Stopped at this location this morning with my wife to have breakfast. Let me begin by saying never again.... Ordered grand slam coffee and juice 1st coffee came in dirty cup waited 10 min for the waiter to get another cup and that was dirty . Grand slam showed up without hash browns.....the hash browns finally came after I finished breakfast. This location really needs a lot of help an staff need class on customer relations.NEVER AGAIN read more

I've been to this Dennys countless times. I order the French Slam Meal on the $2,4,6,8 menu. It's comes with a a coffee and a o.j. or beverage. I've been told numerous times I can double up on o.j. or 2 regular drinks. But this time the gentlemen helping me. Who even offered it to me before as well. Was so adamant that he doesn't remember. It was such a issue. He called over his supervisor. Which she even looked at me like I was fibbing. But due to customer satisfaction she granted me, what they always offered. Stated " I don't want to it to create a scene." I'm sorry. But I've been here plenty of times and never had any issues ordering this item with the 2 drinks of my choice. I've been coming here for awhile now and overall it's good. The foods always good, the service is always good, and the place is well kept and clean. The only complaint I have is that whether they are busy or not it takes way too long for the drinks and food to come out. Lately I've found myself waiting about 20 minutes for drinks and about an hour for food or appetizers. But the servers are great, friendly, and informative. The food always comes out good too. Customer service is pretty non existent here. Upon entering several employees walked by us, waiting to be seated, no acknowledgement that we were even there. Once seated and food delivered no stop by if we need anything else, I had an omelette usually they ask if you want salsa, nope not here. Upon trying to pay same thing standing there workers walking by no acknowledgement or be right with you. Had an omelette with jalapenos, way too many jalapenos for me, asked for sourdough bread believe I was served white, as it did not taste like any sourdough I have ever had. When you go to Denny's, you pretty much know what you're in for. Namely, comfort food, decent service, and a reasonable price. Eating at Denny's is like staying at a 2-star hotel; it gets the job done and can be surprisingly comfortable, but it's never going to win awards for being classy. However, my experience at the Santee Denny's tonight may very well put the establishment in the running for Worst Trip to Denny's during my illustrious Denny's-frequenting career. The Santee Denny's has been notoriously below-average in the past, but tonight solidified the eatery as the front runner in the Crummiest Denny's I've Ever Eaten At category. The restaurant was not the least bit busy, with perhaps 5 or 6 other tables occupied while we were there. However, judging by the way the waitress we had handled the "crowd," you'd think it was the busiest day of the year. She seemed flustered and unfocused, and we knew we were in for anything but a treat when she had trouble delivering our drinks (the Shift Manager took the order on the drinks when she seated us, by the way... keep this fact in mind as it'll come back in a bit). This waitress looked a little rough, to put it nicely. She was a past-middle aged woman with dyed blond hair and glasses, and she acted as if just coming over to take our order was an arduous task. She tried to make small talk and asked our daughter's name. After repeating it to her three times, she commented it was a beautiful name. Okay, that's nice. She then asked my wife if she could ask our son's name. No problem. But then the waitress said, "What's your name? You mom said I could ask so I'm allowed to." The way she said it was a little defensive and frankly bizarre, but we shrugged it off. Finally, she got around to taking our order (writing it down and everything... again, I'll come back to this in a minute) then walked off. Five to ten minutes passed and we all finished our drinks, hoping for refills. The waitress didn't check in with us once. I kept an eye on the time and commented that she really was not doing a good job of paying any attention to us, especially since she had promised to be "right back" with the apples and grapes my kids had ordered. We waited and waited, watching the waitress as she scurried back and forth near the kitchen, not doing much of anything other than looking lost. I started telling my wife that it sure was taking a lot longer than usual to get our food. Before long, a half hour had passed and I must have looked visibly confused and upset because the waitress finally came back over. But here's where it gets crazier... "Has anyone taken your order?" She acted as if she didn't have any clue that she had written our order down over a half hour earlier. She then said she could take our order and have the food out in five minutes. "Does this mean our order was never put in to begin with?" my wife incredulously asked. The waitress confirmed this was the case. We told her forget it, stood up, held our kids' hands, and walked out the door. I actually feel a little bad for that waitress, to be honest. She looked like she had a lot of "mileage" on her but I like to think she was trying to get herself back together and doing her best to earn an honest living. Obviously, though, being a waitress at Denny's during a slow dinner shift was too difficult of a profession for her. In my opinion, the blame actually lies on the Shift Manager, who has been present at just about every single time we've eaten at the Santee Denny's and had a not-so-hot experience. If you're a manager and you notice customers sitting at a table for 30 minutes without any attention, it might be wise to... oh, I don't know... say something to the waitress (not) serving them or go over and take care of things yourself. Instead, she walked around with an empty smile on her face, not looking in our direction even once. Quick aside: My wife and I visited Japan in 2006, and we went to Denny's on our first night there. The waitress made a small mistake with our order, mainly because we weren't able to speak Japanese, so it wasn't really her fault at all. That said, the manager personally delivered the correct order to our table and gave a deep bow to apologize. While clearly such an expression of respect is not likely to happen in any Denny's outside of Japan, I couldn't help but think about how the Shift Manager at the Santee Denny's was the polar opposite. I was already iffy on this particular restaurant to begin with, but after this last experience, I think it's safe to say the Santee Denny's is now on our No-Visit List. I love Moons Over My Hammy and Grand Slam breakfasts as much as the next guy, but I'll simply have to go elsewhere to get my fix. read more

