I recently moved to Bristol, and Dewolf Tavern was my first foray into downtown. The cobblestone path leading to door near the water was quaint. Inside, it had this old school Tavern feel. Our waiter that night was Jeb, and he was fantastic! We started with the Prime Rib Gnocchi, and I ordered the flank steak medium rare - both were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly! They had a decent selection of craft beers and a satisfactory wine list. We ended the night with a port wine. All in all - friendly, professional staff, very good food, and cozy ambiance. read more

Dinner menu had a couple new items. 2 of us tried the bistro steak, one medium and one well-done. Both were served pretty raw. Sent them back. One looked better the second time around. One was still so undercooked. One in the party ordered quail that was finally served after all other plates were cleared. One in our party ordered a side dish that was never served. I don't know how this place has been in business all these years. My wife and I have been living in the Bristol/Warren area for 12+ years. We finally decided to give it a try. Well, I wish we didn't. The bartender, who for some stupid reason was also the sever for the patio area took about 10min just to greet us. We ordered the Buffalo Oysters and the Stuffed Sweet Potato. My wife literally had to spit the oyster out! They were just awful. The sweet potato was stuffed with bbq chicken. Which turned out to be some old cooked and frozen chicken reheated loaded with bbq sauce in an attempt to mask the flavor. (Mind you it took almost 40min to get this microwaved plate). We pushed the plates to the edge of the bar signaling the bartender to come over. He was apologetic for the food quality and was kind enough to take the food off our bill without even asking. Stay away. I called and made reservation on Valentine day. Hostess was rude not the young girl but the older lady. I was told my 7pm was going to be later after, my wife went up to the hostess for the third time. She was told we had a assigned table after we saw other people come sitting down. Visited DeWolf Tavern last night with my wife. Underwhelmed to say the least. Staff was courteous. Music a bit too loud. Bar service slow, but professional when they get around to it. I started with shrimp cocktail and ordered the steak with chimichurri sauce for the main course. Nothing special about the shrimp. Steak was just OK but the portion was laughably small considering the price. My wife ordered naan bread as an app (meh), but she did enjoy her lamb chops afterward. Would have been a very different story if the pricing was more in line with quality and portion size. Bottom line - I won't be back unless someone else is paying. read more

Food was decent. Service was unbelievable. We went there as a family on a Saturday evening, 6:30pm reservation. We got our entrees at 8:45pm!!! The chef appeared to be out chit-chatting in the dining room most of the night, while guests sat with no food and no water. We had a cocktail, finished an entire bottle of wine and still waited ages for our food. Staff was all very apologetic, but the restaurant is having massive management issues. The only negative was my husband's dish was supposed to have scallops,along with lobster, crab, and shrimp. They ran out of scallops, and substituted salmon and didn't tell us. The night was perfect for dinner at DeWolfe Tavern, a late summer evening with a slight chill in the air. We started with drinks on the patio, enjoying both our drinks (nice service and recommendations from the bartender) and the view. We then moved upstairs for dinner. (The first floor is more casual and the upper floor a little more special with views of Mt. Hope Bay.) We ordered a number of dishes to share: - Waiter was friendly but unable to help with wine pairing - All dishes came out together instead of nicely paced as we had hoped - Lobster popover was rich, special, just outstanding - Mussels were huge, unmemorable except for large size - Pork with tamarind glaze, cheddar grits and cauliflower Manchurian was the star of the meal - Also loved the side of Brussels Sprouts corn bread hash - Homemade cardamom ice cream topped the evening off perfectly. Our new neighbors were right. In the last two weeks we have been there twice. Love this place! The food is awesome and the location is simply beautiful. Menu changes with seasonality, but there are a few items that remain consistently on the menu and consistently good. Chef Shai, puts an Indian spin on his creations. The Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is served on Naan bread and is delicious an more than one person can eat. Some of our favorites are the Brussel Sprout Hash (Yum, Yum!), the Chorizo Crusted Cod and my personal favorite the Tavern Riblets with Mashed Potatoes. The owners are usually there eating unless they are out of town....they are very lovely people! I can't say enough! read more

