Devon Movers showed up on time with a four man crew and were totally professional. The move was from a condo in Buffalo Grove to the 3rd floor of condo in Chicago with no elevator. I could not be happier with the service I received from Devon moving company. I was a little nervous as I worked with 2 other moving companies in the past and neither of them showed up. Devon sent me a confirmation of the appointment and called the night before to confirm as well. I had a 9am appointment and I had two movers show up at 8:37a! They were EARLY- how awesome. The two movers I had were Phil and Astro- these two are clearly a power team. Each of them had a role and they worked together as a well oiled machine. I was very happy with how they interacted with me, how they treated my belongings and the speediness of everything. It did take almost 5 hours for the full move but the apartment I was moving into was a nightmare- I appreciated them sticking with it without a complaint. Phil and Astro are by far the BEST movers I have ever worked with and I would highly recommend them to anyone (as I just did to another girlfriend today) Phil/Astro look out for an Amy M. :) I also thought the pricing was reasonable as well. read more

Do not use this company for long distance moving. Frank came to the house and looked at exactly what we wanted to move, but Frank grossly misjudged the number of trucks needed. He thought we would need one or possibly two trucks when we ended up needing three trucks. We were assured our items would be put into the moving truck and left there until delivered. Instead, they moved items like the piano from one truck to another. Numerous items were broken, scratched, damaged and had packing tape directly on wood and fabric finishes. This resulted in removal of finishes and damages to the fabric. The arrival date of our items kept getting delayed. This company was very difficult to deal with once hired. Our front porch was damaged because they didn't have a ramp to move the heavy furniture into our house. They arrived at our new residence without adequate dollies, moving help, box cutters, etc. Very ill-prepared. Although we were assured this company was insured and bonded, when we asked for a punch list to record damages, we were told by Frank that they don't use one and that their insurance doesn't pay anything. Be careful when using this company. read more

I hired Devon Moving twice this past week. They were absolutely awesome! Not only did they move quickly and inexpensively, they had great attitudes even though I was asking them to move stuff up three flights of stairs and then into a loft space with a spiral staircase. AND, they also moved my treadmill up three flights of stairs too. It definitely wasn't an easy job, but they were great. I'm very surprised that they don't average five stars on yelp. I highly recommend them if you need anything moved. Very nice guys will come out with a "can do" attitude and move whatever you need. read more

Good movers. They were flexible when I rescheduled my move with them. On time, and were fast. Not over priced either. They did try to wrap a lot of my items for an additional charge but once I said its ok not to do that they didn't worry about it and kept going. Will use again in a year! This was my first experience with an actual moving company. In the past, I had used people that my friends knew. Overall, it was a positive experience. Frank, the owner, had himself and three other guys knock the job out in less than 5 hours. They arrived to our apartment 15 minutes early, which was very much appreciated. The move was no easy task - we moved from a third floor apartment with no elevator. Plus, we packed our boxes heavily, which Devon didn't charge us extra for. There was also an hour drive to the 'burbs. The price was very competitive, and in this case, we got service better than what we paid for. They moved my stuff fairly quickly and efficiently and were pretty reasonably priced. Although they did scratch the finish on a few of my wood items and chipped a piece from the side of my wooden headboard, I think they did a decent job for the price that I paid them. The lesson I learned is to wrap and unwrap your valuable items yourself. But if you need something moved that you packaged yourself (or if you just don't care if it gets scratched), then I think they'll do a good job for you. read more

Devon moving exceeded all of my expectations. I found them on Craigslist, verified them on Yelp and could not have been more pleased with my experience. I called on a Thursday for a mover that Saturday. They fit me in their schedule, arrived on time, handled all of my items with care, were fast, and inexpensive. My friend and her boyfriend came over to help me unpack in my new apartment and saw the receipt on the counter. They were shocked that all of my stuff was moved safely at that price. I used Devon Movers to move my things from a storage bin to my new house. They showed up on time, however they showed up to the house 20 minutes late after the storage bin pick-up. They moved efficiently, however the hardwood floors saw several scratches from the move. Overall I thought they did pretty good until I started unpacking everything and realized there were several things missing. Everything went from Point A to Point B from a storage bin. Everything was removed so my only presumption is they stole my missing items because there is no other explanation. I can only assume they stopped along the way to unload some things they had of interest like tools etc. I called the place and they said they didn't have them items. I would pay the extra to get a more legitimate mover. read more

