I used to love this place but it's been years since I've order here. I placed and order over the phone for 1super burrito with asada and 1 regular burrito with al pastor. :( unfortunately I didn't know until I got home that my burritowas made with ground beef. My Husband got a regular burrito and said it was okay. This place used to be one of my favorite spots and now it's ehhhh. Maybe I'll try one more time to see if it was just a bad day. read more

I love this store. When in first moved to Windsor I was a little bummed that I wouldn't be close to Lola's market which offers products from Mexico , great food , and meats you can't find at regular grocery stores. But I have found my new go to Latino market. This place has everything Lola's has ! Possibly more. They also have a restaurant within the store. I got their burrito de carnitas. It was okay. I would have loved a little more flavor but it's ok. I was disappointed but I wasn't wowed either. However, their torta de milaneza is a whole other story. That sandwich was delicious! The bread ( I think it was telera) was so light and was bigger than my hand. It had the milaneza, avocado, cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, mayo and onion. I literally danced after I took the first bite. It was so good! I ate the sandwich super slow and enjoyed every bite. I was a little sad when I was down to the last bite. It was that good! The staff here is very helpful and super friendly (something that I never seemed to encounter at Lola's). The store is well organized and clean. They're playing music in Spanish in the background. Not gonna lie, even though I didn't understand the lyrics of the music, the best was slapping. I was doing a little dance as I waited for my food to be ready. I'll definitely be back ! read more

We were on 0ur way to Mendocino and had to take a pee break. Luckily en0ugh, this was the first place we saw with a bathroom. They cook the meat right out front! This place is a restaurant as well as a market. You can tell they put a lot of love into the food. Everything was so good. I usually don't like green Sauce, but theirs was the shiiiiiiiiit! I ordered a super burrito with carnitas. The park was nice and crisp but moist. Every order comes with a side of chips. Loooooove that! My be ordered a quesadilla with language and chorizo. Sooooo gooood! But I don't like how it made the tortilla soggy. The red sauce has habaneros in it, and I had an allergic reaction. Not their fault but it sucked. My son and my favorite place to get tacos... always fresh tasting... which should be obvious, but there are places out there that do not taste fresh. We were at the Pick-n-pull getting parts when the feeling for a good breakfast burrito came over me. A buddy that lives locally had told me that Mexican food in Windsor is, pretty good. While my broil was hunched over a diesel engine pulling out it's manifold, I was online searching for a bangin' burrito in the area. This market was the first to pull up and what a convenience, it's located just a half block from the parking lot of where we were. Inside it's as the name tells you, it's a fresh market with vegetables, fruits, drinks, snacks and more. In the time I stood waiting on burritos I ordered, many of the other customers that came in were also there for food. They have a kitchen which is opposite of the cashiers and make entrees fresh when ordered. Behind the bagging area they offer a few booths available for those choosing to dine in. For a little less than eight dollars I got a chorizo and egg breakfast burrito that was the size of an 8" submarine sandwich. I also got a bbq pork soft taco and with the purchase they gave me about a handful of tortilla chips with two kinds of salsa. For less than eight dollars, that is a lot of food. The burrito alone was too much. It contained beans, rice, plenty of chorizo and eggs. The burrito left me comatose and sleepy the rest of the evening. I've got the soft taco in the fridge and will dine on that later. Estrella's is a small, ethnic market. I mention this because I assume most not from a culture of grabbing Mexican food on the go would drive right past and not think about it twice. Me, being from Chicago and often trying the worst of Mex food from local taquerias; am usually pretty skeptic about trying new non-restaurant, divey looking places. Estrella's is not a dive. One of my two, go-to takeout taquerias is Estrella's. I never feel ripped off, and I'm a happy camper after I eat the good food. Never had a bad taco or burrito from these folks. Price is low $ but the quality is high. Kitchen is open and the cook ladies are careful to craft a good and tasty burro. The market and meat counter is clean, well stocked and the staff is friendly and attentive. You can't go wrong here. If you go to a pricey $$$ place and you get a burrito with very little meat, or some uncaring cook drops a big chunk of gristle or fat in the middle, you're getting the shaft. We've been customers of Estrellas for over a decade. When it first opened it immediately became the best Mexican food in Windsor. Because it's just down the street from our house we became close friends with the original owners and staff. For many years we would shop this market daily. We *loved* this market. I'm not sure why the original owners sold. But the new ownership has driven this market into the ground. The staff looks miserable and the food is equally as miserable. Because it's convenient we give this taqueria multiple second chances and it continually fails on all marks. Until now I've never left a review but after what happened years I have to. The owner is cheap to put it kindly. From day to day the ingredients of any given menu item can change on her whim. And after waiting 30 minutes for my order I watched her throw our order into the microwave for 5 minutes and then proceed to explain that super items do not include cream or guacamole. She slathered salsa all over my childrens items and when I told her I specifically ordered them without and requested a refund I got a lecture on how to "not abuse her staff." By the looks on her employees faces it wasn't me who is doing the abusing- it's her. It's safe to say that I'll sacrifice convince from now on and take my business elsewhere. I hope that the new owners decide to sell to someone who truly appreciates lifelong customers and the tradition of the food. If they don't sell I hope to god they clean their establishment because it's dirty. It's really sad what has happened to our gorgeous local Mexican market. read more