Made a last minute reservation on a Saturday. They weren't too busy so we were seated fairly quickly. My gf and I are a younger couple, and we were dressed kind of island formal, but we definitely felt we were treated 2nd rate by the hostess. Our attire was not shabby compared to anyone else there. I'm kind of used to it in at some places, but that doesn't excuse that type of service. We ended up sitting at the outside bar to view the sunset, which I highly recommend. The bartender was awesome. He was holding down the whole back area by himself (about 10 tables plus the bar) and never made us feel rushed or like we were waiting too long for anything. He wasn't overly chatty either, just the right amount of conversation. Wish I could remember the guy's name. Started out with some oysters, which were standard and what you expect to pay at most places. I ordered the scallop special and my gf orders the prime rib. Both were priced average and were average quality wise. Surprisingly good craft beer selection and solid cocktail menu also. We'll probably come back again, just because our bartender was so great. One star is being kind. We met my father here for a holiday celebration. He suggested the place because he loves it. The waitress came to the table three times before my husband asked. "Can we place a drink order" They were obviously surprised that they were busy for lunch. Granted, it was a Monday but it is the day after Christmas. Everything from the lack luster hostess, to the only waitress, chef who was obviously not in the mood to cook and the manager who finally stepped in to help when we complained. They forgot to put my sons Entree in. Then brought it out in bits. When we voiced our disappointment the waitress loudly announced that we had spent 250 and couldn't comp the Cod dish. So the charged us $17 for a plate of homemade spaghetti. Which was the base of the dish. They brought the cod out, finally on a small plate. My son took one bite and had to spit it out. This is honestly the first time in my life that I felt a tip was not earned. My husband and I have worked extensively in the food industry. We always tip 25% or more. Don't waste your time!!!!! Made dinner reservations a month prior for my anniversary. Zach was our waiter and was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere was nice...a slightly dark but, nice. I ordered the filet mignon which was a tough piece of meat (I don't think I have heard anyone say about a filet) and lacked any flavor, as did the fingerling potatoes. We went there tonight and both my fiancé and I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon. What we actually got was maybe about 4 oz. We put in our concerns and was told that we could receive an appetizer or another filet mignon. Yes one to split. When we mentioned this, which was also followed by "I love steak so I'll eat it" oh he "manager" proceeded to say "well our chef hand cuts the meat". The reply was "maybe the chef needs to learn how to cut meat properly" the "manager" mutters under her breath the entire length of the bar, pulls the door open in a huff and literally stomps her feet back into the restaurant. The service staff is non existent The food is terrible mushy cauliflower over seasoned, the petite lamb rack one time I was served 4 and over cooked Then last night I received three and again overcooked. We asked for a basket of bread not available anymore ,now u have to buy bread and it came at the end of our meal,along with the cauliflower. Sadly We all said we wouldn't bother to go back. Excellent. We enjoyed the Monday night $1 oyster special- 2 varieties. Naan app. Habiscus margarita was delicious with the Himalayan sea salt. We tried the light clam chowder and Brussel sprout cornbread made great tapas. Our server/bartender was very attentive and made great suggestions. We went for Christmas dinner. The upstairs is attractive, and we were one of the first tables seated. The wait for every course was pronounced; the food was adequate at best. The presentation exceeded the flavor. The clam chowder needed seasoning; the cod was somewhat bland; the pearl rice below average; the filet mignon ... meh. The beef wellington received praise from two of the diners. The shrimp for the shrimp cocktail was abysmal -- old and mushy. The dinner rolls seemed store-bought and average. The naan was decent. Overall, the cost of the meal isn't justified by the food or the service. The atmosphere, however, is appealing -- dark wood in an old-room setting. read more