We moved a week ago from one single family home to another and hired Devon Moving to take care of it. I had gotten quotes from 5 companies and chose Devon because Frank, the owner, seemed like a very straight shooter. He gave us a realistic idea of how much time the move would take and what it would cost and conveyed an overall sense of confidence that they would do a good job and handle our things with care. He came to do a walk-through the day before our move and see how things looked. I told him that I was nervous about being out of the house in time for an 11:00 AM closing and that our buyer was persnickety and would be hot on our heels. It was the afternoon, around 4:00 PM and he asked if we could get started that night. We thought it was a great idea so he made some calls and came back with a crew at around 7:30 that night. By 10:30, they had moved every box in our house and had a large truck completely filled. The next day, they came and took care of the furniture and everything that was left. The entire crew was professional, courteous, hard-working, conscientious, and did a great job. When the job was done, Frank's price came in very close to the number he quoted us and there were no hidden charges or extras. Their pricing is very fair. It was about the same as some others we quoted and was less than some others. I really feel like they went above and beyond in order to take care of us and we were really impressed that they were willing to come get started the night before. They did such a great job at such a fair price that we raved to our realtor about them. Hope you get some referrals from that Frank, you deserve it. read more

My wife and I recently moved I was unable to take off work to help. We hired Devon Moving and had the team of Joe, Brandon, and a third guy (sorry can't read the spelling of his name). They were quick and efficient. They scoured through the house finding anything and everything to pack for our new place. My wife hid some items that she planned to leave behind and they found those and packed it for the new place. It was a great experience and they guys are very professional and friendly. We called another company who didn't have our date open, but said these guys would do it for the same rate. We had a relatively small move, but one very old glass curio cabinet was included. They couldn't have done a better job! Asked us how we wanted it wrapped, where to put it at the new location, carefully unpacked everything. And they were fast! Great work all the way around. Absolutely the worst moving experience ever. I would not recommend Devon Movers to anyone. Where do I begin? 3 weeks prior to my move I sent in an online request for a quote in which I outlined everything and confirmed start time, Size of Bedroom, # of boxes (small, medium large) to elevator access etc...I called 2 days prior to my move to confirm everything discussed and nothing went right from there. The day of the move movers showed up with the wrong start time and showed up during a time I did not have access to the elevators. The movers explained that no one updated them to the confirmed start time and that they would come back. Ok...fine. Next, the movers arrived at the apartment and takes one look at my place and immediately lets me know that they only brought a Truck large enough for a 1 bedroom apartment and would not be able to fit all of my things. Even though I explained (IN DETAIL) all of my furniture, # of boxes and bedroom size etc... Spent the next 10-15 minutes awaiting feedback from their office on what steps can be taken as there was no way all of my things would fit into a 1 bedroom truck. I was told by the office staff that another truck would be sent within 20 minutes to help load anything left over, but to get started packing what they could fit at that time. The actual movers were awesome!!! And did a great job loading all of my things in a timely manner. However, 30 minutes goes by (NO Additional Truck) an hour goes by (No Additional Truck) at this stage the tiny 1 bedroom truck is filling up and they've packed as much as they could. I received another call letting me know that the additional truck that was to be sent has a FREAKING FLAT TIRE and is 20 minutes from my place. To avoid paying for additional time they instructed to have the other truck complete the move at my new Location. SO HALF OF MY FURNITURE IS STILL UNPACKED AND LEFT IN MY OLD APARTMENT and we are already 2 Hours INTO THE MOVE OF A 2 Bedroom APARTMENT. I go with the movers to my new place leaving my MOTHER IN LAW, WIFE AND 1 year old Daughter to wait around for the Truck Driver at my old place. Movers arrive to the new location which is already 45 minutes away and start unloading my stuff. Again the movers were awesome and unloaded everything in about an hour and 15 minutes. However...I called my wife to find out that NO ONE FROM THE MOVING COMPANY HAS EVEN ARRIVED AT MY OLD PLACE. APPARENTLY IT TAKES 2 Hours to fix a flat tire or to deliver a new truck. A driver arrives literally after 2 1/2 hours later and comes with ONLY 1 PERSON!!! EVEN THOUGH MYSELF AND THE MOVERS NOTIFIED THEM THAT LARGER FURNITURE WAS LEFT SUCH AS COUCH, LARGE DINING ROOM TABLE, etc...!!!!!!!!!!! So Now the guy that shows up says he can't move everything by himself...and no way am I going to ask my Mother-in law, wife who is watching a 1 year old to help moving this large crap. So Now the movers who originally brought my things have to drive another 45 minutes BACK to my old location and help the guy load up the rest of my apartment and THEN DRIVE BACK ANOTHER 45 MINUTES TO MY NEW LOCATION AND THEN UNLOAD EVERYTHING INTO MY NEW PLACE. ALL IN ALL the last stitch of furniture was brought in at 6:00PM. The move officially started at 9:50AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS NOT THE WORST PART....The manager/boss came to speak to me directly and wanted to CHARGE ME for the time it took for him to get his truck out to that location. ARE YOU F*** kidding me? He was full of excuses, did not acknowledge anything that they did wrong and tried to make it seem as though he did us a favor when EVERYTHING THEY DID MET THE MINIMUM EXPECTATION OF THE MOVE. The movers were not the problem...the actual company is a disorganized SCAM and I would not trust my personal items being hauled by such a company that cannot organize things and notify their movers appropriately. Moving is stressful enough and to have someone talk as though they are doing you a favor when they've completely blundered the entire move that you are PAYING FOR is absolutely ridiculous. They ended up charging me for the time to do the original move, but I HAD TO FIGHT TO GET THAT AS THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME FOR TIME THEY TOOK TO GET OUT THERE!!!! I've moved 6 times in the past 8 years, and I don't remember a move going as well as my most recent move with Devon movers. Erika was friendly and extremely responsive when setting up my move. The pricing was super reasonable. Then on moving day I just could not have been more impressed with Henry (I think it was Henry...apologies if I'm mis-remembering) Scizor and Hugo. These guys HAULED ASS. Granted I was moving from a storage unit, but my entire move was under 2 hours and I moved into a 3rd floor walk up on a 90 degree day (obviously there was minimal travel time). Anyway this entire experience was super positive--not exactly a common sentiment when moving. I highly recommend Devon, and you should also specifically ask for Henry, Scizor, and Hugo. A+ read more

