Please read this review before going to Desert Eye Works. I had a very bad experience at Desert Eye Works. The staff is ok if everything is going well but if there is a problem they get curt and arrogant. The 2 pairs of prescription glasses that I purchased were clearly wrong. The glasses made everything blurry. I told them that when I picked up the glasses and was told I had to get used to them. I did not get used to them because they were the WRONG prescription. I went back 3 times and every time the staff and Dr Ho just repeated that I had to get used to them. I asked the Dr to check the prescription and she refused. I couldn't have been more frustrated! It was an expensive venture and a total waste of money. Since I could never wear the glasses and got absolutely no satisfaction or help, I complained to my insurance company and had to go to another Dr and pay again for the same services. The new Dr confirmed that the prescription was wrong and corrected it. So I got the replacement glasses there. Finally I can see again. read more

Came here for an exam and glasses. This is the best experience I have ever had with an eye doctor. Dr. Ho explained so thoroughly some of the issues I have had with my eyes that no one had ever told me in 50 years of wearing glasses and going to different doctors. Dr. Ho is very nice, professional, and always listens to what I have to say regarding how my vision has changed or any problems I'm having. stupid me because I scratched my eye with my mascara wand and felt the pain going through my eye ball! Dr. Ho was able to fit me in right away. This place is the most unethical place with the worst service I have ever seen. The doctor misdiagnosed my vision giving my contacts which left me completely unable to read up close and I am in graduate school. It cost me about $1000 all in all to change to her idea and when I found out I couldn't see one thing up close I about died. I am in graduate school and spend about 90% of my life reading which she knew. When I called to say this was not working for me they tried to argue with me saying this is what the doctor wants, I don't care what this doctor wants it is my life and I need to read up close. Then they wouldn't refund my money even though I returned all the boxes of contacts they sold me. I am going to report them to the board of optometry. read more

Dr. Ho is one of the few optometrists I've been to that was able to correctly diagnose my astigmatism and she didn't try to up sell me on unnecessary expensive tests, which I've also experienced. Staff was friendly and helpful. She very honest and professional and I'm very happy with my glasses and trust her with my vision. They have a wide selection of frames and lens options. Prices can be high depending on what you select, but you get what you pay for. read more

Prices at Dr. Ho's office are very high. I went in for my eye exam with insurance and was not told beforehand that a contact exam is extra and not covered by insurance. So I not only owed my copay for the eyeglass exam but I had to pay separate for the contact exam, which was a lot of money for me. I could not afford to buy glasses for myself here, because the frames are marked up extremely high. I took my prescription to Costco and only paid a fraction of what Dr. Ho wanted. I just have to say, I've been to several different eye doctors in the desert to try and get a prescription that works with my high astigmatism and hard lens fit and have had zero luck until I was recommneded to Dr.Ho. Not only was her staff courteous, but after an exam with her and getting my new glasses and contatcs, I can SEE!! I haven't had a pair of glasses or contacts that have worked this well for me in over 2 years. I love all the designer frames. My first progressive lenses were perfect. I had no dizziness or any trouble with them. I got great instructions from the staff when i got them. WARNING: Do not let them do a refraction. Go to a good ophthalmologist to get your prescription. The person who prescribed for me gave me a right lens with way too much correction for astigmatism, leading to right-eye headaches and much consternation. Alas, I waited too long to complain, so I'm stuck with bad vision. Malpractice? I'd say so. I've been going to Dr. Serena Ho with my family for years now after having tried other eye docs. She is very thorough, up to date on what is new in eye care and products, compassionate, and considerate. Four out of 5 family members wear contacts and or glasses and recently changed my life as when I turned 50 like everyone else I needed full time reading glasses. She introduced new contacts that work where I don't need reading glasses for another few years. The staff are so great at helping choose glasses that work for each of us. Kids are educated on safety, care and use of contacts and glasses. Between all of us we've had all kinds of contacts, daily glasses, prescription sunglasses and sports goggles. I bought some overpriced glasses from this joint last December. The frames broke at the bridge after 7 months and I took them in to Desert Eyeworks to see if they could fix or replace them. All I got was a shrug and apathy. "No, we can't help you."I then went to Parkview Optical in Cathedral City which was happy to fix them in 10 minutes for a small fee. BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE no return policy means they don't have to care. Worst customer service ever. I now have glasses I can't wear, they don't care, and the progressive prescription was off. I had to turn my head to the side to find a range that was barely visible. I work on a computer, NOT acceptable. First time at Desert Eye Works, the pre-exam testing was done by I think an intern-thats what I thought he was because of his lack of feeling comfortable and knowledge. I asked him what the doctors name was and he did not know. Dr. Ho was helpful, she said I had a depth perception problem based on the young guys test and I should of asked for a retake by her doing it so my confidence was low. Dr. Ho recommended driving glasses and reading glasses to adjust my left eye depth perception problem so she introduced me to Tammy to fit for glasses who said I need three pairs. I do not wear glasses because I have had eye corrective surgery, but I got the feeling Tammy who was nice was really just trying to sell glasses. I have the cadillac VSP plan but Tammy did not have reading glasses under $130 or only had two pairs. The pairs she was showing me were over $200. I decided before spending a few hundred to pause and left to figure it out. I went over to Dr. Lawrence Watson accross from McCallum Theater and they had over 50 glasses under $100 and found a great pair and it costs me nothing because insurance paid for the whole thing. They also measured my distance and gave it to me & suggested I order on line for sunglasses to save money. Dr. Lawrence office staff were honest, helpful and everyone very competent. read more

I can only give this place one star because I'm required to give it at least a star. My husband and I went in there to get our eye exams done and to get glasses. We Kinda found it funny how when you get your eye exam done they don't even put the eyedrops in your eyes to dilate your eyes to see what's really going on with your eyes. When the time came to pick out our glasses it's a boutique, So we just wanted our prescriptions so we can go somewhere cheaper to buy our frames. They will not let you do that. My husband picked out expensive frames Ferragamo's. After all of all the charges were done and paid my husband and I took off to San diego. We're walking on the beach and he ended up with transitional glasses. He looked at me and he said Debbie these transitionals don't cover the whole lens of my glasses. There is a space about an inch all the way around my lenses. So we called up this company and we got nowhere with these people. He brought his glasses in to a man name regal and regal told him that's how they're supposed to be because their beveled. He said what we can do is we can take a marker and shade in the areas where there is no transitional happening. Mind you he paid a lot of money for these glasses and for this guy regal to say were going to take a marker and we're going to highlight the areas where there's a big gap in your glasses is asinine. He also told my husband if you want to send them back to done it was going to cost him to send them back. I had to get VS P our insurance involved whereas she said no there will be no extra charge to send them back to be done right. So when I called to confirm all of this Tammy who runs the front office who has a smirk on her face when you talk to her the whole time answered the phone and practically was laughing as she put the phone down. VS P told us we can bring the glasses back and have been sent back with no charge to my husband and they will be done right. I wanted a copy of the invoice stating time and date that these glasses were sent back in the work that was done because to me I believe all they did was sit in that drawer for about a week until they called us to say that your glasses were ready. The glasses are still the same and we are now getting a second opinion and another eye place and will be fighting this. So if any of you are looking to go to this place I'm giving you a heads up right now they will stone block you they won't answer any questions they will buck you till you call your insurance company and then they still won't do it right. Just a warning to not use this place my next stop is the Better Business Bureau. read more
