We loved our experience at Desparada! We made an appointment same day, although I would encourage to plan ahead just in case you have a preferred time. When we arrived we received a welcomed greeting by Christian. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk to. The location has a lovely front room and a back cellar area where you can see where the magic happens. The wine not only was tasteful, but had a lot of history and personalized stories attached to them. We appreciated how amazing the staff was and how they made our day extra special.

An intimate and special tasting experience in the heart of Tin City. We had been encouraged to try out Desparada by a few other wineries but told to definitely make a reservation as they operate by reservation only. We entered into a beautiful tasting lounge with moody decor and a nice chandelier. In the corner, there was a fish, snake and turtle! So cute. There is also a tasting area in the barrel room as well as an outdoor patio area. We were warmly welcomed by Josh. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He made the experience really enjoyable. At a later wine tasting, we told them we had come from Desparada and had a great experience and they asked if it was with Josh! His personality and kindness carries through the industry! The wines are also really interesting. We learned about their wine making process which includes being held in these giant terracotta vases. We'd never seen anything like this before. They clearly craft their wines with care and creativity. We walked away with a yummy red. Great experience!

Cool winery in Tin City area of Paso, with a lovely outdoor upstairs patio. We partook in their current tasting menu. Flights cost $20 per guest, waived w wine purchase. The flight included: 2 Sauvignon Blancs, 1 Chardonnay, 2 red blends with Cabernet Sauvignon leading one; Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc leading the second. Elaina was our server; she was delightful and knowledgeable. The entry isn't on the street front but down the walkway. We had reservations and got to check out their front lobby area and WC. The winery is owned by a woman, hence DesperadA. Cool decor and theme.

This is a must stop if you are in Tin city. This woman owned winery makes some unbelievable combinations That are just to die for. Combining traditional winemaking with new and innovative techniques The flavor profiles that they design are truly amazing. Both the indoor and outdoor tasting areas are beautiful, and well appointed. The staff is delightful to speak to and deal with, and truly love what they do!

We were late to our tasting reservation, but they still fit us in at Desperada, and we are so grateful for that, as it ended up being our favorite tasting on our trip to Paso Robles. The whole vibe of the place was well thought out, from the wine glasses, succulents and decor, to the bottle labels designed to capture each vintage. Our wine tasting server was super knowledgeable and friendly, this winemaker really feels like it's a close knit family (they sometimes doodle together to decide on a label, so cool!). We became club members, and enjoyed everything we tried there. Surprisingly, they are most known for the sav. blancs, but those were our least favorite. Fiancé's fav was Sackcloth and Ashes, mine was Soothsayer. We usually don't buy many white wines, but ended up leaving with a Chardonnay and a Rose as well, because they were so unique and enjoyable. And I really loved the Nebbiolo (but I might be biased as that's my favorite grape). Red blends- these were our favorites (sackcloth and ashes, soothsayer). So complex, kept us coming back. Chardonnay- perfect balance of buttery, oak was subtle and not in your face. Rose- 50% Nebbiolo, 50% Sangiovese. "Wine cocktail", hits the spot on a warm day. Such a dif rose, we love it. Nebbiolo- It's more of a Nebbiolo lovers Nebbiolo... 2012 vintage! Unfiltered, grippy, lingers, have to savor it. In your face, we enjoyed it, but not for a newbie to the grape.

