when Chain was small went there a lot through the south ... watch them grow and stores along interstate open and close ... was really happy when they opened in Amherst , 1st time there good meaty ribs not like famous daves but good enough .. but I noticed no free ice cream which my kids love at the other dickys we've been to 2nd time there not so good my kids didn't want to go no free ice cream , so I did take out order ribs with baked beans green beens and creamed spinach .. so in preping the order they tell me no baked beans 20 min to make so Then they tell me no creamed spinach also 20 min to make ...jeez .. so I waited in my car . Went back in and they wrapped ribs in foil , they told me they were out of styrofoam take out containers ...jeez So I get home open up ribs cold dry up not meat left on they shrunk down to like dried up jerky/bacon ... jeez This was a very very bad experience all the way around sadly I will go back to famous daves for my take out rib fix ... hopefully they get their act together and don't close their doors ..... read more

Never been to a barbecue place with no sweet potato option or corn bread. Settled for mashed potato and guess what NO BUTTER! Who eats thick mash potatoes without butter or cream cheese! I saw that they had pride on being responsible with the animals which was a plus, however they have no love for a sustainable environment. They do not have any paper cups - forcing customers who want a drink to buy a gigantic big gulp size plastic cup. That was a real turn off and for that alone I would never patronize this chain again. For those who don't care about things like the environment or having butter with your mashed potatoes I would say that the pork was good, the store was clean and there was an unhappy customer which the manager did act upon showing good service. I Think they need to rethink a few things in order to be a successful chain. read more

Just had dinner here for the first time. A quick service BBQ restaurant on my way home from work, man this could be the beginning of a great relationship! Ordered 1/2 # of pulled pork and the brisket, asked for sliced. Went for the pork slider for good measure and finished off with the classic sides of mac &a cheese and coleslaw. Also grabbed the salad. Service was prompt and friendly but they did charge me the wrong amount but a quick adjustment and good to go. No complaints here, good staff. Sat down and began to eat... first the slider. Way short on meat and honestly could take or leave it, B- at best. Then on to the sides coleslaw, you've had this before at any fast food joint, disappointing F. Mac & cheese, I guess better than the blue box plastic cheese but not by much, D-. Salad, it has everything you would expect but nothing to make it worth it, B. Yeast rolls, included for free so I guess I'm going to be generous and call them better than average, B+. Now the main attractions the meats. Pulled Pork, wow this was weak, 0% smoke flavor had me questioning if this was even BBQ, F. Brisket, what should have come sliced arrived in two large chunks surrounded by completely wrecked Brisket mash. What he hell is that was my first thought. Sadly, it tasted like it looked. Oven baked, over cooked, no smoke, no flavor... am I sure I'm at a BBQ place? Man was this disappointing, F.