DO NOT USE THESE "MOVERS"!!!!!!!!!!! Supposed to show at noon -FINALLY showed at 4:30-5; no calls to me, or response to my calls. Started to call other companies, then they FINALLY showed up. To be fair, the (2) workers were quick & efficient, no dogging it, but they F ----D me at the end, AND shit turned up damaged-a HIGH END Pioneer cassette deck (CTW-630R- check it out online, Pioneers 2nd to top of the line deck at the time I brought it, APP. $250 15-20 years ago, and totally functional before THEY got ahold old of it)(+ a 13" tv). They said they pay for "physical" damage, but not "functional" damage; what the F good is a piece of electronics that looks good if it doesn't F----G WORK??????!!!!!! And get this; they charged me 1 Hour for travel time from their company to my place and back, AND $10 for using my debit card; WTF????? $ 10 TO USE A CREDIT/DEBIT CARD??!!! Does YOUR boss pay you to drive to and from work?? Mine neither !!!!! NEITHER CHARGE WAS TOLD TO ME BEFOREHAND, and I was so happy to finally have the shit over with, so when they said 3 hours, I figured it was over, so I (stupidly) didn't look at the final bill I signed. $74,($64 travel time & $10 for debit card) on top of the(64X3-$192),so that's on me, but WHO gets paid to drive to work and back??!! After reading the positive reviews on yelp, I decided to give these guys a shot. I called them up, got a very reasonable quote and booked them. I ended up having to change my booking from a Saturday to a Friday a little later on because of my condo's rules about only moving mon-fri 8am-7pm. Alex told me that they would be at my place at 2pm so I reserved the elevator for 2-6. Alex also told me that he would call the day before to confirm. The call never came. I called him the day of the move and he verified that he will be there at 2 pm. At 1:56 I get a call from him saying that he will be about an hour late because he just finished a job in Vernon hills and it will take him about an hour to get to the city. Fine, I understand that these things are hard to plan, and I still have plenty of time so I say, "great see you in an hour". Two hours later I am still waiting. I try calling the number that he called from, but no one answers and the message states that "the subscriber cannot receive voice mail at this time". I call a different number and get through to the office. When I ask about the move they guy tells me that he just talked to my movers and they just finished a job up at Vernon hills and are on their way. "WHAT????" I tell him that I have to be out of my place by 6 pm and when I spoke to Alex 2 HOURS ago he told me that he is on his way. The dispatcher told me that he would call Alex and call me right back. HE NEVER DID! I try calling back and no one picks up on any of the numbers that I have and I cant leave a voice mail anywhere. WTF??? At 5 pm I get a call from a different moving company. They said that Alex called them and asked them to move me because he got into an "accident" - not sure if I believe that after my afternoon conversation.... So basically Devon Moving Company outsourced me! The only reason they get a star at all is that they guys that came worked really well and got me out of a really big jam, and all of the guys were called in at the very last minute. I do not recommend using Devon Movers, especially if you are on any kind of a schedule. read more