It was just an off night. Some of the issues had nothing to do with the restaurant and I will give them that, however the whole evening was just off. We went with the intentions of having a delicious dinner down by the water. Dewolf/Bristol is only a stone throw away from downtown so we decided to hit this place up. My friend was visiting from Boston and we wanted to show her and her mom a good time. We were sat outside and unfortunately, I had to fight the sun the entire time because not all the tables have a patio umbrella and we just happened to be one of those tables. No problem, I like the sun and we asked to sit outside. This is where it just started to go wrong. In the parking lot next to us... Ok, let me just remind you of the blazing sun, in the middle of the summer, and parked in an open lot with full sun beating down.... So back to the story. In the lot right next to us, some Dbag left two german shepard dogs in their SUV with the windows cracked. It was hot. I was mortified. The dogs were looking directly at me as I sat, they continued to bark constantly and my anxiety went thru the roof. I couldn't enjoy anything on the table nor could I focus on my friends. I called the police, spoke to the owner..... UGH. We ordered oysters and shrimp cocktail to start and all went off of the recommendation of our server and got the Cheese steak since it was mid-day and it just sounded delicious. What we got was bland and not very good at all. Not sure how that is possible because anything covered in cheese is normally tasty. All in all, we spent a ton of money, had an awful experience overall (I know they can't help who or what parks next to them) but honestly, no one on the patio that evening could enjoy the day because we were all too concerned for the well-being of the dogs that were barking for well over an hour.... and then the sad steak and cheeses.... Beautiful atmosphere. We went there for dinner twice. Service was very good, people were very friendly. Music playing at the background during dinner wasn't a good fit for dinner. It was a very hard core jazz. We like jazz music but I wish it was a softer version. We had clam chowder soup, shrimp fettuccine and naan pizza. Naan pizzas were amazingly delicious, I think they were the most delicious option on the menu as a main course. I want to go back just to eat the naan pizza. We also had creme brûlée and mango sorbet. Creme brûlée was good but not memorable, but the mango sorbet was really good. read more

My husband and I walked in around 3:30pm and waited at the hostess station for about 10 min before anyone came over to us. The place was not busy at all, there was a few people eating at tables outside and another few inside and a couple of people at the bar. When the hostess approached us she informed us that the restaurant was fully booked for the entire night and they had no seats for us. We asked if we could sit at the bar, as there were at least 2 seats that we could see open (separated from the others with plexiglass) She informed us that those seats were reserved too.. We were confused because the place was so empty but we left and found another place. Later I called DeWolfe Tavern to ask about making a reservation at the bar and was told the bar was first come first serve seating and no reservations were accepted for the bar. So they lied to us earlier in the day and that is bad customer service in my opinion. The hostess must have been holding those seats at the bar for her friends. Bristol resident, visited numerous times. Always a disappointment for one reason or another. Today, way too salty. The seafood stew was just a mess, two of us ordered it and it is barely edible with the amount of salt. Same with the Brussels hash- just too salty and greasy to enjoy. Last time, the vegetarian beans were just a can of white beans emptied onto a plate. It's too bad b/c the location can't be beat. Waiting for this place to either change owners or get serious about food. Local here who cannot recommend this to anyone visiting. read more

This restaurant looked so appealing from the water. Sat outside with a pleasant waiter Richard he was awesome ! .. placed our app an dinner order all at once waited a half hour to even get bread. Asked about apps there was a "large party" ahead of us... waited longer and longer in a close to empty restaurant .. still no food.. no bread .. the manager Kim comes out to ask how everything was .. when told about the hour+ wait for food she responded that "they had a full restaurant with a 15 top, a 9 top, a 6 top". Yea a few people in a restaurant was what she had. We won't be back in the end the food was horrible along with the service. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I traveled over an hour back to my home town to have dinner w friends on the night of my anniversary only to get DISRESPECTED by the waiter. I asked for bottled water and was told there isn't any in such a rude manner and that he himself did the ordering and that I should get the fu*k out of the restaurant if I didn't like it. I understand it's a busy night but to talk to your guests like that is beyond inappropriate. I've been in the service industry for 20 years, having started in the same town and have never seen anything like that. Thankfully the manager made it somewhat right by comping the bill- for food that we hadn't even eaten yet, but the server still continued to work. He should've been taken off the floor and put in the walk in to cool his temper. I didn't go there to get a comp'd bill, and would've been his best table and tip of the night had he held his disgusting tongue. I will be back to talk to the owners, because that is beyond unacceptable. read more

