We chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful day, a few flies, but nothing too aggressive. Our waitress was bubbly, engaging and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered a variety of items for lunch. To begin our experience, we tried a mole sampler with chips and salsa. The Molly tasted rich and authentic. Then.. we tried the shredded chicken nachos...a classic delicious favorite. The Carne Asada tostada was super delicious, had just a little too much lettuce. And the Las poblanas was a wonderfully amazing mix of grilled chicken, carne Asada, prawns... and mushrooms... with both corn and flour tortillas. Soooo good. To top off our experience, we ordered their delicious caramel cream filled churros, topped with strawberry glaze, a spicy cucumber margarita and classic spicy lime margarita on the rocks! They were mixed so well and balanced perfectly. I love a delicious margarita! I would recommend this place 10 times over!!! This was our first time dining here, and my wife and I came with a friend who has enjoyed this restaurant several times in the past. The service was good overall, but the biggest disappointment was the food. Three of us ordered the Coastal Fish Bowl, a dish our friend had always enjoyed during his previous visits. While the combination of vegetables, black beans, and cheese had pleasant flavors, the fish was the main issue. The menu describes the dish as featuring sea bass, but the fish served was actually swai (also known as basa), a much less expensive farm-raised freshwater fish. I am very familiar with swai and could immediately recognize that it was not the fish described on the menu. Additionally, the menu stated that the fish was grilled, but it was actually lightly battered and deep-fried. The description also mentioned that the dish came with tortillas, but none were provided. Overall, the menu description was significantly misleading and did not accurately represent what was served. While our experience was not ruined by the service, it was only adequate and did not make up for the disappointment with the food. A restaurant's menu should accurately reflect the ingredients and preparation methods so guests can have the experience they are expecting. read more

We had a fantastic dinner at Agave tonight. We sat at the bar and enjoyed visiting with Amanda who was welcoming and made delicious mescal margaritas for my husband. The food was fresh and excellent, especially the chicken tostada. This seems like a true locals spot as it was pleasantly full on a Sunday evening and did a brisk to-go business as well! We actually were kind of blown away by how awesome she was. She was so friendly and accommodating with our silly little questions and special requests. It was as if no modification was a problem even though we fully expected to be told no. I wanted a tamarindo margarita but I was worried about the sugar. She said it was no problem to make it less sweet and it turned out delicious. We sat out on the patio, which was surprisingly lovely given the strip mall location. There was plenty of shade, fun, tasteful decorations and beautiful plants. It wasn't long before our food arrived and needless to say, we were very impressed. In the past, Agave has been consistent and prepared only with fresh ingredients. The other evening I decided to treat myself to a Door Dash delivery of a taco salad. First, the dasher didn't read the specific instructions for finding my house. He ended up leaving my order by the garage door.... I love taco salad, and that's what I ordered, al pastor. The shell was stale, the ingredients were sparse, couldn't find the beans that are usually at the bottom. No guac or sour cream. This is SO far from the usual presentation. read more

My friends and I came here because I woke a dinner and tequila pairing as an auction item. Diego, the manager, made this dinner very special and our waitress was swet,attentive, and very helpful. It's a nice venue with plenty of seating both inside and out. We started with the chips and salsa, then guacamole. The red was definitely spicier than the green and the guacamole was very fresh. The chips were thicker than I prefer though good. 2nd course was the house salad, again very fresh with lots of flavor and not over dressed. They brought out a plate of seasoned crickets and spiced peanuts to pair with the tequila. Don't knock it until you try it. The crickets have a salty/citrus taste and the with peanuts are seriously addicting. Next was an oyster on the half shell which was sweet and flavorful. The main was a traditional chicken mole that was the Grandmother's recipe served with rice and beans. I was impressed with the flavors and beautifully cooked chicken. The tortillas were perfect and although I cannot remember what I had, I do remember 1) it didn't make me sick, 2) I did like it (it had mole), 3) it was reasonablly priced, and 4) the server was one of the nicest servers I've ever encountered in my life. First, the service was outstanding, and everyone represented the restaurant well. I ordered a chilli relleno, and my wife split a chicken chimichanga with other members of our party. The order came out quickly, and the presentation was great. The chimichanga was very good, but my chili relleno was okay. The pepper was too firm, and it lacked any real flavor. The beans and rice were lukewarm but had good flavor. The prices were reasonable, and the overall experience was good. I would eat there again, but I would not make a special trip to go there again. You have to like molle sauce, and I do, otherwise you will not like the chili relleno. They let you know when you order, and it has a good flavor. The people who work there are five-star! read more