Went to their new location which was really convenient since we were going to other wineries near there. It's still a big location. Plenty of seating and they still offer food which we were happy about. Our server was super sweet and knowledgeable which I always appreciate when it comes to wine. We started a tasting and then just tried whatever she gave us which we weren't complaining. Haha. All the wine she was giving us was really good. I was really impressed by their food. I wanted more of everything. We got their bruschetta al Fresco, hummus, monte Bianca pizza, and one other pizza. I fell in love with their bruschetta. We got there right as there kitchen closed which was a bummer because I wanted more. Overall, I still enjoy their wine. Their location is really nice. Food is delicious. I booked it online and then reserved online in their website. No phone call was needed. We reserved noon on Saturday and after all of our party arrived we went upstairs to our lovely comfy leather sofas to settle in for the duration. We were given 4 pizzas of our choice and 4 salads and served buffet style so everyone could load their plate. We also added 3 orders of yummy meatballs. I cut them in half for serving. Artichoke hearts appetizer, charcuterie board and more. They provided juice boxes for the little boys in our party. The food was more than enough for Lunch. We could have fed more people and we took home a lot of pizza. The Italian sausage pizza was very good but we had the hot honey on the side as none of the group was interested in it. The wine was good, as usual. I had only whites. The rest of the group had the standard white then red tasting. The sparkling rose is also very good and upstairs you have dedicated bottle server. Service was excellent. They had live music downstairs and a market event going with vendors selling goods for the holiday season. I love this venue and will return soon. Improvement needed. Buy some large paper plates for the buffet lunch. It's a shared food event. All we had was tiny appetizer plates. We asked for larger but they had none. ** edit. Update. The manager replied and has ordered larger plates so I'm happy to hear this. We are already talking about coming back again. Dec 18, 2025 The Cesar salad had nice shaved cheese but no salad dressing.

We are the type of members who always take great care of the staff and rarely leave without purchasing extra bottles, yet today we were treated like an inconvenience. Despite being told in the past that spontaneous visits were no problem for members, we were turned away on a gloomy Monday with plenty of open tables. The host at the entrance was incredibly dismissive and wouldn't even let us finish our sentence before cutting us off. We were told our only options were to come back in an hour, a "limited" tasting, drive all the way downtown, or just pick up our shipment and leave. We asked for the Wine Club Manager to resolve the situation, but she wasn't on-site. To be offered a "partial" tasting as a favor after nearly ten years of support was the final straw. It feels as though they now prioritize "closing" new members over honoring the people who have supported them for years. They've gone mainstream and lost the personal touch that made them special.

I believe sometimes companies have off days, and employees may have a bad day, which can affect one's experience, thus I dont let one bad experience ruin a company's review. But when it comes to my CHILD, you best believe i will never forgive and forget or let our experience be forgotten. We visited this winery expecting a relaxing, family-friendly experience and instead left with our daughter crying after being scratched in the face near her eye by the owner's off-leash dog. What makes this especially frustrating is that the winery's own rules state dogs must be leashed, yet the owners' dogs were roaming the property freely. Our daughter was calmly petting one of the dogs with me standing directly beside her when the dog suddenly growled and scratched her across the face. This was completely unprovoked and witnessed by the owner himself, who said absolutely nothing afterward. No apology, no concern, no accountability. An employee later approached us and said, "Sorry, he's old and maybe didn't like that she was the same height as him, which made him react".....which felt less like accountability and more like an absurd attempt to excuse why a reactive dog was allowed to roam off leash around guests and children. We also observed the dogs behaving territorially toward other leashed dogs on the property, making it even more inappropriate that they were allowed off leash in a public setting. My father-in-law is a VERY well known, well respected, and prominent winemaker in Virginia and across the United States, if you know anything about wine, you know him. So lets say, we understand winery culture and hospitality, fairly well. Had something like this happened on his property, it would have been handled immediately and professionally with genuine concern for the injured guest.....especially a child. Watching the owner casually continue on in his conversation with whomever, and pet the dog like nothing happened while our daughter screamed and cried was honestly unbelievable. In my opinion, not worth the visit for the subpar wine, if you want to take your children/dog somewhere. The poodles were friendly to me, and other adults, until we saw their behavior to other dogs & then my child....The complete lack of concern from ownership after a child was injured was shocking. Frankly, they are fortunate we chose not to escalate the situation further. Parents should absolutely be cautious visiting here with children or pets. An off-leash dog with territorial behavior has no place interacting freely with guests. Absolutely shocked and the owner should be ashamed of his actions & response (or lack there of) to the situation.