Devon Moving Company is into bait and switch; liars and thieves. I informed them of my special needs to remove my belongings and I was told they could do what I needed done without any problems. I also informed them of the date and time I wanted to move. I did not receive a call the day before to confirm my move so I called them. I was giving a different date and time that was impossible for me to have made since I had previous obligations. When the movers arrived I was informed they could not handle my special needs. When I called the owner to discuss the situation he did not answer the phone and I know he was available because one of the movers told me he just spoke with him. When it was time to give me my total I was charged travel time; which I was not previously informed of. I gave detail directions to my new address but the movers decided to make a stop along the way increasing my moving time. After unpacking my items I noticed the movers stole a few items SMH. I was dreading this move. Not only had the last one five years ago gone really badly, but I had developed a heart problem since and can hardly bear stress. Nevertheless, having finally purchased a condo, it had to be done. Thanks to Yelp, I chose Devon and not only did the move go well, it was pleasant! My team was Brandon, Astro, young guys, and Joe, the senior guy, all in fine physical shape and willing attitude. They emptied our two bedroom apartment in Lincoln Square in less than an hour and a half (including my substantial library), without drama, without haste, quietly, and without hitting or nicking one single wall or piece of furniture. Not one! It was amazing. They made it seem effortless, but I know that kind of sustained attention requires discipline. The men were kind and respectful of each other, including a little teasing now and then, making a comfortable atmosphere for us all. The whole thing, counting shoe-horning our things into a smaller place (they cheerfully moved several heavy pieces two and three times until we found the best fit), took under four hours, and I had gotten to know these great guys. Astro, for example, is hoping to go to school someday to study--astrophysics! He's very bright and I hope he can. Brandon is too cool a professional to be so young, and Joe is like your best and favorite uncle. I recently had devon movers do my move from a two story apartment to a four story apartment. The actual movers were hard working, Someone who claimed he was the owner made the whole experience very distastful. The move was scheduled from one to three. After they arrived at 330 the complaints started about how this move should never have been schedulued for this time it should have been a 9am move. The movers did not finish until almost 930pm and with two small children, this is not ideal. I called the next day because one of our boxes of dinner plates was completely broken. I spoke to the owner who was extremly hostile and said it was not his problem it was ours because we packed the box. I would normally agree, but these boxes were the last off the truck, and at that point the movers were very tired and were far from careful. I then recived an email saying we were lucky that they did not charge us for the three extra guys they called in halfway through the move, as well they did not charge us for over $100 in moving supllies? I have never had a moving company charge me for moving blankets and shrink wrap? As well we agreed to four men only and if they wanted to bring in extra guys so that they can finish the move earlier and not consulte us, that was not at all our problem and we certainly would not have paid for it. I am completely disappointed with this company and their buisness practices leave alot to be dseired. Do not hestitate, go with another moving comapny. read more
