I have been coming to this Denny's location for 25 years now and this is the first time I have seen anything worth reviewing. My waiter was Donovan- He was great from the moment I walked in the door. His good mood and friendly disposition was such a nice change to the usual later night staff. The other waiter/server working was John- Who may or may not be newish? Also pretty great. While he was not helping me, I did hear him with other customers. It is not often there are waiters who take the few seconds to ask someone how their day has been and gives you the chance to answer. I have been sitting her for ever eating this hamburger for so many hours and have not felt rushed or pressured to leave. Oh, Also the food was pretty good. Everything about my visit to this particular Denny's was A-Okay, from the service, to the grilled cobb chicken salad, with out the egg, with the side if garlic ciabatta bread, which in truth, was a lot better then the rest. I've always liked Denny's for a breakfast spot whenever I'm on vacation. It's a good staple. My breakfast of choice is always Moons over my Hammy. I love all my food mashed together in one giant bite, how can you go wrong with this? Scrambled eggs, ham, American and Swiss cheese with buttered sourdough. The only thing missing in it is the hash browns, which are on the side. Yummy! The second thing that is always a staple is the chicken noodle soup. It's not your Jewish penicillin, but it's still really good. I was running a few errands in Santee, and I needed to get some chicken soup before going home. It was nice to see this location still had that small diner homey feel. The parking right up close is small, about 10 spaces. You can see the staff was busy at this location but still happy and friendly. There was this sweet kid that helped me out. He was new, and he never had to place a soup order to go and no one was around to help him out. He didn't get frustrated or anything. He just took his time, apologized, and got through it... smiling. One of the very few late night alternatives in San Diego, that is not a taco shop. Service is slow at best... There was not too many customers. 18 minutes for 2 waters, and 2 sodas.. Maaaaan...Let's see if I can make a long rant a short one. Ok, my wife and I ordered on grub hub and I eventually decide to eat in after picking up. Free meals for kids at 4-10PM, but you need to buy an entree of at least 6 bucks, so we ordered the make your own chicken wraps. The lady was either not paying attention , having a bad day or was just rude and nice when she wanted to be. Mind you , IT WASN'T BUSY AT ALL. It took them a while to get us waters, took a while to take our orders, and it some time just to get boxes to go. I won't becoming back. The old white lady serviced us, but she barely did a good job servicing us. I don't recommend this Dennys. So elsewhere. How do you not know how to make a grilled cheese when the chef who works here is the same one that's here every time I visit. Regaurdless that it's just a simple grilled cheese. It's the principle. I don't come here as often as IHOP because they don't have a large selection of breakfast on the menu but it was nearby while I waited for my oil change. I arrived around 1:20 PM thinking breakfast and lunch rush would be over but there was a line out the door. It took about 10 minutes to get my name on the list but that was cool because I had about a 90 minute wait for my car. I was second in line and the hostess seated the couple who came after me first. I was a little perturbed since I was overlooked but I think more so because she didn't take the time to check the list and just seat who was in her line of vision. She quickly apologized and seated me while taking my drink order; I guess trying to make up for her error. My waitress came out almost immediately and asked for my drink order and I explained the hostess already got it; she excused herself and said it would be right back. She stopped by my table and indicated they were brewing a fresh pot and it would be right up. So I waited, anticipating that "hot fresh cup" goodness. When she brought out the first cup and it had lipstick in two spots on the cup. She apologized and brought me another. She came back with the 2nd cup, and again with the lipstick. Third times a charm ... Right?? Winner, winner, chicken dinner. The menu was so dirty that 80% if the pages were stuck together. NOTE TO SELF: Remember to carry wet wipes in your purse. I should have known though that I would run into that because the windows were seriously in need of a cleaning too. I'm surprised that store owners can't see how dirty their stores are in California. It's different than where I'm from, that's for sure. I ordered and was served promptly. The food was good for Denny's diner food, although the hash browns were a little hard on top and undercooked in the middle. I ate them and didn't comment. When the waitress brought my food she said she would be right back with more coffee. Not until I was finished with my meal and had pushed my loaded cup out the the edge of the table did she come back. I was served another freshly brewed cuppa and seriously enjoyed that part of my meal. They must have been really busy this morning and early afternoon because they had the air cranked and my nose felt like an ice cube by the time I left. I contemplated two stars on this review but felt the staff were working really hard and they seemed like they may have been understaffed on a really busy day so I wanted to give them credit for their effort. NOTE TO OWNER/STORE MANAGER: Put a little