The Most (only) authentic Mexican food in Windsor. This is literally just a regular burrito. Very reasonably priced. It's the size of my forearm and pretty heavy. They didn't charge for salsa which everyone loves to do now days. Anyways enough seating. They have a bar, Fast service, friendly staff, nice ambiance and delicious foodssss! Always our go to spot!

Pozole

I've been ordering take out from this restaurant for a while now! I always order the same thing; the pozole. Every time I order it, it's DELICIOUS. There's so much flavor and the portion is pretty size able. The toppings they include are always fresh! As well as the chips and salsa they include. So so good. Highly recommend. It's one of the only restaurants that I've been able to find that has pozole for take out and so far they have never disappointed!

This was the worst breakfast burrito I've ever had. bacon was completely soggy, no eggs and terrible potatoes

This was the worst breakfast burrito I've ever had. I specifically asked the guy if the bacon would be crispy--he assured me it would be, but when I finally got my order 20 minutes later, the bacon was completely soggy and barely cooked. There were hardly any eggs, the potatoes were undercooked, and there was just a huge block of cheese slapped in there. Total waste of money--avoid this place at all costs!

Stumbled on this tiny little neighborhood Mexican restaurant in Windsor, kind of on the outskirts. A fantastic find! Small hole in the wall surprise! I had 2 fish tacos and to shrimp tacos, they both had a delicious graded Mexican cheese on top, big chunks of avocado, ripe tomatoes and lettuce' very fresh tasting. Big plump juicy yummy shrimp, and served with tortilla chips refried beans and tamatio sauce' I love finding these places!

Hand made tortillas with Al pastor. Better then expected

Kind of a hole in the wall. Down the street from our hotel. It was very quaint inside, spacious with plenty of seating. We were the first for lunch. I had tacos and he had enchiladas. Mine were overflowing with meat. Delicious. I would order them again. The enchiladas was good, but very different then expected. The chicken was on the outside. A nice butterflied piece of grilled chicken. Inside the enchiladas was not the stringy melted cheese you'd expected. It was Cotija. A white crumbly Mexican cheese. A different style then we expected. Next time we are in the area I look forward to returning. You should try this place too next time you are in the area.

Their tacos are absolutely the best that I've found in Sonoma County. Try all of them as they just keep getting better.

I had the shrimp taco--flavorful, though a bit on the mushy side. My husband had the chile relleno, which was good, but the sauce was very spicy (a heads-up for those sensitive to heat). The service was excellent, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. Overall, a great experience and one we'd definitely recommend if you're in the area.

I was hoping they had mole but they didn't, which might have been too carby anyway. I was pleased to see that the menudo didn't have corn in it making it something I can have. The menudo was excellent, they don't skimp on the tripe and it tasted great, especially with the chili oil at end of the buffet. The Birria was also very good and I had to try the nopales con huevos which was okay. I wish I could have the tortillas that are made in site, my wife loved them enough to wrap a few up to take home. However had I not been writing a Yelp review I would have just had more menudo instead. It's just that good. I suppose one thing to know is about the long communal tables. In case that's a problem for anyone.

So after settling in line and realizing we were in for the long haul-my breakfast burrito craving instincts started kicking in,so I jumped on my phone and opened Yelp and saw this interesting looking spot wasn't too far away. With my spot secure in line by my buddy,I jumped in my car and headed to Taqueria California in Windsor. The shop is located in a multi tenant shopping center so parking is zero issue. Walking in I was greeted by the amazing smell of breakfast meats cooking with those beautiful Mexican spices,I knew I was in the right spot. The very friendly staff took my order of 2 breakfast burritos-I got a Bacon version and a Chorizo version-they cost $13.00 each Both came with a green and red sauce on the side and also a complimentary small bag of chips. I ended up trying a little bit of the bacon burrito, since it was my friends,it was pretty good and one can never go wrong with a bacon breakfast burrito-but honestly my chorizo burrito was amazing. It was perfectly seasoned-not overly greasy-and then paired with the two salsa-each bite was better than the next. The potatoes went so well with the eggs and chorizo and cheese-I enjoyed it very much. This was the perfect meal to start off what ended up being a big day of beer drinking at the brewery. In closing-if you ever find yourself in the Windsor area and are craving a breakfast burrito-I give this shop 2 major thumbs up and guarantee you will enjoy your meal from Taqueria California.

As far as Breakfast Burritos go, This was top notch. Service could not have been better or nicer. Chips and salsa both excellent; the folks in our group who'd been here before ordered the guacamole even before we sat down. I love how guacamole is slightly different in each restaurant -- this guac is super fresh and really delicious! One friend wasn't super hungry and so got the chicken tortilla soup -- just know their portions are LARGE. So soup truly is a meal in itself! Two of us got salads -- a friend got the taco salad, and I got the chicken tortilla salad. Honestly, I'd probably get the taco salad next time, but not in the tortilla -- the chicken in my salad was deep fried (I know, I'm in a Mexican place, what did I expect?) and so it kind of overpowered everything. Others got burritos, tacos -- and everyone gave approving "Moos" of enjoyment as they ate. Great drink menu, ice-cold beer. Definitely someplace I'd return to!

We chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful day, a few flies, but nothing too aggressive. Our waitress was bubbly, engaging and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered a variety of items for lunch. To begin our experience, we tried a mole sampler with chips and salsa. The Molly tasted rich and authentic. Then.. we tried the shredded chicken nachos...a classic delicious favorite. The Carne Asada tostada was super delicious, had just a little too much lettuce. And the Las poblanas was a wonderfully amazing mix of grilled chicken, carne Asada, prawns... and mushrooms... with both corn and flour tortillas. Soooo good. To top off our experience, we ordered their delicious caramel cream filled churros, topped with strawberry glaze, a spicy cucumber margarita and classic spicy lime margarita on the rocks! They were mixed so well and balanced perfectly. I love a delicious margarita! I would recommend this place 10 times over!!! The service was good overall, but the biggest disappointment was the food. Three of us ordered the Coastal Fish Bowl, a dish our friend had always enjoyed during his previous visits. While the combination of vegetables, black beans, and cheese had pleasant flavors, the fish was the main issue. The menu describes the dish as featuring sea bass, but the fish served was actually swai (also known as basa), a much less expensive farm-raised freshwater fish. I am very familiar with swai and could immediately recognize that it was not the fish described on the menu. Additionally, the menu stated that the fish was grilled, but it was actually lightly battered and deep-fried. The description also mentioned that the dish came with tortillas, but none were provided. Overall, the menu description was significantly misleading and did not accurately represent what was served. While our experience was not ruined by the service, it was only adequate and did not make up for the disappointment with the food. A restaurant's menu should accurately reflect the ingredients and preparation methods so guests can have the experience they are expecting.