You can put a bow on shit and it's still a pile of shit! We heard the place was remodeled and had new management or owner so we thought we would give it another try. Everyone deserves a 29474647th try right? We waited a few minutes for drinks but not bad; server was friendly so we didn't mind a little wait. Got our drinks and we placed our order and waited... And waited ... And waited ... And waited ... Our food finally comes but we have no silverware. We asked for silverware in which the server said "oh I'm sorry let me get that for you" so we waited ... And waited ... I guess I should be thankful for the waiting because I might not have noticed the hair cooked into my eggs ... He returns with the silverware and I hand him the plate back and said there is hair in the eggs. He again apologies and promptly takes it back and returns saying "they are making you a new plate" which is ok so I wait And wait (do you see the pattern yet?) My "fresh" plate is returned with room temperature hash browns and cold sausage and hot eggs. I am no chef or great cook but it was pretty obvious they scrapped the eggs off and just replaced them and re-served the same plate. Anyway We start to eat and I have cut up my sons pan-a-cakes (as he calls them) and have to use a super sticky bottle (seems to be an olive oil type bottle) which the syrup ssllloooowwwwwlllyyyyy came out so I held the bottle up and ... Waited And waited Had to use same bottle for my pancakes so you guessed it more waiting. Bottom line? Don't waster your time. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times, each time the food was okay. It never tasted quite right, and the service took forever. If your super hungry in the middle of the night, then go here, it won't be busy , and maybe you will get the kind of service you would expect. This Denny's does have some parking issues around the holidays, it is right next to Wal Mart and across the street from Costco. The food is on par with every other Denny's I have ever eaten at. For breakfast my wife and I are partial to the Lumber Jack slam. For lunch I prefer either the Buffalo Chicken Melt Sandwich or the BBQ Chicken sandwich.which comes with some crispy onion stripes on it. The service is really good and they have no problem checking up on you and bringing you more soda, condiments, or anything else you require. We have ordered our food to go before when we don't feel like waiting on a table and service. The manager is usually the one who puts the to go orders together and he does a good job of making sure they are hot and ready. Very pleased. read more

I saw their commercial for the new avocado dishes and decided to pick up a BLT w/Avocado "to go". I was a little sticker shocked when the cashier asked for $10. and change. OK, maybe I am getting a great sandwich! I could have made it better and cheaper if I had just stopped into the Walmart next store. Very disappointed. Bacon wasn't bad. But, cheap on the avocado. Oh, they forgot my tomato! And apparently they use different fries than advertised. I e-mailed corporate. They sent a response......"Sorry, we'll let them know, hope to see you soon, etc. Really? A couple friends and I walked into to Denny's pretty late because it was raining and we wanted soup (weird, I know). Fe, the waitress, was so sweet and welcoming when we walked in. She was eager to accommodate us (even though they stop serving soup at 10pm). She went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She was amazing and made the experience of a random Denny's late night dine so much more. Will definitely be coming back to this location just for her. read more

We came in last Saturday for Breakfast. There were 8 of us, it was my mom's bday and she LOVES Denny's lol. We all ordered a bunch of food and drinks, the food was on par for what it usually is at Denny's. It was tastey and no one had any complaints (not even overcooked eggs or underdone hashbrowns). The reason why our visit deserves 5 stars is our stellar server Eduardo! Usually we are a semi-difficult group to begin with and add on that there were 8 of us, Eduardo was a rock star. Our food came out timely, our drinks were never empty and anytime we asked for anything it was there in less than a minute. If Eduardo is there serving I would recommend you request him :) read more

Even during the Covid this Denny's had provided safety guidelines which made us more at ease while dining here. This particular location offers great food Cooked just as ordered, friendly service and all around a pleasant atmosphere. Our favorite waitress Lori is back which makes it even more enjoyable. This food from Denny's Santee CA was not good at all and very cold and delivery took forever. I ordered mashed potatoes with gravy but got potato wedges instead. I did not get a dinner roll but instead received packages of ketchup and syrup. This chicken fried steak meal was horrible. I will probably not order from this restaurant again through Grubhub! May I just say I hate giving a one star review. As somebody who works in the customer service industry I feel like it's a very rare when I feel like I have to give a one star review but unfortunately I have gotten sick off of the food here more than once and that to me can't to be overlooked. Let me start off by saying I know it's a Denny's and I'm not exactly expecting gourmet food and anybody who is is just kidding themselves. It should be affordable decent food and that's all anyone should expect from a Denny's. I've ordered several different things from pancakes to skillet meals and have gotten sick on a lot of them. Like I said I really don't like to give bad reviews but the last time I ordered pancakes from here they literally tasted like onions. Also I got really sick off of just a short stack of pancakes. That really should not happen ever. Needless to say I've learned my lesson even though it probably should've been learned a long time ago and just don't come here anymore. read more