Right to the point Service was great. Now, the salsa tasted like spiced tomato sauce. There wasn't an onion or pepper to be found. It was awful. We ordered a side of guacamole. Same as the salsa, overly blended avocados, that's it. My wife ordered a steak fajita salad. She liked it but it had far too many uncooked bell peppers. I love a good Mole. Haven't had one in years and years. But this Mole Negro looked good. A chicken leg quarter covered in Mole. The sauce was delicious but there wasn't any meat on the chicken. It was all bone. I am not exaggerating but I got maybe 5 bites of chicken off the whole thing. The bones that were left were no smaller than when it came to me in the first place. The last time we visited Healdsburg we went to El Milagro, and if you see my review of that, that was fantastic. Go there instead. read more

The food, the service, the ambiance... everything was wonderful. I have struggled to find a dine in Mexican restaurant that I enjoyed this much. I appreciated that they kept it spicy ! I wish I took a photo of my drink. I believe it was the Don Juan. It was superb. Our waiter spoke so highly of their special at the time, chicken empanadas, even going out of her way to show us photos of it on her phone. They did not disappoint! Went for lunch with a friend and we sat out on the patio. We knew what we wanted and ordered inside and then grabbed a table. We ordered steak quesadilla and chicken taquitos to share and a Diet Pepsi each. The steak was underwhelming bland and the chicken was overly minced chicken that gave cat food consistency and was also super bland. We both finished our drink while we were eating and never received or asked if we wanted a refill. Wouldn't return. read more

Great atmosphere, warm service, with fresh ingredients in the food and drinks is a winning combo every time, and I can't wait to go back again when we're nearby. Fresh chips are served with two mild salsas. I tried the prickly pear mezcal cocktail and the enmoladas mole entree -- their version of an enchilada. I ordered camarones a la diabla. "It's spicy, is that okay?" the waitress said. I told her, "Yes." The food soon arrived steaming hot, so I continued to make my way through the chips and salsa while my entree cooled. The chips were crunchy and lightly salted, and I liked the contrasts between the smoky red salsa and the zesty green salsa. Finally, I was eager to dig into my lunch. I packed some shrimp, vegetables, rice, and beans onto a flour tortilla and took a bite. True to its name, the camarones a la diabla packed heat! Fires tore through my mouth and danced on my tongue. The shrimp was juicy, and the bell peppers soft. The chili pepper added smoky overtones and flourishes. I was glad for the soothing rice and beans to balance out the heat. Calling themselves "The Best Oaxacan Cuisine in Sonoma County", they certainly set themselves apart from the many other typical Mexican restaurants and taco trucks. Located in a strip mall near Safeway with a view of the parking lot about 3 blocks west of the Plaza, they have a cute outdoor patio with umbrellas and plants and indoors features a new redwood bar. We choose to sit outside since it was cooler than inside on a summer night (only fans inside). Service was fast and friendly. The complimentary homemade chips with red and green salsa were a nice touch. We got the house margarita which had a rim of flavored spices and packed a kick. I ordered the Enmoladas, the closest to a chicken enchilada. It came with two tortillas filled with braised chicken topped with Mole de Oaxaca (sweet mole sauce), queso fresco, black beans, rice ($19). It was really great, tender and mouth watering, similar to other Oaxacan I've had in SoCal. Husband had the Camarones a la Diabla, which were large prawns in housemade diabla sauce, onions, bell peppers, rice, black beans, and tortillas ($21). He said they were pretty good but wasn't wowed by them. We were hurrying to a show at Coyote Sonoma across the street so didn't have time to hang out, but the restaurant was packed and many people were lingering and having a great time. The chef is well known in the area for his creative dishes and it showed. We will be back! read more

Everything here was amazing! Two years in a row we have ventured to Healdsburg for an Autumn excursion. My brother and his wife from Orange County and me, from Dallas. This restaurant is in a Safeway shopping center and is unassuming. We stopped in last year after a long drive from OC and decided to take a chance. Well it turned out to be our favorite restaurant in the valley! The people working here must be well taken care of by the owners, as they're all so friendly and nice. This year we had Stephanie for our server and bartender as well. She is an absolute treasure! You would think that she owned the place, the way she raved about the food and cocktails. We took her suggestions on ordering and loved each and every thing we ordered! She even gave us a lot of information about Mezcal, as none of us were familiar with it. They have several margaritas with Mezcal rather than tequila. We tried one and it was very very good! We loved Stephanie SO much that we told her we would come back another night before we left, just to see her and get our "fix" of Agave's food before leaving for home. Their Mole sauce is amazing and they sell it in jars in the restaurant. I regret not getting a few, and next time I will definitely bring some home. Nothing negative to say whatsoever about Agave. On the way to Fort Bragg, we stopped here for lunch! So very good! It was my first time having cactus and it was so good. The molcajete did not come out sizzling but it was hot! So don't let your eyes fool you. Four huge prawns, steak and chicken slices and peppers. The sea bass ceviche was fresh and seasoned with lime. Very good! The service was excellent.