effort into the cleanliness of your store. Noted dirty windows, dirty booths, sticky/dilapidated menus, dirty table and dishes. So I really don't see why this place has such bad reviews. I came in was immediately greeted by the waitress. Her name was Fabiola (I looked at the receipt) She was very helpful in helping me place an order. I'm extremely indecisive and wanted something healthy so I could workout and help a clean mind for my test. I decided to go with a fit skillet and add some bacon (my vice). My skillet came on time and looked like the picture. I should have read it more clearly because I wanted to get over medium eggs. Yum. Overall I had a good experience and Service was nice. So why a four stars and not a 5 you ask. 1. I came in and had to choose two tables down because the two other tables didn't look clean at all. You could still see the grease even though there were new settings on the table. Gross. 2. The chef in the back, although good at his job and has every right to enjoy himself while at work was playing his music and singing very loudly. Not sure if he wanted others to hear him but I could clearly hear him sing and talk to the waitress in Spanish. But to each his own. Just a little distracting when you're trying to enjoy breakfast in a nice ambience. Then again it's Denny's and could get busy and keep in kind I was only maybe two to three tables away from the chef. 3. When I asked the waitress about the eggs on my skillet she told me they automatically come with egg whites and I would have to request otherwise and that is totally fine. My only complaint is that my eggs were a tint of yellow. This tells me either I am color blind or they made my skillet with regular eggs. An ungodly smell hit my nostrils as we were greeted at the door and asked to wait for one of the 7 or 8 dirty tables to be cleaned for us. Stepping over puddles and trash we were lead to a table beside one occupied by someone sleeping. Our waiter was polite but messed up 3 out of our 4 orders and took his time in fixing them. After we received our food we did not see him again until he brought us our check. The quality of the food was pitiful and the celery that came with my chicken strips looked like it had been sitting out for days. Probably the worst service I and my family has ever had at a restaurant ever. First and foremost people who were seated after us got their drinks and order taken before they even asked us for our drinks. Second after they took our order instead of taking it to the kitchen they took the order of another couple who came in after us. That same couple received their food 10 to 15 minutes before use. During the meal three of us asked for a refill on our coffee but the man just nodded and went to another table and never served us coffee. We had to get up and ask the people at the front for coffee. The food was all messed up people got the wrong food and the orders were not correct. To top it all off there was a waitress walking around chewing gum and I watched her touch a customers food with her bare hands and switch plates. In-professional and very Un-sanitary. Your typical chain breakfast restaurant. This place is bigger than most Denny's, which is nicer because you don't feel so cramped. Our waiter was friendly and quick to assist us. We had our coffees as soon as we ordered them, and our breakfast came out rather quickly. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. The parking lot is tricky, since they lanes are slanted and is shared with the motel next door. If you're in the mood for Denny's, I would recommend this location. read more

I was given a pick up tome of 11:09am (fine one hour whatever) I got to the restaurant at 11:15 and the girl at the front said "15 more minutes" so I went back in at 11:45. We had been waiting for a long time so I went to go ask the manager what was going on and she said that they were shortstaffed and that she would put our food right in which she did. I would give this Denny's zero stars if I could. My husband and I visited this location today for breakfast. Upon entering we were not greeted. We figured out where to write our names down. Waited awhile longer and still no one who worked there made any contact. It was busy at the time and there was a large group in front of us. They were seated and then a couple of other small groups were seated before us even though they arrived after us . . . not cool. Eventually we were notified and told to "go sit in the corner booth over there." We did, and we waited. For 20 minutes. No one ever came to take our drink order. But all the groups who were sat after us were given service. Slowly, but surely. We Couldn't even get drinks. Unreal. Starving at this point we decided to just leave. No one even noticed. As someone who works in the restaurant industry I am appalled! This location is severely understaffed and the people who do work there seem untrained and unfriendly in general. Upon waiting for service I looked around and couldn't help but notice how filthy the place was. The floor was exceptionally dirty. Various food and crumbs etc all over the place and tables were dirty. Ours was sticky and had some sort of residue. I did not see one busser cleaning any tables the entire time. I only saw one young girl trying to serve all of the restaurant. She was so overwhelmed that we saw food sit in the window for ten whole minutes before it was served to tables. At that point I'm glad we didn't eat here because the place was filthy, people seemed to not appreciate our business and our food most likely would have been ice cold.