Ordered a turkey dinner at Dewolf Tavern for pickup because my oven is broken. $140 they forgot the quart of mashed potatoes at $16, quart gravy for $18 well they only gave a 16 ounces, quart of Brussel sprouts $20 half full, quart of chestnut stuffing $14 half full, prime rib 16 ounces weighed on my scale at 14 ounces, but the best is $48 plus tax for 3/16 ounces of turkey my scale sayes 10 ounces not enough to feed thee people. I would like to be empathetic to the restaurant industry, but I was trying to make the best of my broken oven situation, and patronize the restaurant industry, but I donot like to get cheated. If you advertise a portion for what is than why would I expect less. Everyone is hurt by COVID and restaurants want to make what they lost back. Fact is - stop trying to take advantage of the people that patronize your business.Thanksgiving is a wonderful family day. To the manager who offered me a gift card or a way to make it right, make it right by seeing that the owner/chef/manager is making sure even during a busy holiday that the portions are weighed correctly, priced appropriately, and the items ordered are packaged and given to the purchaser. Not complicated. A manager needs to always please the client especially when you the client has made an 45 minute drive. I cross DeWolf Tavern off my list to patronize in the future. Went in for breakfast. We hear wonderful things about their breakfast's. I have to say I wasn't completely impressed. The coffee is from a French press which is ok, but there where too many grinds in the bottom of the cup. The pancakes where very good. Nice and fluffy and light. The Bacon was too under cooked, and usually I am not too picky about that. The waiter noticed I didn't eat my side and asked what was wrong. I explained it was under cooked and he just shrugged it off. Not the end of the world. I would like to try Dinner one night to see the comparison. I would recommend but will say be cautious if you are a picky eater. read more

The good, bad and unacceptable during our recent lunch visit... The good - A very cute, historic building on the water. Very cozy surroundings in the heart of Bristol, RI. One person in our party got the lobster popover and another person got a salad and both enjoyed it. The bad - I did not get the soup I ordered so I cannot comment on that (the waitress said she thought I wanted the appetizer with the entree). The beef tenderloin steak sandwich on homemade Naan with horseradish sauce and homemade chips sounded great, but the "beef tenderloin" was chewy and some bites were inedible. There was no horseradish sauce on my sandwich and a lot more naan than steak. The Unacceptable - From when we ordered until we received the food it took one hour and ten minutes - and each of the 5 entrees came several minutes from one another. We are not ones to complain, but asked four times the status and every time we were told "just a few more minutes". I worked in the restaurant business for years and realize there are off nights (or days in this case) but no one came by to check on us, refill drinks or even bring my soup! By the third time we ask, we were told they were having computer problems. While I get technology glitches, a computer problem should not completely shut down a kitchen, especially at a time they were not terribly busy. We kept thinking that "just a few more minutes" would happen. We asked to speak with the manager who was the chef, but he was too busy with the computer to bother to come to our table. To be fully transparent, they ended up comping our entire meal, but had we not said asked to speak with the chef, I don't know if that would have happened. There are lots of choices of restaurants in this cute area of Rhode Island - I would suggest trying your luck at one of those! read more

We were in Newport a week ago and all the restaurants were super busy. We decided to drive to Bristol and find a place for a late lunch. Were we thrilled to find Dewolf Tavern. It was a sunny day so we decided to eat outside. There were four of us and we were so surprised with the amazing meals we had. The chef does and incredible job. Two of us venturous eaters and the other two not so much. We all enjoyed our meals. Just wish we lived closer as it would be on my list of favorite places to dine. Compliments to the Chef. read more

Walked in around 6;30pm last night and was told no availability for 2 people. I find that hard to believe since half the restaurant was empty. There were also a bunch of bar seats available but the host didn't offer them so we left. Went to River Rhodes a short walk away and had awesome food and perfect craft drinks. The waitress was excellent there too. Thanks Dewolf for turning us down, it worked out for the better. FYI..I will never attempt to step into your poorly operated place again. Most of the reviews for Dewolf are poor anyway. read more