Solid 4 stars. A clean little market with great variety. They BBQ chicken and have fresh meats. Their pescado ceviche was good, did not enjoy the camaroń ceviche (too fishy) for me. Our burritos were good. Carnitas was delicious, nice and crispy how I like it. Their guacamole left something to be desired, tasted like old avos. Best Mexican food in Windsor! I often go to El Farolito, but when I discovered Estrellas, there is no need to eat anywhere else. I always order the super burrito with chorizo. They have reasonable prices and a short wait. Aside from the great food, they are a fully functioning market so there are plenty of drinks and snacks to choose from. What looks like a hole in the wall is actually a treasure trove of Mexican food amazingness (which I know is not a word). They have "O face" inducing carnitas, fantastic al pastor and the tacos and burritos in general are solid. The fact is I simply love anything pig related and they know how to do it right. Unfortunately I haven't tried anything else besides the tacos, burritos and nachos because those are so damn good it's hard to will myself into trying something different. I probably stop here at least once a week when I'm feeling to lazy to make carnitas or al pastor. Everyone in there is friendly and they have taco truck prices. My only knock on the place is that depending on what day of the week you go, your carnitas will either be soft or crispy (which is how I like them). They're tasty either way but that crispy texture is what carnitas is all about. And if you're not in the know, they moved from their old "market" style setup north on Old Redwood to a restaurant across from Angela's on Old Red. Check it out, you won't regret. read more

Estrella's is a nice market, and the food was really good, but I can't bring myself to give anywhere near the 5 stars many people gave them. "A-OK" fits my description much better. Even "Yay, I'm a fan" would be a stretch. There is no waiter - the guy at the cash desk took our order. The tables are right there behind the cash desk, looking out of the dirty windows at the roadway. The food, while really good, comes on paper plates with plastic silverware. Sorry to be the first one here to mark them down with only three stars, mainly for the lack of ambiance. Perhaps if we had ordered to go, I would have been more generous. read more

I tried the grilled chicken leg/thighs for the first time today. They were delicious. The flavor, from what I assume was some kind of dry rub, took me back to the 80s when you used to be able to get really flavorful rotisserie chicken in the supermarket. Although the leg/thighs were a little smaller than the chicken-on-steroids we are used to seeing in conventional markets, they were darn good. I also noted that the pieces looked like they had been cooked under some kind of weight. I think this allowed the chicken to be cooked quickly, with a crispy exterior without drying it out. read more

I shop at this market every single day. The staff is always welcoming and helpful. Lucy makes some of the best food I have every had. No one makes a better burritos, Crunchy or Soft Tacos than Lucy. The Arroz con Asada Is one of my number one favorite dishes they offer on the "Secret menu". The produce is always top notch and fresh. I body build and the Taco Steak is a staple in my daily diet. The bacon- El Pastor- Sweets. All of it is GREAT! And Thursday through Saturday you can try to fight the intoxicating aroma coming off some of the best BBQ Chicken around.. I came here for lunch. It didn't seem like there were very many people here. I placed my order at the regular register. I ended up having to wait longer than I expect it to to get my order to go. When I got home the tacos were okay. A little bit greasy and a little bit over spiced for my taste.