UNSANITARY AND RUDE! 1. Ordered a glass of milk (along w water) and the milk had LIPSTICK stains all over the glass, as if it was never washed!! You'd think they'd be sanitary to clean that cup but especially during COVID-19, THEY DIDNT CARE. Got the managers attention to come to the table, she looked at me like she was approaching and WALKED INTO THE BACK! Then our waiter came and didn't understand why we wanted a different glass! 2. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS OUT THE WINDOW! No refills on drinks, waited 45min for our order and nobody checked in to let us know, and the manager and waiter was made it clear they didn't want anything to do with PAYING customers. (Manager during the shift had red/brown wavy hair, overweight, middle aged woman) I'm baffled at how little she helped our waiter (it wasn't busy) by never coming to our table after making contact saying she would. It was pretty busy and had a little wait but she cleaned tables fast and sat every one with in a few mins, cashed out checks, took orders & drinks super fast and still delivered hot food while multitasking.. definitely ask for her if you want fast good service read more

Not too shabby, for a Denny's. Tuesdays and Saturdays are "Kids Eat Free" nights, and the Veggie Burger is vegan if you get it without the cheese (sub avocado for no extra charge!). Grilled mushrooms, spinach, whole wheat bun... nice! Swap out the dipping veggies with a side salad (no cheese), because the desiccated dipping veggies aren't so great. read more

I come to Denny's to get the 390-calorie Fit Slam. I can't complain about that meal set, mostly it's been pretty good when I go to Denny's when traveling all over the country. But for some reason at this particular location, they can't get it quite right. The tomato is off or the English muffin is burned. But I'll keep coming back because its one of the newer Denny's in San Diego. Also located in a very nice part of town, unlike many of the Denny's in SD. The staff is some of the nicest people you'll meet. However, all I have seen is mostly apologizing for not quite getting the job done right the first time. Still, they work earnestly hard. This restaurant always seem to be understaffed. Recommend to sit in the bar if your party is two or less, much better than the booth experience at this location. The cash register is located in a very crowded area of the entrance. It makes you feel like you want to get out of there quickly after eating. read more

Oh my goodness I love this place. The environment is fantastic, the food is delicious, the price is reasonable, so basically it's the perfect family diner! Our server Donovan was the highlight of our dinner, and provided FANTASTIC service. His milkshakes are THE BOMB and he checked in a lot to ensure that all tables had the optimal dinner experience and made sure the food was good. So my Denny's didn't even come up on the map. Does that mean I go to a Secret Denny's, or as Barny Stinson would say "SDenny's". So to be honest my visit was just like the visits back when I was out partying at 2 in the morning... minus the drunken stupor and random people. It's amazing how the menu has, but hasn't changed over the years. "What's that... you're tired of strawberry banana, try Strawberry Mango!" And the crowd of mostly elderly people at Sunday brunch goes wild. So it was around 11 and the wife and I were craving some late night grub so we went to the only place local and open... Dennys. All was well, random teens out because they think it's cool to lounge at Denny's, truck drivers, and people looking for late night snacks (me). The Hispanic (or Latino or Mexican-American for the PC readers) that took my order may not have passed ESL with flying colors. I got part of my order but the other half was lost in translation... Literally. Besides that the night was good, service was the usual and we went home satisfied and knowing that we made a horrible dietary decision. read more

My wife and I came here for lunch today. I was craving the Super Bird but my wife, conventional wisdom, and my latest doctor visit told me to try something a little less fattening so I decided to go with the Turkey Club, without mayo, with mustard and turkey bacon instead of the porky stuff. I also added fries without salt. Wife had a chicken sandwich without the bun. She said hers wasn't the greatest but it was decent. It was juicy not dry. My sandwich was good and even with just a little salt the new wavy cut fries were delicious, and not really too greasy. The waitress was friendly and checked up on us a couple of times but the man who actually took our order (he may have been a manager) was curt and abrupt. Also the water did not taste right. The food is hit or miss, not the greatest. Most Denny's restaurant know how to make an awesome breakfast but at this location sometimes the hash browns are soggy and undercooked or they forget items. The manager and most of the waitstaff are wonderful, they are very nice and try and correct any issues. No matter how busy they are they deliver with a smile. We mostly return due to the great customer service. They're renovation looks great, I'm glad they switched from carpet to laminate. read more

This place services BURGER DEN. The burger was literally a miss. I ordered the mushroom burger. The bread was falling apart and not my idea of fresh. Additionally it had some weird sauce taste. It left me desiring something way different. Let me just say that if IN N Out which is a great burger but basic is better than what you are producing you should get out of the burger business. read more
